This document summarizes water quality data from 3 rivers in northeast Wisconsin collected by citizen volunteers over 3 years. It finds that nitrate levels in the Kewaunee River source have tripled in the last 15-50 years and exceed impairment limits. Total phosphorus in the Kewaunee River mouth increased 20% compared to 2000-2002 levels. Concentrations of nitrates, total phosphorus, E. coli correlated strongly with 5-day prior rainfall amounts, indicating runoff and soil erosion effects. The data suggest the Kewaunee and East Twin rivers are impaired by high nutrient and bacteria levels while the Ahnapee River is less impaired.
