5s is a workplace organization method consisting of five Japanese words: seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, and shitsuke. Seiri involves sorting items into required and non-required. Seiton means setting items in proper order for easy retrieval. Seiso is thorough cleaning to ensure everything is returned to a "nearly new" status. Seiketsu derives from seiso and means standardized cleanup to set the standard for cleanliness. Shitsuke is the final step and means "sustain" or maintaining sustained discipline.
