This document discusses tuning the electrical properties of powdered activated carbon (PAC) to improve electrostatic precipitator (ESP) performance when PAC is injected for mercury control. Volume resistivity testing of different PAC formulations found one formulation (γ-PAC) improved ESP collection efficiency by 1% and reduced mass penetration by 50% compared to fly ash alone. A novel resistivity test fixture was used to rapidly evaluate PAC formulations under temperature and humidity. Lab ESP tests showed preferential collection of particles depended on PAC formulation. Comparing initial and collected resistivities provided insight into how formulations enriched fly ash or PAC in the dust cake. Tuning PAC's electrical properties can optimize mercury capture and particulate matter collection in ESPs.

Corrosion Inhibition of Mild Steel in HCl Medium by a Condensation Productijtsrd
A condensation product CP was successfully synthesized from reaction of dimethyl amino benzaldehyde and aniline giving yields of 80 . The compound was characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared FTIR Spectroscopy. The corrosion inhibiting property of the CP on mild steel in HCl solution were investigated by the weight loss measurements, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS and linear polarization resistance LPR . The concentrations of CP were varied from 1 x 10 3 M to 5 x 10 3 M. The inhibition efficiencies obtained from all the methods employed were in good agreement where the percentage of inhibition efficiencies increased with concentration of CP. Results showed that CP was the better inhibitor with inhibition efficiency of 90 at 5 x 10 3 M additive concentration. This is likely due to the effect of its large molecular size, higher number of electroactive heteroatoms and bigger p electron cloud of the conjugated double bond system. Experiment 4: Electropolymerized Conducting Polymers.
Introduction:
Conductive polymers (CP) exhibit very useful properties such as flexibility, solubility [1], electrical conductivity, low energy optical transitions, low ionization potential, and high electron affinity.[2] These characterizations make them such effective candidates for many applications such as antistatic and antimagnetic shielding devices[3], microwave attenuation[4], light emitting devices, optical sensors, enzymatic biosensors[5], electronic circuits, and detectors of odors and flavors. The most widely known conducting polymers are polypyrole, polyanaline, and polythiophene. By applying an electrical potential (reversible reaction), these polymers can be reduced. The role of these polymers when they are used as active templates in biosensor applications is the immobilization of dynamic species on the electrode. This will contribute to enhancing the sensitivity and the accuracy of analyte detection. CPs have been used for stabilizing numerous biological species such as enzymes, antibodies, haptens, DNA, and more interestingly the whole cells. [1]
Aim:
The aim of performing this experiment is to create a conducting polypyrrole film which consists of a stabilized enzyme, identify the film and its characteristics, and utilize it as glucose biosensor.
Procedure:
“Refer to Manual for NANO 3101/8302, Electropolymerized Conducting Polymers, Flinders University, p.24-29.”
Results and Discussion:
In the biosensor uses, the deposition of the polymers on the electrode surface can be done by applying an oxidative potential. During this action, the enzymes can be stabilized, and by modifying the deposition time, the amounts of the deposited layer can be recreated. The sensitivity, selectivity, and the accuracy of detection of the biosensors are reliant on the architecture of the polymer, the biological activity of the enzymatic immobilization, and the electropolymerisation circumstances.
In this experiment, the glucose oxidase (enzyme) was immobilized in a conducting polypyrole film on an electrode to find out their appropriateness as a functioning electrode. The performance of the electrode was measured through a Cyclic Voltammogram (CV) of ferricyanide
The geometric area of the electrode was measured by a ruler, and it was found to be 3.14 mm ²which is identical to 0.00314 cm².
The Randles-Sevcik equation is used in the redox reactions

Antibody Coupling - Single Coupling Approach To Bind Antibodies Diverse Speci...Anteo Technologies
Traditional covalent chemistries use harsh chemicals and require expertise in the techniques of diverse covalent coupling methodologies. The Antibody Coupling Kit was made to address issues such as: difficulties in binding certain antibodies with traditional covalent chemistries, antibody wastage, and incorrect antibody orientation. Anteo’s technology offers scientists the flexibility to bind any antibody onto a solid support surface through the use of polymeric metal complexes. The polymeric metal nature of the technology allows multi-valent binding of the target antibody through chelation to the electron donating groups located in the Fc region of the antibody. Anteo’s kit promotes gentle monolayer binding, meaning proteins assemble in the correct orientation while reducing the amount of damaged proteins, leading to increased functionality of antibodies and less antibodies used for the experiment.
This application note demonstrates the ability of the Antibody Coupling Kit to bind Mouse IgG, Mouse IgM, Rabbit IgG, Human IgG and Human IgM antibodies onto 200 nm magnetic particles using a particle-based fluorescent antibody loading assay.

Implicitly or explicitly all competing businesses employ a strategy to select a mix
of marketing resources. Formulating such competitive strategies fundamentally
involves recognizing relationships between elements of the marketing mix (e.g.,
price and product quality), as well as assessing competitive and market conditions
(i.e., industry structure in the language of economics).

Challenges of Sorbent Injection for ESPs (1/2)
Retrofitting Coal Fired Power Plants using Activated Carbon Injection (ACI)
upstream of ESPs is cost effective.
Maximizing mercury adsorption capacity and maintaining ESP PM collection
efficiency are both important.
Full-scale PAC injection testing at the Brayton, Meramec, Monroe, and
Pleasant Prairie sites did not negatively impact stack opacity1.
However, at Conesville, testing of 18 different sorbents resulted in increased
ESP sparking, decreased ESP power, or increased opacity in most cases1.

Preferential PM Collection on ESP Discharge Electrode
Our previous studies1,2 using a lab-scale ESP revealed effects of PAC on PM
collection:
• PAC alone collected on both collection and discharge electrodes.
• Fly ash (FA) alone (lignite and IL bit.) collected primarily on collection
electrode.
• FA + PAC admixtures collected 4-10% on discharge electrode, where PAC
concentration was enriched by up to 50% from inlet values.
Question #1: How do PAC electrical properties affect FA + PAC collection?
Question #2: How can PAC electrical properties be tuned for improved
collection of FA + PAC admixtures within ESPs.____________________

Volume Resistivity Testing, Inferred Differential Collection
Volume resistivity of PM is important to ESP performance.
• Optimum PM collection and ESP rapping efficiency: 108 - 1013 ohm-cm.
• Fly ash: 1011 to 1013 ohm-cm, depending on composition, LOI.
• Conventional PAC: 104 ohm-cm.
• Using ACI, collected PM resistivity varies as particle size decreases and
as PAC concentration increases, and has different implications from
front to rear field.
Volume resistivity conventionally measured after passive exposure &
conditioning of PM samples in controlled T/RH environmental chamber.
For faster evaluation, developed a novel test fixture combining T & RH

Conclusions
Volume resistivity used as experimental parameter in PAC
formulations to evaluate the impact of ACI on ESP performance.
Used novel flow-through volume resistivity test fixture to measure
PAC formulations and their PRB FA admixtures under elevated
temperature and humidity.
ESP differential collection test indicates different collection behaviors
as a function of different PAC formulations.
Comparison of volume resistivities of initial feed and collected
dustcake provides insight into preferential collection behaviors.
PAC development can incorporate tuning electrical properties to
achieve optimum mercury capture and PM collection in ESPs.
γ-PAC: 1% improvement of collection efficiency and 50% reduction of
mass out, compared with PRB FA.
