1. It’s fixated on “Health”
The Truth?
Health is only one (weak) contributor to core business
objectives (revenue growth/cost control)*
Instead:
Develop a holistic wellbeing program that includes all
aspects of wellbeing (e.g. social & community)
*applies to Australia and New Zealand
2. It Produces Irrelevant Data
The Truth?
Metrics such as ‘steps walked’, ‘cholesterol levels’ or

  • 3. The Truth? Health is only one (weak) contributor to core business objectives (revenue growth/cost control)* Instead: Develop a holistic wellbeing program that includes all aspects of wellbeing (e.g. social & community) *applies to Australia and New Zealand
  • 4. 2. It Produces Irrelevant Data
  • 5. The Truth? Metrics such as ‘steps walked’, ‘cholesterol levels’ or ‘helpfulness of program’ do not relate to core business objectives Instead: Run programs that produce useful, comparable data such as identification of key talent and leaders and workplace culture metrics
  • 6. 3. It’s Not Fun (& Not Priority)
  • 7. The Truth? Participation in traditional ‘health and wellness’ programs is very low (expect less than 50% of staff to participate in screening procedures, less than 10% in interventional programs [RAND 2013}) Instead: Tie ‘health’ programs to ‘performance, recognition, collaboration and promotion’ (the things employees really care about). And make it fun.
