The document discusses applying the auteur theory to cinematographer Newton Thomas Sigel. It analyzes Sigel's work, including his transition from film to digital cameras. It provides a micro analysis of Sigel's cinematography in the first chapter of the film "Cherry" where he used specific lenses to create a sense of magical realism. While Sigel adapts his style to each project, his use of instincts to authentically portray the story suggests the auteur theory could apply to him as it does to directors.
The document is a production diary for a mobile app project over 3 weeks. In week 1, the student was unable to use Adobe XD as planned and focused on designing app pages instead. They completed most of a map page. In week 2, the student experimented with Adobe XD and redesigned the app logo page based on difficulties tracing an image. They started adding details to the logo and continued the map page. In week 3, the student completed a loading screen page quickly as it closely followed their original plan. They want to add animation to the loading screen later.
The project involved creating a concept for a Harry Potter-themed mobile app that would help promote tourism in York to audiences aged 17-24. The outcome was an app design created in Adobe XD that resembled the Marauder's Map from Harry Potter. Some challenges included illustration complications that required redesigning elements, and difficulty developing an achievable concept within the time frame. Overall, the project turned out as envisioned with a visually pleasing aesthetic that linked Harry Potter and York. Learning points included managing expectations and allowing time for additional planned elements.
This proposal outlines a project to create a digital Harry Potter-themed tour guide of locations in York, targeted at 18-24 year olds. The guide would be inspired by the Marauder's Map from the Harry Potter stories and allow users to take photos at locations to collect points and earn discounts on attractions. Key aspects of the project include researching Harry Potter and York references to include, drawing an accurate map of York, and evaluating the outcomes through a production reflections log.
This document outlines the planning and research for an app called "Marauder" that is intended to attract Harry Potter fans ages 17-24 to visit York, England. The app would be inspired by the Marauder's Map from the Harry Potter stories and function as a tour guide. It would use augmented reality to overlay locations from the stories on views of real places in York. The document discusses researching demographics, games like Pokémon Go that blend digital and real worlds, and the conventions of mobile apps to inform the design of "Marauder".
The document describes concepts for a Harry Potter themed app that would function like the Marauder's Map from the books. It would include pages for the app logo, title screen upon opening, a loading screen, an options menu to select the map or photo upload pages, the map itself showing tourist locations in York linked to Harry Potter characters or themes, example information pages for each location, and a photo upload page. The app aims to be educational and fun for Harry Potter fans by connecting real world places to the fictional world.

THE SACRIFICE HOW PRO-PALESTINE PROTESTS STUDENTS ARE SACRIFICING TO CHANGE T...indexPub
The recent surge in pro-Palestine student activism has prompted significant responses from universities, ranging from negotiations and divestment commitments to increased transparency about investments in companies supporting the war on Gaza. This activism has led to the cessation of student encampments but also highlighted the substantial sacrifices made by students, including academic disruptions and personal risks. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.
3. Research
Strengths:
• Existing products – a message from McLaren, gave me a chance to research products that I
wanted to create myself, gave me a chance to study a creator that I enjoy watching. It
helped me gather idea of what shots I wanted to create. This was the first product I looked
at that was in a showreel style so the music was useful to listen to so that I could get an idea
of what music I wanted behind my own piece. I liked how they include commentary in the
video and I took inspiration of that by adding train sounds to my own production. Finally it
gave me and idea of a colour scheme created throughout the whole production which was
orange and grey dull colours. It made every shot fit together well. I think they main aspect I
took from the product was the speed of each shot. When I looked at previous production,
there were showreels that included all slow motion shot, all fast motion shot or all normal
motion shots and some had all of them. I was confused on what effect it would have if I
didn’t include a certain motion shot or if I included too much of a particular motion shot.
the message from McLaren product was useful in showing that to build tension, it is all
about the music behind it instead of the motion of the shot.
Research in type of shots I
wanted to create with color
scheme, aperture and editing
4. Research
• Existing products – with the portrait photography, it gave me a idea of the
difference between god quality portraits and ones that could easily replaceable.
The artists I researched played a key part in location inspiration. Before my
research I was very blinded in knowing what colour themes looked good and most
aesthetically pleasing but when looking at my artists, it broadened my ideas for
the possibility of doing series photography, film photography and graphic
photography. This gave me inspiration to not just get my subjects to stand straight
on towards a camera against a plain background. The research gave me inspiration
of different poses, different lighting types, what will stand out and what wouldn’t.
When was researching concert photography, I learned that there were different
types of concert photograph looks depending on cameras, lighting and the type of
music you were photographing. I looked at photographers and photos that are
similar in what I could create and wanted to create. I also tried to stayed in the
same music genre to what I would be photographing which because very useful for
me in terms of editing and which photos I choose to use in my final portfolio.

5. Research
Weakness:
• Audience research - I feel like my audience is too broad and
not specific enough to apply to a certain group of pope
which made the research feel unnecessary to me. if I went
into deeper research about each different specific sub
subject then it would have been more useful. With my
showreel, I was looking at existing products that were
aimed for a specific group as they were advertising
products, so I was looking at their target audience, not
mine. I would have liked to look more at the audience I
would be producing for in concert photography, however I
remember finding it difficult due to the products differed
depending on the audience watching the performer.
6. Aesthetic Qualities
I feel like my portfolio is everything I wanted it to look like, I got to experiment with
different editing styles, locations, types of photography. I feel like they all look
visually pleasing, and the photos all are edited well. When I was looking at how the
photos wanted to look, I usually looked for one prominent color and then worked
around that. The photos that didn’t have a prominent color I edited to make them
brighter and have a cooler tone. All the photos worked well together as a series. One
thing. I particularly like about my product is that there's a range of subjects and
themes and its not focused on one subject (e.g. concerts, landscapes, portraits etc.).
With my showreel I am happy with how each shot individually looked and the
Motion of each shot however I feel like they don’t all go together. They are visually
aesthetic shots and look good by themself but the order I've put them together make
no sense. I feel like if I planned this part in planning better and created a more direct
shot list then I wouldn’t have the problem could have been avoided.
7. Aesthetic qualities
• I am very please how these portrait photos have
been taken and edited as I feel like they go
extremely well together and look good by
themselves as well. When I edited my first photo
that I wanted to include in my portfolio, the
temperature was edited to a cool tone blue. After
editing that photo, in the majority of my worked, I
edited also to be in a cool tone blue for 2 reasons.
one reason was so that they could all go together
and look visually pleasing when look at them as
one. The second reason was when I was trying to
find my editing style, I notice I preferred the
colors that the cool temperature brought out
rather than the warm temperature. It made the
white background look less grey and the yellow
colors look less dull. I also felt like if I was using a
walm temperature them I would increate the
saturation by a lot which is not something I
wanted to do when I was planning and
researching.
8. Aesthetic qualities
• These are the photos I chose to edit
with a warm temperature. I chose to
edit the photos like this as they had
lots of yellow that was prominent,
so I wanted to enhance that as
much as possible. Comparing the to
the cool toned images, these have a
lot more color and are lot more
vibrant. I am very happy with how
these photos turned out and think
that they look good together. The
images are high quality and show
different strengths.
9. Aesthetic qualities
• I am very please at how my concert photos
turned out. If I could do anything different it
would have been that is use my Sony a6k
camera which would have increased the
quality of the image, but it was not allowed in
the venues. I am still happy with the colors I
manage to achieved from the photos and the
moments I had captured. My main aim when
editing the photos was to increase the natural
lighting that was being projected on the artist
to make it as vibrant as possible. I think that I
achieved that and mas the images stand out. I
think my concert photos accurately represent
my research. Had done which I looked at
when looking for aesthetically visuals. I also
think the photos accurately represent the
genre they are singing. For example, the artist
who sings indie/alt music has a lot more
softer colors compared to the pop music
artist. In the future I would like to get more
pictures of the band to go along with the
artist and a closer detailed image on the
artists face or clothing.
Pop music Indie/ alt

10. Time Management
• Time managed well in the initial ideas stage, pre production and
production however in the research stage I fell behind. This made me feel
like I wasn’t taking as much inspiration and feedback from my target
audience. In this project I felt like I managed my time the best as have
done a year of projects now. I also feel like that my production was done in
a good timeframe due to good organising in shoot days and concerts.
However with my production from my showreel I feel like I could have use
some extra time to achieved more footage that I wanted to get but
couldn’t. I have managed to hand everything within the the completed
date however I to manage this have not been able to do the best work
possible and only achieve a pass on certain subjects.
11. Planning
Weakness:
• Visual panning – with my visual planning, I felt like I hardly followed it as I
feel like I didn’t spend as much time I wanted to on it, I preferred to pick a
location and see what I could film there. I definitely need a strong story
board as it effected my end product later in post production. My shots
were all visual pleasing but when put together, they didn't have a
structure which I could have achieve if I put together some strong visual
planning. The images ticked are the only images I managed to achieve and
everything else was not included. I think if I followed the story board, I
would have gotten more footage to edit and It would follow a strongr
structure.
12. Planning
• I think my organizational planning was very help to me as it gave me
a guide of shooting/editing timetable and who was available to help
model. I felt like It made my set up easier and my dates for my
concerts easier to plan. It gave e a solid timetable to follow. It made
the overall process of over production achievable in a shorter
amount of time.
• When I was planning for props and costumes, it gave me time to
buy and order any extra bits needed for the photos and gave me a
chance to transfer equipment to specific locations.
• In location planning, for the concert photos it gave me an idea of
how big the venues are and how long I would be queuing for t get
the best possible product form it.
• Overall my planning was very useful into have an officiant project
and led me to organized and focused in my production phase
13. Technical Qualities
Similarities:
• Both in black and white
• Both show the main artist in centre stage singing
• Both use lighting to play a key role in the image.
• Both taken from an audience point of view
Differences:
• The image used in research, the light is being
produced from the front/side of the stage
making the background darker and the singer
lighter as my image the lighting is produced
from behind the singer making the front of him
darker and the background lighter
• The researched image shows smoke as mine has
décor in the background.
Similarities:
• Both are set in the car
• Both has a blurred background
• Both show the car interior
• Both have one subject as the main
focus
• Both show similar main colours
Differences:
• One shows the front of the person
and features as the other shows the
back with no focus on the subject.
• The researched image is taken while
driving as mine is taken while the car
is still.

14. Technical Qualities
• I think that a good technical quality in of my showreel is the
length of the clips I used and how long my showreel was.
When looking at other showreels they are between 45
seconds -1 minute long which is something I achieved. This
is so that they can keep it interesting. They also keep each
clip only few seconds long so they can include as much
footage as possible within such a small time frame. Another
technical quality that is shown in showreels is editing shots
in time with the music. This is something I can say I did very
well and I felt like I chose my music according. I was
worried about picking a too fast past song where I would
have to get ridiculous amount of footage to fill in the my
time line as well as the shots being to shots for any motion
to happen. I felt like I avoided that problem which I saw in
existing products.
15. Audience Appeal
• Concert photos – my target audience is aim towards 13-24yr old's
as they are most likely to attend the artist I photographed. I feel
like my photos have would appeal to them as they show the
atmosphere that was created in the room. In my research when I
looked at my audience, I realized I had to focus on who the artists
audience and the genre audience rather than the photography's
audience. This then went into further research of the types of
photos that will appeal to the audience based of those
dependents.
One image is used of a pop artist with
the same target audience used as the
pop artist I took photos of. Both photos
focus on the stage lighting and making
them and prominent as possible as pop
music is all about putting of a show. In
pop music, the themes they sing about
include lots of strong different emotions
and the artists use the lighting to project
that in their live performances.
16. Audience Appeal
• Portrait photos – portrait photos appeal to friends and
family, children and people celebrating occasions so that
attracts all age groups and allows my audience to be
extremely broad. As long as my images show good high
quality picture that can be taken in multiple location to
show a range of different photos then it will appeal to my
specific audience.
• Showreel – my showreel is aimed to show what I can do
with a camera to either show advertising and marketing or
film making. I feel like my project lacked the shots to
appeal for film makers as there was little cinematic shots
in it. This was due to the time frame and ability with
equipment.
18. Feedback 1 – Faith Ajaib
(art media student)
• Name one positive and negative of my photography
– Really liked the editing of the photos and think they are high
quality.
– Have a more inclusive range of models and not stick to one
gender
• Name a positive and negative of my concert photography
– They liked how the attention was brought to one subject
– The quality of the photos aren’t as good as the portraits
• Name a positive and negative of my showreel
– The lens used to get attention to certain details and the fact that
some slips were in slow motion
– Change the range of clips uses as they are similar to one
another
19. Feedback 1 – Iona downing
(film, English, drama student)
• Name one positive and negative of my photography
– The brightness of colours and how they all look together and
quality of the image
– Not enough landscape photography so you can show different
editing styles.
• Name a positive and negative of my concert photography
– I liked how you got different lighting colours in every photo
– Wanted to see different angles of the same shows
• Name a positive and negative of my showreel
– It stayed to the brief with just a series of clips together moving
at the beat of the music
– Used the photos from your photography to fill in gaps
20. Feedback 1 – Olivia Winfield
(art sociology and biology student)
• Name one positive and negative of my photography
– Likes the portraiture images as they show details of the models.
– Some images were similar to one another, would have liked to
see a range of different portraits in different locations.
• Name a positive and negative of my concert photography
– The colours and lighting of the subject as it showed the
atmosphere created in the room
– Not being able to see details in the faces or outfits of the artist
• Name a positive and negative of my showreel
– The quality of each shot was high and they all were edited on
time with the music
– Doesn’t follow a story line
21. Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer feedback?
– I feel like every positive and negative I was given I could
understand where they could were coming from. I could
understand the negatives as throughout my feedback I have
commented on most of the points. I feel like the overall
feedback I got was all things I was aware of and would change
myself. I was pleased with the positives and I also thought most
of them were my strong points in my project
• What do you disagree with from your peer feedback?
– The only thing I would disagree with was my showreel not
following a storyline as most showreels do not. I agree in the
aspect of my the clips not linking but my project was not
suppose to follow someone of something journey.
22. Peer Feedback Summary
I think some main changes I would make in for my project would be:
- To organise a photography permit and email small artists
management so I could photograph them with a higher quality
camera as there is a ban on professional camera in venues without a
permit.
- I think I would try film some more footage instead of using my photos
so that the showreel could be more full as well as broadening some of
the shots as I felt like a lot of the were very similar.
- With my portrait photos I would shoot in more locations and different
lights. I wish I had done some photos with a projector which was in
my planning.
