From creating a preliminary music magazine task to developing the full product, the student learned new skills in research, planning, and magazine conventions. They gained a better understanding of how to attract specific audiences and incorporate consistent design elements. Feedback from the teacher helped them progress in using Adobe Photoshop and blogging platforms to create a more professional product. Overall, the experience extended the student's abilities in research, software use, and independent learning.

1. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learned in
the progression from it to the full product?
Looking back at my preliminary task, I feel that this experience was a successful one overall. From
which I have learnt new skills and developed my understanding and my current knowledge about
the production of music magazines and the science behind it all, for example, what social groups
certain magazines appeal to and why, how to attract a specific audience, it was just the depth of
research and planning that I had to do in order to make my music magazine successful. My
knowledge of magazine conventions has also improved; although I had a general idea that
magazines looked fairly similar to each other, I wasn’t aware of specific conventions for specific
genres of magazines, and how to achieve the similar layout and design that were consistent
throughout the pages of the music magazines. As for example, it is common for music magazines to
feature iconography in order to make sure it attracts the right kind of audience needed to buy the
magazine, so therefore, I made sure that my pictures contained things such as headphones for
example, as this signifies my chosen genre, which is Electronic Dance Music.

After taking on board the successful feedback from my teacher, for which I had got after making my
school magazine, I have indeed progressed and have come a long way, in the completion of my
finished media product. I now have a stronger knowledge and a better understanding on Adobe
Photoshop CS6 even though I had been quite experienced in using the program already. Also I now
have knowledge with working with the blogging website, Blogger. Through this new learning, it has
helped to express my ever growing understanding on technologies which have made my magazine
come to life. Overall, I have extended my understanding to effectively use Photoshop and other
software to make a professional looking product and blog. I am also now able to effectively and
positively make independent research into any particular area of media; I am also looking forward to
my coursework project next year and hope that I can enjoy it, and gain as many skills as I did in this
coursework project.
