This document summarizes pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) and their role in controlling inflammatory responses. It discusses the four major classes of PRRs - Toll-like receptors (TLRs), RIG-I-like receptors (RLRs), NOD-like receptors (NLRs), and C-type lectin receptors (CLRs). TLRs recognize pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs). TLR signaling activates transcription of inflammatory genes. Aberrant PRR activation can lead to immunodeficiency, septic shock, or autoimmunity.
