created to bring attention to the Nazi bombing of the town of Guernica, Spain during the Spanish
civil war in the second half of the 1930s. Its exhibition was used to provide relief and a call
against the horrors of war. Through its visual elements and symbolic concepts, Guernica depicts
the chaos and aftermath of the bombing of the city and the need to bring about change over the
tragedies of war. Standing at a massive seven feet by twenty five feet, this black and white
painting depicts a massacre of the bombing of the town of Guernica. The composition of the
work is a dimly lit space, the only light coming from an eye shaped light at center top of the

Recently, I read the book The Happiness Trap by Russ Harris and Bev Aisbett and at first I really
hated the book. It was patronizing, belittling and used an excess amount of exclamation marks. It
also said things such as let your mind chatter away like a radio in the background which I do not
agree with at all. I think that you should always pay attention to your emotions and thoughts, and
that dealing with them is much different than ignoring them. I overlooked this line, however and
continued reading, and athough I didn t like it at first, I tried to keep an open mindabout the book,
as the reviews were good and some of the lessons made sense. So I begrudgingly read through the
book, trying to read it and get something useful out of it.

Aboard the Enterprise, space travel is just a casual part of the crew s everyday life. For those of us
stuck on the I5 in rush hour traffic, the thought of reaching your destination in a matter of seconds,
it s a godsend. Unfortunately, the laws of physics currently prohibit our society from traveling
faster than the speed of light; or even close to that speed for that matter. The limitations of our time

In class we watched a short clip of the Enterprise stuck in a time loop. The end result was
consistently the destruction of the ship when another vessel in the loop crashes into it. In the
end, Data speculates the tractor beam will not work and follows the idea of Commander Riker.
The quick decision was based upon something an undergraduate physicist would have learned in
the first few weeks of an introductory course; momentum. By decompressing the main shuttle
bay Data was able to release enough air to help push the Enterprise out of harm s way, saving the
lives of the crew and removing the ship from this loop. The gas that escaped the ship after the
main shuttle bay was decompressed applied an equal and opposite force on the ship as it left.
This force gave the ship enough of a push to clear the collision path. Thinking more generally,
when a fire hose is sprayed there is a force from the hose that pushes away from the direction of
the water. This suggests that technology such as hover craft may one day be possible. Most
applicably, the idea helps illustrate how shuttles maintain orbital speed or how WALL E is able to
move through space with a fire extinguisher. Another concept that goes along with this kind of
