Leading a Toastmasters club using a process oriented approachKumar Kolaganti
Leadership and Management skills are essential for running any organization, big or small, for-profit or not-for-profit. While Leadership skills focus on your soft-skills so you know how to figure out the right thing to do, management skills are more tactical and focus on how to do it right. With just leadership skills, you will figure out the right thing to do. With just management skills, you will learn how to do anything right. Every club officer must have both these type of skills in order to be successful. With both the leadership skills and management skills, you are ready to do the right thing in the right manner.
One of the important management skills is operations management that deals with processes in an organization. To run the club operations, methodically, smoothly and in an efficient manner, it is important to get our “act” (processes) together.
This presentation outlines what is a process and how using processes can potentially benefit a Toastmasters club’s execution of activities.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

To log into the base camp manager dashboard, go to the club options on the main Pathways log in page. Select Base Camp manager .
On the Base Camp Manager Dashboard, select the Pending Requests Tile.
The document, Level 1 Completion, provides information about what happens next. The Level 1 Completion “Status” will change to “Pending Completion Approval,” meaning that a club officer will need to approve the completion (Club President, VP of Education or Secretary approves the completion. You may want to alert them that your level is ready for approval.).
All the member who are requiring level approval will be listed at the left. In the middle column will be the particular level and path for which they are requesting approval.
How many Pathway guides are here. Please raise your hands. Pathways guide curriculum will be listed here when you complete it. This may need to be approved for you to receive credit from TI. We will have to check that.
Each club will need to figure out the process for keeping record of project completion – how are you going to verify the work is completed? Keep records of the agendas? Use the meeting software eazy speak or toast host? Keep copies of evaluations? Some of the responsibility may need to fall on the individual member. How will you verify completion of projects by members of multiple clubs? These are all questions that you will need to address.
How can I find which members are in Pathways & what path they seected?
Log into Pathways, selecting Base Camp Manager as your home club. On the Base Camp manager dashboard, select Member Progress.
n the Individual progress view, five boxes with bar graphs will display – one for each level. First, refresh the page to display the most recent report. Mouse up to the options dropdown in the upper right corner. Select Refresh. You will see the date change at the lower left corner of each level box.
Select the level which you would like to investigate further. You will need to look individually at each level that displays a bar, indicating that members are working in the level. Mouse over the upper right corner of the level box to reveal two options. Select View Detail.
A detailed report will display below the bar chart. The font is very small! The first column at the left side provides a count of the total number of members working in each distinct learning path in this particular level. The next column lists the members’ names. This list is not in alphabetical order; rather, it follows the alphabetical order of the learning paths represented. Two columns over is the path each member is working and an indication of Registered or in progress. Registered only displays in Level 1 for members who selected the path but have not launched a project in the path. In progress means that the member has begun working on the projects. Finally, the last column provides the percentage of the path that is completed. Just remember that a member may easily click through all of the projects to see what is to come, without completing one speech! It’s always best to verify progress with the individual members.
