ABSTRACT
Microsoft Hololens is the design and concept of
future technology. It is augmented reality, which
means digital data is merged with real world objects.
Microsoft’s employee Alex Kipman created this, he
is working on this pair of glasses from 5 years. It is
the only device that can 3D scan the real world
objects. Its audio is also 3D quality. It is under
development now. Its starting price is 5000$ and it is
only for developers now. This is the best technology
of this time. And also it doesn’t work on pixels it
generates photons.
1.INTRODUCTION
It is known as the pair of mixed reality smart glasses
which is developed and manufactured by
Microsoft.Hololens gained popularity for being one
of the first computers running the Windows Mixed
Reality platform under the Windows 10 operating
system. It can trace its lineage to kinect, an add on for
Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console that was
introduced in 2010. It draws inspiration for our own.
We just have to imagine what we can do. Its mixed
reality brings people, places, and objects from our
physical and digital worlds together. This blended
environment becomes our canvas, where we can
create and enjoy a wide range of experiences.
2.DESIGN
It has multiple cameras stationed inside the headset
apparently, Hololens also handles sound incredibly
well. This is done through unity engine where
developers can pin audio to specific objects then as
people wearing the Hololens walk through a specific
area the sound changes based on the proximity to the
objects, just like it would in real world. The audio is
actually delivered through two small speakers in the
headset not by headphone. This is so we can still hear
the real-World environment around us. This is full
windows 10 integration, so when wearing the headset
we can drag items from a pc desktop and pull them
off to the screen into the air and still control them
with our mouse and inputs are also very well done
voice commands are also so fast. The developers can
register commands. These include more than five
cameras, accelerometers and gyroscopes to sense
where are headers and house positioned at all times.
The Hololens is a head-mounted display unit
connected to an adjustable, cushioned inner
headband, which can tilt Hololens up and down, as
well as forward and backward. To wear the unit, the
user fits the HoloLenson their head, using an
adjustment wheel at the back of the headband to
secure it around the crown, supporting and
distributing the weight of the unit equally for
Uttra et al., JICSCT 2 www.gadlonline.com
comfort, before tilting the visor towards the front of
the eyes.
In the front is much of the sensors and related
hardware, including the cameras and processors. The
visor is tinted;enclosed in the visor piece is a pair of
transparent combiner lenses, in which the projected
images are displayed in the lower half. The Hololens
must be calibrated to the Inter papillary
Distance (IPD), or accustomed vision of the user.
Along the bottom edges of the side, located near the
user's ears, are a pair of small, red 3D audio speakers.
The speakers, competing against typical sound
systems, do not obstruct external sounds, allowing
the user to hear virtual sounds, along with the
environment.Using head-related transfer functions,
the Hololensgenerates binaural audio, which can
simulate spatial effects; meaning the user, virtually,
can perceive and locate a sound, as though it is
coming from a virtual pinpoint or location.
On the top edge are two pairs of buttons: display
brightness buttons above the left ear, and volume
buttons above the right ear.Adjacent buttons are
shaped differently—one concave, one convex—so
that the user can distinguish them by touch.
At the end of the left arm is a power button and row
of five, small individual LED nodes, used to indicate
system status, as well as for power management,
indicating battery level and setting
power/standby mode. A USB 2.0 micro-B receptacle
is located along the bottom edge. A 3.5 mm audio
jack is located along the bottom edge of the right
arm.
3.WORKING MECHANISM
It is augmented reality, means real life objects are
merges with digital data. Microsoft has been working
on it from seven years. First idea of Hololens was
introduced by Alex Kipman (known as brainchild of
Microsoft). He has been working on this pair of
goggles for five years.
Instead of everyone walking into a room made to
reproduce 3D images, Microsoft's goggles show
images only the wearer can see. Everyone else will
just think we're wearing goofy-looking glasses.
The sensors flood the device with terabytes of data
every second so that’s a CPU, GPU and the first
HPU. To create project Hololens images light
particles bounce around millions of times in a light
engine within the device these photons enter the
goggles two lenses where they are ricochet between
layers of blue, green and red glass before they reach
the back of our eye and when we get the light at the
exact angle that is where the magic comes in. Unlike
most screen technologies before it is not pixels but
actual photons that are being generated making the
digital elements extremely lifelike.
Main point of Hololens is that all digitally created
objects can interact with real environment. And its
pixel density on display will be above 1000ppi(pixel
per inch).Another key thing about Hololens is what
Microsoft is trying to accomplish.
The company is not trying to transport us to a
different world, but rather bring the wonders of a
computer directly to the real life. Microsoft is
overlaying images and objects onto our livingrooms.
As a Hololens wearer, we'll still see the real world in
front of us.
Uttra et al., JICSCT 3 www.gadlonline.com
There's a whole bunch of other hardware that's
designed to help the HoloLens effects feel believable.
The device has a plethora of sensors to sense our
movements in a room and it uses this information
along with layers of colored glass to create images
we can interact with or investigate from different
angles. Just walk to the other side of it. The goggles
also have a camera that looks at the room, so the
HoloLens knows where tables, chairs and other
objects are. It then uses that information to project
3D images on top of and even inside them -- place
virtual dynamite on our desk and we might blow a
hole to see what's inside.
4.WHAT CAN HOLOLENS DO?
It can do things like floating videos, or a more
immersive skype session. Mainly it can scan the
environment in 3D, and makes 3D maps of
surroundings for example, Sofa, T.V., Bed etc. It
creates map of objects in semi-actual dimension,
which Dimension, which exists in real life make
makes It's map data merged in same 3D plane where
the real object is. So, if you move your head, digital
details added extra on real objects (like you made a
cat on sofa), will not move with head. In simple way
Cat will know it's position and it'll be still on sofa
even when you leave the room.
It records your hand movements and work according
to how you move your hand and fingers, even
eyeball.
The goggles will track our movements, watch our
gaze and transform what we see by blasting light at
our eyes (it doesn't hurt). Because the device tracks
where we are, we can use hand gestures -- right now
it's only a midair click by raising and lowering our
finger -- to interact with the 3D images. We can walk
around and talk to others without worrying about
bumping into walls. It can create on-the-fly semi
accurate wire mashes of objects that exists in real
life. It interacts with real environment like if we
throw a ball then it will bounce on the table as we
expect.
5.HOW IT LOOKS?
6. ADVANTAGES
 The holographic communication is 100%
the future, no matter it is for VR, AR or on
any capable device.
 The quality of this setup is really
good. Full body, no gaps, good color,
low latency.
7.LIMITATIONS
 We can only control HoloLens with our
gaze and by hovering our fingers on the air
to tap on a cursor it works fine is extremely
intuitive and everyone could get it the first
time but HoloLens needs more sophisticated
that mimic real life movements.
 The biggest limitation is the small viewing
area so all the holograms and the digital
environments are only visible through a
Uttra et al., JICSCT 4 www.gadlonline.com
small square area so if we get close to digital
objects we can’t actually see the entirety of
it, it cuts them off this.
8. CONCLUSION
We discussed about HoloLens introduction, design,
working, looks, applications, advantages and about
its limitations. HoloLens is the only mixed reality
project and it is being sold for only developers and its
starting price is 5000$. It is also called as the future
gadget. It is one of the best project of this time.

And also it doesn’t work on pixels it generates photons. 1.INTRODUCTION It is known as the pair of mixed reality smart glasses which is developed and manufactured by Microsoft.Hololens gained popularity for being one of the first computers running the Windows Mixed Reality platform under the Windows 10 operating system. It can trace its lineage to kinect, an add on for Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console that was introduced in 2010. It draws inspiration for our own. We just have to imagine what we can do. Its mixed reality brings people, places, and objects from our physical and digital worlds together. This blended environment becomes our canvas, where we can create and enjoy a wide range of experiences. 2.DESIGN It has multiple cameras stationed inside the headset apparently, Hololens also handles sound incredibly well. This is done through unity engine where developers can pin audio to specific objects then as people wearing the Hololens walk through a specific area the sound changes based on the proximity to the objects, just like it would in real world. The audio is actually delivered through two small speakers in the headset not by headphone. This is so we can still hear the real-World environment around us. This is full windows 10 integration, so when wearing the headset we can drag items from a pc desktop and pull them off to the screen into the air and still control them with our mouse and inputs are also very well done voice commands are also so fast. The developers can register commands. These include more than five cameras, accelerometers and gyroscopes to sense where are headers and house positioned at all times. The Hololens is a head-mounted display unit connected to an adjustable, cushioned inner headband, which can tilt Hololens up and down, as well as forward and backward. To wear the unit, the user fits the HoloLenson their head, using an adjustment wheel at the back of the headband to secure it around the crown, supporting and distributing the weight of the unit equally for

In the front is much of the sensors and related hardware, including the cameras and processors. The visor is tinted;enclosed in the visor piece is a pair of transparent combiner lenses, in which the projected images are displayed in the lower half. The Hololens must be calibrated to the Inter papillary Distance (IPD), or accustomed vision of the user. Along the bottom edges of the side, located near the user's ears, are a pair of small, red 3D audio speakers. The speakers, competing against typical sound systems, do not obstruct external sounds, allowing the user to hear virtual sounds, along with the environment.Using head-related transfer functions, the Hololensgenerates binaural audio, which can simulate spatial effects; meaning the user, virtually, can perceive and locate a sound, as though it is coming from a virtual pinpoint or location. On the top edge are two pairs of buttons: display brightness buttons above the left ear, and volume buttons above the right ear.Adjacent buttons are shaped differently—one concave, one convex—so that the user can distinguish them by touch. At the end of the left arm is a power button and row of five, small individual LED nodes, used to indicate system status, as well as for power management, indicating battery level and setting power/standby mode. A USB 2.0 micro-B receptacle is located along the bottom edge. A 3.5 mm audio jack is located along the bottom edge of the right arm. 3.WORKING MECHANISM It is augmented reality, means real life objects are merges with digital data. Microsoft has been working on it from seven years. First idea of Hololens was introduced by Alex Kipman (known as brainchild of Microsoft). He has been working on this pair of goggles for five years. Instead of everyone walking into a room made to reproduce 3D images, Microsoft's goggles show images only the wearer can see. Everyone else will just think we're wearing goofy-looking glasses. The sensors flood the device with terabytes of data every second so that’s a CPU, GPU and the first HPU. To create project Hololens images light particles bounce around millions of times in a light engine within the device these photons enter the goggles two lenses where they are ricochet between layers of blue, green and red glass before they reach the back of our eye and when we get the light at the exact angle that is where the magic comes in. Unlike most screen technologies before it is not pixels but actual photons that are being generated making the digital elements extremely lifelike. Main point of Hololens is that all digitally created objects can interact with real environment. And its pixel density on display will be above 1000ppi(pixel per inch).Another key thing about Hololens is what Microsoft is trying to accomplish. The company is not trying to transport us to a different world, but rather bring the wonders of a computer directly to the real life. Microsoft is overlaying images and objects onto our livingrooms. As a Hololens wearer, we'll still see the real world in front of us.
  • 3. Uttra et al., JICSCT 3 www.gadlonline.com There's a whole bunch of other hardware that's designed to help the HoloLens effects feel believable. The device has a plethora of sensors to sense our movements in a room and it uses this information along with layers of colored glass to create images we can interact with or investigate from different angles. Just walk to the other side of it. The goggles also have a camera that looks at the room, so the HoloLens knows where tables, chairs and other objects are. It then uses that information to project 3D images on top of and even inside them -- place virtual dynamite on our desk and we might blow a hole to see what's inside. 4.WHAT CAN HOLOLENS DO? It can do things like floating videos, or a more immersive skype session. Mainly it can scan the environment in 3D, and makes 3D maps of surroundings for example, Sofa, T.V., Bed etc. It creates map of objects in semi-actual dimension, which Dimension, which exists in real life make makes It's map data merged in same 3D plane where the real object is. So, if you move your head, digital details added extra on real objects (like you made a cat on sofa), will not move with head. In simple way Cat will know it's position and it'll be still on sofa even when you leave the room. It records your hand movements and work according to how you move your hand and fingers, even eyeball. The goggles will track our movements, watch our gaze and transform what we see by blasting light at our eyes (it doesn't hurt). Because the device tracks where we are, we can use hand gestures -- right now it's only a midair click by raising and lowering our finger -- to interact with the 3D images. We can walk around and talk to others without worrying about bumping into walls. It can create on-the-fly semi accurate wire mashes of objects that exists in real life. It interacts with real environment like if we throw a ball then it will bounce on the table as we expect. 5.HOW IT LOOKS? 6. ADVANTAGES  The holographic communication is 100% the future, no matter it is for VR, AR or on any capable device.  The quality of this setup is really good. Full body, no gaps, good color, low latency. 7.LIMITATIONS  We can only control HoloLens with our gaze and by hovering our fingers on the air to tap on a cursor it works fine is extremely intuitive and everyone could get it the first time but HoloLens needs more sophisticated that mimic real life movements.  The biggest limitation is the small viewing area so all the holograms and the digital environments are only visible through a
  • 4. Uttra et al., JICSCT 4 www.gadlonline.com small square area so if we get close to digital objects we can’t actually see the entirety of it, it cuts them off this. 8. CONCLUSION We discussed about HoloLens introduction, design, working, looks, applications, advantages and about its limitations. HoloLens is the only mixed reality project and it is being sold for only developers and its starting price is 5000$. It is also called as the future gadget. It is one of the best project of this time. 9.REFERENCE [1]. Pandher, Gurmeet Singh (March 2, 2016). "Microsoft HoloLens Preorders: Price, Specs Of The Augmented Reality Headset". The Bitbag. [2].
