Road Accidents in India seminar reportAnkush Gavit
Road accidents are a major issue in India, causing over 100,000 deaths per year. The key causes of accidents include speeding, drunk driving, distractions for drivers like cell phones, running red lights, and failing to use seatbelts and helmets. India has over 3 million kilometers of roads but the network suffers from poor quality, with only half paved. Efforts are underway to improve infrastructure, but growing vehicle ownership is also increasing traffic risks. To address this crisis, India and other countries are pushing education, enforcement of traffic laws, engineering improvements, and better emergency response. Coordinated efforts are needed across these areas to achieve the UN's goal of reversing the rising road accident trend by 2020.

Advancing Road Safety in India:Challenges and OpportunitiesWaseemAhmad186
India has seen rising road accidents as the number of vehicles has increased dramatically in recent decades while road infrastructure has not kept pace. Over 5 lakh road accidents occurred in India in 2015, resulting in 1.46 lakh deaths. Young people between 15-35 years old account for over half of road accident victims. The top causes of accidents are reckless or drunk driving, speeding, and not wearing seatbelts. The government has created policies and programs focused on education, enforcement, engineering, and emergency response to try to advance road safety in India.
Mathematical model to assess motorcycle accidents in tanzaniaAlexander Decker
The document presents a mathematical model to assess factors contributing to motorcycle accidents in Tanzania. Data was collected from Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions on accidents and factors such as driving experience, speed, road conditions, and personal status (e.g. alcohol use). Multiple linear regression models were formulated using SPSS software. The models showed that in Kilimanjaro region, motorcycle accidents were most strongly associated with not having an owner's license, rough road conditions, personal status involving alcohol/drugs, and less experience. Personal status had the strongest effect on accidents. A similar approach was applied to data from Arusha region.
The document discusses how a combination of community policing and information and communication technology (ICT) can be used to promote road safety in Uganda through changes in driver behavior and attitudes. It proposes a system where community members can use SMS to report unsafe driving to a central police database. This allows real-time tracking of offenders and could help enforce regulations by providing harsher punishments for repeat offenses, acting as a deterrent. The system is intended to empower community members and encourage safer driving by creating the perception of constant monitoring.
Road traffic accidents are a major public health issue globally. Over 1.2 million people die each year in road accidents worldwide, with low and middle income countries disproportionately affected. Risk factors include excessive speed, alcohol use, poor road infrastructure, and lack of safety measures like seatbelts and helmets. Prevention requires a multisectoral approach including strict enforcement of traffic laws, improved road design, safer vehicles, and public education campaigns.
The document discusses many potential solutions to improving road safety. It suggests that effective solutions require action in several areas: driver training and testing, enforcement of traffic laws, vehicle safety standards, road infrastructure design, public awareness campaigns, and emergency response systems. The most comprehensive approaches integrate improvements across all of these factors, with the goal of changing driver behavior, building safer roads and vehicles, and creating a culture with road safety as a priority. Cooperation between government, organizations, and the public is needed to make meaningful progress.
This document summarizes a case study on motorcycle accidents in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The study found that motorcycle transport has grown in Tanzania and is an important form of employment and transportation, especially for youth. However, motorcycle accidents have also increased and are a major cause of death and injury. The study examined accident data and causes in three districts in Dar es Salaam through surveys of motorcyclists and passengers. It found that most accidents are caused by traffic violations and alcohol use. Recommendations include stricter licensing requirements for motorcyclists, safety training, and public education campaigns to reduce accidents.
This document discusses road accidents in India. It highlights that road accidents are a major problem, with over 1 lakh deaths annually. Some key causes of accidents are identified as overspeeding, drunk driving, use of mobile phones while driving, and not wearing helmets or seatbelts. Consequences of accidents like injuries and economic losses are also outlined. The document calls for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and regulations to prevent accidents in the future.

Human made disasters.pptxholiday homeworkjayanajitha
Transport accidents are a major type of human-made disaster. They occur frequently around the world and can cause death or injury. Common causes of transport accidents include not following traffic rules, not wearing seatbelts or helmets, drunk driving, and driver distraction. To reduce accidents, people should wear seatbelts and helmets, follow traffic rules, focus on driving, and avoid alcohol and drugs when operating vehicles.
The document discusses road accidents, their causes, and preventative measures. It states that human factors like alcohol consumption, distraction, and speeding are the primary causes of accidents, accounting for 69% of total accidents. Vehicle defects and poor road infrastructure account for the remaining 27% and 4% respectively. Some key preventative measures proposed include strict enforcement of speed limits, more stringent licensing tests, mandatory seatbelt and helmet laws, and better road infrastructure like signage and speed breakers. Adopting and enforcing these measures could significantly reduce the millions of deaths and injuries from road accidents worldwide each year.
This document discusses road safety in India. It notes that over 1.5 lakh lives were lost to road accidents in India in 2018, with over-speeding being the main cause. Other major causes of accidents included drunken driving, poor road conditions, driver distractions, jumping red lights, and not wearing safety gear. The document recommends strategies like dedicating road safety funds, improving infrastructure, establishing accident databases, and raising public awareness to reduce accidents.
There are several other causes of road traffic accidents which are responsible for road traffic accidents, but I have highlighted some of the most prominent ones. Observing traffic laws is very essential to prevent yourself from accidents, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that mishaps won’t happen. It is advisable to have yourself under insurance to save your loved ones in a tragedy like road accidents. It is also very important to go to driving school to learn proper driving and get a driving license. Doing so will reduce the number of car crashes happen each year.
Road traffic accidents occur when a vehicle collides with another vehicle or object on a public road. They are a major public health issue and one of the leading causes of death globally for people aged 5-29. In Nepal, about 7 people die every day from road accidents, which account for 7% of all deaths in the country. The number of accidents and deaths from accidents has been increasing in Nepal over the past decade. Common causes of road accidents include speeding, drunk driving, not wearing seatbelts or helmets, and violating traffic rules. Preventive measures like enforcing speed limits, seatbelt and helmet laws, banning phone use while driving, and improving road infrastructure can help reduce accidents.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Abstract
Road accidents are global tragedies with an ever-raising trend. In Malaysia, it
represents a major public problem because of the high number of victims involved and
also the seriousness of the consequences for the victim themselves and to their families.
Accidents are generally classified as single vehicle accidents in which the vehicle is
either colliding with fixed objects or with pedestrians Besides that, the vehicle may fall
in a ditch and multiple vehicle accidents in which two or more than two vehicle can
either collide head–on.( By triplejam99 | March 2014)
The goal of this assignment includes review of the causes and nature of accidents,
statistical data regarding road accidents, effect of the road accident, and also ways to
overcome the road accident happen in our country, Malaysia.
According to the research, “85% of the total of road accident is caused by road
accident is caused by driver while 15% is caused by the other factors like road
condition, surrounding and vehicles that are not road-worthy”. ( Fokus Minda Ogos
2004, page 78.).
The World Health Ranking 2011 has ranked Malaysia at number 20 in its list of
countries with the most deaths caused by road accidents. Road traffic accidents have
also been identified as the leading cause of death in Malaysia, after coronary/heart
disease, stroke, influenza and pneumonia. (By AINA NASA - 9 July 2014 @ 8:09 AM
New Straits Times Online Tuesday, 14 October 2014, 10:25 AM)
In short, more and more Malaysians die every year due to the road accidents. The
question is, who should be blamed for the increasing number of the road accident? What
are the causes that contribute to road accident on Malaysian roads? What can we do to
prevent the road accident? After doing some research and reading, I can simplify that
there are some causes that contribute to the road accident. They are road and weather
condition, driver’s attitude and weaknesses in implementation of law in Malaysia.
4. 4
Introduction
Road is one of the popular mode of transportation in Malaysia. Do you believe that
over than a million of Malaysians are the road users in a day? They have their own
personal reasons and destinations. In fact, 3,674,484 of private and public vehicles were
moving on the roads in a day in 1987. On the other hand, in 2003 there were 12,021,939
vehicles on the roads. This shows the number of vehicles keep increasing yearly. I am
sure, you can imagine the scenario on Malaysian roads with such number of vehicles
which are moving on the road every day.
All of us know that, there are more and more accidents occur on our roads every
day. In addition, many of these accidents lead to death.Road safety has becoming the
serious issues nowadays as traffic accidents in Malaysia has been raising at the average
rate of 9.7% per annum over the last3 decades (Mohamad Nizam Mustafa, 2006). This
issue need be taken seriously by everyone especially the road users about the
importance of road safety in Malaysia.
In fact, it is a major cause for concern judging by the latest statistics obtained by
Cars, Bikes & Trucks (CBT) from Bukit Aman Traffic Police via Road Safety
Department. The figures reveal that deaths on the road this year from Jan to May have
escalated by 70 people, a 2.5 per cent increase compared with the same period last year.
(Refer Appendix 1)
Leading the casualties chart for 2013 are the motorcyclists and pillion riders with
1,802 deaths, an upward trend of 152 people more than last year or 63.25 per cent
contribution of the total deaths on the road up until May this year. It is followed by car
drivers/passengers with 570 deaths or 20 per cent of overall statistics, an increase of 12
deaths than 2012 over the same period.
Up until May, 2,849 people were killed in comparison to 2,779 deaths in the first
half of 2012.The astounding road accident figures are reflected by a sharp increase of
reported and recorded cases, which have seen a 4.2 per cent increase from last year.
Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Tam Weng Wah told CBT that the
upsurge of accidents and fatalities were perhaps due to the growing number of vehicles
on the road.
5. 5
Causes of Accident
Every year, road accidents in Malaysia are becoming more and more common in
today’s society and contributes to a significant number of deaths as the result. When
you spend some time poring over the newspaper, you could find that there are numbers
of accident happen in Malaysia every day. Although the police already take the action to
prevent the accidents but it is still raising day by day. There are many reasons and
causes why accidents happen in Malaysia.
(a) Driver’ attitudes
Firstly, road accidents happen because of the driver’s attitudes. . In 2003, there were
12,021,939 vehicles moving on the road in a day. Can you imagine the traffic
congestion with this number of vehicles on the road? The drivers have to move their
vehicles inched forward, bit by bit on the long rows. The drivers might lose control or
become impatient in this situation. The impatient drivers might press their horns or
cursing at other road users. It has becomes worse if the impatient drivers might put
themselves and other road users in danger.
Actually, drivers are the major factor of road accident in Malaysia. If the drivers are
handling their vehicles under control of their emotion like tired, stress, anger, worry or
even sleepy, they tend to involve in accident. Thus, they are unable to give full attention
and concentration on the road. They might lose control of their vehicles as “danger
comes anytime without warning”.
According to the statistic endorsed by Police Department, the main factor of road
accident is careless of the driver. It was reported by DSP Samsudin Mat, Chief Officer
of traffic team, PDRM Selangor.
“85% of the total of road accident is caused by road accident is caused by driver while
15% is caused by the other factors like road condition, surrounding and vehicles that are
not road-worthy”. ( Fokus Minda Ogos 2004, page 78.)
6. 6
(b) Road and weather condition
Furthermore, road condition contributes to the road accident. Based on research
finding and record of accident cases, the number of road accident keeps increasing
yearly. Actually, road in Malaysia is not really safe to be used. This is because most of
the roads are not straight. Moreover, there are narrow and sharp bends. Of course, this is
due to our earth surface which is mountainous and not flat. This kind to road conditions
may lead to road accident.
In addition, it is dangerous to drive in raining cats and dogs, hot day and haze. In
fact, speeding during this kind of weather condition may cause the driver to lose control
on steering, tires and brake. Driving during haze will blur the visibility of the driver.
Consequently, the driver who drives in this kind of weather condition is easily involved
in an accident.
7. 7
Effect of road accident
Road accident is a global tragedy with the ever-rising trend. Almost every day, we
hear the news of the accident on the television, radio and internet. Most people continue
to negligent and ignore the danger involved in their driving and so, these accidents
happen.
There are some troublesome when you get in an accident. One of them is your
insurance may go up, you have to pay for repairs and may be hurt or injured seriously. If
you hurt or kill another person, you have points added to your driving record, you can
loss a license or have it suspended if you are at fault.
According to the law of Malaysia Act 333, a person who are convicted under this
section (causing death by reckless or dangerous driving) shall be disqualified from
holding or obtaining a driving license for a period of **not less than three years from
the date of the conviction and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, be
disqualified for a period of ten years from the date of conviction. . (ROAD
TRANSPORT ACT 1987 page 55)
In addition, damage to properties also one of the effect of road accident. This is due
to some of the car crash into the tree or other facilities during accident. This not only
caused the car itself to damage but also need more money to recover the facilities. The
government have to pay more in repairing or recovering the damage facilities.
Other than that, a person who are involve in an accident usually will harm mentally.
They will scare of the car or the surrounding if they are not treat well carefully while in
the hospital. Hence, involve in the road accident not only cost more money but also
harm physically and mentally.
As a good citizen of Malaysia, we should try our best to avoid road accident. We
should follow the regulation and co-operation with government in any campaign.
8. 8
Ways to overcome road
accident
We as a Malaysian we need to reduce the number of road accidents. We cannot let
the number of road accident increase anymore. First of all, we need to do best on our
own responsibility. There are some solutions to reduce the number of road accidents.
(Find out more from UK Essays here: http://www.ukessays.com/essays/english-
language/road-accidents-malaysia.php#ixzz3G2YV41IK)
(a) Have a good attitude
First of all, we must do best to our own responsibilities. We must follow the traffic
rules and regulation strictly. For instance, we must wearing seat belt while driving. This
is due to we can reduce the injury cause by accident or even can prevent fatal. Also, we
should plan several short stop so that we are not in a tired and sleepy condition when
driving. We cannot stop going hometown or travelling in the long distance, but yet we
must at least take some rest if necessary.
Furthermore, we should check our car regularly. For example, we could monitor
tires, brakes, lights and mirrors. This is our responsibilities to make sure our car is in a
good condition. Besides, avoid drunk alcohol while driving. Life is important, we
cannot simply put our life in a risky condition like this. We must also be a considerate
and understanding driver by not driving after drunk.

safety have been formed within the government departments, private agencies and

Public Work Department must have to make sure the roads are always in good
condition. They need to provide a safe and efficient road system. At the same time, the
road users should report immediately if they find that the road surface is damage. So
that, the damaged road can be repaired as soon as possible. Nevertheless, the
government should expand the narrow road and identify the hazardous location to
prevent the accident. Also, we should have strict laws so that only vehicles in good
condition are allowed on the roads. This means that the government should inspect all

road accidents occur is because of driver behavior. I think moral are play a very
significant role in our life, it teach us how to love other person and ourselves but before
we love other person we need to learn how to love ourselves and appreciate the life that
have been given by god for us. We as a driver, we need to responsibility for what we
have done, cannot done some actions that might cause accident occur or injury other
person such as, on phone while driving, drunk driving and so on. Those actions are
really dangerous if we do it when we are drive because we cannot control the car well
with doing such actions. Remember that, our family member are always worried about
us and carried about us. There is no peoples are wishing to involve in a road accidents, it
is really a tragedy it make a lot of people loss of their family member. Besides that, all
Malaysian should be cooperating to reduce the number of road accidents and our slogan
