Virginia Woolf was born in 1882 in London and was homeschooled due to several panic attacks from a young age. She experienced abuse from her stepbrothers as a child and had a nervous breakdown at age 12. Both of her parents died when she was a teenager, leaving her without parents. As an adult, Woolf traveled extensively for her writing and published several famous modernist novels and essays. She struggled with mental illness throughout her life and ultimately died by drowning herself in 1941 at the age of 59 to escape another panic attack.
