Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Diabetes mellitus is a syndrome in which carbohydrate and fat metabolism are
impaired by decreased sensitivity or lack of insulin. There are two types of of diabetes; Type 1
also called insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and Type 2 also called non insulin
dependent diabetes (NIDDM). In type 1 diabetes the beta cells of the pancreas do not produce any
insulin. When there is a lack of insulin the cells are unable to utilize the glucose necessary for
energy. In type 2 diabetes the pancreas are still about to produce insulin however, there is a
development of insulin resistance and impaired glucose metabolism. The signs and symptoms of
IDDM and NIDDM are very similar. The symptoms most commonly noted are polyuria, polydipsia,

lead to erectile dysfunction in men. The kidneys are also affected by diabetes by destroying the
fragile filtering system. The damage can be so severe that it can lead to renal failure or ESRD.
In order to treat it a person may require dialysis or a kidney transplant. Eyesight can also be
affected be diabetes. It can lead to retinopathy diabetes can damage the blood vessels of the retina

Financial Advisor Career
Senior Paper
When I was 10, my mom and dad got divorced. For 3 years after that me and my mom had
basically nothing. No heat, no food, we were lucky to have a house. Ever since then, I knew I
wanted to help people with financial trouble, which is why I enrolled in Business Academy at
New Market Skills Center. As I have been studying there, I have picked up a myriad of skills I
can use in the real world. I help with multiple blood drives and lead tours around the campus
every week. But the most important skill I ve picked up in my short time at New Market is how
to control and budget your money, which I feel is a skill everybody needs, but not everyone has
this crucial skill. With that mindset I have decided that I want to pursue a career in ... Show more

While I was observing there, I got to experience a normal day as a bank teller and got to have a
one on one conversation with Robert Hoffman, a financial advisor. The thing that stuck out the
most while talking to Mr. Hoffman was how he explained his job, Most Americans don t
understand finances. Financial planning is much like a GPS, You need to know where you are
and where want to be, it s my job to tell you how to get there (Hoffman). What he said stuck to
me not only because he explained his job so simply but also because he s passionate about his
job and was excited that I m interested in doing what he does. Also while shadowing, I got the
chance to interview a member consultant, Laura Grunenfelder. When I asked about her typical
day, she said A typical day for me is making sure my team has the tools they need to complete
their job, making sure we ve satisfied our customers expectations and keeping the branch safe
and secure (Grunenfelder). When I asked about what technology is used she said Computers are
so important to being a teller. If the system crashes, it slows us down a lot. We also use social
media to advertise our branch, we have team members overseeing our social media accounts
(Grunenfelder). With the information I have gathered on my job shadow I am finding myself more

The Case of Park City University
In the present case, Park City University has failed to show history and continuing practice of
expanding opportunities for women athletes. Unlike Cohen, Part City University cannot
establish that it has a great history of program expansion for the underrepresented sex. In Cohen,
the court found that Brown had a history of expansion because it implemented 14 women s
programs between 1971 and 1977, followed by their last program expansion in 1982. In
contrast, in the present case Park City University implemented just seven women s teams
between 1970 and 1990 followed by their last expansion in 2003. In comparison to Cohen, Park
City University added just half number of teams in almost twenty years of the time period.
Additionally, applying the court s reasoning of Cohen in the present case, Park City University
failed to continue to expand its program in response to the interests and abilities of women, since
it did not make efforts to increase opportunity for women athletes for the time period of 22 years.
If Park City University had added women s teams between 1990 and 2003, and then refused to
establish women s golf team, the court would find Park City University in compliance with the
continuing practice of program expansion requirement. Since, it is apparent that Park City
University had failed to provide a history and continuing practice of program expansion for
females, it did not satisfy the prong two tests under Title IX three part test. On the other hand, in

Panax Notoginseng Research Papers
Growing up as an Asian American, height has been a topic that arose amongst the conversations.
In Chinese culture, parents often like to showcase their kids and like to brag about their
accomplishments, their goals and their physical appearance. With that in mind, families
including mine took height as an obstacle that would make my family proud. Puberty affected
my body around the end of my elementary school. I specially remember when I was in Taiwan
and was on my way to my friend s house, when my mom gave me a dark, oily brown colored
soup put in a water bottle. My mom told me to drink it on the way to his house and the taste was
so bad that I almost fainted that night. The soup was composed of a Chinese herb prescribed for
growth enhancement. This Chinese herb that was prescribed was known as Panax Notoginseng,
also known as Tienchi Ginseng and my mom believed that this soup increased height. Eventually I
started to believe that plants had the ability to increase body growth such as my height. However,
after looking up many resources, I found that Panax Notoginseng had many different effects that
promoted health but didn t necessarily increase height.
After several hours of research, many of those hours, including frustration at the failure to a ... Show

hopefulness. One of the traits Summer displays is her compassion towards others around her.

me go. Please. I m not Lily. Please, I begged and gripped the side of my throbbing head. My

Summer shows fear because she has no clue what is going to happen down there and if she will
make it out alive. Even though Summer s fear grows more and more everyday due to Clover
becoming more violent with the girls she does her best to hide it. Summer shows this by,
Pushing the fear deep down inside me, I pulled the door open and forced myself to smile, (103).
To keep herself from being killed so she has to try to play along with Clovers lifestyle. While
Clover is trying to kill all four of the girls, Summer does not know how to handle herself.
Summer justifies this by stating, I sank to the floor, feeling so scared and alone it made my heart
ache, (150). Once she is down in the cellar for over six months everything becomes too much for

Compare And Contrast Salt And Saline Soil
4. SALTS CREATE SALINE, SODIC, AND SALINE CONDITION IN SOIL:
Saline soils contain adequate amounts of salts to harm plants growth prominently. It may be
identified by white or light brown crusts on the soil surface. Saline soils usually have an EC of
more than 4 mmho cm 1. Salts that are usually created in saline soils include NaCl (table salt),
CaCl2, gypsum (CaSO4), magnesium sul¬fate, potassium chloride and sodium sulfate.
The pH of saline soils is generally below 8.5. The normal desired range is 6.0 to 7.0, but many
Texas soils are naturally 7.5 to 8.3. Leaching the salts from these soils does not increase the pH of
saline soils. On the other hand Saline sodic soils are same as saline soils, except that they have

The Waves Zone And The Mid Tide Zone
As the Cellana denticulata is distributed in the upper lower intertidal zone and the mid tide zone it
must be able to withstand the upper lower intertidal zone and the mid tide zone as the rocky shore
experiences tidal fluctuations (abiotic factor) that occurs in a regular pattern in which the beach has
submerged areas and desiccated areas (the niche of the Cellana denticulata) this is an abiotic factor
that affects their survival. Tidal fluctuations are when the tide(sea) comes in and submerges areas
of the rocky shore while others are exposed. The tide ranges in vertical differences along the rocky
shore; from high tide, mid tide to low tide this is called zonation. These are the tides that fluctuate
in a regular pattern along the rocky shore and this is mainly due to the gravitation pull of the moon.
However the sun also affects the tides but has less gravitational force as the sun is further away
from earth. The gravitational pull of the moon is the main cause for tidal fluctuations as the moon
has a stronger gravitational pull as it is closer to the earth than the sun, hence the main cause for
tidal fluctuations as the gravitational pull from the moon exerted onto earth is greater than the
earth. Because the earth is in constant motion of rotation the earth and the moon become closer in
distance as the earth is not perfectly round and has uneven surfaces. These uneven surfaces or areas
of the earth are closer in distance to the moon and therefore the gravitational pull

in the world. They have the San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, and many sport teams. To
begin with, The Golden Gate Bridge is one of many attractions in San Francisco. The bridge was
built in 1937 by Joseph Strauss and Charles Ellis. The bridge stretches 8,981 feet with a height
746 feet. The bridge is one of the best sights to see in America. And to finish off, the bridge is just

Regulating Food Labels
Food labels were made to be a helpful tool for the average customer, but over time they have
become hard to understand and a secret that food companies are hiding behind. The Food and
Drug Administration, also known as the FDA, are in charge of making sure food labels are easy to
read and understand for the consumers. But when they are doing the inspections, they turn a blind
eye to the labelbecause the companies are bribing them to. The FDA has made some acts, such as
FD C and the Fair packaging and Labeling Act, to prevent these loopholes from happening. The FD
C Act stands for Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. This act started in 1938 when Congress
passed down the authority of overseeing the safety of food, drugs, and cosmetics. Another... Show

These loopholes aren t as big as others, for instance using pink slime instead of meat, but they are
significant to the consumers health. One of the major ways to get around these rules is by putting
sugar into different names, One of the most common tricks is to distribute sugars among many
ingredients so that sugars don t appear in the top three. For example, a manufacturer may use a
combination of sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup solids, brown sugar, dextrose and
other sugar ingredients to make sure none of them are present in large enough quantities to attain
a top position on the ingredients list(remember, the ingredients are listed in order of their
proportion in the food, with the most common ingredients listed first). (Zerbo s Health Foods).
Normal customers do not understand the difference and believe that their food is healthy
because that is what the label tells them to believe. This connects back to the FPLA Act not
being strict enough because it is not against the rules to list the ingredients separate like they do
with sugar. Furthermore food companies are making other loopholes by not telling the FDA what
is exactly in the food that they are producing. Their is a 57 year old law that states the if a
ingredient is recognized as safe, then the company does not need to inform the FDA if they do not
want to, accessed on The Center for Public

The child may simply just behave when parents are around. Some strict parents are not open to

Essay On Beauty Of The Yard
Mesmerizing beauty of the yard:
Gazing out of my bedroom window one night, I witnessed a breathtaking view of the yard. As if
you are transferred into a fairy tale. The sky seemed like a piece of beautiful painting. The whole
ambiance of the space was captivating. The fluffy clouds were dancing around the moon making
the light falling on the ground to glimmer dramatically. By the passing time the cloud shift shapes
into something new and exciting each time. The stone pathway led one to the exquisite marble
fountain. The soft moonlight hitting the marble make it shine as white as pearls. The moonlight
made everything, the flowers the tree leaves and bushes all glittered like jewels. A light breeze
was making the branches dance to their own rhythm. The cool wind carrying the smell of the
flowers was a reminder of a spring day. The chirping of night life added more life to the whole
scenario. The soothing environment of the yard portrayed the idea of how the heaven must look like.

manages to pass through the clouds highlights the broken fountain more revealing its flaws. The
moonlight escaping the clutches of the clouds cast terrifying shadows. The cold breeze sways the

Hades Greek God
There are many gods, but one god in particular is the god of the underworld, and this god is
known as Hades. Hades is a very important part of the greek civilization, because he overthrew the
Titans and then the giants. Hades and his brothers came together to decide who would rule which
part of the lands. In conclusion, Hadesbecame the god of the underworld.
The greek god hades controls the dark underworld, it s where you go after you die, and where
other dark creatures linger there, such as cerberus. Cerberus is hades three headed dog that lives in
the dark guarding the gate of hell . Cerberus kept the living from entering through the gates to enter

He simply ruled the land of darkness, but was not considered an evil god. Though this god was
not equivalent to the devil, he performed many frowned upon actions. Perhaps this is why the
Greeks turned their heads away from him. The Greeks believed associating yourself with hades
meant you were cursed for the rest of your life and spend your afterlife in the cold, dark,
underworld where you lived in shame.
Hades appearance was said to be a tall dark figure. His facial features were very precise, and he
had a full length beard. The beard was black. The underworld was described as a huge, never
ending, dark land that had massive death rivers surrounding it. When entering through the Gates
of hades you will be unfriendly greeted by Cerberus the 3 headed dog, and you will feel cold and
lonely. Some say you re tortured, others describe it as loneliness. Many theories of which have
been described.
In conclusion, Hades will always play a small role in the Greek God Mythology. Being known as
a god of the underworld, and being an unlucky figure left Hades with very few stories. The stories
we do have on the god show us his powerful might, and his strength to threaten those who disobey

Alaska Fish Trap Essay
The use of fish traps in the 1950s almost completely depleted salmon runs in some areas of
Alaska. A fish trap is a big, fixed wooden structure, placed at the mouth of a stream to funnel to
tons of fish into a massive net. Fish traps were also adapted to float so they could be a little bit
easier to transfer in the winter. Fishtraps needed little labor to keep them running, and they also kept
the fish live which was important to the seller, which made them a good economic investment. The
extensive use of the fish traps, and other fixed fishinggear heavily impacted the region and the
Native people of Alaska. Fish traps were a very controversial topic throughout Alaska in the 50 s
and 60 s. These fixed fish traps were extremely efficient, catching almost 600,000 fish annually
and, they had a very low escape rate. Fish traps caught so many salmonthat areas were completely
depleted, and left Native villages without one of their main sources of food. The result of the
residents of Alaska unhappiness with fish traps made the White Act of 1924 come into play. This
act required an escapement rate of 50% off all salmon, this means if you catch 100 fish you have
to let 50 back into the water. The White Act also included that the Secretary of Commerce can

Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok
depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny
Saunders. The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and
David Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to
improve, learn more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons
seek wisdom and knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships
with each other, and pursue personal excellence.
These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The
boys were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who
planned to become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically.
Danny loved psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi,
he did not allow Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torahis not
such a simple thing. Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often
snuck to a place in the library to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even
began questioning whether or not he wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on
him to take his place, and if he did not it would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views
on schooling and the importance of education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons
to fulfill their roles in life or to follow their dreams the boys needed an education.
The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb
Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny
and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be
strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having
hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). Mr. Malter explained to Reuven that he should
forgive Danny who had come to ask for forgiveness after hitting Reuven in

on top of the list in terms of seniority because Southwest is the parent company, AirTran have
pilots with international destination experience and these pilots will want to head the list as they
have more real time experience. Southwest had to decide whether to merge pilots from both the
organizations together or to place AirTran s pilots below the Southwest pilots. Either way, either
of the organization s pilots would be affected. It was a very crucial decision for Southwest because
they have to keep in mind both the employees before coming up with a result. In November 2011,
Southwest Airlines more than 6,000 pilots and AirTran Airways1,700 pilots overwhelmingly

The Impact Of Japonisme On European Art
A few centuries ago Western world could only perceive Japanese culture through the stories of
travellers, merchants and writers. However, as the transport and communication technologies
advanced, Japanese culture outspread giving the start to Japonisme (French term). It appeared at the
end of XIX century when isolation ended and japanese art arrived to the West. Japonisme had a huge
effect on Western artists making them rethink the way they view world. So, the aim of this paper is
to
reveal the impact of Japonisme on the European art, more precisely, to answer the question:
„How did
Japanese art influence Western designers in the 19 th Century? quot;.

which were thoroughly authentic, for all their fairy tale, never land aura, and conveyed affirmative
information about the Far East. A more realistic perception of China and Japan was promoted by the
international exhibitions of the later nineteenth century. However, considering that in the
seventeenth and eighteenth centuries the firsthand experience was not accessible to the majority of
artists, and that channels of communication were still undeveloped, European knowledge of
Japanese art was already extremely extensive.

Eating Disorders in Adolescents
Eating Disorders in Adolescents
Eating Disorders in Adolescents
Introduction
Eating disorder in adolescents is a source of grave alarm. An effective definition of eating
disorders, as they are evident in school surroundings, describes victim of eating disorder as being
extensively anxious and conscious about food, weight, and body shape. This results in being
engaged in strange eating behaviors (Gowers Bryant Waugh, 2004). This paper seeks to investigate
the effects of eating disorders on adolescent s life and education and comprehensive school based
model of interventions is suggested for the prevention and treatment of this disorder.
The Effect of an Eating Disorder
Two of the most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa and they have
a prospective to effect on the person experiencing this disorder on lasting physical health, social,
emotional, and cognitive development. These disorders can sometimes prove to be a great threat
to life. Many adolescents are forced to postpone their schooling even as they search for treatment.
Therefore this amplifies the likely harmful effects of their situation on their social and cognitive
development. It is very much possible that with the passage of time the condition of eating disorder
will aggravate and it will become more obvious and will ultimately affect their moods and physical
health (Hoek Hoeken, 2003). The imbalanced and inadequate diet affects the adolescent s brains
and cognitive function

The Problem Of Cell 13, By Jacques Futrelle
Everybody has something they love and are committed to. Unquestionably, in the short story, The
Problem of Cell 13, by Jacques Futrelle, Professor Augustus S.F.X. Van Dusen is not an exception.
The Thinking Machine, as he is colloquially known as, is challenged by associates Dr. Charles
Ransome and Mr. Alfred Fielding to escape from a high security prison cell using only his mind.
Being as passionate as he is about logic, he accepts. In the story, Futrelle conveys the human
experience of commitment by using descriptive literary devices, and emphasizing the dynamic
character Dr. Charles Ransome. One indisputably evident theme infused into The Problem of Cell
13 is if you believe in something, you should go to great lengths for it.... Show more content on

Another example on page 249 reads, You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under
sentence of death, and I would leave the cell (Futrelle). This shows that The Thinking Machine is
claiming to be able to think his way out of a cell in order to document his claim. Because he is so
passionate about logic, he is willing to spend a week in this cell, and eventually succeeds at
escaping. Therefore,
Dr. Charles Ransome is a dynamic character. In the story, Dr. Ransome is a scientist who strongly
believes The Thinking Machine cannot escape a high security prison. An early attribute Dr.
Ransome carries is his doubtfulness giving rise to uncertainty ( Doubtful ). In fact, on page 249,
Dr. Ransome reasons, No man can think himself out of a cell (Futrelle). Although The Thinking
Machine says he can escape, Dr. Ransome still doubts the possibility of The Thinking Machine
living up to his name and thinking his way out of a cell. A conversation takes place on page 249
between The Thinking Machine and Dr. Ransome: You might treat me precisely as you treated
prisoners under the sentence of death, and I would leave the cell.
Not unless you entered it with tools prepared to get out, said Dr. Ransome. (Futrelle)
Again, Dr. Ransome questions The Thinking Machine by arguing he could only escape prison
using tools. He plainy does not believe The Thinking Machine s theory of anything being possible.
Because Dr. Ransome is a dynamic character, he

The Success Of An Overseas Business Venture
When a company is conducting business internationally, understanding the culture of the country or
region, it is doing business with, as well as making sure the business fits the culture where it is
doing business, is extremely important. Not understanding the culture could mean that the product
or service affects the competitiveness, marketing, and could even have some political ramifications.
An understanding of the country s language, attitudes and beliefs, religion, material culture, social
education, legal characteristics, and political structures can have a positive impact on the
success of an overseas business venture. In order to run a successful international business, a
business manager must also become a student of culture and diversity. Before choosing a global
market to sell a product or service, a company needs to make sure that the product or service is a
good fit for the culture. It is important to know if the product or service is something that the
culture of the country would need or want. As an example, if a company sells cowboy hats, they
are not likely to be very successful in a country where the culture and religion requires the people
to wear turbans. Knowing the culture and its religions is important when choosing a country for as
a global market. To be successful, a company will want to know that its product or service will sell,
and being successful in the United Statesdoes not necessarily mean that a product or service will do

Effects Of Oral On Athletic Performance And Health
The Effect of Oral ATP Supplements on Athletic Performance and Health
Abstract
During the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has continuously gained
popularity and recognition as a successful nutritional strategy to gain muscle mass and strength.
Countless studies have been conducted to observe the effects of creatine supplementation on
physical performance of individuals, along with its effect on the health of the tested individuals.
These studies have found that creatine supplementation does indeed have a beneficial effect on
physical performance by increasing strength and muscle mass, while not providing any serious
health concerns to those who consume it.
Literature Review
Over the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has been gaining immense
popularity, with documented sales from $50 million in 1996 (Bamberger, 1998) to over $400
million during 2001 (Metzl et al., 2001). Creatine supplementation first started to gain popularity
after Olympic athletes from the Barcelona Olympic Games believed that their performance had
benefited from taking creatine supplements (Anderson, 1993). Since then, creatine has become one
of the most widely utilized nutritional supplements worldwide (Williams et al., 1999). A reason for
this may be that creatine is not banned by the National Collegiate Athlete Association (NCAA) or
the International Olympic Committee. However, NCAA coaches are not allowed to provide
creatine for their

Effect Of Power Quality On A Smooth Industrial Process
Abstract As industries expand, utilities become more interconnected and the use of electricity
rises, power quality becomes essential to insure a smooth industrial process. The main problem
that severely affects the power s quality is the presence of the harmonics, which affects the

Role of Arbitration and Mediation in the Legal System
Part1: Arbitration and mediation In general, arbitration is a more formal method of alternative
dispute resolution than mediation. Arbitrators generally act similar to a judge and make
decisions about evidence and give written opinions, which can be binding or non binding
(Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). There may be one or more
arbiters selected by both sides, or a third selected by the mutual arbiter. The methods deployed
are often very similar to that of a court room. In contrast, mediation is generally conducted before
a single mediator who does not judge the case but helps facilitate a discussion and eventual
resolution of the dispute (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law).
Mediation has a high success rate, but this may be due to the fact that parties which select
mediation tend to be less polarized. Both forms of ADR can be advantageous, given that they
are less costly and also can keep the anger involved to a minimum. A compromise can be reached
that is mutually advantageous to both sides, and alternative solutions can be found that will not
necessarily be allowed in a more formal jury system. Mediation and arbitration can also be
embarked upon more quickly than a lawsuit, which enables the parties involved to engage in
dialogue before conflicts get out of hand. And in some disputes, such as divorce, there are often
many grey areas, with no clear, single person who is in the wrong or right.

the hole in the pipes. This thing will eventually become a bigger problem than before. What is
Syo diagnosis? What is the basic principle of Syo diagnosis? Syo diagnosis as the name implies is
a method of diagnosis and unlike modern medicine which classifies the problem with the
symptoms. The diagnosis is achieved through dynamic interaction with the client. The diagnosis is

Bipolar Disorder And Mental Health
Bipolar Disorder is otherwise known as manic depressive illness. It is a brain disorder that
causes shifts in moods, energy, activity levels, and the ability to carry out daily tasks. (Cite)
These changes in behavior are outside of the norm as most people have ups and downs
throughout their daily routines. But those with Bipolar Disorder experience shifts in mood that
can be damaging to relationships, as well as their overall school and work performances. (Cite) I
chose this disorder as the topic for my paper because a few years back my mother was diagnosed
with the disorder. I have always been curious whether or not I would end up like her, later on in
life, with the same manic depressive illness. And if I did end up with this disorder I wonder if I
would pass it onto my children. According to the National Institute of Mental Health there are
four individual types of bipolar disorder: Bipolar Disorder I, Bipolar Disorder II, Cyclothymic
Disorder, and Bipolar Disorder Not Otherwise Specified . My mother has Rapid Cycling Bipolar
Disorder and she has been hospitalized quite a few times for psych evaluations. Those who
experience rapid cycling can go between depression and mania as often as a few times a week

The Green Gulch by Loren Eiseley
The author of Green Gulch conveys that when in a group, one can be overwhelmed by pressure
that brings them to savage extremes. After being lost, a young boy joins a group of kids he has
never seen before. The group is nice and offers to bring the boy home. They stop at a sanctuary of
a pond. There is a turtle in the pond that is violently murdered by the boys after one decides to
throw a rock. Then, the group turns on the new boy. They beat him maliciously and leave him
stranded on the road to get home. As, the boy look backs he can t think of what went wrong, They
stood in a little group watching me, nervous now, ashamed a little at the ferocious pack impulse
toward the outsider that had swept them. Obvious from the boys reactions, it was the fault of the
group impulse. After the murderof turtle, the adrenaline and riot of the group caused them to turnon
the next vulnerable target. They were not acting as they should have, and the realize that
afterwards. They were nervous. Even though there is not immediately an adult around, they are
nervous because society has conditioned them to behave. They are also ashamed. The shame
shows that they are nice boys. They feel bad. This shows that the vicious group mind set was so
strong that it came over there good personalities and conscious. However, there is only this slight
remorse after the fact. This does not make up for the brutal murder and beating that they had dealt.

Designing A Computer Network -such
There are many things to consider when designing a computer network such as costs of
components, software and labor; communication, cohesion, expandability and many others.
However, the end goal in such an enterprise is to have a fully functional, harmonious, and
cohesive tiered system where duties and actions are divided, and delineated accordingly. One of
the major network architectures used to facilitate this process is known as the TCP/IP Protocol
Suite. The TCP/IP Protocol Suite was designed by scientists in the effort to support a new type
of network known as the ARAPNET that was being installed across the US in the late 60 s to 70
s. (White, 2013, p. 15) The challenge was to create an open system whereby all networks could
freely communicate with each other. The design was based on a layered system whereby the
user would connect at the topmost (or application) layer, while at the same time being removed
or separated from the lower (physical) layer. Although the number of layers is not exactly set,
depending on the source this number can range between five and seven layers, with each layer
providing services to the layer above it. For the purposes of this discussion however, we will
address the five layer model. The five layers of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite are: Application,
Transport, Network, Network Access (or Data Link), and Physical. (White, 2013, p. 15) Application
This layer supports all of the applications on the network. Some of the most frequent

A Summary Of HIPPA Hurdles
In his Modern Healthcare article, HIPPA Hurdles , author Joe Carlson exclaims his concern for
the new rules set in HIPPA that will be put into place this month. HIPPA is a set of measures,
and laws, that healthcare provider s take to ensure they are safeguarding patient s health
information (Carlson 2013). Carlson is speaking up for most healthcare providers when he
describes his distaste for these new provisions in the Omnibus HIPPA Final Rule. The main
issue in these provisions states that providers will have to Honor requests from patients to
withhold sensitive records from insurance companies if the bills are paid out of pocket. (Carlson
2013). He asserts that the reason this will become an issue is because no one has the technology
to simply safeguard one hospital or doctor visit from insurers, and that their own technological
programs compile everything together and make this request difficult. While this new rule may
be helping out patients, it will be causing more hardships and possible punishments when the
healthcare providers forget or are not able to do as the patient asks. By grabbing his audience s
attention through appealing to our logic and emotions, Carlson does succeed in informing us
about these new concerns. Throughout Carlson s article he uses a great deal of other
commentary to help get his point across. With that being said, this allows readers to gain trust in
what he is writing about because the credentials of these said people are worthy and believable.
Carlson will begin speaking about how getting these healthcare providers to comply with the
new provisions will be a hard task. He then will finish it off with a quote like, Overall,
compliance is an ongoing effort and it is something that entities should be thinking about every
day, says Susan McAndrew, deputy director for health information privacy at the Office for Civil
Rights. It needs to be on everyone s mind, not something that they will think about once a year (as
cited in Carlson, 2013). Carlson makes sure he gets his point across, but also makes sure the
readers know he has done a great deal of research on this topic so as to slowly gain their trust
throughout his article. Another instance can be taken from when

The Historical Context of The Bhagavad Gita and Its Relation to Indian Religious Doctrines
The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most famous, and definitely the most widely read, ethical text of
ancient India. As an episode in India s great epic, the Mahabharata, The Bhagavad Gita now ranks
as one of the three principal texts that define and capture the essence of Hinduism; the other two
being the Upanishads and the Brahma Sutras. Though this work contains much theology, its kernel
is ethical and its teaching is set in the context of an ethical problem. The teaching of The Bhagavad
Gita is summed up in the maxim your business is with the deed and not with the result. When

refused to return the kingdom to the Panadavas and honor the agreement after the fourteen year

reduced demand for a few villages instead of the entire kingdom. As the battle is about to begin,
Arjuna, himself an acclaimed warrior, wonders how he could kill his own blood relatives with
whom he had grown up as a child. He puts the battle on hold and begins a conversation with Krishna
, one of the ten but most important incarnations of the Universal Hindu God, Vishnu. The
Bhagavad Gita begins here and ends with Krishna convincing Arjuna that in the grand scheme of
things, he is only a pawn. The best he could do is do his duty and not question God s will. It was
his duty to fight. In convincing Arjuna, the Lord Krishna provides a philosophy of life and restores
Arjuna s nerve to begin the battle a battle that had been stalled because the protagonist had lost his
nerve and needed time to reexamine his moral values.

texts that define the essence of Hinduism, and since all over the world Hindus chant from the Gita
during most of their religious ceremonies, strictly speaking the Gita is not one of the Hindu

Analysis Of The Book Fences
Fences: Troy Maxson An apocalypse is defined as a deeper understanding of the world that results
in a type of closure. Furthermore, a personal apocalypse would be described as an understanding of
an event or situation that results in a closure, such as the end of a struggle or situation, or even

Less than one year into his second presidency, Franklin D. Roosevelt was tasked with consoling a
country in a national state of hysteria. Events in World War II, including the Japanese attack on

As a response to the Americans citizens anxiety, Franklin D. Rooseveltpassed Executive Order9066

to exile and deprive the rights of Japanese aliens, as well as innocent Japanese Americans.

History commonly repeats itself and America s political trends seem to be mirroring those of
President Roosevelt s time period. Donald Trump recently attempted to enact a travel ban on many
middle eastern countries, he did this with the intentions of decreasing American fear of terror
threats and controlling radical islamic terrorist by targeting majority islamic countries and
essentially banning them from America. This travel ban is eerily similar to Executive Order 9066.
Both President Roosevelt and President Trump utilize modern technology, favor isolationist values,
avoid taking moral responsibility for their actions, and fail to honor traditional American values.
They also share the fact that their actions and foreign policies encouraged racial hostility and
perpetuating stereotypes. The only apparent difference between these presidents is that President
Trump has an example before him, giving him an insight on how his actions may play out in the
real world, while Roosevelt could only guess how his would play out. No matter how thoroughly
President Roosevelt thought about his decision to sign Executive Order 9066, he could not have
predicted the outcome. An American president doing something of this nature was unheard of and
never done before, like many of his actions. Although he

Google Books and the Controversy
Google Books and the Controversy
The progress in relation to Google books has of late sparked a cause for closer look in relation to
the issue. All these problems have emanated from the argument by Google in the year 2005, that
the company would start a scanning process on books and digitalize them in order to create a web
based library for the world. By the year 2011, Google had gone ahead and rolled out this plan
working with various partners in the scanning certain books and availing them online. Google books
have faced controversy because of various issues such as copyright infringement. As pertains to
copyright infringement, there has been raging debate that Google was violating the provision by
scanning contents of books whose authors had not died in the past 70 years (Baksik 405).
There have also been issues regarding censorship and invasion of privacy, which probe a closer
look into this issue. Economic implications have also been among the important mention as
pertain to Google books with incisive looks also essential to help gather all the essential details.
Controversy has also stemmed in the basis of agreements, which seems to give Google an upper
hand in the arguments, an issue which is believed to be unfair to other players in the agreements.
Thus speaking, it can broadly be accepted that there are serious issues pertaining Google books that
have to be resolved if fairness is to be realized.
Copyright Infringement has been one of the mentions regarding the

How Language Can Help Your Child Learn Sight Words

How to Use Sign Language to Help Your Child Learn Sight Words
Sign language has many beneficial uses for young children. Not only are you teaching your child a
way to communicate other than talking, but you can also teach them other things. I have found that
using sign language to teach sight words very beneficial. This project is perfect for those parents
who have already started teaching their toddler sign language. Your toddler will first need to have
the alphabet basics of sign language down packed, before moving on to sight words. The first
thing that you will need to do is create a list of sight words. You can purchase sight wordflashcards
from your local Walgreens store, or even online at Walgreens.com. Once you have your flashcards
you can start with the first word.
You can start by picking the first word that you will work with for the week. Show your child
how to sign that first word. When you show them the way to make the word with their hands
you can also show them the card. This should be your project of the first week. Stick with one
word for at least a few weeks. Remember you don t want to be in any hurry to teach your child
each words. Allow them to take their time and slowly learn their sign language sight words. Not
only will you be helping them get started on the way to reading, with their eyes, but they will also
be learning how to better communicate with their hands.
Helping them to learn to sign with their hands is a great way to keep learning

Color And Symbolism In Doctor Zhivago Film
Doctor Zhivago Unlike The Grand Budapest Hotel where the filmmakers are banking on additional
viewings, Doctor Zhivago decides to use color sparingly, but effectively, on the first viewing. By
doing this, the filmmakers of Doctor Zhivago are ensuring that everyone who watches the film
leaves with an understanding of the colorchoices; one doesn t have to watch the filmmultiple times
to get it . The goal of Doctor Zhivago was to illustrate that eternal love and hope amidst war and
strife is possible which is reinforced by connecting war with neutral colors. However, even
amongst saddening times, perseverance will bring about moments of color and positivity. In
addition, color can also symbolize one s emotions in regard to the eruption of... Show more content

Even though Yuri s surroundings are usually neutral, the filmmakers demonstrate Design as
Punctuation in regards to Lara because her surroundings always have one patch of high contrast
area, mostly flowers, standing out amongst the drab and the gray (Srivastava, p. 10). In the same
way how the yellow stands out visually, the audience is able to make the connection that Lara
stands out to Yuri despite the chaos in Moscow. As Yuri looks at the field of daffodils, he
himself is reminded of Lara and smiles. The shot then slowly fades out from the daffodils and
transitions onto Lara s face. The color yellow symbolizes the pulsation of life that has figured
throughout the story which ties into how Zhivago means life (The Art of Film, p. 72 73). In such
a war torn setting, these little daffodils symbolize love, hope, and life among the neutrals and the
chaos. The film successfully communicates the importance of perseverance through the color
yellow by slowly slowly sprinkling it throughout the film, allowing yellow to [acquire] emotional
meaning in sequence and in time (The Art of Film, p. 72 73). Even at his grave there are daffodils
which symbolizes how their connection will live on forever. In fact, the entirety of the story is built
on their daughter, Tanya, listening to their love story. Their love lives on through

Similarities Between Jefferson And Amy Winehouse
What does Thomas Jefferson and Amy Winehouse in common? Obviously not the winged eyeliner,
nor the drug addiction tendencies, yet I argue some of their most well known and popular work are
almost parallel when taken out of contexts. Thomas Jefferson s Declaration of Independence, and
Amy Winehouse s, Tears Dry on Their Own, show direct correlations between taking a stand and
finding their independence, and being tired of shady men in their life playing games.
Obviously there s a huge difference between the old english style that the Declaration of
Independence was written in and Amy s suava jazzy tone, but both authors proclaim this sense of
self righteousness; therefore, they claim this independence from the man who did them wrong
whether it was a king or a bad ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How Is Personification Used In The Book Thief
Markus Zusak, in his novel The Book Thief, set in 1939 Nazi Germany, raises many ideas, one
of which is the power of words. Through various techniques including characterisation,
personification, and similes, Zusak conveys messages about the power of words such as their
intent, their ability to form bonds between people, and their importance as vessels of language.
Many times, throughout The Book Thief, Zusak describes words as if they were living things,
which gives them personality and shows us that words can have intent separate to that of the
speaker. Through clever personification he gives personality and traits to words, and helps
describe the feelings of characters, such as Hans visible hangover that heaved itself to his
shoulders and sat there like a bag of wet cement. The words also come to life with descriptive
language that shows words were perched on their shoulders, resting on their heads and hanging
from their arms, as Liesel and Hans spoke, and, in a different light, the weakness of Liesel s
words as they, fell off the side of the bed, emptying onto the floor like powder. Words are also
described as having a, human flavour. This makes the audience... Show more content on

The most obvious relationship is that between Hans and Liesel, which is at first facilitated by
their reading The Gravedigger s Handbook. However, words also act as a catalyst for Liesel s
relationships with Max and Rudy, as well as for the comfort of everyone in the shelter. Liesel s
relationship with Max started by asking about Mein Kampf, and upon learning that it was the,
best book ever, and, saved [his] life. Also, stealing books from Ilsa s library brought Liesel and
Rudy, her, best friend, closer. Through these scenes and the development of Liesel s relationships
with other characters the audience is shown the power of words in bringing people

Welfare Of The Welfare State
The welfare state in Britain as we know it today did not exist, looking back through the 18th and
19th Centuries many of the social welfare benefits that are available to Britain s today were not
even imaginable to the people at that time. Today much of the help that is available to those in the
margins of society is seen as an obligation for the state to correct. However in the Elizabethan Era
the attitudes towards welfareand the poor were very negative and unsympathetic. In this essay I will
be discussing welfare before the classic welfare state, the provisions for poor, the key features of
the welfare state and why it was developed.
The key features of the welfare state are very linked to the 1942 report on Social Insurance and
Allied Services or also known as the Beveridge Report. The key features I have identified of the
classic welfare state is the National Health Service (NHS), Social insurance, Housing, Education
and Full employment. Asa Briggs a British historian defined the welfare state as a state which
...organised power is deliberately used in order to play of the market in 3 direction; by
guaranteeing an individuals a minimum income, narrowing extent of insecurity by enabling
people to meet certain social contingencies which lead to family or individual crisis and thirdly by
ensuring that all citizens without distinction of status or class are offered the best standards
available to a certain agreed range of social services . Kauffman and DeSwaan also

This essay will analyze Eric, a character who is shown in a play/book An inspector calls , written by
J.B Priestly. The play was performed for the first time in 1945, but The book takes place in
1912. The book takes place in a fictional town called Brumley . The plot of this book is to show
how women were treated at the time and how people didn t really act towards this unfair
treatment against women. World War II had just ended and Europe had to rebuild all of it again.
Assuming by the storyline of the book, J.B priestly seems to have a very strong view and option
on social inequality in Great Britain. He was not afraid to share his opinions and thoughts publicly.

Eric is a character created by J.B Priestley Personally; there aren t any connections between
Priestley s past and Eric. From Eric s point of view, the whole story wasn t for him, rather he was
just a side character
Eric is an alcoholic or a heavy drinker, but he plays an important role in Eva Smiths death. He
really made a lot of mistakes in the past and he feels quilt towards his father, but one thing that
he doesn t feel about was drinking. The reason to this might be caused by his own actions that
lead to embarrassment and the only way to get it out was to have a cup of wine. Eric s addiction
to alcohol really makes him seem like a young person who is still trying to develop skills to reduce
stress and embarrassment towards his family and others.

Unlike Cohen, Part City University cannot establish that it has a great history of program expansion for the underrepresented sex. In Cohen, the court found that Brown had a history of expansion because it implemented 14 women s programs between 1971 and 1977, followed by their last program expansion in 1982. In contrast, in the present case Park City University implemented just seven women s teams between 1970 and 1990 followed by their last expansion in 2003. In comparison to Cohen, Park City University added just half number of teams in almost twenty years of the time period. Additionally, applying the court s reasoning of Cohen in the present case, Park City University failed to continue to expand its program in response to the interests and abilities of women, since it did not make efforts to increase opportunity for women athletes for the time period of 22 years. If Park City University had added women s teams between 1990 and 2003, and then refused to establish women s golf team, the court would find Park City University in compliance with the continuing practice of program expansion requirement. Since, it is apparent that Park City University had failed to provide a history and continuing practice of program expansion for females, it did not satisfy the prong two tests under Title IX three part test. The Waves Zone And The Mid Tide Zone As the Cellana denticulata is distributed in the upper lower intertidal zone and the mid tide zone it must be able to withstand the upper lower intertidal zone and the mid tide zone as the rocky shore experiences tidal fluctuations (abiotic factor) that occurs in a regular pattern in which the beach has submerged areas and desiccated areas (the niche of the Cellana denticulata) this is an abiotic factor that affects their survival. Tidal fluctuations are when the tide(sea) comes in and submerges areas of the rocky shore while others are exposed. The tide ranges in vertical differences along the rocky shore; from high tide, mid tide to low tide this is called zonation. These are the tides that fluctuate in a regular pattern along the rocky shore and this is mainly due to the gravitation pull of the moon. However the sun also affects the tides but has less gravitational force as the sun is further away from earth. The gravitational pull of the moon is the main cause for tidal fluctuations as the moon has a stronger gravitational pull as it is closer to the earth than the sun, hence the main cause for tidal fluctuations as the gravitational pull from the moon exerted onto earth is greater than the earth. Because the earth is in constant motion of rotation the earth and the moon become closer in distance as the earth is not perfectly round and has uneven surfaces. The Food and Drug Administration, also known as the FDA, are in charge of making sure food labels are easy to read and understand for the consumers. These loopholes aren t as big as others, for instance using pink slime instead of meat, but they are significant to the consumers health. One of the major ways to get around these rules is by putting sugar into different names, One of the most common tricks is to distribute sugars among many ingredients so that sugars don t appear in the top three. For example, a manufacturer may use a combination of sucrose, high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup solids, brown sugar, dextrose and other sugar ingredients to make sure none of them are present in large enough quantities to attain a top position on the ingredients list(remember, the ingredients are listed in order of their proportion in the food, with the most common ingredients listed first). (Zerbo s Health Foods). Normal customers do not understand the difference and believe that their food is healthy because that is what the label tells them to believe. This connects back to the FPLA Act not being strict enough because it is not against the rules to list the ingredients separate like they do with sugar. Furthermore food companies are making other loopholes by not telling the FDA what is exactly in the food that they are producing. A fish trap is a big, fixed wooden structure, placed at the mouth of a stream to funnel to tons of fish into a massive net. The Thinking Machine, as he is colloquially known as, is challenged by associates Dr. Charles Ransome and Mr. Alfred Fielding to escape from a high security prison cell using only his mind. Being as passionate as he is about logic, he accepts. In the story, Futrelle conveys the human experience of commitment by using descriptive literary devices, and emphasizing the dynamic character Dr. Charles Ransome. One indisputably evident theme infused into The Problem of Cell 13 is if you believe in something, you should go to great lengths for it.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example on page 249 reads, You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under sentence of death, and I would leave the cell (Futrelle). This shows that The Thinking Machine is claiming to be able to think his way out of a cell in order to document his claim. Because he is so passionate about logic, he is willing to spend a week in this cell, and eventually succeeds at escaping. Therefore, Dr. Charles Ransome is a dynamic character. In the story, Dr. Ransome is a scientist who strongly believes The Thinking Machine cannot escape a high security prison. An early attribute Dr. Ransome carries is his doubtfulness giving rise to uncertainty ( Doubtful ). In fact, on page 249, Dr. Ransome reasons, No man can think himself out of a cell (Futrelle). Although The Thinking Machine says he can escape, Dr. Ransome still doubts the possibility of The Thinking Machine living up to his name and thinking his way out of a cell. A conversation takes place on page 249 between The Thinking Machine and Dr. Ransome: You might treat me precisely as you treated prisoners under the sentence of death, and I would leave the cell. Not unless you entered it with tools prepared to get out, said Dr. Ransome. (Futrelle) Again, Dr. Ransome questions The Thinking Machine by arguing he could only escape prison using tools. He plainy does not believe The Thinking Machine s theory of anything being possible. Because Dr. Ransome is a dynamic character, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Success Of An Overseas Business Venture When a company is conducting business internationally, understanding the culture of the country or region, it is doing business with, as well as making sure the business fits the culture where it is doing business, is extremely important. Not understanding the culture could mean that the product or service affects the competitiveness, marketing, and could even have some political ramifications. An understanding of the country s language, attitudes and beliefs, religion, material culture, social education, legal characteristics, and political structures can have a positive impact on the success of an overseas business venture. In order to run a successful international business, a business manager must also become a student of culture and diversity. Before choosing a global market to sell a product or service, a company needs to make sure that the product or service is a good fit for the culture. It is important to know if the product or service is something that the culture of the country would need or want. As an example, if a company sells cowboy hats, they are not likely to be very successful in a country where the culture and religion requires the people to wear turbans. Knowing the culture and its religions is important when choosing a country for as a global market. Effects Of Oral On Athletic Performance And Health The Effect of Oral ATP Supplements on Athletic Performance and Health Abstract During the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has continuously gained popularity and recognition as a successful nutritional strategy to gain muscle mass and strength. Countless studies have been conducted to observe the effects of creatine supplementation on physical performance of individuals, along with its effect on the health of the tested individuals. These studies have found that creatine supplementation does indeed have a beneficial effect on physical performance by increasing strength and muscle mass, while not providing any serious health concerns to those who consume it. Literature Review Over the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has been gaining immense popularity, with documented sales from $50 million in 1996 (Bamberger, 1998) to over $400 million during 2001 (Metzl et al., 2001). Creatine supplementation first started to gain popularity after Olympic athletes from the Barcelona Olympic Games believed that their performance had benefited from taking creatine supplements (Anderson, 1993). Since then, creatine has become one of the most widely utilized nutritional supplements worldwide (Williams et al., 1999). A reason for this may be that creatine is not banned by the National Collegiate Athlete Association (NCAA) or the International Olympic Committee. • 31. Role of Arbitration and Mediation in the Legal System Part1: Arbitration and mediation In general, arbitration is a more formal method of alternative dispute resolution than mediation. Arbitrators generally act similar to a judge and make decisions about evidence and give written opinions, which can be binding or non binding (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). There may be one or more arbiters selected by both sides, or a third selected by the mutual arbiter. The methods deployed are often very similar to that of a court room. In contrast, mediation is generally conducted before a single mediator who does not judge the case but helps facilitate a discussion and eventual resolution of the dispute (Mediation versus arbitration versus litigation, 2008, Find Law). Mediation has a high success rate, but this may be due to the fact that parties which select mediation tend to be less polarized. Both forms of ADR can be advantageous, given that they are less costly and also can keep the anger involved to a minimum. A compromise can be reached that is mutually advantageous to both sides, and alternative solutions can be found that will not necessarily be allowed in a more formal jury system. Mediation and arbitration can also be embarked upon more quickly than a lawsuit, which enables the parties involved to engage in dialogue before conflicts get out of hand. And in some disputes, such as divorce, there are often many grey areas, with no clear, single person who is in the wrong or right. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. Designing A Computer Network -such There are many things to consider when designing a computer network such as costs of components, software and labor; communication, cohesion, expandability and many others. However, the end goal in such an enterprise is to have a fully functional, harmonious, and cohesive tiered system where duties and actions are divided, and delineated accordingly. One of the major network architectures used to facilitate this process is known as the TCP/IP Protocol Suite. The TCP/IP Protocol Suite was designed by scientists in the effort to support a new type of network known as the ARAPNET that was being installed across the US in the late 60 s to 70 s. (White, 2013, p. 15) The challenge was to create an open system whereby all networks could freely communicate with each other. The design was based on a layered system whereby the user would connect at the topmost (or application) layer, while at the same time being removed or separated from the lower (physical) layer. Although the number of layers is not exactly set, depending on the source this number can range between five and seven layers, with each layer providing services to the layer above it. For the purposes of this discussion however, we will address the five layer model. The five layers of the TCP/IP Protocol Suite are: Application, Transport, Network, Network Access (or Data Link), and Physical. (White, 2013, p. 15) Application This layer supports all of the applications on the network. Some of the most frequent ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. A Summary Of HIPPA Hurdles In his Modern Healthcare article, HIPPA Hurdles , author Joe Carlson exclaims his concern for the new rules set in HIPPA that will be put into place this month. HIPPA is a set of measures, and laws, that healthcare provider s take to ensure they are safeguarding patient s health information (Carlson 2013). Carlson is speaking up for most healthcare providers when he describes his distaste for these new provisions in the Omnibus HIPPA Final Rule. The main issue in these provisions states that providers will have to Honor requests from patients to withhold sensitive records from insurance companies if the bills are paid out of pocket. (Carlson 2013). He asserts that the reason this will become an issue is because no one has the technology to simply safeguard one hospital or doctor visit from insurers, and that their own technological programs compile everything together and make this request difficult. While this new rule may be helping out patients, it will be causing more hardships and possible punishments when the healthcare providers forget or are not able to do as the patient asks. By grabbing his audience s attention through appealing to our logic and emotions, Carlson does succeed in informing us about these new concerns. Throughout Carlson s article he uses a great deal of other commentary to help get his point across. With that being said, this allows readers to gain trust in what he is writing about because the credentials of these said people are worthy and believable. Carlson will begin speaking about how getting these healthcare providers to comply with the new provisions will be a hard task. He then will finish it off with a quote like, Overall, compliance is an ongoing effort and it is something that entities should be thinking about every day, says Susan McAndrew, deputy director for health information privacy at the Office for Civil Rights. It needs to be on everyone s mind, not something that they will think about once a year (as cited in Carlson, 2013). The Historical Context of The Bhagavad Gita and Its Relation to Indian Religious Doctrines The Bhagavad Gita is perhaps the most famous, and definitely the most widely read, ethical text of ancient India. As the battle is about to begin, Arjuna, himself an acclaimed warrior, wonders how he could kill his own blood relatives with whom he had grown up as a child. He puts the battle on hold and begins a conversation with Krishna , one of the ten but most important incarnations of the Universal Hindu God, Vishnu. • 45. Similarities Between Jefferson And Amy Winehouse What does Thomas Jefferson and Amy Winehouse in common? Obviously not the winged eyeliner, nor the drug addiction tendencies, yet I argue some of their most well known and popular work are almost parallel when taken out of contexts. Thomas Jefferson s Declaration of Independence, and Amy Winehouse s, Tears Dry on Their Own, show direct correlations between taking a stand and finding their independence, and being tired of shady men in their life playing games. Obviously there s a huge difference between the old english style that the Declaration of Independence was written in and Amy s suava jazzy tone, but both authors proclaim this sense of self righteousness; therefore, they claim this independence from the man who did them wrong whether it was a king or a bad ... • 46. How Is Personification Used In The Book Thief Markus Zusak, in his novel The Book Thief, set in 1939 Nazi Germany, raises many ideas, one of which is the power of words. Through various techniques including characterisation, personification, and similes, Zusak conveys messages about the power of words such as their intent, their ability to form bonds between people, and their importance as vessels of language. Many times, throughout The Book Thief, Zusak describes words as if they were living things, which gives them personality and shows us that words can have intent separate to that of the speaker. Through clever personification he gives personality and traits to words, and helps describe the feelings of characters, such as Hans visible hangover that heaved itself to his shoulders and sat there like a bag of wet cement. The words also come to life with descriptive language that shows words were perched on their shoulders, resting on their heads and hanging from their arms, as Liesel and Hans spoke, and, in a different light, the weakness of Liesel s words as they, fell off the side of the bed, emptying onto the floor like powder. Words are also described as having a, human flavour. This makes the audience... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Welfare Of The Welfare State The welfare state in Britain as we know it today did not exist, looking back through the 18th and 19th Centuries many of the social welfare benefits that are available to Britain s today were not even imaginable to the people at that time. Today much of the help that is available to those in the margins of society is seen as an obligation for the state to correct. However in the Elizabethan Era the attitudes towards welfareand the poor were very negative and unsympathetic. In this essay I will be discussing welfare before the classic welfare state, the provisions for poor, the key features of the welfare state and why it was developed. The key features of the welfare state are very linked to the 1942 report on Social Insurance and Allied Services or also known as the Beveridge Report. The key features I have identified of the classic welfare state is the National Health Service (NHS), Social insurance, Housing, Education and Full employment. Asa Briggs a British historian defined the welfare state as a state which ...organised power is deliberately used in order to play of the market in 3 direction; by guaranteeing an individuals a minimum income, narrowing extent of insecurity by enabling people to meet certain social contingencies which lead to family or individual crisis and thirdly by ensuring that all citizens without distinction of status or class are offered the best standards available to a certain agreed range of social services .
