Hello and welcome to my pod cast where I’m going to discuss the similarities and
differences of Disney’s peter pan to the Once upon a time’s version.
We start with the use of Magic. We see in the Disney’s version the use of magical
symbols, rainbows and sunshine. They use it for good magic, fairies and mermaids and
happy magic. When a child is taken to Neverland, they never grow up and embark upon
adventures and sword fight with pirates, live in tree houses. The Disney peter pan
includes every child’s dreams all on one island. They can choose to leave and grow up.
But why would you?
In the Once upon a time version, the music is Dark and dangerous. The island they get
stranded on is ruled by Peter pan who in the Disney version is fun, caring and cunning
and likes games were as in the Darker version Pan is a villain, he likes playing games but
life or death games but peter pan in the Disney version does it for the fun not life or
death.
The use of the Pan pipes is significantly different in both versions. In Disney’s version it
is just light entertainment, a nice tune but in the dark version Pan uses it to bewitch and
become the pied piper and drive the children away from their homes.
The main characters are the same in both Hook and Peter Pan except they have
different characters.
Disney’s character of Peter pan is adventurous, cunning, playful, fun but prone to
bosting which is one of the only links he has to the Once upon a time version of Peter
pan.
Disney’s Peter pan is light and magical, entrancing but the Once upon a Time version
Peter is Dark yet still cunning and adventurous like the Disney version.
Hook is a villain in both yet different stories. Disney’s hook is a bit cowardly and not
very smart yet can still be feared. He is always wanting to top peter pan in everything
but he keeps losing to him and is determined to beat him.
The once upon a time Hook is the dashing, loveable rouge. He is smart but still not to be
trusted. He is cautious of Peter Pan as it’s hard to detect when Peter is playing games
with them or if he’s tricking them. He is loyal to anyone that gives him the best price and
the most thrill.
Now comes the decider… Which is the best? The truth is, they are both great but
personally I prefer the happy, good magic of Disney’s Peter Pan.
Remember: Laughter is timeless, imagination has no age, dreams are forever.
