This is the first post in my series about the new features in Windows Server 2008 R2. As in my series about the new features of Windows 7, I will update the articles when I learn about new features. I will discuss some of the new features in more detail soon. Essentially, the term "virtualization" covers three different technologies in Windows Server 2008 R2: Server Virtualization, Desktop Virtualization, and Presentation Virtualization. Server Virtualization is based on Hyper-V 2.0, which will get quite a few interesting new features. The virtualization technology ehind Desktop virtualization, i.e., Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), is also Hyper-V. This is probably the most important new feature in Windows Server 2008 R2. Presentation Virtualization is nothing but the good old Terminal Server. Technically, I find it a bit odd to use the term "virtualization" in this context, but from a marketer's point of view, it probably makes a lot of sense. Note that Microsoft renamed the "Terminal Services" as "Remote Desktop Services" in Windows Server 2008 R2.
VDI Choices - Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp or VDI in a Box?eG Innovations
A growing number of companies are virtualising desktop environments to reduce cost and boost flexibility. The dizzying array of available solutions can make the first step quite difficult - what virtualization technology is right for my organization? Citrix alone offers XenDesktop, XenApp and VDI in a box. While Citrix desktop virtualisation often seems like a simple project; user experience problems, delayed deployments, and cost overruns can quickly turn this project into a nightmare.
Join the webinar "Desktop Virtualisation Choices: Citrix XenDesktop, XenApp or VDI in a Box - How to Decide" and learn from UK Citrix desktop virtualization expert Andrew Wood (Gilwood CS Ltd) how to decide what virtualisation technology best fits your needs.
Hear how to determine what technology is right for you based on:
• Your goals for desktop virtualisation
• Number of users, applications, and profiles
• Existing infrastructure issues
• Cost of ownership vs. cost savings
• Performance and scalability considerations

That’s right…in a recent IDC report, they tell customers don’t “move” to the cloud, “embrace” it. They also tell customers, don’t even consider the cloud without an identity strategy. That’s where WorkloadIQ comes in. In this session you will learn how WorkloadIQ, Novell’s differentiated approach to intelligent workload management, will help you infuse identity and management into your environment. Come see how together Novell and VMware will allow you to not only embrace the cloud, but also ensure that it’s manageable, secure and compliant. This will include demonstrations of brand new WorkloadIQ products - Novell Cloud Security Service, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for VMware, Novell Identity Manager 4, and Novell Cloud Manager along with VMware technologies.
IBM Cloud software stack with self service, rapid provisioning and resource management, cataloging, image deployment and metering services. Starter kit for cloud provides key benefits sought by IT managers including responsive and reliable workload deployment and resources on demand to support Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)...
Did you know that 50 percent of desktop virtualization initiatives fail?
Most challenges are due to poor user satisfaction, poor performance and
escalating costs. With such an important initiative, you cannot afford to
take a 50/50 chance for success.
Join the webinar "VDI Best Practices - How to Ensure a Great
Customer Experience When Deploying Client Virtualization" to increase your odds of project success and
ensure user satisfaction from day one. You’ll learn from virtualization
expert Roy Francis of FusionStorm how to successfully deploy desktop
virtualization projects and overcome user problems.
Learn how to better prepare for your desktop virtualization initiative,
and then once deployed how to ensure a great user experience. We will
discuss:
• The pitfalls to avoid when implementing desktop virtualization
• Tips and tricks for overcoming user challenges
• Considerations for migrating to XenApp 6.5 and Windows 2008
• How to address performance and scalability concerns
Private cloud infrastructure configure and deploy
In collaboration with IEEE Computer Society, the Cloud Security Alliance and Dell, Microsoft is hosting a 24 Hours in a Private Cloud virtual event
You don’t have to embrace the Private Cloud to take advantage of the powerful tools in SC2012!
View C/D/H’s slide deck and learn how to enable an automated helpdesk solution with Service Manager, the Self-Service Portal, Orchestrator, Configuration Manager, and Operations Manager.
Let us help you automate simple, repetitive, but time consuming tasks so you can focus on strategic projects like operating system deployment, proactive monitoring, and standardization!
This IDC white paper highlights how IBM eX5 systems with MAX5 memory technology play a significant role in increasing the value of memory dense servers.

Virtual Appliances: Simplifying Application Deployment and Accelerating Your ...Novell
Virtual appliances are the wave of the future, declares IDC, because appliances dramatically simplify application deployment and accelerate the shift to cloud computing. Learn how the landmark strategic partnership between Novell and VMware is delivering innovative appliance versions of VMware products running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, and how it can help you move your applications to the cloud. See an exciting demonstration of Novell's award-winning SUSE Studio appliance construction tool, used by software vendors to build appliances in minutes for on-premise and cloud environments, and by enterprises to quickly create optimized Linux image builds. The session will also cover Novell's industry-leading lifecycle management capabilities for appliances. If you're a software vendor, you will leave this session with new ideas on how to simplify delivery of your software, perform appliance lifecycle management and extend your applications to the cloud. If you're an end-user organization, you will learn how to reduce the time spent creating and updating core OS images by 90 percent or more.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.
Threats to mobile devices are more prevalent and increasing in scope and complexity. Users of mobile devices desire to take full advantage of the features
available on those devices, but many of the features provide convenience and capability but sacrifice security. This best practices guide outlines steps the users can take to better protect personal devices and information.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:
