1. Seat an infant comfortably on a caregiver's lap. Use a small, sight-based toy to move horizontally in front of the infant's face from side to side. 2. Observe the infant's eyes for fixation on and following movements of the toy. 3. Cover each eye separately and repeat the test to observe for any differences between the eyes in fixation quality or smooth pursuit, or in objection to occlusion. Repeat tests with a different toy if needed to maintain interest.
