This paper presents a new protocol, Energy Balance-based Energy Hole Alleviation in Tree Topology (EBEHA-T), to prevent sink-hole formation in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) by managing energy consumption proactively. EBEHA-T is a greedy routing protocol that focuses on balancing energy use during many-to-one traffic, reducing the risk of energy holes that lead to network partitioning and premature node death. Performance evaluations demonstrate that EBEHA-T improves energy efficiency significantly compared to existing protocols, resulting in enhanced network longevity.
