This is a lesson plan that was developed for a 4th grade class in the content area of Social Studies. It is asking the students to work together in either partnerships or trio groups to investigate and develop a better understanding of the Chinese culture. The students will implement mobile devices to help them in the investigating and creative process. The students will document their journey of investigation through the use of journals ad digital diagrams. They will then develop a final presentation utilizing web 2.0 tools that will highlight their findings. Finally, the students will present their presentations to their classmates.

4. Introduction:
In this lesson students will read/listen to an article regarding
Chinese Culture in a whole group setting.

The students will then be placed in trio groups to work on
compiling information regarding the similarities and
differences of Chinese culture and their own. At the
completion of this lesson students will put together a Prezi
presentation that will be viewed on the Smart board by the
entire class.
Students will use either laptops or iPads to complete this
assignment.
5. Learning Objectives:
As a result of this lesson students will:
Be able to describe some of the various traditions that are in China.
Be able to compare the similarities and differences of their culture and those of
China.
Be able to research information about China by using the internet.
6. Prior knowledge:
Teacher will lead a discussion with the whole group reviewing the
culture that they live in and the traditions that they have.
7. Present New Content:
The students will be asked to record in their journals any cultural traditions or
ideas that they believe exist in China. Teacher will also record the ideas and
suggestions on a file that will be saved on the smart board.
Teacher will present students with article to listen to as a whole group through
the internet and then will be supplied with the web address to then view the
article in their groups.
8. Independent Learning Experience: Activities
In groups, students will use the internet to investigate the Chinese culture.
Students will use web search engines.
Students will develop a virtual Venn diagram on www.readwritethink.com and
the students will then print them after developing.
Students will develop a Prezi presentation that will then be presented to the
whole group at the close of the assignment.
Students will record the websites they investigated and their findings in their
journals.
9. Feedback:
Teacher will circulate the classroom as students are working in
groups providing feedback.
Assessment:
The journal of the sites visited and information found will
be reviewed and scored using a short rubric.
The final presentation will be scored formally using a rubric
that will be distributed to the students prior to their work
beginning on the project.
10. Management of Technology:
• Students will return either iPads or PC’s to cart.
• Each mobile device will be placed in the correct slot with the number on the slot
correlating with the number on the device.
• The cart will then be closed and locked daily by the classroom teacher.
• The cart will be plugged in daily so that all devices may be fully charged for
their next session.
