Actors, Costumes & Props
Actor 1 – Aaron Cogdell
 I have chosen to use myself as the main actor for my music video for a few key reasons. Firstly the availability.
Due to previous media projects and being let down on actors or crew not being available when I need them, I
have decided to use myself as the main character, lip syncing in the music video. I have also chosen to use
myself due to how I want the end product to look. By this I mean I have pictured myself acting out the ideas I
have and therefore I know how I want it to look and if any re-shoots or adjustments are needed then they can
easily be changed. I also see myself as the right type of person to play the role of the ‘singer’ in the video.
This is because I am a young male, much like the original artist (Justin Bieber) and having watched his music
video countless times I am very familiar with the way he acts and would be easier for me to act than for
somebody else to perform the way I see it.
 As I am the actor, some of the shots will be filmed by friends and family. 60% of the shots I will be using a
tripod, set up and positioned by myself to capture the effect that I require and the remaining 40% will be
filmed by my brother Ross and my girlfriend.
Actor 2 – Poppy Tiller
 For my second actor, the girl in the music video, I will be using Poppy Tiller. I have chosen to use her as she is
an attractive young female, who the audience can associate themselves with as she would be part of the target
audience for the song and artist. She is also comfortable acting in scenes wearing little clothing (underwear)
which is a common feature in many pop music videos, especially many of Justin Bieber’s videos. Therefore, this
makes the video look more professional and realistic and also appeals to all the ages and genders of the target
audience who like and expect to see this for this genre of music.
Costumes
 Actor 1 – Aaron Cogdell
I have chosen to use a white t-shirt, for two main reasons. Firstly it is simple and fashionable with todays
fashion trends and is a commonly warn piece of clothing by many teenage males and young male adults.
Secondly, it is a similar, casual style of clothing that the artist of the song wears, particularly in the actual music
video for the song. This therefore helps me style myself (as the actor) to look like the artist singing the song
to make it more believable to watch for my audience. This T-shirt will be warn and be visible in 80% of the
shots such as when in the bedroom, driving the car, the ‘walk of art’ and in Ferndown. I have chosen to use the
colour white as it opposes the colour red when the two characters are together and also portrays love and
promise, the connotation of a white rose and enhances the lyrical meaning sung (lip synced) by actor 1.
For the scenes being shot at outdoor locations such as in the ‘walk of art’, in the
car and out in Ferndown I will be wearing black skinny jeans. I have chosen to
wear these as they are currently a fashionable style of clothing, commonly seen
on young males. Therefore, this style of clothing is expected to be warn by
young males and the audience especially young males can relate to it.
In terms of footwear, I will be wearing grey Nike SB trainers, again as they are a modern, fashionable
choice of footwear and are a common style for young male adults to be seen wearing. Again,
accurately representing young males and meeting the expectations of the audience.
For most of the outdoor shots I will
occasionally be wearing a grey zipper
hoodie to mix up the style and clothing
seen throughout the video. I have chosen
a hoodie again due to its commonality in
fashion trends today, for either males or
females and is an expected choice of
clothing for somebody of my (the actor’s)
age.
 Actor 2 – Poppy Tiller
Actor two, Poppy will be wearing red underwear when featuring in various scenes. This is because the lyrics of the song are about love,
‘making love’, and requires some mild explicit shots and clothing to enhance the emotion of the lyrics. I have chosen to use the colour
red as it is an emotionally intense, passionate and sensitive colour that relate to the lyrics. The main red connotation also being love,
the main theme of the song but can also mean warning as the lyrics also suggest the changing and frustrating relationship that could
cause anger, another connotation. The audience would also expect a few mildly-explicit scenes in a young male pop song that sings
about love relationships so this meets there expectations.
In one or two of the scenes featuring Poppy she will be wearing a baggy, long sleeve jumper. This again is to change the style of clothing, and
not have her constantly being seen in underwear. This long sleeve jumper is a common fashion choice for young adult females of her age, and
a style of clothing that the audience would expect to see in a pop video.
Props
These props will be located on
a desk in the bedroom, and in
the 1st verse of the song they
will be aggressively pushed off
the desk to match the lyrics
‘wanna argue all day’
These will be focussed on in
the intro first and second
chorus and other times
where the lyrics ‘running
out of time’ are present.
A lighter will be needed for the
scene where actor 1 is lip
syncing, holding a lighter for
dramatic, emotional lighting.
Beats headphones are used
in the introductory 15
seconds of the song during
slow motion panning, close
ups, and wide shots.
Equipment
I will be using a tripod to stabilise my shots
either when still or even when tracking and
panning.
I will be using a Cannon 600d and a Cannon G7X for the
filming of the music video. The 600d will be used when
specific focus is required to separate the foreground and
background content and for tripod mounted shots and I
will use the G7X for sharper, hand held shots and medium
close-up lip syncing.
All of my video will be shot after daylight hours and therefore I
require some form of artificial lighting for the correct focus and
affect. I will be mainly using a bedside table lamp, in the
background to cast just enough light for the detail of my actors’
faces and actions but still leave shadows and a dark border to
enhance the impact of the lyrics.
I may also be needed a lens filter if
I need to adapt the contrast, focus
and lighting of some outdoor
shots such as under streetlights,
tunnel lights and car lights.
