The audience for the media product would be teenagers and young adults aged 16-24 interested in alternative rock music. The target audience would include people from various cultural backgrounds who share an interest in alternative rock, helping counter stereotypes. Both males and females from working and middle class backgrounds would be targeted.
The author would attract this audience by following evidence from a questionnaire indicating black and red was the most popular color scheme, and by featuring alternative rock bands in cover lines to appeal to shared musical interests.
1. 4. WHO WOULD THE
AUDIENCE BE FOR YOUR
MEDIA PRODUCT?
The audience for my media product would be teenagers and
young adults aged 16-24, who have an interest in alternative
rock music. My media product is aimed at people within these
standards who like to enjoy alternative rock without being
stereotyped.
My audience would involve many different people from a vast
variety of cultural backgrounds who all share a similar interest
in alternative rock. This would help to counter the stereotypes
commonly associated with alternative rock and other sub
genres of rock, and would make my magazine unique, which in
turn would appeal to a wider target audience.
The gender of my target audience would be both males and
females, as my magazine is not meant to discriminate between
gender. My target audience would also typically be aimed at the
working and middle classes.
2. 5) HOW DID YOU
ATTRACT/ADDRESS
YOUR AUDIENCE?
I attract my audience by following the evidence I obtained in
my questionnaire that I created. For example, I received
evidence that black and red was the most popular colour
scheme for an alternative rock magazine. This allowed me to
use this colour scheme dominantly in my magazine design,
which lets me appeal to those within my target audience. I
also appeal to different ethnicities by having ethnic diversity
within my magazine.
I also address my audience by featuring alternative rock
bands in my magazine within the cover lines I have used.
This helps as it adds a common interest that many people
share to my magazine , which will address the audience by
using their favourite colours and bands in the magazine.
3. 6. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED
ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES FROM
THE PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THIS PRODUCT?
During the process of creating this product, I have learned
many valuable techniques. The most notable of these
techniques is using Adobe Photoshop, which I have become
very good at and am now confident at using. I can modify
images with this software and create front covers, modifying
the colours and clustering pictures together in order to
create a sophisticated magazine front cover and contents
page.
I also learned how to take pictures professionally. This has
been a valuable skill as it has improved the quality of the
images used for my magazine.
I have used Facebook to arrange the times for the actors in
my magazine to attend the photo session. This has
demonstrated how I can organize things through technology.
4. 7. LOOKING BACK AT YOUR
PRELIMINARY TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL
YOU HAVE LEARNT IN THE
PROGRESSION FROM IT TO THE FULL
PRODUCT?
I feel that I have learned how to be more creative, as well as
become more organisational. Using different websites such
as Prezi and SlideShare have improved my organisational
skills, and using Photoshop has made me more creative. I
have learned how to maintain a Blog, and keep my posts
updated.
Also, I feel as though I have gained a greater insight into my
chosen genre of music. I did not know this much about
alternative rock before, and creating a magazine of this
subgenre has helped me to understand alternative rock even
more than I did at the start of the preliminary task.
