This document discusses several global environmental conferences and organizations. It summarizes the Stockholm Conference in 1972, where representatives from over 100 countries established the United Nations Environment Programme and agreed upon 26 principles in the Stockholm Declaration addressing issues such as pollution, conservation, and the relationship between environment and development. It also discusses the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro, where the Rio Declaration, Agenda 21, and a statement on forests were adopted. Finally, it outlines the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, formed in 1988, which has produced assessment reports on climate change and the risks and impacts of human-induced warming.

Environmental degradation is a process through which the natural environment is compromised in some way, reducing biological diversity and the general health of the environment. This process can be entirely natural in origin, or it can be accelerated or caused by human activities. Many international organizations recognize environmental degradation as one of the major threats facing the planet, since humans have only been given one Earth to work with, and if the environment becomes irreparably compromised, it could mean the end of human existence.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Natural resources must be safeguarded.
3. The earth’s capacity to produce renewable resource must be maintained.
4. Wildlife must be safeguarded.
5. Non-renewable resources must be shared and not exhausted.
6. Pollution must no exceed the env. Capacity to clean itself.
7. Damaging oceanic pollution must be prevented.
8. Development is needed to improve env.
9. Developing countries therefore need assistance.
10. Developing countries need reasonable prices for exports to carry out environmental.
11. Env. Policy must not be hamper development.
12. Developing countries need money to develop env. Safeguarded.
13. Integrated development planning is needed.

15. Human settlements must be planned to eliminate environmental problems.
16. Gov. Should plan their own appropriate population policies.
17. National institution s must plan development of states natural resources.
18. Science and technology must be used to improve the environment.
19. Environmental education is essential.
20. Environmental research must be promoted particularly in developing countries.
21. States may exploit their resources as they wish but must not endanger others.
22. Compensation is due to states thus endangered.
23. Each nation must establish its own standards.

of future generation.
c. Intra-generational solidarity-consideration of the needs
of poor.

forest principles
8. The summit’s message:
• Nothing less than a transformation of our attitudes and
behaviour would bring about the necessary changes it.
• the message reflected the complexity of the problems
focusing us:
a. That poverty.
b. As well as excessive consumption by affluent
population place stress on the env.
•All economic decisions fully took account any environmental impact.
•The message has produced results, making eco-efficiently a guiding principle
for business and governments like.

•Water
•Extreme Weather
The Paris agreement aims- bellow 2°c
compared to pre- industrial levels and
pursue efforts to limit the increase even
further, to 1.5°c.
WAT TO FORWARD & STEP TO 1.5°C :
•Energy generation:
Change the pattern of energy
generation ( use solar). (out
come carbon =absorbed carbon.
•Land use:
Cropping system change.
•Cities:
Change infrastructure of
cities(use metro).
•Industry:
Global emissions of CO2 need
to decline by 45% from
2010level by 2030.
Coal is expected to reduce to
close to zero.
N.B: There is a crucial role for all
the states.
12. Conclusion:
For humans to live sustainably, the
earth’s natural resource must be used at a
rate at which they can be replenished(and
by limiting global warming).
