This document provides information on the silvicultural characteristics and uses of two tree species: Acacia catechu (Khair) and Dalbergia latifolia (Satisal). Acacia catechu occurs between elevations of 1400m, prefers strong light and drought conditions, and has uses including timber, fuelwood, fodder, and gum resin. Dalbergia latifolia is common from Terai to 1000m, can withstand annual ground fire but is sensitive to crown fire, and its timber is used for high quality furniture while the tree also fixes atmospheric nitrogen.
