Avoid turning users away: Making inclusive design and content decisions

Archival repositories are places which hold the original records created by people and organizations--paper, audiovisual, and electronic--preserving and providing access the primary sources that form the backbone of historical research. They are also a treasure trove of unique, reliable sources and free media for Wikipedia editors. Moreover, professional archivists often share the same driving passion that motivates so many volunteer editors: the desire to organize valuable information and make it accessible to all.
This presentation will introduce you to the basics of archival records and research (often a somewhat mysterious process to the uninitiated) and lay out the top 5 reasons why partnerships with archival repositories are of mutual benefit to Wikimedians and archivists alike.

Public history of wheat farming
Wheat has been a central crop in human civilization for thousands of years, first being domesticated in the Near East over 8,500 years ago. By 2000 years ago it had spread throughout the Old World and became a staple crop in many ancient Mediterranean civilizations. In North America, the middle colonies became known as the "bread colonies" for their wheat production. Major shifts in wheat production moved to Ohio in the 1840s and the Great Plains in the 1890s. Mechanization, from the Roman vallus to the McCormick reaper and combines, revolutionized wheat harvesting. Today, Washington remains an important wheat producing region.
The lost cause 101
The document summarizes the key points of the Lost Cause interpretation of the American Civil War, which aimed to justify the Confederate cause after the war. The Lost Cause claimed that (1) slavery was not the primary cause of the war, (2) secession was constitutional, and (3) the Confederacy was defeated only due to the Union's overwhelming resources and numbers rather than military or political weaknesses of the Confederacy. It also promoted the ideas of Southern nobility and chivalry and downplayed the harsh reality of slavery. The Lost Cause interpretation became popular in the late 19th century through memorials, art, films and other cultural artifacts that romanticized the Confederacy while ignoring the central role of slavery.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
