The goals is to introduce students new vocabulary words, identify characters by doing internet research. Work with student in group to help with time line events alphabetically, scavenger hunt around the time-line.
Driving Question: Write a scenario that will engage students in an active, inquiry-based pursuit of solutions to a relevant problem. How will the problem question motivate students to a deeper understanding of the key concepts in the unit and drive instruction? Students will use a photo album to help put events in order according to the beginning of the American Revolution.
Entry Event: Use inquiry questions that focus on the problem and extend beyond fact-finding to engage students. What was the reason for the revolution war.

- 1. Miyah Johnson @02336326 African American Inventors Lesson Plan 1: Know the Learner Grade: 2nd The Students: Diverse learning community of students from different backgrounds and cultures. Students are developing writing skills and rules of grammar and sentence structure. Students learn through various modalities (visual, auditory, kinesthetic). Students have knowledge of some inventions discussed prior to this lesson. 2: Articulate Objectives Students will identify one or more African American inventors. Students will write a brief report about an invention that affects their lives. 3: Establish the Learning Environment Essential Questions: How do different inventions help us everyday? Why are improvements to inventions important? The learning environment will promote exploration and critical thinking through the use of technology and various teaching strategies. Students will have the opportunity to relate the information to their personal lives. 4: Identifying Teaching and Learning Strategies This lesson is part of a unit on inventors. This unit focuses on inventions we use everyday. Prior to this lesson, students will already have knowledge of some inventions. I will use the PowerPoint as an introduction to the topic of African American inventors. Additionally, this PowerPoint will serve as a creative teaching tool that will enhance learning and help spark students’ interest in the topic. Students will use the Library of Congress American Memory online database to explore and learn more information about at least one invention. Students will primarily search for pictures of the inventions or inventors discussed in the PowerPoint presentation or other inventions. Students can work independently or in pairs at the computers. The teacher will show students how to use the database and provide additional assistance if needed. Students will have an opportunity to print out pictures they find. Lastly, students will complete a mini-report to assess their learning. The teacher will guide and provide students with support and assistance for this activity. Teaching Strategies: Collaboration: Students will work in pairs or independently when using the American Memory database. Students can collaborate with each other when exploring and learning about various inventions for their reports. Some students may choose the same invention and will have the opportunity to share ideas. Discussion: Together the class will discuss why inventions and improvements to inventions are important.
