J Crew Case Summary
Texas pacific Group (TPG) should sell J. Crew and recover its original investment. TPG should take
into account its time, money, and resources spent in this leveraged buyout. Private equity firms
typically buy low and sell high, are known for long term investments, and have a majority stake in an
organization. J. Crew was doing well up to 1998, due to TPG s restructuring of J. Crew, which
included utilizing its resources to oversee turnarounds. According to the BCG Growth Share Matrix, J.
Crew is located in the low market share and high growth rate category. This means that J. Crew could
become part of the high market share category with restructuring of the company. However, the
company started to take a downturn and TPG might have misread ... Show more content on

Crew continued to underperform in back to school sales and holiday sales, which led to a net loss in
2002. In addition, J. Crew was in risk of bankruptcy due to the amount of debt owed in cash. This
would lead to giving up economic and voting interests. TPG underestimated the amount of
restructuring needed to turn around the company, which is similar to one of its other investments,
Favorite Brands. This investment cost TPG $100 million when it went bankrupt, which is why TPG
should sell J. Crew. Learning from past mistakes is crucial and J. Crew seems to be heading in the
same direction. Turning around the company is a possibility, but when analyzing J. crew s cash flow it
is unlikely the company will be able to cover its debt. Selling J. Crew is the best choice to avoid the
risk of losing all of its investment and knowing when to cut your losses is important. Overall, the
industry itself is volatile and the investment was too great of a risk. TPG piled financial risk on top of
operating risk. Top line growth was still an issue and the industry makes it hard to

General Electric Case Analysis
Introduction
General Electric (GE) is one of the most successful companies in the world and a large diversified
multinational conglomerate. GE is broken into 9 business sectors, Global and Growth Operations, GE
Capital, Healthcare, Oil Gas, Power Water, Energy Management, Appliances Lighting, Aviation and
Transportation. Once regarded as the most valuable company in the world in terms of market
capitalization, GE s performance has recently started to decline.
We recommend that GE divest underperforming units and focus on its core competencies and
restructure the management team.
Background
GE is recognized as one of the oldest and most successful companies in history. The key to its success
had been to combine massive size with constant adaptation. Over the decades, GE had adapted both its
business portfolio and its management systems to the demands and opportunities of a changing world
(Grant, 2016). GE was not only a big successful company but, for many other diversified companies,
it was also a model of management from its inception and through the 20th century. At the end of the
20th Century, GE had a legendary CEO, Jack Welch, who transformed the company s portfolio from a
manufacturing business to financial services. At the time of his retirement, GE Capital accounted for
nearly half of GE s revenue and the bulk of its assets (Grant, 2016).
Welch had been the heart of the most widespread and strategic disruption and transformation in GE s
history. He

World Bank and Poverty Essay
Executive Summary
This research paper is focused on the role World Bank in Poverty Reduction, as the primary role of the
World Bank is to enable development and progress in the backward countries and regions of this
world. This paper explains the brief history of the World Bank, and World Bank s five institutions. It
also investigates how the World Bank is continually trying to reduce poverty by lending billions of
dollars to poor countries .This paper gives some of the facts of the under developed countries and the

areas of focus for the bank.
The Role of the World Bank in Poverty Reduction
The world is place which has both the rich and the poor masses. There are around 2.6 billion people in
this world which make less than $1 a day. The repercussions of this extremity cause around 33000
children to die every day from hunger and diseases which could have been easily avoided otherwise.
Statistics have shown that on an average at least one woman dies every minute during child birth.
Poverty causes around 100 million children to not seek education. This involves a majority of girl
children who are forced to drop out from schools since their families can t afford to send them to
school and provide education. Poverty causes a lot of derivatives or side effects in the life of the poor
people. Due to lack of inadequate financing these people are left without proper health care,
education, jobs and cause them to be vulnerable to corruption, violence and mental pressure leading to
high number of suicide rates. The poor governance and waste of public resources due to inadequate
management further worsens the situation. Figure1 below depicts the distribution of the percentage of
people living under $1 per day. It s quite evident that the

Reasons for Mergers Acquisitions
The following are the other important reasons for mergers or amalgamations: 1. Economies of scale.
An amalgamation company will have more reasons at its command that the individual companies.
This will help in increasing the scale of operations and the economies of large scale will be available.
These economies will occur because of more intensive utilization of production facilities, distribution
network, research and development facilities, etc. these economies will be available in horizontal
mergers were scope of more intensive use of resources is greater. 2. Operating economies. A number
of operating economies will be availed with the merger of two or more companies. Duplicating
facilities in accounting, purchasing, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The collective finances of merged companies will be more and their utilization may be better than in
the separate concerns. It may happen that one of the merging companies has short gestation period
while the other has the longer gestation period. The profits of the company with short gestation period
will be utilized to finance the other company. When the company with the longer gestation period
starts eating profits then it will improve financial position as a whole. 10. Economic necessity: It may
force the merger of some units. If there are two sick units, government may force their merger to
improve their financial position and over all working .a sick unit may be required to merge with the
healthy unit to insure better utilization of resources, improve and better management. Rehabilitation of
sick units is asocial necessity because their closure may result in UN employment etc. 11. Gaining
Cost Efficiency When two companies come together by merger or acquisition, the joint company
benefits in terms of cost efficiency. A merger or acquisition is able to create economies of scale which
in turn generates cost efficiency. As the two firms form a new and bigger company, the production is
done on a much larger scale and when the output production increases, there are strong chances that
the cost of production per unit of output gets reduced. 12. An increase in market share is one of the
plausible benefits of mergers and

Emily Dickinson Nobody
I m a Nobody! Who are you? By Emily Dickinson Emily Dickinson s poem I m a Nobody! Who are
you? states that she believes being a nobody and unrecognized by a large population is often better
than being a somebody. To the poet anonymity is preferable to fame and fortune. Dickinson implies
that being a nobody has advantages, she would rather blend in with the crowd than stand out and be
judged or criticized. The poet insinuates that the way most of us feel in our society and what our role
is in it is easier to live in and control as long as we don t stand out and have respectable privacy. The
main theme of this poem is self identity, in the Bog mentioned all the members who are included in it

Dickinson starts off her poem in a childlike and informal style where she directly calls out her
audience Who are you? . In the first stanza the author begins with a claim in which she states that she
is a nobody; being a nobody is preferable to being a somebody. The poet begins this poems by calling
out her audience with the purpose of creating a relationship with them and relating to those who feel
like a minority in the society the reside in; she wants them to know that occasionally being a minority
is not a bad thing. Dickinson gives off the impression that being a nobody is decent, private, and
selfless without the need of being recognized by those around us. In her eyes, somebody s are those
who are loud, egotistical, and crave worships from their community. The tone of this poem is mocking,
the poet mocks those somebody s with bloated egos, who believe they are above others and often need

The Movie Apocalypse Now Is Directed By Francis Ford Coppola
The movie Apocalypse Now is directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1985. The genre is drama along
with a theme of good vs. evil, and man vs. self. The movie is based on a burned out soldier during the
Vietnam war, who has been ordered to kill another U.S Soldier who has become a renegade and
insane. While, without the sound effects in the first five minutes, the shot can set the tone of the
movie. However, two types of sound effects used in the first five minutes make the tone of this movie.
The first sounds being asynchronous sound effects. The opening of the movie starts out with a black
screen and silence. Next comes a fade in shot of a line of palm trees, here is the first asynchronous
sound effect, the use of helicopter sounds. The synchronous sound effect is used as a helicopter flies in
an extreme close up shot. Next shot is that of yellow smoke coming up from the bottom of the screen.
The second sound effect is music. As the yellow smoke rises up from the bottom of the screen the
song The end , by the Doors starts to play. The song starts out slow just like the smoke rolling up from
the bottom. Then as the song intensives so does the smoke. At a minute in to the movie the sound of
helicopters is used, while the music continues to play. As the smoke continues to roll in front of the
palm trees, there is the landing gear of a helicopter. The palm trees become fully engulfed with fire,
like a bomb being dropped on them. The song lyrics come in starting with the

Violence In Chris Crutchers Whale Talk
Chris Crutchers book Whale Talk is a book about T.J. and the swim team but there are bigger things
going on that all revolve around violence. Violence is a huge key in this book because of Heidi, T.J. s
dads death, and the way Rich Marshall treats his family. Chris Crutchers purpose for writing Whale
Talk was to show violence and how it affects people by using diction, irony, and a modern connection.
Whale Talk uses a lot of swear words which is a form of diction. He uses swear words to emphasize
parts where things are intense for the characters. GET THESE GODD*** F*** N***** KIDS OUT

Totalitarian Governments In George Orwell s Down With Big...
Down With Big Brother
A totalitarian government depends on subservience because its citizens are completely controlled of
mind and body. History is constantly revised and edited to keep its citizens ignorant, and simple truths
are easily ignored by the populace if told to do so. Constant war is waged by totalitarian governments
to have a reason to use up its resources and keep its citizens in a suppressed state. The citizens of
totalitarian governments are under constant monitoring, even by their own family members. The
totalitarian state is dependent on all of these factors, and because of that, no freedoms can be given.
Orwell s book 1984 serves as an insight and warning for generations to come, as once a totalitarian
government is established,

The Effects Of Video Advertisements On Society Essay
Introduction
Video advertisements are quick and momentary but their influence is pervasive and prolonged. The
power of video advertisements shape norms and common societal expectations on how a person
should look and behave. Overtime these gender roles (societal expectations associated with men and
women) and behaviors become implicit thus implying normal (or in some instances ideal) men and
women should exhibit these qualities and characteristics. Subconsciously, video advertisements
impact a person s perception of what it means and what it takes to be a man or woman. The objective
of this paper is to observe secondary socialization, ...learning behaviors and attitudes associated with
specific situations and roles... , in YouTube video advertisements by comparing recurring patterns,
symbols, statuses, and roles directed to men and women (Lecture Notes Nalkur 7). In addition, this
paper seeks to explain how YouTube video advertisements act as socializing agents by portraying
arguably exaggerated yet stereotypical traits of men and women that influence watchers perceptions
and beliefs about their own gender identity and that of others.
Methods
The approach of this study was to obtain a total of eight YouTube video advertisements. Four of which
focus on women/women s products and the other four video advertisements focus on men/men s
products. The YouTube video advertisements were obtained randomly by watching the YouTube
channels I normally visit. All video ads were obtained

What You Pawn I Will Redeem Essay
What You Pawn I Will Redeem by Sherman Alexie is a story that engages the issues of alcoholism and
homelessness from a personal indigenous perspective. Western cultures portrayal of alcoholism,
especially among indigenous communities, is a legacy of North America s colonialist history. Various
untruths about alcoholism have remained pervasive and though it does indeed remain a problem in
many indigenous communities the attempts to explain its pervasiveness have allowed racist sentiments
to take root. Outside groups attempts to provide aid and support to indigenous people struggling with
homelessness have helped but only offer a temporary fix to the damage dealt. Alexie uses the
experiences of his own life to provide the character of Jackson ... Show more content on

We know this due to some of the dates that Jackson, the protagonist, uses; pinning his grandmother s
death to nineteen seventy two and that she died fifty years ago (Alexie). Though this results in the year
according to Jackson being 2022 any discrepancy given could be the result of Jackson s unreliability
as a narrator. Knowing this we can understand the historical context properly and know how to apply
this understanding properly. The personal history of the Author, Sherman Alexie is incredibly
important to gaining deeper understanding of Jackson. Alexie during university changed his major
from medicine to American Studies after succumbing to fainting spells in anatomy class and after
graduating and beginning writing he had developed a drinking problem by the age of twenty three,
upon learning that The Business of Fancydancing was to be published, he immediately gave up
alcohol. ( Sherman Alexie ). During the beginning of the story Jackson gives a brief biography of
himself, describing himself moving to Seattle twenty three years ago for college, flunked out after two
semesters, worked various blue and bluer collar jobs ... and then went crazy. (Alexie). This shows that
Jackson acts as something of an author avatar for Alexie, acting out a potential future where Alexie
flunked out of secondary education and his drinking problem remained. In addition both Alexie and
Jackson are from Spokane and share the same culture and

Diversity Reflection Analysis
Over the course of the semester, I had the privilege of spending my Monday afternoons with children
at Discovery Elementary School in St. Cloud. I assisted in looking after the kids during their after
school program, Kidstop, and my responsibilities ranged from consoling teary eyes to assisting with
the reading of a girl attending Spanish immersion school. I genuinely enjoyed cultivating relationships
with curious kids from numerous diverse backgrounds. Throughout my volunteering experience, I
utilized teaching styles and knowledge gained in Education 111 to include diverse learners, create a
safe learning environment for everyone, and communicate effectively with students.
The first standard effective procedure (SEP) I utilized during my volunteering at Discovery was
accommodating diverse learners (SEP 3). This SEP requires educators to recognize the diversity in
their classroom and effectively address and include their multiple groups. The sub SEP I used is 3.4H,
which states that educators must understand diversity and actively provide connections into the
curriculum. To me, this SEP is important because it centers around refusing to be colorblind and
ignoring the various backgrounds in a classroom. Growing up in Sartell, this SEP vastly improved my
ability to recognize and embrace diversity. Throughout my own education, I was exposed to some
economic diversity, but I met few people with a race or ethnicity significantly different than my own.
At Discovery, I was

Change, continuity and gender roles in Vietnam In detail, discuss how the gender roles of women and
men in Vietnam have changed and continued over time and the causes of these changes. In addition
outline how these changing gender roles have affected the status of both men and women in Vietnam.
Vietnam is a country where gender roles are undergoing vast changes, especially the women s status in

Despite changes towards gender roles, women are traditionally subservient to men and they are taught
that they have to obey three men in their life; the father, their husband and then their oldest son. After
Doi Moi was created, opportunities between both sexes were not shared equally. However, the new
opportunities available to women lead to conflict with traditional roles. Yet men still hold onto the
idea that they are superior to women and that the women s role is to serve . Now days, a variety of
Vietnamese women have started working in full time positions outside the family, working the same
pay as the man and achieving equally, but at home they are still expected not to make certain decisions
and continue their traditional roles. Most women are slowly dominating the male s tradition in the
household. This means most of both men and women in Vietnam now share the same opportunities
and duties at the housework, not following the traditions as much

Reliability And Accuracy Of Polls
This essay is looking in depth at the reliability and accuracy of polls in the media.
Polls in the media
Abstract
The aim of this analytical essay was to investigate the reliability and accuracy of polls in the media.
The report includes both the strengths and weakness of the three selected polls, two of which were
conducted over the internet and the remaining over the telephone. This investigation is aimed to look
in depth at the methods of survey and the variables within it that may or may not have sufficiently
controlled or not. After the research that had been done, it was evident that there were many faults in
the survey system.
Introduction
Polls are a casting of votes that are supplied to a targeted audience, these audiences range from 18 to
50 years although this can vary depending on the subject of the questionnaire. A poll is a specific
question supplied to the public in order to gain an average opinion on the matter. The participants can
then choose one of the multiple answers that are predefined. A survey is similar to a poll in some ways
such as the series of questions provided to civilians to answer, the only discrepancy between the two is
that there is a wider range of question types.
There many different types of polls such as a push poll, opinion poll, benchmark poll, brushfire poll
entrance polls and exit polls. A push is a seemingly unbiased survey that is conducted over the
telephone by supporters of a specific political candidate. They then try to

Chronic Myeloid Leukemia
Regarding our recent inquiry as to the viability of an Abl Bcr inhibitor and the marketability thereof, it
is of prudent management to discern the separation between our drug candidate and those drugs
currently existing in the market, and evaluating the ease of development as well as long term payoffs
of said inhibitor. First, however, an introduction to chronic myeloid leukemia, its symptoms and
diagnoses, as well as current treatments, is in order. In better understanding the disease, we can more
properly evaluate our proposed treatment.
Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), as with all leukemia, is a cancer of the blood cells, in which

If the patient is required to take more doses with CSU 001, but to only pay the same relative amount,
then each of those doses would have to individually cost less than Gleevec. Thus, if the individual cost
to the patient is less, it would in turn lead us to require that the individual cost of development per
dose be less than Gleevec. If this can be achieved, and the cost of development per dose of CSU 001 is
less than Gleevec in proportion to the number of doses taken, then there should be no discrepancy
between development and marketing via the dosage required.
CSU 001 will be priced at approximately $25,000 per year. Requiring a budget of $150 million to

Constructive Eviction Claim
Plaintiffs Ignore the Plain Language of Section 2 603(b) In an attempt to justify impermissibly
combining an anticipatory repudiation claim and a constructive eviction claim two theories of relief
that require different elements to be proved into a single count, Plaintiffs rely on stale case law that is
at least sixty five years old. Although they acknowledge that section 2 603(b) requires a separate cause
of action to be alleged in a different count, they offer no justification for ignoring the provision s

Plaintiffs Waived their Constructive Eviction Claim In a constructive eviction claim, the tenant has the
burden of showing that the premises was abandoned within a reasonable time. Dell Armi v. Johnston,
172 Ill. App. 3d 144, 149 (1st Dist. 1980). Here, it is undisputed that Plaintiffs (a) continued to live in
the premises for fifteen months after first complaining about the condition of the property, and (b)
renewed the lease term. Even if Nenn s status as a single mother warranted additional time to locate a
new residence, it surely does not excuse waiting more than a year to vacate the premises and renewing
the lease term. Plaintiffs argument that any waiver of a prior alleged breach did not result in waiver of
their constructive eviction claim for each subsequent breach also falls short. As Plaintiffs recognize,
the lease obligated Defendants to make repairs within 60 days of receiving notice. See Apartment
Lease, ¶¶ 6.B, G.D, and 14.B. Pursuant to Plaintiffs allegations, in early January 2014, Plaintiffs
informed Defendants of conditions of alleged disrepair in the premises. (3rd Am. Compl. ¶¶ 38 39.) As
a result, Plaintiffs had until early March 2014 to make the necessary repairs. Instead of vacating the
premises within a reasonable time of that date, Plaintiffs renewed the lease term and remained in the
premsespremises for an additional seven months. Thereafter, Plaintiffs did not notify Defendants of
any other conditions of disrepair until August 23, 2014, when they allegedly advised Defendants of a
mold issue. Plaintiffs then vacated the premises on October 3, 2014, which was only 41 days later.

The Ethics Of Warfare And Ethics
Warfare and Ethics
Many had question whether there is any ethical decisions when discussion about warfare. Are war
ethical or not? Does war bring any resolution to the conflicts or it just bring more conflicts between
nations and states? Have history of warfare demonstrate whether or not wars have ever resolve the
initial purpose of the war?
War ethics only defines whether the purpose of any war is right in order to initiate any conflict among
nations. But history has proven that humans have always uses wars as a mean of resolving political,
structural, religious concerns among each other. So whether or not war decisions involve ethics let
assume it does but it cannot be well explain because as human being we all believe that war only
cause hard in the first place, leaving out all the possibility that war actual resolve conflicts and create
peace. Moreover, the fact that many innocent individuals are often the victims of warfare also draw a
line of whether ethics is apply symbolically when deciding to declare a war to another nation or state.
The pacifism idea that war is always wrong and that war should never be the answer to solving
problem among nation often close the opportunities to understand history of conflict among nations
and state. Pacifism believe that violence is unjustifiable, but what about terrorism? Can terrorism be

How Did The Enlightenment Philosophers Impact On Society
Philosopher s Impact During the late 17th and 18th century in Europe, bright thinkers met in French
salons to discuss ideas that influenced their society. Four influential philosophers, Voltaire, John
Locke, Adam Smith, and Mary Wollstonecraft, made an impact on major societal issues during the
enlightenment period. During this period, the philosophers were people who offered views or theories
on serious questions. The Enlightenment philosopher s had an impact on religion, the government, the
economy, and women s rights. All the four leaders carry the same thought process that the people
should have the freedom to make their own choices. One of the philosophers, Voltaire, was a strong
believer of religious freedom in the 1700 s. He states, If one religion only were allowed in England,
the government would very possibly become orbitrary... but as there are such a multitude, they all live
happy and in peace. The prolific writer was convinced that people s lives would be much easier and

they follow the rules they will be protected. Not only is the government supposed to preserve our
rights, but the citizens have to be obedient under their regulations too. Moreover, the philosophers
main idea was to give people human rights that gave them freedom to make their own decisions.

The elevated levels of cortisol that occur as a result of PPID are believed to contribute to the
insensitivity of stimulation and the resistance of laminitis. When the cortisol is secreted by the
pituitary gland it interferes with the lamellar perfusing, causing a vasoconstrictive response in the
equine digital arteries to the catecholamines. Also a cortisol excess results in protein catabolism in the
skin, connective tissue, bone and skeletal muscle, impaired wound healing, muscle atrophy derived
data are pointing to the fact that inflammation leads a pivotal role in laminitis (Johnson). Some experts
also believe that stress can lead to a horse becoming laminitic because of the increased cortisol
secretion that occurs due to stress. Since Laminitis is so incredibly painful for the horses and ponies
affected it causes them to experience extreme stress, which in turn causes a dramatic spike in cortisol

Observation Of A Coffee Shop In A High School Community
Coffee shops. Coffee shops are popular with good reason. They play an important role in society,
providing the daily dose of caffeine to many. Interestingly, there is a grander role of coffee shops than
simply coffee. While each coffee shop may have a unique touch, coffee shops, they overall provide a
place for people to go individually or in a group, to either work or socialise, or both. High School
students are a prime example of a community that could make good use of the environment coffee
shops provide. A High School community could provide a different type of customers to coffee shops,
not always buying drinks from the establishment, while friends will. Despite most High School
students not being a part of society that earns steady cash flow, they still can show to provide
important consumerism. Focusing on Oakmont High School students, I make use of participant
observation as a means to understand the role coffee shops play in a community of High School
students.
Oakmont High School students have a growing coffee shop culture with the nearby coffee
establishments, as students desire the ambiance that coffee shops provide, differing from their school
environment while still providing a setting to both work on assignments or hold conversations with
their friends.

Information from the outside world comes through our senses. The information is then interpreted,
and this interpretation gives meaning to what is sensed. For example, when you hear your alarm clock,
the actual sound you hear is the sensation. How you construe the meaning of the alarm is your
interpretation. If it is 7 a.m. on a weekday, you would probably interpret the alarm as a signal to get
moving and begin the day. However, the same alarm may have a different meaning on a holiday. You
might perceive yourself as an absurd for setting the alarm, or you might snicker at the alarm and roll
over. In both instances, the sensation (the ring) was the same, but your interpretation changed because
of other factors.

Describe The American River Basin
Study Area Description
The American River is a prime example of a multiple use, water resource system. It is the second
biggest tributary to the Sacramento River, a basic part of the San Francisco Inlet/Sacramento San
Joaquin Delta framework Its basin covers 2,163 mi2 of the western slope of the central Sierra Nevada
(fig. 1) east of Sacramento, California. This complicated system consists of three major parts the
North and Middle Forks, the South Fork, and the Lower American River downstream from Folsom
Lake (fig. 1). These major forks and Folsom Lake represent a natural and modified system of streams
and impoundments designed to meet the recreational and water supply needs of many Californians.
The American River basin is generally mountainous except for the small valley area on the west end
between the Sacramento River and Folsom Lake. Altitudes range from about 5 ft near the confluence
with the Sacramento River to 10,380 ft at Round Top Mountain, which overlooks the Silver Fork
American River in the southeast corner of the basin. Basin characteristics for each sub watershed of
the river upstream from Folsom Lake are shown in Table 1. The drainage density and basin order,

Summers are typically very warm and dry; winters are cool and wet. The influence of the Pacific
Ocean is felt during the winter as strong flows of marine air move over the area, bringing heavy

Race in Five Film Versions of Shakespeare s Othello Essay...
William Shakespeare s Othello is only moderately interested in questions of race and racism. For
Shakespeare, Othello s blackness was mainly a plot device. Though the bard did demonstrate concerns
about racial and religious prejudice, in Othello and The Merchant of Venice, his interest in the tragedy
of the Moor was principally psychological. For Shakespeare and his contemporary audience, Othello
was about jealousy, hatred, and vindictiveness.
The play has aged well, as have all Shakespeare s plays, but not, perhaps, in the ways Shakespeare s
contemporaries would have predicted. In Shakespeare s time, it would have been acceptable for
Othello to kill his wife, had she truly been unfaithful. What made Othello a tragic criminal to ... Show

Douglas Brode states, Wells was fully aware that Shakespeare had been a pre Freudian psychologist
(154). Brode adds that, in the early 1950s when the psychological film was at its peak, Othello served
Welles interest in Freudian psychology (154 155).
According to Michael MacLiammoir, who plays Iago to Welles lead, Welles believed Iago was
impotent and a closet homosexual who married Emilia, played by Faye Compton, as his cover so he
could pass for heterosexual. In his published diary of the making of the film, Put Money in Thy Purse,
MacLiammoir goes on to say that Welles Iago has a hero s crush on Othello, and becomes upset and
jealous as a hurt lover when Othello gives a promotion to Cassio, played by Michael Laurence, instead
of him. To add insult to injury, Othello is rumored to have slept with a frustrated Emilia. In Welles
version, both the director and Iago buy this motive. When Iago sees Othello and Cassio, played by
Derek Jacobi, joined together as brothers, it is too much for Iago. According to Brode, Welles was
adamant that MacLiammoir, appear, with the help of makeup and performance, to be castrated (155).
Welles shot Othello on location in North Africa and Europe, and his use of camera angles and the
outdoor scenery is striking, as Jack F. Forgens notes:
Shapes on the screen are less and less easily recognizable: compositions are tense, full of diagonals
and faces are obscured, crossed with shadows, or

and communication engineering, I thought I had achieved the education goal of my life. Soon I
entered the work place as a junior scientist in a privately held electronics materials research company
and I realized that management degree was the key to rise through ranks in a company. I started
preparation for entrance exams, left the job, went back to school and earned an MBA with Finance as
major. The management degree complemented my technical mindset and gave me a whole new
perspective to the business and the work. After a couple of years in Finance and accounting job, I got
big break at Oracle consulting as a software consultant. I spent next many years focusing on learning
application technology, understanding business processes, solving business problems, and travelling
the world. Currently I manage business intelligence applications portfolio at one of the largest retailer

What Is Evil In Dante s Inferno
In the Inferno, Canto XXVII, Dante comes across the Sowers of Scandal and Schism while on his
journey through hell. Dante, the poet, reveals that schism and scandal cause division within family and
community. The sinners must walk in an endless cycle of punishment. Their bodies are cut up by the
sword of a devil, only to heal and come back to be sliced again. These sinners are aware of certain
things going on in the world, but they can only contact the living through Dante the pilgrim. There
idea of helping the living reveals their inability to recognize their sins and why they are in hell.
Through poetic imagery and narration, Dante uses a comparison to the battle of Puglia, the mutilation
of the bodies, and the encounter with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bertran de Born s head has been severed from his body, and walks around holding his head by the
hair, swinging it just like a lantern. By advising a son to rebel against his father, he caused an unethical
divide within family and political leaders. The head, the father, is now separate from the body, the son.
Now Bertran must suffer the pains of division he has caused. Dante says of his own self he made
himself a light and they were two in one, and one in two. The contrapasso is so clear, that Bertran
himself is his own light, realizing his own sin. He is aware that he has made himself into his own

represents the whole being split by the schism into parts. Together the parts are still Bertran, just as
Henry III is family to Henry II in the same nation, but they are at the same time two separate parts
because they have turned against one another. The sight of Bertran s severed head is unnatural, just as
a son turning against his own father is an abomination against family. The suffering of Bertran reflects

The Antagonistic View of Sexuality in Wiseblood
In the novel Wiseblood, by Flannery O Connor, one finds an unpleasant, almost antagonistic view of
sexuality. The author seems to regard sex as an evil, and harps on this theme throughout the novel.
Each sexual incident which occurs in the novel is tainted with grotesquem. Different levels of the
darker side of sexuality are exposed, from perversion to flagrant displays of nudity. It serves to give
the novel a bit of a moralistic overtone.
The Carnival Episode illustrated Hazel s first experience with sexuality. The author depicts an incident

He feels ashamed for having gone inside the tent, and punishes himself. Here, it is evident that the

This moral tone is reinforced by the behavior of his parents during the episode. Whilst inside the tent,
Hazel hears his father remark appreciatively about the nude body: Had one of themther built into ever
casket, be a heap ready to go sooner. After returning home, Hazel s mother realizes that her son has
experienced something that he should not have, and confronts him about it. Though he does not admit
what he has done, he proceeds to punish himself. It is inferred that Hazel respects his mother s attitude
toward the matter. O Connor seems to propose that Hazel must do penance for what he has done, or,
on a larger scale, for witnessing vulgar displays of sexuality.
Perversion reaches its height when O Connor introduces the reader to Enoch Emery. During Enoch s
various dealings with women, one witnesses vulgarity in all its forms. The events surrounding the first
of these incidents is tinged with a bit of mystery. O Connor paints the portrait of a Peeping Tom, an

Prenatal And Early Postnatal Periods

Season of Birth (SOB) is influenced during prenatal and early postnatal periods and is thought to

The 1920 s are also known as the Roaring 20 s . It was the first modern decade experienced by this
country, as America flourished after WW I. The average number of hours worked per week dropped
from 60 hours to 48 hours (Rayburn). For the first time, people felt that it was just as important to play
as it was to work; family outings and weekend trips had become things that workers expected

many businesses and services could no longer function (Rayburn News 1).
After World War I ended in 1919, many artists began to turn to Abstract Expressionism, while others

experimenting with a different kind of Surrealism. Instead of a paintbrush she used an airbrush.
Functionalism was used in architecture, meaning that these buildings were made with a specific

an anti art (Spielvogel). Not only was art changing, but sports and music were experiencing a

Although in many ways this text can be seen as a radical feminist text, but Devi dismisses the idea as
she is not a feminist. She feels that it is a mere coincidence that some professions are gendered and
doesn t regard women as a separate entity but treats their oppression as linked to a wider oppressive
structure controlled by caste. She thinks that to ignore the latter in the shadow of the former, is a
denial of history . But Usha Ganguli in her introductory text Metamorphosis of Rudali presents a
different view and says that in many ways this could be read as an enabling feminist text with the
empowerement of Sanichri, the bonding between the two characters, the importance given to
household chores, the common experiences of discrimination of women along class lines and the rare
sensitivity expressed by the author towards women in general. Through this novella, Devi discusses

WHAT IS THE IMPACT OF THE INTERNET AND SOCIAL MEDIA ON COPYRIGHT LAWS?
Introduction
Copyright laws were established to protect the original work of individuals since 1709. At present
only two acts are in effect today, the copyright Act of 1909 and 1976. (United States Copyright Laws)
These works protect the individuals work but not the idea. With the digital age copyright laws are not

Congress should however specify users digital rights by mapping out an expansive , affirmative set of
rights delineating the scope of public s rights to sample, reuse, build upon, and share the digital works

create an original work have a right to protect their work under copyright laws. These laws protect the
work from being reproduced in anyway shape or form. According to the (Congress ion Budget Office,
Copyright Issues in Digital Media) The rights that copyright owners can claim over creative work are
not always well defined, however some areas of copyright law remain unsettled. If a person
intentional downloads copyrighted material with the sole intent to profit that person should be

Copyright Laws as they pertain to Music Copyright laws as they pertain to the downloading of music
have a moral and ethical standard. When someone s creative work is taken without his or her

Social Worker Errors
According to Reamer (2005) every social worker is capable of inadvertently inserting incorrect facts
into and omitting important facts from case documentation. To deal with such inconsistences, social
workers should always acknowledge their errors and make clear that the new entry occurred after the
error was discovered (Reamer, 2005). Most importantly, take steps to be honest and sincere with
injured parties, during which social workers accept responsibility for any mistakes they may have
made (Reamer, 2008). Moreover, social workers have a duty to respond to errors in a way that protects
and minimizes harm to the clients (Reamer, 2008). Thus, it is even more important to remain aware of
the potentially harmful consequences not only of our actions, but also of our failures to act (Pope,
2005). Reamer (2008) also believes that social workers must recognize that they have self interested
reasons to respond to error constructively.

Taxes on Flamin Hot Cheetos are not going to take a toll on my savings account. An extra 10 to 20
cents per bag is not going to stop me from having a splurge day, but if there was a tax of 20% making

One of the biggest controversies with the advancement of artificial intelligence is the debate on job
automation. Many people believe that artificial intelligence will advance to become better than
humans and replace humans in most jobs. The opposite belief is that AI will be used to improve the
standard of living and will be a tool to support humans, not replace them. Job automation has many
benefits such as performing more dangerous jobs and complete tasks that humans do not desire to do.
Even though job automation has benefits, there are many people who believe robots will take over the
job market and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. There are multiple supporting factors for each

education. As job automation progresses, so does the standard of living. The largest sector of the job
industry that will be affected by job automation is the service sector, manufacturing, and many other
jobs that do not require higher education. Since robots will replace these lower paying jobs that do not
require much skill, the quality of life will increase. One negative effect is that there are numerous
people that hold these positions in the lower paying industry that will lose

excitement, anxiety and uncertainty associated with living this bustling, changing society. The
movements reflected societies appreciation and interest in freedom of movement in art across Europe
prior World War One. People were immensely excited by speed, technology and new forms of
transport and communication. They all felt the world around them was begining to quickly change.
The artists of the time employed dynamism in their works to express this rapid movement.
Cubism responded to the world changing at a revoulutionary speed dynamically communicated
through abstract art. Cubists disregarded traditonal ways of portraying a subject, and instead broke

  • 2. J Crew Case Summary Texas pacific Group (TPG) should sell J. Crew and recover its original investment. TPG should take into account its time, money, and resources spent in this leveraged buyout. Private equity firms typically buy low and sell high, are known for long term investments, and have a majority stake in an organization. J. Crew was doing well up to 1998, due to TPG s restructuring of J. Crew, which included utilizing its resources to oversee turnarounds. According to the BCG Growth Share Matrix, J. Crew is located in the low market share and high growth rate category. This means that J. Crew could become part of the high market share category with restructuring of the company. However, the company started to take a downturn and TPG might have misread ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Crew continued to underperform in back to school sales and holiday sales, which led to a net loss in 2002. In addition, J. Crew was in risk of bankruptcy due to the amount of debt owed in cash. This would lead to giving up economic and voting interests. TPG underestimated the amount of restructuring needed to turn around the company, which is similar to one of its other investments, Favorite Brands. This investment cost TPG $100 million when it went bankrupt, which is why TPG should sell J. Crew. Learning from past mistakes is crucial and J. Crew seems to be heading in the same direction. Turning around the company is a possibility, but when analyzing J. crew s cash flow it is unlikely the company will be able to cover its debt. Selling J. Crew is the best choice to avoid the risk of losing all of its investment and knowing when to cut your losses is important. Overall, the industry itself is volatile and the investment was too great of a risk. TPG piled financial risk on top of operating risk. Top line growth was still an issue and the industry makes it hard to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. General Electric Case Analysis Introduction General Electric (GE) is one of the most successful companies in the world and a large diversified multinational conglomerate. GE is broken into 9 business sectors, Global and Growth Operations, GE Capital, Healthcare, Oil Gas, Power Water, Energy Management, Appliances Lighting, Aviation and Transportation. Once regarded as the most valuable company in the world in terms of market capitalization, GE s performance has recently started to decline. We recommend that GE divest underperforming units and focus on its core competencies and restructure the management team. Background GE is recognized as one of the oldest and most successful companies in history. The key to its success had been to combine massive size with constant adaptation. Over the decades, GE had adapted both its business portfolio and its management systems to the demands and opportunities of a changing world (Grant, 2016). GE was not only a big successful company but, for many other diversified companies, it was also a model of management from its inception and through the 20th century. At the end of the 20th Century, GE had a legendary CEO, Jack Welch, who transformed the company s portfolio from a manufacturing business to financial services. At the time of his retirement, GE Capital accounted for nearly half of GE s revenue and the bulk of its assets (Grant, 2016). Welch had been the heart of the most widespread and strategic disruption and transformation in GE s history. He ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The repercussions of this extremity cause around 33000 children to die every day from hunger and diseases which could have been easily avoided otherwise. Statistics have shown that on an average at least one woman dies every minute during child birth. Poverty causes around 100 million children to not seek education. This involves a majority of girl children who are forced to drop out from schools since their families can t afford to send them to school and provide education. I genuinely enjoyed cultivating relationships with curious kids from numerous diverse backgrounds. Throughout my volunteering experience, I utilized teaching styles and knowledge gained in Education 111 to include diverse learners, create a safe learning environment for everyone, and communicate effectively with students. The first standard effective procedure (SEP) I utilized during my volunteering at Discovery was accommodating diverse learners (SEP 3). This SEP requires educators to recognize the diversity in their classroom and effectively address and include their multiple groups. The sub SEP I used is 3.4H, which states that educators must understand diversity and actively provide connections into the curriculum. To me, this SEP is important because it centers around refusing to be colorblind and ignoring the various backgrounds in a classroom. Growing up in Sartell, this SEP vastly improved my ability to recognize and embrace diversity. Throughout my own education, I was exposed to some economic diversity, but I met few people with a race or ethnicity significantly different than my own. At Discovery, I was ... Polls in the media Abstract The aim of this analytical essay was to investigate the reliability and accuracy of polls in the media. The report includes both the strengths and weakness of the three selected polls, two of which were conducted over the internet and the remaining over the telephone. This investigation is aimed to look in depth at the methods of survey and the variables within it that may or may not have sufficiently controlled or not. After the research that had been done, it was evident that there were many faults in the survey system. Introduction Polls are a casting of votes that are supplied to a targeted audience, these audiences range from 18 to 50 years although this can vary depending on the subject of the questionnaire. A poll is a specific question supplied to the public in order to gain an average opinion on the matter. The participants can then choose one of the multiple answers that are predefined. A survey is similar to a poll in some ways such as the series of questions provided to civilians to answer, the only discrepancy between the two is that there is a wider range of question types. Here, it is undisputed that Plaintiffs (a) continued to live in the premises for fifteen months after first complaining about the condition of the property, and (b) renewed the lease term. Even if Nenn s status as a single mother warranted additional time to locate a new residence, it surely does not excuse waiting more than a year to vacate the premises and renewing the lease term. Plaintiffs argument that any waiver of a prior alleged breach did not result in waiver of their constructive eviction claim for each subsequent breach also falls short. • 26. Race in Five Film Versions of Shakespeare s Othello Essay... William Shakespeare s Othello is only moderately interested in questions of race and racism. For Shakespeare, Othello s blackness was mainly a plot device. Though the bard did demonstrate concerns about racial and religious prejudice, in Othello and The Merchant of Venice, his interest in the tragedy of the Moor was principally psychological. For Shakespeare and his contemporary audience, Othello was about jealousy, hatred, and vindictiveness. The play has aged well, as have all Shakespeare s plays, but not, perhaps, in the ways Shakespeare s contemporaries would have predicted. In Shakespeare s time, it would have been acceptable for Othello to kill his wife, had she truly been unfaithful. What made Othello a tragic criminal to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Douglas Brode states, Wells was fully aware that Shakespeare had been a pre Freudian psychologist (154). Brode adds that, in the early 1950s when the psychological film was at its peak, Othello served Welles interest in Freudian psychology (154 155). According to Michael MacLiammoir, who plays Iago to Welles lead, Welles believed Iago was impotent and a closet homosexual who married Emilia, played by Faye Compton, as his cover so he could pass for heterosexual. In his published diary of the making of the film, Put Money in Thy Purse, MacLiammoir goes on to say that Welles Iago has a hero s crush on Othello, and becomes upset and jealous as a hurt lover when Othello gives a promotion to Cassio, played by Michael Laurence, instead of him. To add insult to injury, Othello is rumored to have slept with a frustrated Emilia. In Welles version, both the director and Iago buy this motive. When Iago sees Othello and Cassio, played by Derek Jacobi, joined together as brothers, it is too much for Iago. According to Brode, Welles was adamant that MacLiammoir, appear, with the help of makeup and performance, to be castrated (155). Welles shot Othello on location in North Africa and Europe, and his use of camera angles and the outdoor scenery is striking, as Jack F. Forgens notes: Shapes on the screen are less and less easily recognizable: compositions are tense, full of diagonals and faces are obscured, crossed with shadows, or ... I started preparation for entrance exams, left the job, went back to school and earned an MBA with Finance as major. The management degree complemented my technical mindset and gave me a whole new perspective to the business and the work. After a couple of years in Finance and accounting job, I got big break at Oracle consulting as a software consultant. I spent next many years focusing on learning application technology, understanding business processes, solving business problems, and travelling the world. Currently I manage business intelligence applications portfolio at one of the largest retailer in US. During recent business updates I saw many business opportunities that were enabled by technology such as cloud computing, mobility and big data. Dante, the poet, reveals that schism and scandal cause division within family and community. The sinners must walk in an endless cycle of punishment. Their bodies are cut up by the sword of a devil, only to heal and come back to be sliced again. These sinners are aware of certain things going on in the world, but they can only contact the living through Dante the pilgrim. There idea of helping the living reveals their inability to recognize their sins and why they are in hell. Bertran de Born s head has been severed from his body, and walks around holding his head by the hair, swinging it just like a lantern. By advising a son to rebel against his father, he caused an unethical divide within family and political leaders. The head, the father, is now separate from the body, the son. Now Bertran must suffer the pains of division he has caused. Dante says of his own self he made himself a light and they were two in one, and one in two. The contrapasso is so clear, that Bertran himself is his own light, realizing his own sin. He is aware that he has made himself into his own example. He even states, In me you see the perfect contrapasso! The two in one and one in two represents the whole being split by the schism into parts. Together the parts are still Bertran, just as Henry III is family to Henry II in the same nation, but they are at the same time two separate parts because they have turned against one another. The sight of Bertran s severed head is unnatural, just as a son turning against his own father is an abomination against family. After returning home, Hazel s mother realizes that her son has experienced something that he should not have, and confronts him about it. Though he does not admit what he has done, he proceeds to punish himself. It is inferred that Hazel respects his mother s attitude toward the matter. Many people believe that artificial intelligence will advance to become better than humans and replace humans in most jobs. The opposite belief is that AI will be used to improve the standard of living and will be a tool to support humans, not replace them. Job automation has many benefits such as performing more dangerous jobs and complete tasks that humans do not desire to do. Even though job automation has benefits, there are many people who believe robots will take over the job market and the unemployment rate will skyrocket. There are multiple supporting factors for each side of the job automation debate, but the argument will never be settled until AI is further advanced and utilized. The main key points of the side that support the advancement of job automation is that AI will improve the standard of living, lower the prices of products, and encourage people to get higher education. The largest sector of the job industry that will be affected by job automation is the service sector, manufacturing, and many other jobs that do not require higher education.
