This document discusses 6 honest reasons why people procrastinate and provides suggestions on how to address each reason. The reasons are: 1) Not knowing what to do first; 2) Feeling overwhelmed; 3) Not being interested in the task; 4) Having too much time until the deadline; 5) Fear of failure or success; and 6) Just feeling lazy. For each reason, the document offers quick actions one can take, such as breaking large projects into smaller tasks, setting earlier deadlines, talking through fears, and allowing for lazy time before refocusing on the task.

Drug and alcohol addiction develops over time, but it often comes with copious warning signs before casual use grows into full-blown addiction. Even before a person uses, there are many signs that could indicate a person is more likely to fall into abusive patterns of drug use. While risk factors don’t necessarily mean that addiction is inevitable, it’s important for individuals to be aware of their risk level so their behavior will be more informed if they choose to engage in drug use. Watch our slide show for information and statistics about drug and alcohol abuse risk factors. For more information about seeking help with addiction recovery for yourself or a loved one, contact Hillside.

Why We Procrastinate written by Leo Babauta
Let’s take a quick look at what makes us procrastinate. There are several reasons, which are
related in various ways:
1. We want instant gratification. Resting on the couch is thought of as nicer, right now, than
going on a run. Reading blogs is easier, right now, than reading a classic novel. Checking email
or Facebook is easier, now, than doing that project you’ve been putting off. Eating chocolate
cake is tastier, right now, than eating veggies.
2. We fear/dread something. We might not write that chapter in our book because there are
problems with the writing that we haven’t figured out (often because we haven’t thought it
through). Or we might be afraid we’re going to fail, or look ignorant or stupid. We’re most often
afraid of the unknown, which has more power because we don’t examine this fear — it just lurks
in the back of our minds. Dreading or fearing something makes us want to put it off, to postpone
even thinking about it, and to do something easy and safe instead.
3. It’s easy – no negative consequences right now. When we were in school and had a teacher
looking over our shoulders and scolding us if we didn’t do our work, we tended to do the work
(until some of us learned that we could tune out the scolding, that is). But when we got home,
sometimes no one would be looking over our shoulders … so there wasn’t any immediate
negative consequence to watching TV or playing games instead. Sure, we’d get a bad grade
tomorrow, but that’s not right now. The same is true of using the Internet or doing other kinds of
procrastination tasks — we’ll pay for it later, but right now, no one is getting mad at us.
4. We overestimate our future self. We often have a long list of things we plan to do, because
we think we can do a lot in the future. The reality is usually a little worse than we expected, but
that doesn’t stop us from thinking the future will be different yet again. For the same reason, we
think it’s OK to procrastinate, because we’re going to do it later, for sure. Our future self will be
incredibly productive and focused! Except, our future self is also lazy, and doesn’t do it either.
Damn future self.
Four Powerful
Solution
s
Now that we know the problems, the solutions aren’t that hard to figure out. Just don’t put them
off, OK?
1. Stop and think. When we allow the above thoughts to go on without really being conscious
of them, we procrastinate. When we actually pause and think about those thoughts, we can
rationally see that they’re wrong. Instant gratification in the form of goofing off or eating junk
food can lead to problems later. Fears are overblown and shouldn’t stand in our way. Not having
negative consequences now doesn’t mean there won’t be consequences later. Our future self isn’t
as bad-ass as we like to think. So think about what you’re doing, and start to do the more rational
thing. Use the strate.

These dolls are designed to be incredibly lifelike, with realistic skin tones and hair, and they have become increasingly popular among collectors and those who use them for therapeutic purposes. At Babeside, we believe that our reborn dolls can provide comfort and healing to anyone who needs it.
The Healing Power of Babeside's Handcrafted Creations
Our reborn dolls are more than just beautiful pieces of art - they can also help alleviate stress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. Studies have shown that holding or cuddling a soft object like a stuffed animal or a reborn doll can release oxytocin, which is often referred to as the "love hormone." This hormone helps us feel calm and relaxed, reducing feelings of stress and anxiety.
In addition to their physical benefits, reborn dolls can also offer emotional support. For many people, having something to care for and nurture can bring a sense of purpose and fulfillment. Reborn dolls can also serve as a reminder of happy memories or loved ones who have passed away.
Welcome to the Program Your Destiny course. In this course, we will be learning the technology of personal transformation, neuroassociative conditioning (NAC) as pioneered by Tony Robbins. NAC is used to deprogram negative neuroassociations that are causing approach avoidance and instead reprogram yourself with positive neuroassociations that lead to being approach automatic. In doing so, you change your destiny, moving towards unlocking the hypersocial self within, the true self free from fear and operating from a place of personal power and love.
3. Do you know enough about the project?
Are you procrastinating because you’re not clear about the
first step or what comes after it?

4. Quick things you can do if this is the case:
• Is there a checklist or some playbook somewhere (Hello Google!) that
you can use to guide you?
• Use a lifeline and brainstorm with a friend. It’s not important that your
friend is or isn’t an expert on the subject. Simply talking about the
activity often generates an initial set of ‘first steps’.
• Just do something. Putting yourself in motion towards the goal will help
point you towards the right direction. Don’t worry about the right
sequence. Most everything (unless it’s surgery or a shuttle launch) can be
reversed.

6. Are you looking at a loooonnng list of tasks and feeling
overwhelmed?
(Psst, that’s how I feel whenever I open a box from IKEA.)
secondbreaks.com
7. Quick things you can do if this is the case:
• Stop feeding the monster and quit looking at the looonnng list.
• Take bite-size pieces of the project. Chunk it up into smaller groups of
tasks. Pick a group and add only those tasks to your Daily or WeeklyTo-
Do list. (Store the loongg list or that humongous project plan away in
your desk drawer.)
• Focus on the ONE thing you have to do today. Only that. Remember
that small steps add up to big giant ones. So, do just a small step today.
And then another tomorrow. And another one again the next day. You’ll
be amazed where you’ll be by end of the week.

9. Oh boy.
Are you having to do something in which you’re not even
the slightest bit interested?
Or maybe, you’ve come to the least sexy, most boring part
of your project?
secondbreaks.com
10. Assuming you cannot delegate the project away, here are
quick things you can do if this is the case:
• Can you buddy up with someone and do the activity/project together?
• If you can’t do it it with someone, can you discuss the activity with
someone or with a small team? Just talking about it may be enough to
get the juices flowing so you can get to work.
• Can you change it up a little to give it the oomph it may be lacking? For
example, if you’re having to write a long report, consider doing an
interesting powerpoint slide instead.

12. Did you like cramming in school?
Are you one of those people who gets pumped when
faced with tight deadlines?
Are you procrastinating because you’re feeling the lack of
urgency?
secondbreaks.com
13. Quick things you can do if this is the case:
• Create the effect and give yourself tighter and stricter deadlines.
• Find an accountability partner and tell him/her about your deadlines. See
if you can have daily or weekly calls (whatever makes sense for the
activity that you’re doing) to re-enforce the ‘pressure’ of being
answerable to someone about your actions.
• Don’t fret that you’re having to do this, nor lament about your inability to
enjoy ‘the long lead time’.You have to honor your nature, and if this is
how you roll, then this is how your roll.
secondbreaks.com
15. Are you delaying the work because you’re secretly afraid of
something?
Afraid of messing it up? Or looking like a fool?
Or maybe you’re afraid it’ll be a huge success, then what
are you going to do with your life?!
secondbreaks.com
16. Quick things you can do if this is the case:
• Yoda said:“Named must your fear be before banish it you can.”
Acknowledge it. Nod at it and give it a name.
• Do you have a mentor or a coach who can help you suss out your
thoughts around this fear? If you don’t have a mentor/coach, go get
coffee with a trusted friend and talk about your fear.
• Listen to inspiring/motivating talks or podcasts around the topic that
concerns you most.Write down your thoughts. Pinpoint what’s triggering
it.Ask yourself the question “So, what’s the worst thing that could
happen, really?”

18. Honesty time!
Are you just being plain lazy about it?
secondbreaks.com
19. It happens to everyone. And hey, you deserve to be lazy-
bones from time to time.
Enjoy the book, or the series you’re binge-watching on
Netflix, or the friends you decided to hang out with.
And when you’re done, go back fully indulged and get to it!
