This document describes two methods for determining the accommodative convergence to accommodation ratio (AC/A ratio): the gradient method and the heterophoria method. The gradient method involves measuring a patient's deviation at 1/3 meter using an accommodative target, then remeasuring with +3.00 and -3.00 lenses over their glasses to calculate the AC/A ratio. The heterophoria method involves measuring the patient's deviation at distance and 1/3 meter, then using a formula to calculate the AC/A ratio from those measurements.
