The photographer took a series of 10 photos of a model portraying her as a musician. They aimed to create a cohesive black and white theme with contrast and drama. The first photo included a skull overlay to portray her as an artist. Subsequent photos showed her playing piano, relaxing on piano, and with curtains or other band members. The photographer used slow shutter speeds and edited photos in post-production to increase brightness, contrast and vibrancy. They felt the photos could have better portrayed the fun and musical aspects of the subject.

Theme or focus of image & reasons for choice
With my images I tried to create a coherent theme throughout, using a high
contrasted black and white and creating a quirky and interesting concept to try and
make it look professional and like my model is actually a famous musician.
My first image is a close up of the models face, I have added a faint half skull to the
face as a statement image almost like an album cover and the skull is known for
being her sign and also to make the image more striking. I took the picture from a
straight on shot; I did this so I could get the models eyes looking straight into the
camera and everything even to create a more dramatic image. To edit my picture I
made it black and white and then increased the contrast and brightness.
My second image is of the model playing the piano; I took the picture from a high
angle and asked her to look up to engage with the camera more. I needed the shots
to relate to music more so adding this one in so it gives the audience, that don’t know
who she is, an idea of what she’s about. I edited my image just by enhancing the
brightness and contrast to make the image more striking and vibrant, also adding
dark lips into the image so they look different to the others.
My third image is a shot of the model sat on top of the piano looking at the camera, I
wanted her to look relaxing and even ‘cool’ and really to connect with the camera
in order to relate to the audience also. I edited this image simply the same as the
others.
Moving onto my fourth image which we see the model sat looking away from the
camera, we did this to bring a different twist to the pictures and so that they could
see different sides and emotions. I edited the image the same as I did on my other
images but added a cast that washes other the image.

2. In my 5th image I tried to incorporate a big silk draping curtain into the shot, we had
her doing different poses and found this one whilst she’s peering out from behind it
creating a sort of drama to the image. This image I also added a cast over the stop
and edited the lips for a more vivid look.
The 6th image I wanted to create a very symmetrical and clean looking image. Not
too much going on all at once, but simply just to highlight the Lowry theatre. I’ve
included the posters of plays showing at the Lowry in order to show the different
variety’s they create. I enhanced all of the colours to make the key features stand
out and heighten the colourful theme I have running through my images.
My 7th image is one of the model laughing and almost dancing around with the
curtain, again bringing different emotions to my images, and creating a real and
genuine fun image that the audience can connect with more. I brightened this
image up and added a cast and didn’t want to edit too much as I didn’t want the
image to become too busy.
The 8th image I wanted to bring in other members, maybe band members etc. but to
make the group of images more interesting and different, this is simply turned black
and white and increased brightness and contrast. I wanted this one to look dramatic
and for the audience to wonder wants happening.
In my 9th image is very similar But they are laughing and happy showing the
audience the relationship between them. I’ve not distracted from this by forming a
colourful effect anywhere on the image, but brought up the contrast of the image
and the sharpness to make the image look bright and crisp.
My final images are ones of the model on her own looking serious again bringing
different aspects to the set of images. The first one is different to the others whilst a
slight hint of colour because I wanted a different but not too bright and colourful not
the take away from the model. The last one has eye contact with the camera and id
very striking showing off her long hair and also a bright light behind her to make the
image more interesting and create better lighting for the image.

3. Techniques used
I often slowed down the shutter speed in order to let more light through to capture a
bright image, which I could then add contrast too whilst editing.
Strengths & suggested improvements
I think that my images could have been more fun and musical to show the audience
what she does.
