increasing steadily. The number of female offenders entering the American justice
system is growing at a rate faster than males. Statistics from the United States in 2010
show the female offender population to be increasing by 2.7% each year, compared to

The ancient site of Eleusis was in the western end of the Thraission plains and had
two passes that had access to Athens through the mountains (Cosmopoulos 2015, 28).
The Eleusinian Mysteries were based at Eleusis for more than two thousand years
(Mylonas, 226). Although, Eleusis was inhabited in the Early Bronze Age, it is not
until the Archaic Period that the Telesterion underwent changes in size, style, and
orientation. The purpose of the change during this period was to expand the terrace
for a new temple to Demeter (Cosmopoulos 2015 139). This Telesterion was
rectangular and far more spacious, but only lasted until the Persian invasion in 480
BC (140). From the Archaic Period to the Classical Period, there is not only
reorganization, but rebuilding. A program by Kimon was launched after the
destruction by the Persians, which basically enlarged the area of the sanctuary. The
Telesterion was never finished as Kimon was ostracized. It is not until Koroibos,
Metagenes, and Xenokles that another Telesterion was designed. In addition, the
Telesterion s new shape allowed for the accommodation of more people due to the
platform steps built on all four sides of the interior (145). At the end of the

Indian Boarding schools were the best way to convert people and their beliefs that
potentially disrupted the way of the manifest destiny. These schools would take
young Indian children and assimilate them to the Anglo American way of life. The
highest priority of these Indian schools were to teach the Indian youth reading and
writing the Mathematics, English language, history, science, and the arts hopefully
encouraging the self directing power of thought. Religious educationand training in
Christianity was taught. Political structure, institutions, and principles of a

The long braids worn by Indian boys were cut off. The children were made to wear
standard uniforms. The children were given new white names, including surnames, as
it was felt this would help when they inherited property. Traditional Native foods
were abandoned, forcing students to acquire the food rites of white society, including

the early US colonial rule fundamentally shaped the character of this definition. At the
conclusion of the Spanish American War, Puerto Rico became a possession of the

This US expectation for what Puerto Rico would become after 1898 first manifested
itself in the Foraker Act (1900 1917) and later the Jones Act (1917 1950). Although
the Jones Act would extend US citizenship to the Puerto Ricans whom desired it, it
was merely a form of citizenship without rights (58). The Puerto Rican Senate and
House of Representatives were severely limited by President s line item veto and the
fact that they still remained under the absolute jurisdiction of the Constitution. Such
limitations against the Puerto Rican people seemed very reasonable to the US
colonizers given the fact that they were faced with the responsibility of preparing a
politically immature people to someday achieve self government.
