A Simple Query Interface for Interoperable Learning Repositories

By Bernd Simon, David Massart, Frans van Assche, Stefaan Ternier, Erik Duval, Stefan Brantner, Daniel Olmedilla, Zoltán Miklós In order to achieve interoperability among learning repositories, implementers require a common communication framework for querying. This paper proposes a set of methods referred to as Simple Query Interface (SQI) as a universal interoperability layer for educational networks. The methods proposed can be used by a source for configuring and submitting queries to a target system and retrieving results from it. The SQI interface can be implemented in a synchronous or an asynchronous manner. SQI abstracts from query languages and metadata schemas. SQI has been evaluated by several prototype implementations demonstrating its universal applicability, and is on the way to being standardized in the CEN/ISSS Learning Technologies Workshop. - TUM's IT infrastructure, including its Moodle and Panopto systems, supported the transition and proved effective. Over 35,000 students accessed Moodle and over 27,000 used Panopto.

Opening up Virtual Mobility: a study of skills and competences

The network will define an eportfolio framework, transfer knowledge between initiatives, contribute to eportfolio policies, raise awareness among educators and employers, and develop a sustainable online community portal for sharing resources and practices. This will benefit eportfolio experts through collaboration and research partnerships, practitioners by providing tools and lessons learned, and policymakers with evidence and frameworks to inform policies. The consortium is led by the University of Zagreb and includes partners from France, the UK, Poland, Austria, Denmark, Spain, and the US.
Opening up Virtual Mobility: a study of skills and competences

A Simple Query Interface for Interoperable Learning Repositories
In order to achieve interoperability among learning repositories, implementers require a common communication framework for querying. This paper proposes a set of methods referred to as Simple Query Interface (SQI) as a universal interoperability layer for educational networks. The methods proposed can be used by a source for configuring and submitting queries to a target system and retrieving results from it. The SQI interface can be implemented in a synchronous or an asynchronous manner. SQI abstracts from query languages and metadata schemas. SQI has been evaluated by several prototype implementations demonstrating its universal applicability, and is on the way to being standardized in the CEN/ISSS Learning Technologies Workshop. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
