• The World Bank uses a wealth indicator to
define poverty.
• It has set a poverty line of 1.90 USD or 59.53
THB per person a day.
• Those receiving less than that are said to be
living in extreme poverty.

poverty rate in Thailand increased
from 7.2% to 9.8%, and the
absolute number of people living in
poverty rose from 4.85 million to
more than 6.7 million.
The increase in poverty in 2018 was
widespread - occurring in all
regions and in 61 out of 77
provinces.
