1. Matilda Full Write Up
In today's rehearsal we focussed on just choreographing more of the routine. So, to match this goal,
my SMART target for today's lesson was to accurately memorise all the new choreography we come
up with and get taught. This is specific as it looks at one key factor in a routine, which is
remembering the moves. This is measurable as I will be able to know if I’ve learnt the new section or
not by going over it at the end and seeing how much I know, when dancing on my own. This is
achievable as I will be able to learn it all during the rehearsal and it’s not out of my ability to do so.
This is relevant as ti directly links into the knowing the routine as if I don’t know the moves good
enough it would show in the performance as I would be out of time and possibly doing a copletley
different move. This goal will fit in in the time frame as I will be able to learn the new section of
dance all in the space of one rehearsal.
We started the rehearsal off with a group warm up, by running round the room to get our blood
pumping through our bodies. We then proceeded with a few static stretches, to ensure we don’t get
at all injured throughout the rehearsal. We quickly followed on and jumped straight into
choreographing the new sections. At one point we as a company were stuck on what to do next, so I
suggested to create a section to complete on the floor. This was to create different dynamics in the
routine, to keep it interesting. One component that was important to focus on was not only the
dance and the choreography, but also staying in character throughout the entire routine. This is key
as the whole point of the routine is for us to portray school kids who are revolting and messing
around.
As a whole, I did not find the new moves too challenging, however there would be a few times
where I would struggle keeping up with a fast section of dance. Whenever this would occur, during
breaks, I would go over that section on my own slowly and build up speed. I did this for me to
practice the exact movements repeatedly, whilst learning where I need to hit the right poses in the
correct timings.
During the rehearsal I think my strength was keeping up with character whenever we were
rehearsing the routine full out. I have previous acting ability as I have completed various different
workshops to do with acting. Therefore this may have come to me more easily than some other
members.
Review of SMART Target:
By the end of the rehearsal, I think I completed my target as I was able to remember the entirety of
the new sections and I was able to perform them and hit each move at each time stamp. I knew this
as at the end of the lesson I performed the new section on my own to the Choreographer, to get her
feedback. And she told me that I had it all correct. My goal for the next rehearsal will be to go over
the dance and properly think about how I am getting from one mood to another. This will make the
less messy and have a more professional look.
