Highlights of the Project
Activities
Love is in the air. As the month of February comes over, the flag raising
activities are filled with love as the different types of love are discussed each
week emphasizing how we each can apply the value in their everyday living at
home, in school within the community, to God and to each of ourselves.
Division Memorandum No.154, s. 2022 further emphasizes that the
integration of values shall be incorporated in the Flag Raising Activity to imbibe
the core values of DepEd which are Maka Diyos, makatao, Makakalikasan at
Makabansa. The Focal Persons in Homeroom Guidance (HG) and Edukasyon
sa Pagpapakatao (EsP) are designated to take charge of values integration
and in assigning teachers to take charge of the matter.
During the first week, the general meaning of the value LOVE was
discussed and how the children could show the value at home. Love is the
ultimate mother of all other values because if we have love within our hearts,
all other values will manifest.
1. During the second week, the types of love, AGAPE and STORGE were
emphasized. AGAPE LOVE is the love of mankind. It is modelled on the love
of the Christian God for men and the love of man for God. It's the love that is
given whether or not it's returned. It's the love without any self benefit.
2. STORGE type of love of mothers to children. It is what mothers know best
but isn't talked about too much when we talk about love. It is the love of
parents for children. It is described as the most natural of loves. Natural in that
it's present without corrosion. It's emoted because we can't help ourselves and
it pays the least attention as to whether the person is worthy of love.
3. Also, some examples of how we can manifest LOVE in the school was also
discussed.
4. On the third week, more types of love were explained such as PHILIA and
EROS. Philia is the love of friends and equals. It has something to do with the
love between lovers when they've been together for a long time. It's also called

brotherly love. Of course, it could be sisterly love and it is the accepting love of
good friendship. This is the love that is good for your health. The touch of a
loved one. The philia touch lowers blood pressure. People in loving
relationships feel your love have few doctor visits, shorter hospital visits, have
less pain, and have more positive emotions. All of these positive
consequences of philia love, loving friendships make us more resilient when
hard times come.
5. EROS on the other hand is passionate love. We might as well get that one
out of the way first. Eros is erotic or sexual or passionate love. It's often all
about need and it's more about the person who's feeling sexually attractive
than it is about the person who is the focus of that love or thing that is the
focus of that love. It is addicting. It can cause great joy and great sorrow. It
isn't always good for you. More hearts are broken on Valentine's Day due to
the unfulfillment of erotic love.
6. Examples of how we can show our love to the community was also
emphasized and how we can love our selves first before others.
7. Finally on the last week, there was a review of all the types of values
discussed and ways on how we can show love at home in the family, in the
community , at school and for ourselves.
