The IKEA approach Kevan Scholes* In times when many nations and people face economic
challenges our vision of creating a better everyday life for the many people is more relevant than
ever. To make it possible to furnish functionally, individually and sustainably even when the
economy is tight. This was Mikael Ohlsson, IKEA s Chief Executive, speaking in 20121 while
reporting a sales increase of 6.9 per cent (to b25.2 billion), profits of b3 billion and share gains in
most markets. At the same time average prices had fallen by 2.6 per cent. IKEA had become the

He felt that the success of IKEA was built on a clear and detailed understanding of the furnishing
market and IKEA s success criteria: IKEA s success has grown from stability and consistency
regarding the big picture but with lots of action and innovation in the detail (evolution rather
than revolution) 4 . . . (IKEA s five success criteria were): 1. Design, function, and quality at low
prices; 2. Unique (Scandinavian) design; 3. Inspiration, ideas and complete solutions; 4.
Everything in one place; 5. A day out , the shopping experience . . . You may well say that they
are similar to those of most companies. The difference, in my opinion, is that IKEA is much
better at delivering on these customer needs than are other retailers . . . Most competitors focus
on one or at most two of these customer needs. High street shops focus on design and inspiration.
Out of town low cost retailers focus on price. Department stores focus on choice. The real
strength of IKEA lies in the combination of all five.5 IKEA s competitive strategy Dahlvig
explained IKEA s approach to competition: You can choose to adapt your company s product
range to the markets you are operating in, or you can choose to shift the market s preference
towards your own range and style.

The Function Of Student Nurse
Monday, October 19th: Today I was at Moses Cone renal floor in the role of student nurse. I had
two patients. One patient was a patient I have had before who went to hemodialysis. My other
patient I had not had before, and she was admitted because her salivary glands were swollen and
infected. My past patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced
myself to her as my student nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. The nurse who was
working with her explained to me who hemodialysis works. He had a little bit of a cultural
/language barrier and it was difficult to understand exactly what he was explaining. I was able to
understand a little bit about how to monitor your patient and make adjustments.... Show more

She was on a dysphagia 1 diet and was receiving her pills crushed in applesauce. She wasn t
tolerating it well because it was so bitter. Since I observed her eating her breakfast without any
problems, and since the order to crush her pills was a nursing order, we tried her on swallowing
pills with water. She did really well with this, so I spoke with her nurse about changing her order.
This nursing intervention we implemented deals specifically with learning outcome #2 which
talks about analyzing nursing interventions as they relate to health promotion in the older adult.
The intervention we implemented promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased
gagging and greater adherence to taking medications. Another less critical intervention I
implemented were daily cares such as bathing, ambulating, and changing her gown. These were
also interventions for comfort and that contributed to the patient feeling better about herself
which will lead to healing. My personal goals for this week at Moses Cone were: I will help
another student with one of their tasks by the end of the day. I will make a discharge plan or
discuss with my nurse what discharge planning looks like before leaving. I will introduce myself
to my patients with my nurse. My patient goals are: My patients will be able to explain what they
need to do upon discharge to maintain health. My patients will state a non medicinal therapy that
can be used in their treatment before the end of the day. My

Completing My Personal Short-Term Goals
Everyone has goals; these goals are what help each person keep pushing through their journey.
With these goals people find meaning and their place in the puzzle of life. It is good to have short
term and long term goals to complete everything desired. My personal short term goal is to finish
college in order to attain my long termgoal. My long term goal is one day owning my home and
becoming debt free. Completing my short term goal first is very important in order to keep on
the right path to my long term goal. Using my short term goal witch is too widespread my
education will open many doors in my financial world and give plenty opportunities. For example

The Fight Over the Redwoods Essay
The Fight Over The Redwoods
Abstract
Pacific Lumber Company, founded in 1869, oversees the careful maintenance and logging of the
world s most productive timberland. Pacific Lumber holds the last private forest of old growth
Redwood. In addition to it s unique hardwood, the Redwood forest hosts an ecosystem supporting
virgin ground never logged, and the endangered Marbled Murrelet. After being purchased in 1985
by the Maxxam firm and it s owner Mr. Hurwitz, Pacific Lumber tripled logging volume and
looked to log the previously privately protected Redwood forest. Due to the use of junk bonds for
financial backing, Maxxam Inc. needed to dramatically increase revenue streams to make interest
payments which resulted in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the ecosystem supporting our way of life collapses, so does our way of life.
Question 2: Although land ownership is an individual right, what takes place on that land is still a
concern for governing agencies. In this case, the impact to ecosystems covers an area greater than
just the area owned by one individual or firm. Controlling the impacts of the landowners operation
mitigates the impact to other landowners in the area. Owning land still requires a reasonable
person to behave in a manner consistent with the law of the land. In this analysis, a gentlemen
named Hurwitz backed Maxxam Inc. to purchase Pacific Lumber. Hungry for profits, he altered
Pacific Lumber s focus to the short term profitability of the firm, instead of long term sustainment
of the business. Poor business practices put Maxxam Inc. in a position requiring a fixed amount of
income to pay loan interest and fees. Hurwitz never assessed whether or not he could sustain
payment with current operations and was forced to increase operations to make profitability still
viable. (The Terrestrial Environment, 1998)
Question 3: Mainstream environmentalists were correct to stop Pacific Lumber from ravaging it s
timberland. Prior business practices provided ecosystem shelter for endangered species and
protected virgin forest from being logged. Changes to federal

The Rugrats Analysis
Over half of Americans, 63.8% to be exact, feel they are not equally represented in the media
(Horton 1). Being a kid and not truly knowing what to believe in when everything portrayed on
the media is confusing can lead to segregation, delusion, and low self esteem. While it is the
child s job to tell people what to display, the media is everyone s tool and what is showed should
reflect a large amount of the population. However, other countries do not have this problem, as
they excel in the varied media world. In India especially, where a sizeable 94% feel represented

television shows. While the portrayal of cartoons for children in America is... Show more content on

with the negative results of lost identity. India is combing races fluently into television and
hopefully the rest of the world will too. If over half of the country cannot feel represented in

Artificial Intelligence Is More Complicated Than The...
Question #1 Artificial Intelligence is far more complicated than the mechanical process of
thinking. There are multiple things in these world from phones to computers that can be
considered Artificial Intelligence. However, the description for an A.I. vary dramatically due to
the fact that intelligence itself is not easy to describe design within itself. The Touring test states
that you could have an imitation game going on with a computer and if you do its considered to
have intelligence. To counter act that point, if one can only imitate and copy someone else s
thoughts and patterns is it considered to be its own entity? Indeed, using language as the bases
of intelligence is a good step however it does not answer the conception of a mind. Artificial
Intelligence can imitate but since it cannot create its own distinctive answer, therefore Lady
Lovelace state that it is lacking conscious and cannot be the basis of a mind. If we look at a
human mind, one can input data from various sources and create mental images that our sentient
mind can handle and process appropriately. With that in mind, we sound and process exactly like
a computer or an intelligent program, where we differentiate from is how we make an output.
This is where the scale for a weak A.I. and a strong A.I come into play. A weak A.I. can input data
per its program but that is where it is limited, while a Strong A.I. can use think for itself possible
outside its program. For Example, a human can be on a train

Pseodolus And The Fourth Wall
Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall
Leigh s statement that The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor
must never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if
they were neighbours seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that
is so present in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems
particularly bothered by any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and
subtle character acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some
sort of impenetrable barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the
aims of theatre and performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed
barrier with a variety of means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is backed up by Livy s claim that in the old days all poets agebant, produced and acted in
their own plays and if it is true then the scene where Pseudolus speaks of playing the poet is
vaguely autobiographical in nature as Plautus who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve
the goal of entertaining the audience now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his
original role, in order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of
referencing of events that occur outside the play such as the nature of Plautus true identity is never
stated outright in the play, but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were
aware of such knowledge. In the context of Leigh s garden fence analogy, this would be the
equivalent of the neighbour winking over the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without
ever actually mentioning

Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen
In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok
depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny
Saunders. The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and
David Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to
improve, learn more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons
seek wisdom and knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships
with each other, and pursue personal excellence.
These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The
boys were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who
planned to become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically.
Danny loved psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi,
he did not allow Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torahis not
such a simple thing. Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often
snuck to a place in the library to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even
began questioning whether or not he wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on
him to take his place, and if he did not it would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views
on schooling and the importance of education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons
to fulfill their roles in life or to follow their dreams the boys needed an education.
The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb
Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny
and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be
strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having
hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). Mr. Malter explained to Reuven that he should
forgive Danny who had come to ask for forgiveness after hitting Reuven in

Eurasian Steppes, East Of Korea On The Edges Of The Old...
Throughout Eurasian Steppes, east of Korea on the edges of the Gobi Desert and north of the
boundaries of the old Chinese empire and the Great Wall is where the modern day Mongolians
are located. They did not just settle amongst an entire continent and then some, they fought their
way towards civilization. Centuries ago they were named The Mongols , nomadic people that
were known for their military forces formed by the great Temujin s father before he died.
Temujin was too young to lead the land force and they would eventually destroy the clan from
the inside, fighting over the goods that were left. Once he became of age he assembled the
Mongols and perfected them for his plans of conquest. Temujin earned the actual name Genghis
(Chinggis) Khan for being the first great Khan of the Mongols and Universal Leader. His
dominant implementations gave the Mongols a purpose to march behind him along his journey
of conquering. Temujin established this name from symbolizing the role of a Great Khan with
perfection. He became the Great Unifier once he assembled his clan, which are considered today
to be the Mongols. To gain greater land his masterminded plan of conquest was to invade the
Western Xia Dynasty first, since they were claimed to be the weakest of the Northern kingdoms
along the Great Wall of China. The capital city of the Jing Dynasty, Yanjing, which is today s
Beijing was then overthrown by Kahn in the year of 1215. After every conquest including Jing he

of showcasing your personality and appearance to achieve more attention from guys. It can prove
to be quite difficult at times if you re not sure how to be seen around them. By following my
guide on how to attract guys you will be a couple steps closer to finding your dream guy.
There are certain ways you can portray your personality aimed at a guy; they are most likely to
notice a girl that loves who she is, who is confident, bold and is not afraid to joke around and
make him laugh. Smiling to show that you re having a good time, keeping eye contact with him
so that he knows he s got your undivided attention and do not forget to laugh at his jokes; this is
a big one, even if they are not funny. If you don t laugh it can lead to a really awkward situation
and so can putting on a ridiculous laugh, he might no longer think you are interested. Make sure
you keep the conversation going, ask questions, talk about yourself, school, family, hobbies, but try
not to get too personal. Make sure that you don t talk too much and overload him with information,
give him a chance to get a few words in and answer rather than leaving him sitting there listening to
you blabber on.
Your Hygiene, guys don t wantto be spending a night with a girl that looks and smells bad. Make
sure you are showering regularly, at least once a day. Washing thoroughly from head to toe may

Nicaraguan Freedom Fighter Essay
The United States government has been caught doing nefarious acts against other countries for
years, from selling WMDs to Saddam Hussein or nuking Japan with the atom bomb. One of these
acts was the support of the Nicaraguan Freedom Fighters . The Freedom Fighters or the Contras,
were a group who rebelled against the Nicaraguan government, which was lead by a Communist
named Daniel Ortega, and were supported by the Reagan administration. Because of the debacle
with the Nicaraguan Freedom Fighters , the United Statesgovernment lost credibility with other
nations of the world.
The United States government was caught lying to the public. According to Doyle McManus, a
Los Angeles Times writer, Congress cut off U.S. aid to the Contras entirely from mid 1984 until
late 1985. During that period, the rebels ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Speech About Birthdays
Do you ever think to yourself that some of you birthdays are more valuable than others?
Personally, I happen to thinks some of my birthdays aren t as fun as when I was six years old.
Currently I am eighteen years old and as the years have gone I ve realized how different things
have been. I must say I don t remember all of my birthdays from when I was a kid, although I do
remember a few of them. When I was five I had a birthdaypartyand my mom hired a clown. I guess
the lady was very friendly she handed out prizes and played with the children. It was like having
a sister for the first time. Although I have to say I m not a big fan of clowns, this woman made
my fifth birthday party an outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and clown Betty had paint
with her, so she painted all the children s faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on my
face and my father had painted his face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just
happened to be musical chairs that I won on. For my prize I had to pick out of a huge surprise
box, I was very happy with my prize I had won myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy.
Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that the clown would only let me win because it
was my birthday. In my opinion I think they were just upset that I had won and they didn t. I also
remember turning six, my mom and dad had taken me to Disney for the very first time. I was
extremely excited to meet Cinderella and all the other characters

How Does Stewart Use Satire In The Daily Show
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart has aired on Comedy Central for over ten years. The question
of it being considered real news or not has been raised among many news outlets across the

programs. The use of the colors red and blue not only symbolizes the Democratic and Republican

Private Prisons Vs. Federal Prisons
Private prisons are supposedly more cost effective than state or federal prisons. Or that is what
their representatives say. But regardless of whether they save money or not, are they truly
beneficial for our communities? This article hopes to break down some of the myths these private
prison corporations have used to push their agenda and discuss how that is far from the case. By
doing so, the reader can form his/her own conclusions on how pervasive and detrimental private
prisons have become within our communities. Additionally, by informing as many people as
possible about the harmful effects of privatizing the correctional system in our nation, we can soon
hope to address some of the emerging problems such as our increased prisonpopulations,
endangerment of prisoners staff personnel, and whether it truly is cost effective.
However, before we can dive into the dilemmas that the prison industrial complex created we must
first define what they are and how did they originate within our country. First, the private prison
system is not a new phenomenon. Although the first appearances of these facilities are not the ones
we think of today, the private sector s involvement in incarcerating people emerged in the early
eighteenth century. These privately operated facilities, in part, gained popularity because they used
the prisoners as laborers, artisans, and other needed occupations in the community. By the mid
nineteenth century, providers constructed the modern private

Dead Poets Society Analysis
Dead Poets Society: The Escape for the Independent Minds
As a society we are groomed to be like everyone else, think like everyone else, and act like
everyone else. In 1959 American society, this idea was even more sought after. Even to the point
of taking away young men s freedoms in order to set them on the right career path for their lives.
Until one professor comes into the most highly thought of all boys preparatory school in America
and gives these young men a dose of what a free mind can truly do for one s spirit and soul.
On the first day all professors portray their very stern and unforgiving personalities towards their
classes and what must be done in order to be successful. However, the boys first interaction with
Mr. Keaton, the new english professor, is much less intimidating as he enters the room after the
bell has rung whistling a slight tune. He catches the boys off guard with his speech of how, as
humans we are just food for worms and we must seize the day every day in order to not miss our
chance before our body falls lifeless. Then further adds to his astonishing first impression on the
boys by following Neil Perry s reading of the Introduction to Poetry page by instructing the boys to
rip this page completely out of their text book. Then even more rip out the rest of the introduction
and justifying that this book is not the bible you will not go to hell for this . The end of this day s

described the government holds all of the power. This is detrimental to the ideological sense of the
philosophers because the government is able to trick the masses into believing in the reality of the

Comparing Ebola And West Nile Virus
Ebola West Nile
Ebola Virus Disease is a deadly disease mostly affecting humans and primates. West Nile Virus is
spread between humans, commonly through mosquito bites. Ebola and West Nile Virus are both
potentially fatal infectious diseases that are often successful at evading our bodies immune
response and have impacted many lives.
Ebola and West Nile virushave negative effects on human health. Both Ebola and West Nile virus
ara capable of disabling protein receptors within cells. This allows the pathogen to continue to
spread through the body, therefore evading the immune system. Ebola causes flu like symptoms,
including fever, headaches, muscle pain, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, and even unexplained
hemorrhaging. These symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure. Survival
rate is dependant on the person s immune system due to the lack of a specific treatment.
Symptoms are typically treated as they appear. West Nile virus, however, is different. Most people
infected do not experience symptoms, while a small amount (1 in 5) will experience symptoms
similar to Ebola. About 1 in 150 people will experience severe symptoms such as high fever,

Medieval Civilization Summary
Chapter Ten of our textbook relates to the Medieval Civilization: The Rise of Western Europe.
The first source I used for this discussion post is the Medieval Technology Science: The 1000 AD
Pivot from our Instructor Commentary. This source is relevant to study the topic of Medieval
Civilization because it allows us to explore the technology and science used in this era. This
source gives us an outline and summary of the Medieval technology and science used.
According to this commentary, it was in the year 1000 that technology began to accelerate. The
increase in technology can be contributed to monks, clergy, and scholars. Also, civilizations
moved from constant war to more advanced pursuits since economic, political, and social norms
were achieved all leading to the rise of Western Europe (Darty 1 2). This commentary also gave
valuable information for us to get a clear picture of the medieval style of technology used during
this period including eotechnic which focused on wood, stone, wind, and water as the drivers of
machined technology (2). This commentary supports the historically continued progress of the
Medieval civilization which led to the rise of Western Europe. The second source I used for this

During the movie Torch Song Trilogy there is a use of numerous concepts. Each pertaining to the

and his daughter, Gillian s, attempt to reconcile an entire image of her father. Aldrich s story
was one of caution, of becoming too caught up in one s surroundings. In seeking to become a
staple of a piece of time and history, Aldrich disregarded his individuality in order to emulate
those he admired. Aldrich life was a pattern of change categorized by numerous marriages and
the resulting children. He dawned new roles once he tired of his domestic life, until he decided
to move on to a new family, and the cycle started again. Gillian has categorized her father s life
into time periods, periods in which he enacts a new persona and dons a new family to complete
the illusion. There were many moral issues raised in this podcast. Some were individually
perceived morals flaws, while others were more widely agreed upon to be negative. Some of his
ethical issues that are more subjective were things like absentee parenting, extramarital affairs,
drugs, and alcohol use. However, his more egregious ethical issues were the physical and
emotional abuse of his children, particularly Josie, his assault on his son s girlfriend, and his
malicious treatment of his wives in response to his own life failings. He consistently rationalized
his wrong doings and blamed those around him for his inability to be who he wanted. Overall, his
life sounded like a case of undiagnosed and untreated mental

Persuasive Essay On Gymnastics
Gymnastics is an intensive sport that puts an enormous amount of pressure onto girls from the
age of 5 to perform to high standards. Gymnastics has been around since the opening of the
Olympics which was in 1896. This sport contains the elements of strength, flexibility and a high
level of coordination. Girls tend to excel in these elements of personal fitness but it can also cause
excruciating pain in the nearby future. Structures of the body are strong while they are used, but
overtime the bone density gets weakened. Girls also do not experience their menstrual cycle until

benefits that nothing else can offer such as developing skills that to an olympic level, maintaining
a healthy body and how to socially proceed with their new found confidence. This sport offers a
broad variety of confidence that make young girls strive. Girls are proud to achieve skills that only
gymnastics can offer. Gymnastics does not only help the body, but the mind too. Young girls that

Many years ago, the manufacturing of shoes, household utensils, boats, crafts, hunting tools,
furniture, clothes, house decorations and bread baking were all produced in families and clans by
specialised in doing so. As the need for such homemade items grew for commercial purposes, clan
and family members with such skills formed organisations herewith known as guilds with
responsibilities of protecting and guarding the exploitation of such skills and to avoid impostors
from cheating the consumers and discrediting the master craftsmen. With time the guilds grew
more and more powerful, they became the only authority to certify craftsman to practice the trades.
Within the protection and guarding of the apprenticeship, the guilds started to set up rules and
conditions of the apprenticeship, such as, suitable working conditions for the apprentice, set of
wages for an apprentice who has just completed the apprenticeship and the standard of work (A. Du
Preez 2012: 13). Unlike in the beginning of time, contracts were now drafted for both the master
craftsman and the apprentice to sign before entering into an apprenticeship. Further readings would
state that the contractual agreements signed by the two parties had with them rules and conditions
for both parties to undertake. Such rules were:

The Brief Etymology of the Word Humor
Imagine for a moment the vast history of the languages of the world. The base sounds that over
time formed into words, words that eventually evolved into language, language that branched and
developed into different languages. Modern languages adopted words from ancient languages, and
adapted the definitions to meet the requisites of the civilizations for which they served. This
development in languageis due to the fundamental need for the human race to communicate
effectively with one another. Therefore, it is not surprising that many words have dual meanings.
For instance the word, humor, has expanded from its original definition to encompass the
interpretation available in modern English. The following is a brief view of the complex etymology
of the word humor.Presently, people use the word, humor, to describe an event or person that one
finds comical. According to The American Heritage Dictionary, one definition is, The quality that
makes something laughable or amusing. (The American Heritage Dictionary). However, in ancient
times the word humor had a completely different meaning. Amazingly, the word, humor, traces its
origins back to the ancient Romans, whose spoken and written language was Latin in
approximately 900 AD. According to Dictionary.com, the word humor developed from the Latin
word umor, which means moisture. It was during the 13th century in old Northern French language
that the word humor was developed. The Online Etymology Dictionary defines humor

How Elizabethan Fashion Has Influenced the Modern Day...
Every generation laughs at the old fashions, but follows religiously the new. (Fashion Quotes 1)
The words once spoken by Henry David Thoreau are politically correct. People often look at
Elizabethan s choice of fashion and ridicule everything about it from the hair, down to the
stockings. As it appears, fashionhas always been a broad topic of discussion in the world. Whether
it is NY Fashion Week or a Macy s fashion show, fashion is something that has always been an eye
catcher. Fashion has been around for many years, and whether we know it or not, Elizabethan
fashion has influenced the way modern fashion is today.

Women often times wore gloves made of cherverill, silk and velvet. The Elizabethan time period
was known for their exquisite sense of fashion. (Women s Fashion 1) Although Elizabethan
fashion had multiple tricks of the trade, modern day fashion has only few tricks worth sharing.
Modern day fashion is a more carefree approach. There aren t usually any rules when it comes
what to wear, and women are granted the freedom to choose what they would prefer to wear.
Women generally enjoy this aspect of society, since many things are still controlled. Unlike the
Elizabethan women, modern women prefer to wear jeans on an average day. T shirts with fun,
different sayings on them are often times paired with jeans. Some women even prefer to wear
men s clothing, such as jeans and loafers. Most women often wear shirts that show a little more
cleavage than what would be seen as appropriate in Elizabethan times, as seen in Figure two.
(Modern day 1) Commonly, women are classified by what sort of brands they wear, or what type
of style they have, like the Elizabethans. Elizabethan fashion influenced the modern day fashion
world in many aspects. In Elizabethan times, fashion was often used to show status in society, and
was very important to women. Fashion today can be compared to the same aspects. Women wear
different brands or types of clothing to show status or capital. Although women don t wear as many

where communication plays a part in teamwork. You have to be able to communicate with your

Identify The Four Major Landforms Of Europe

four major landforms of Europe include the Western Uplands, North European Plain, Central
Uplands and Alpine Mountains. These landforms are primarily arranged in bands that run from
east to west. Each landform provides a biodiversity and resources for humans. The Western
Uplands are formed of ancient rock that has been shaped by glaciation and shapes the north and
west coastline of Europe. It includes Spain, French Brittany, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. The
North European Plain is low and fertile and has rivers. It goes from southern Britain through the
middle of Europe to Russia. The Central Uplands are mostly wooded hills and highlands in France,
Belgium, southern Germany, and the Czech Republic. The Alpine Mountains have high mountain
peaks and active volcanoes that run from northern Spain across southern Europe to the Caucasus in
Russia. The High Alps range from eastern France to Slovenia and are central to the Alpine region.
Mountains act as a natural dividing range and can also isolate people and separate cultural groups.
The Central Uplands is the area bordering the main Alps to the north, which includes a significant
portion of southern Germany extending eastward. These foothills provide excellent farmland, and
there are major agricultural operations here. Western Highlands offer an area for grazing livestock

An increase in patient acuities, readmissions, and requirement for patient satisfaction among other
issues has created a greater need for more registered nurses in the hospital setting. Quality and safe
patient care is a direct correlation to the number of staff. With the demand of nurses on the rise,
some health care institutions have not readjusted the nurse patient ratios and the result is decreased
patient satisfaction, increased mortality/morbidity in patients, more health care associated infection,

A leadership approach to staffing issues may focus on how the current staff can work together to
provide quality care that is necessary for patient satisfaction, without experiencing burnout. While a
leader should keep budget and costs in mind, their focus should be using the available resources and
staff to attain the same goal as management. A leadership approach would be optimizing nursing
intensity based on actual patient needs to address the perceived nursing shortage by creating a
better fit between patient demands and the available nursing resources used in the clinical setting.
(Welton, 2007).
The approach that fits the author s personal and professional philosophy of nursing would be
that of leadership. Patient satisfaction has a direct correlation with employee satisfaction. While
there is an issue of lack of staffing related to current hospital census and patient s increased
needs, the best solution that is available to all facilities is creating a positive environment in
which the available staff is motivated to provide the best possible care to all patients. Hiring a
team that is willing to work together in a busy, hectic setting is the key to providing quality care.
Leaders are able to motivate staff, enhance interpersonal relationships between staff and
management, offer incentives for hard work, and provide positive feedback. Staff members who

about the world around us, even just for a moment. This boldly claims a kind of autonomy for art,
but one that is distinct from Theodor W. Adorno s conception and more in line with the affirmative
notions the aesthetic impulse. As such, the kind of aesthetics that I am eluded to here is not just a
state of contemplation. It is much more. As Cramerotti describes in his aforementioned essay, it is
rather the capacity of an art form to put our sensibility in motion, and convert what we feel about
nature and the humanrace into a concrete (visual or bodily) experience . It is useful to introduce
Deleuze s categories of the actual and the virtual and put them into motion. In his 1968 text
Difference and Repetition , Deleuze explains that the virtual is not opposed to the real; it
possesses a full reality by itself. The process it undergoes is actualisation. It would be wrong to
see only a verbal despite here: it is a question of existence itself . Deleuze s category of the virtual ,
the realm of affects and Paterson s documents of darkness are united in their intangibility and their
capacity to move the spectator beyond the familiar. Collectively, these forces harness the ability to
transport the viewer to another time and place.

ethico aesthetic paradigm, which pertains to subjectivity as well as art. He argues that new

Greek Mythology Essay
Since the beginning of time the people of the world have their share of beliefs. Greek mythology
is the arguably the most popular region of study. In Ancient Greece every citizen had a patron that
would protect them and pantheism was commonplace. The Romans admired the Greeks in their
art and culture and even took different aspects of their gods. Polytheism was widely accepted in
all cultures so the seed of mythology bloomed. The time line of the creations of gods to the end of
their reign is an important factor in Greek Mythology.

The Fall of Cronus and the Rise of the Olympians Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his
father s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made
him disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and
Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help
Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years
of battles, the Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was
after this war that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst
him and his brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.)

After the Olympians took rule over the world, Gaea grew upset about the order of things. It was
either because she thought that the Titians were not being treated fairly, or because she felt that
she was being appreciated. Either way, she was angered and decided that she wanted to take over.
She brought forth creations that were birthed to overthrow the Olympians: the Giants. Amongst
them were Typhoon and Echidna (Hatzitsinidou). Typhoon was said to be so tall that his head

Literature Review On Intelligence
Search strategy
PsycINFO was the database I used for this literature summary. Firstly, I searched articles relate to
breastfeeding. I tried to exhaust the results on this topic by changing three kinds of phrasings
(breast feeding, breastfeeding or breast fed), and they turned out to be 4,133. Secondly, I searched
articles relate to intelligence and because of the numerous amount of studies in this field, I specified
it by choosing the following interested scopes cognitive ability, cognitive development, intelligence
quotient, intelligence, and IQ. I also searched for cognitive measurement as a performance of
intelligence, using Cognit* to widen the results. I added up the articles on intelligence and
cognition by the OR Boolean operator and got 430,710 results. Next, I applied the AND Boolean
operator to combine breastfeeding with intelligence and gained 262 pieces of studies. With the aim
of exploring more about the confounding effect on past literature, I searched confound in three
ways, namely confound, confounded or confounded. The previous 262 outcomes which were
intersected with confound then attenuated to 22, this step also helped me narrow the scope down.
All of the searches concentrated on title and abstract, expect for confounding I look it up in the

How Did Thespis Use Masks In Ancient Greek Theatre
Masks played a vital role in many aspects of Ancient Greek theatre. The use of masks in Greek
antiquity originated not from the theatre, but from religious rituals honouring the god Dionysus.
Masks also partly originated from Greek mythology. From the rituals and festivals came Thespis,
who became the first known actorand playwright, as well as the first person to introduce masks to
theatre. The masks were intricately designed and served many purposes within the theatre. Masks
that are inspired by those used in Ancient Greek theatre are still used today in stage performances,
and are widely regarded as one of the most iconic components of Ancient Greek theatre.
The use of masks found their origins from religious rituals in Athens honouring Dionysus, the God
of wine, and fertility. The rituals were performed by the Ancient cult of Dionysus, which took over

in character and interact with the chorus. This style became known as tragedy or tragoidia ,
meaning goat song , which is referring to the goats sacrificed to Dionysus and the goat skins the
actors wore. Thespis is also credited with replacing the dithyrambic makeup early actors wore with
linen masks to portray characters. Competitions were held in City Dionysia in Athens to find the

fun experiences doing this, and this story I wish to tell you is one of the most interesting, because I
have the most fun exploring the unknown.
During the summer, I went to a nearby park called Prophetstown. It s a park with a recreated
farm from the times of William Henry Harrison and Tecumseh. During my exploring, I came
across a fence behind a forest. I managed to squeeze through it, and found a very large hole,
around 100 wide, 30 feet deep, and at least a quarter mile in length. I slid down . After that I
threw rocks at the 30 foot cliff, which made some of the rocks in it fall down. I did this until
there was a noticeable pile of pebbles surrounding me. I decided to go explore further into the
pit, where I found more piles of gravel, as well as bulldozers and shovels. Eventually I found an
opening that led to a swamp. The mud near the water made your feet sink into it, and the rest of
the land was covered in hard bamboo like plants, making me forced to step through the wet and
slimy mud. After some time, A dock came into view, and I stepped on, my once new shoes
covered in mud. The dock had a canoe attached to it, full of emergency supplies such as a flare
gun, food, and water. It didn t make much sense to me because the swamp was very small. A
couple of feet from the canoe, I

The Parable Of The Talents
The parable of the talents has a decent amount of debate in regards to the meaning. This parable is
told by Jesus in Matthew 25: 14 30, to convey a moral lesson. Although many people have different
beliefs, my opinion is that the parable represents opportunity, relationship, and the Kingdom of
Heaven.
Chapter 25 of Matthew is Jesus answering the disciple s questions regarding the destruction of the
temple, the sign of his return, and the end of the age. His answers are given to them in the three
parables, all acknowledging Jesus coming back in the future. The parable of the talents is told
during the Olivet discourse, given on the Mount of Olives. The discourse was an extended teaching
given by Jesus Christ. His subject [was] the end time. Jesus is telling the parable to his disciples,
before his upcoming resurrection. With that, it would make sense that Jesus has told these stories to
the disciples so that when he is killed, his word and lessons continue.
The parable of the talents is one parable within a series. It is important that while researching the
parable of the talents, other parables are analyzed in Matthew as well. Many themes throughout
Matthew are interconnected, especially the Kingdom of Heaven. The parable of the ten virgins
precedes the parable of the talents. In this story, the wise virgins who bring extra oil for their lamps
symbolize preparedness for Jesus return. After the parable of the talents, the story of the separation
of the goats and

from the use of the internet to convey the syllabus and distance education. It is characterized by the
physical state of teacher student relationship that is affected by the geographical separation and in

According to uniquely Northern Ireland (2008), and Belfast visitor guide (2011), Belfast is the

To make it possible to furnish functionally, individually and sustainably even when the economy is tight. This was Mikael Ohlsson, IKEA s Chief Executive, speaking in 20121 while reporting a sales increase of 6.9 per cent (to b25.2 billion), profits of b3 billion and share gains in most markets. At the same time average prices had fallen by 2.6 per cent. A day out , the shopping experience . . . You may well say that they are similar to those of most companies. The difference, in my opinion, is that IKEA is much better at delivering on these customer needs than are other retailers . . . Most competitors focus on one or at most two of these customer needs. High street shops focus on design and inspiration. Out of town low cost retailers focus on price. Department stores focus on choice. The real strength of IKEA lies in the combination of all five.5 IKEA s competitive strategy Dahlvig explained IKEA s approach to competition: You can choose to adapt your company s product range to the markets you are operating in, or you can choose to shift the market s preference towards your own range and style. ... • 3. The Function Of Student Nurse Monday, October 19th: Today I was at Moses Cone renal floor in the role of student nurse. I had two patients. One patient was a patient I have had before who went to hemodialysis. My other patient I had not had before, and she was admitted because her salivary glands were swollen and infected. My past patient went to hemodialysis at 7:45 right after I got report and introduced myself to her as my student nurse. I was able to go see her in hemodialysis. The nurse who was working with her explained to me who hemodialysis works. He had a little bit of a cultural /language barrier and it was difficult to understand exactly what he was explaining. She was on a dysphagia 1 diet and was receiving her pills crushed in applesauce. She wasn t tolerating it well because it was so bitter. Since I observed her eating her breakfast without any problems, and since the order to crush her pills was a nursing order, we tried her on swallowing pills with water. She did really well with this, so I spoke with her nurse about changing her order. This nursing intervention we implemented deals specifically with learning outcome #2 which talks about analyzing nursing interventions as they relate to health promotion in the older adult. The intervention we implemented promoted our patient s comfort and also led to decreased gagging and greater adherence to taking medications. Another less critical intervention I implemented were daily cares such as bathing, ambulating, and changing her gown. These were also interventions for comfort and that contributed to the patient feeling better about herself which will lead to healing. My personal goals for this week at Moses Cone were: I will help another student with one of their tasks by the end of the day. I will make a discharge plan or discuss with my nurse what discharge planning looks like before leaving. I will introduce myself to my patients with my nurse. My patient goals are: My patients will be able to explain what they need to do upon discharge to maintain health. My patients will state a non medicinal therapy that can be used in their treatment before the end of the day. My ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Fight Over the Redwoods Essay The Fight Over The Redwoods Abstract Pacific Lumber Company, founded in 1869, oversees the careful maintenance and logging of the world s most productive timberland. Pacific Lumber holds the last private forest of old growth Redwood. In addition to it s unique hardwood, the Redwood forest hosts an ecosystem supporting virgin ground never logged, and the endangered Marbled Murrelet. After being purchased in 1985 by the Maxxam firm and it s owner Mr. Hurwitz, Pacific Lumber tripled logging volume and looked to log the previously privately protected Redwood forest. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the ecosystem supporting our way of life collapses, so does our way of life. Question 2: Although land ownership is an individual right, what takes place on that land is still a concern for governing agencies. In this case, the impact to ecosystems covers an area greater than just the area owned by one individual or firm. Controlling the impacts of the landowners operation mitigates the impact to other landowners in the area. Owning land still requires a reasonable person to behave in a manner consistent with the law of the land. In this analysis, a gentlemen named Hurwitz backed Maxxam Inc. to purchase Pacific Lumber. Hungry for profits, he altered Pacific Lumber s focus to the short term profitability of the firm, instead of long term sustainment of the business. Poor business practices put Maxxam Inc. in a position requiring a fixed amount of income to pay loan interest and fees. Hurwitz never assessed whether or not he could sustain payment with current operations and was forced to increase operations to make profitability still viable. (The Terrestrial Environment, 1998) Question 3: Mainstream environmentalists were correct to stop Pacific Lumber from ravaging it s timberland. Prior business practices provided ecosystem shelter for endangered species and protected virgin forest from being logged. Changes to federal ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Being a kid and not truly knowing what to believe in when everything portrayed on the media is confusing can lead to segregation, delusion, and low self esteem. While it is the child s job to tell people what to display, the media is everyone s tool and what is showed should reflect a large amount of the population. However, other countries do not have this problem, as they excel in the varied media world. • 7. Artificial Intelligence Is More Complicated Than The... Question #1 Artificial Intelligence is far more complicated than the mechanical process of thinking. There are multiple things in these world from phones to computers that can be considered Artificial Intelligence. However, the description for an A.I. vary dramatically due to the fact that intelligence itself is not easy to describe design within itself. The Touring test states that you could have an imitation game going on with a computer and if you do its considered to have intelligence. To counter act that point, if one can only imitate and copy someone else s thoughts and patterns is it considered to be its own entity? Indeed, using language as the bases of intelligence is a good step however it does not answer the conception of a mind. Artificial Intelligence can imitate but since it cannot create its own distinctive answer, therefore Lady Lovelace state that it is lacking conscious and cannot be the basis of a mind. If we look at a human mind, one can input data from various sources and create mental images that our sentient mind can handle and process appropriately. With that in mind, we sound and process exactly like a computer or an intelligent program, where we differentiate from is how we make an output. This is where the scale for a weak A.I. and a strong A.I come into play. A weak A.I. can input data per its program but that is where it is limited, while a Strong A.I. can use think for itself possible outside its program. For Example, a human can be on a train ... • 8. Pseodolus And The Fourth Wall Pseodolus and the Fourth Wall Leigh s statement that The edge of the stage is not an invisible boundary over which the actor must never step but a garden wall across which the actor gossips and flirts with the public as if they were neighbours seems to have captured the very essence of audience acknowledgement that is so present in the play Pseudolus. Neither cast nor script of this comedy by Plautus seems particularly bothered by any notion of the fourth wall, and the play is rife with both blatant and subtle character acknowledgement of the audience. Indeed the notion that the fourth wall is some sort of impenetrable barrier between performer and audience seems absurd when one examines the aims of theatre and performance as a whole, and Pseudolus circumvents and breaches this supposed barrier with a variety of means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is backed up by Livy s claim that in the old days all poets agebant, produced and acted in their own plays and if it is true then the scene where Pseudolus speaks of playing the poet is vaguely autobiographical in nature as Plautus who has taken on the role of Pseudolus to achieve the goal of entertaining the audience now claims to be taking on a new role, which is in fact his original role, in order to enable his role as Pseudolus to be enacted to full effect. This sort of referencing of events that occur outside the play such as the nature of Plautus true identity is never stated outright in the play, but one cannot ignore the fact that the play behaves as though it were aware of such knowledge. In the context of Leigh s garden fence analogy, this would be the equivalent of the neighbour winking over the fence in a silent joke at the secret you share, without ever actually mentioning ... • 9. Summary Of Chaim Potok s The Chosen In the world today finding someone full of wisdom is rare. In the book The Chosen, Chaim Potok depicts four extremely wise men: Reb Saunders, David Malter, Reuven Malter, and Danny Saunders. The younger boys Reuven Malter and Danny Saunders, are the sons of Reb Saunders and David Malter. These men demonstrate knowledge in many areas of their lives, and all strive to improve, learn more about God, and understand the world around them. The fathers and their sons seek wisdom and knowledge through schooling, show wisdom in their relationships and friendships with each other, and pursue personal excellence. These two families embrace education as essential, and the families do not take it lightly. The boys were expected to do well and at times school consumed their entire lives. Reuven, who planned to become a rabbi like his father, was an excellent mathematician, and thought logically. Danny loved psychology and reading, but due to his father being a very strict Hasidic Jewish Rabi, he did not allow Danny the luxury to study books other than the Talmud. But to study Torahis not such a simple thing. Torah is a task for all day and all night. (132). As a result, Danny often snuck to a place in the library to read and study other things. He could not get enough and even began questioning whether or not he wanted to be a rabbi as expected. His father was counting on him to take his place, and if he did not it would disgrace the family. Both fathers held similar views on schooling and the importance of education and wisdom. They knew that in order for their sons to fulfill their roles in life or to follow their dreams the boys needed an education. The relationships between the boys brought the families a little closer than before. Although Reb Saunders and Mr. Malter did not agree on their theology they had one huge thing in common, Danny and Reuven were best friends. Their fathers poured wisdom into their friendship so that it could be strong and lasting. You remember what the Talmud says. If a person comes to apologize for having hurt you, you must listen and forgive him. (63). They did not just settle amongst an entire continent and then some, they fought their way towards civilization. Centuries ago they were named The Mongols , nomadic people that were known for their military forces formed by the great Temujin s father before he died. Temujin was too young to lead the land force and they would eventually destroy the clan from the inside, fighting over the goods that were left. Once he became of age he assembled the Mongols and perfected them for his plans of conquest. Temujin earned the actual name Genghis (Chinggis) Khan for being the first great Khan of the Mongols and Universal Leader. His dominant implementations gave the Mongols a purpose to march behind him along his journey of conquering. Temujin established this name from symbolizing the role of a Great Khan with perfection. He became the Great Unifier once he assembled his clan, which are considered today to be the Mongols. To gain greater land his masterminded plan of conquest was to invade the Western Xia Dynasty first, since they were claimed to be the weakest of the Northern kingdoms along the Great Wall of China. Currently I am eighteen years old and as the years have gone I ve realized how different things have been. I must say I don t remember all of my birthdays from when I was a kid, although I do remember a few of them. When I was five I had a birthdaypartyand my mom hired a clown. I guess the lady was very friendly she handed out prizes and played with the children. It was like having a sister for the first time. Although I have to say I m not a big fan of clowns, this woman made my fifth birthday party an outstanding time! Her name was Betty, and clown Betty had paint with her, so she painted all the children s faces. I believe she had painted a pink butterfly on my face and my father had painted his face as Spider Man. I also recall playing many games, it just happened to be musical chairs that I won on. For my prize I had to pick out of a huge surprise box, I was very happy with my prize I had won myself a Snow White game for my Gameboy. Some of the girls got a bit jealous and would say that the clown would only let me win because it was my birthday. In my opinion I think they were just upset that I had won and they didn t. • 16. Private Prisons Vs. Federal Prisons Private prisons are supposedly more cost effective than state or federal prisons. Or that is what their representatives say. But regardless of whether they save money or not, are they truly beneficial for our communities? This article hopes to break down some of the myths these private prison corporations have used to push their agenda and discuss how that is far from the case. By doing so, the reader can form his/her own conclusions on how pervasive and detrimental private prisons have become within our communities. Additionally, by informing as many people as possible about the harmful effects of privatizing the correctional system in our nation, we can soon hope to address some of the emerging problems such as our increased prisonpopulations, endangerment of prisoners staff personnel, and whether it truly is cost effective. However, before we can dive into the dilemmas that the prison industrial complex created we must first define what they are and how did they originate within our country. First, the private prison system is not a new phenomenon. Although the first appearances of these facilities are not the ones we think of today, the private sector s involvement in incarcerating people emerged in the early eighteenth century. These privately operated facilities, in part, gained popularity because they used the prisoners as laborers, artisans, and other needed occupations in the community. It is much more. As Cramerotti describes in his aforementioned essay, it is rather the capacity of an art form to put our sensibility in motion, and convert what we feel about nature and the humanrace into a concrete (visual or bodily) experience . It is useful to introduce Deleuze s categories of the actual and the virtual and put them into motion. In his 1968 text Difference and Repetition , Deleuze explains that the virtual is not opposed to the real; it possesses a full reality by itself. The process it undergoes is actualisation. It would be wrong to see only a verbal despite here: it is a question of existence itself . Deleuze s category of the virtual , the realm of affects and Paterson s documents of darkness are united in their intangibility and their capacity to move the spectator beyond the familiar. Collectively, these forces harness the ability to transport the viewer to another time and place. I slid down . After that I threw rocks at the 30 foot cliff, which made some of the rocks in it fall down. I did this until there was a noticeable pile of pebbles surrounding me. I decided to go explore further into the pit, where I found more piles of gravel, as well as bulldozers and shovels. Eventually I found an opening that led to a swamp. Although many people have different beliefs, my opinion is that the parable represents opportunity, relationship, and the Kingdom of Heaven. Chapter 25 of Matthew is Jesus answering the disciple s questions regarding the destruction of the temple, the sign of his return, and the end of the age. His answers are given to them in the three parables, all acknowledging Jesus coming back in the future. The parable of the talents is told during the Olivet discourse, given on the Mount of Olives. The discourse was an extended teaching given by Jesus Christ. His subject [was] the end time. Jesus is telling the parable to his disciples, before his upcoming resurrection. With that, it would make sense that Jesus has told these stories to the disciples so that when he is killed, his word and lessons continue. The parable of the talents is one parable within a series. It is important that while researching the parable of the talents, other parables are analyzed in Matthew as well. Many themes throughout Matthew are interconnected, especially the Kingdom of Heaven. The parable of the ten virgins precedes the parable of the talents. In this story, the wise virgins who bring extra oil for their lamps symbolize preparedness for Jesus return. After the parable of the talents, the story of the separation of the goats and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
