SWCNT Growth from Chiral and Achiral Carbon Nanorings: Prediction of Chiralit...Stephan Irle
Catalyst-free, chirality-controlled growth of chiral and achiral single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) from organic precursors is demonstrated using quantum chemical simulations [1]. Growth of (4,3), (6,5), (6,1), (10,1), (6,6) and (8,0) SWCNTs was induced by ethynyl radical (C2H) addition to organic precursors. These simulations show a strong dependence of the SWCNT growth rate on the chiral angle, θ. The SWCNT diameter however does not influence the SWCNT growth rate under these conditions. This agreement with a previously proposed screw-dislocation-like model of transition metal-catalyzed SWCNT growth rates [2] indicates that the SWCNT growth rate is an intrinsic property of the SWCNT edge itself. Conversely, we predict that the rate of local SWCNT growth via Diels-Alder cycloaddition of C2H2 is strongly influenced by the diameter of the SWCNT. We therefore predict the existence of a maximum local growth rate for an optimum diameter/chirality combination at a given C2H/C2H2 ratio. We also find that the ability of a SWCNT to avoid defect formation during growth is an intrinsic quality of the SWCNT edge.

Potential Alleviation of Chlorella vulgaris and Zingiber officinale on Lead-I...Prof. Hesham N. Mustafa
Natural products were studied to combat reproductive alterations of lead. The current work
aimed to disclose the efficacy of Chlorella vulgaris and Zingiber officinale to alleviate lead
acetate induced toxicity. Sixty adult male Wistar rats were distributed into four groups.
Group 1 was considered control, group 2 received 200 mg/l PbAc water, group 3 received 50
mg/kg/rat of C. vulgaris extract and 200 mg/l PbAc water, and group 4 received 100
mg/kg/rat of Z. officinale and 200 mg/l PbAc water for 90 days. Testis samples were subjected
to ultrastructural examination. It was observed that PbAc caused degenerative alterations in
the spermatogenic series in many tubules, with a loss of germ cells and vacuoles inside the
cytoplasm and between the germ cells. Mitochondria exhibited ballooning, with lost cristae
and widening of the interstitial tissue, while nuclear envelopes of primary spermatocytes
were broken up, and axonemes of the mid-pieces of the sperms were distorted. With the
treatment with C. vulgaris or Z. officinale, there were noticeable improvements in these
modifications. It was concluded that both C. vulgaris and Z. officinale represent convincing
medicinal components that may be used to ameliorate testicular toxicity in those exposed to
lead in daily life with superior potentials revealed by C. vulgaris due to its chelating action.
Key words: Chlorella vulgaris, lead acetate, ultrastructure, Zingiber officinale.
Pilot test of new evaluation methodology of research organisationsMEYS, MŠMT in Czech
In 2015, the pilot test of a new evaluation methodology of research, development and innovation, in which twelve research organisations
active predominantly in two fields (Chemistry and History) participated, was carried out. Three main and nine subject panels, in which thirty-five
foreign and six local experts were present, prepared evaluation reports of thirty-one registered, field-specific research units. The feedback of the panellists and the institutions evaluated, which are useful for the preparation of a nationwide evaluation of research organisations in the Czech Republic, are the key output of the pilot test.
This report is one of the three Final reports of the study developing an evaluation methodology and institutional funding principles for the R&D system in the Czech Republic. It describes the methodology for the National Evaluation of Research Organisations (NERO) in the Czech Republic.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

34. Kvantita vs. Kvalita
Původně kvantita byla rozhodující
Nyní, oba aspekty jsou odměněny stejně:
2.5 M CZE rozděleno podle celkové produkce
2.5 M CZE rozděleno za významné publikace
Budoucnost - Sílící důraz na kvalitu

44. In the Concept of IOCB the age limit for
group leaders is 65 years of age, after
which the leader retires and the group is
dissolved.
I agree that this could be the default
position, but there should be an opportunity
for a reasonable exception.
Age limit
45. Initiative and motivation from the group
leader
Evaluation of trend in scientific productivity
of the group in the preceding 5 years.
Need to impress and convince IAB
(presentation and evaluation)
Overcoming age limit
46. A. The leader and his group do excellent first-class
science and closing them down at this stage would be a
great loss to the world science and IOCB. We recommend
continuation for additional 3-5 years.
B. Although this group does a decent science, weighing
the 2 scenarios:
a) keeping this group in existence even after reaching the
age limit, versus
b) an opportunity to open one or two new junior groups and
bringing new areas of science in its place,
we believe the option b) is in the long-term interest of
IOCB
