This document compares stand-alone and interconnected solar photovoltaic systems. Stand-alone systems are not connected to any other system and require batteries for energy storage. Interconnected systems are connected to the electrical grid and can use the grid for energy storage. The document defines key components like inverters, which convert DC to AC, and balance of system components. It also discusses sizing, interconnection agreements, advantages and disadvantages of each type of system.
Stand Alone or Off Grid type Solar Power Plant
Grid Tie type Solar Power Plant
Grid Tie with Power Backup or Grid Interactive type Solar Power Plant
Grid Fallback type Solar Power Plant.
Off grid solar power systems design is said to be complex. In this presentation, a simple design process is described: starting by load assessment, then moving to estimating array energy output; estimating array power and determining required number of modules as well as the size of other system components.
This presentation is adapted from a course delivered online by Mathy Mpassy Isinki. After ten years spent providing energy solutions in remote off grid locations, he describes himself as an off grid energy solutions business and technical sales professional; his goal is to share with you what he has learned the last ten years.
The aim of this paper to review the applications of photovoltaic panels in different areas in
different manner.Off grid, grid connected and hybrid method of application are most widely used.Depending
upon locations and requirement of power, they are used. The benefits of solar power is described here in brief.
INTRODUCTION
A lot of basic concepts, technologies and pioneering solutions aiming on very high power densities were mainly developed within the last 20 years. Sometimes this is denoted as the mechatronic system integration or simply as mechatronics. Besides many of the technical aspects, the movings within the value chain represent the great challenge in this process. This is because traditionally defined between electronic device and the power module manufacturers, electronics assemblers, and the metalworking industry will blur or slowly disappear. However, the pressure to go this path increases. If one thinks, e.g., about the hybrid drive as an upgrade option for conventional passenger cars, one is directly faced with the lack of construction space as one of the main serious problems (Alkuhayli et al., 2012).
Photovoltaic conversion of light to electricity has many applications. In tropical country like India, both the thermal and PV find plenty of applications.

A 100-kW PV array is connected to a 25-kV grid via a DC-DC boost converter and a three-phase three-level Voltage Source Converter (VSC). Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) is implemented in the boost converter by means of a Simulink® model using the 'Incremental Conductance + Integral Regulator' technique.
Another example (see PVArrayGridAverageModel model) uses average models for the DC_DC and VSC converters. In this average model the MPPT controller is based on the 'Perturb and Observe' technique.

CFD Simulation of By-pass Flow in a HRSG module by R&R Consult.pptxR&R Consult
CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.
It is always satisfying when we can help solve complex challenges like this. Do your systems also need a check-up or optimization? Give us a call!
Work done in cooperation with James Malloy and David Moelling from Tetra Engineering.

Immunizing Image Classifiers Against Localized Adversary Attacksgerogepatton
This paper addresses the vulnerability of deep learning models, particularly convolutional neural networks
(CNN)s, to adversarial attacks and presents a proactive training technique designed to counter them. We
introduce a novel volumization algorithm, which transforms 2D images into 3D volumetric representations.
When combined with 3D convolution and deep curriculum learning optimization (CLO), itsignificantly improves
the immunity of models against localized universal attacks by up to 40%. We evaluate our proposed approach
using contemporary CNN architectures and the modified Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR-10
and CIFAR-100) and ImageNet Large Scale Visual Recognition Challenge (ILSVRC12) datasets, showcasing
accuracy improvements over previous techniques. The results indicate that the combination of the volumetric
input and curriculum learning holds significant promise for mitigating adversarial attacks without necessitating
adversary training.

4. Stand-Alone vs Interconnected
Electrical grid
An electrical grid is an interconnected network for delivering AC
electricity from producers to consumers.
It consists of generating stations that produce electrical power and
high-voltage transmission lines carrying power from distant sources
to demand centers, and distribution lines connecting individual
customers.

5. Stand-Alone vs Interconnected
Inverter
An inverter changes DC (direct current) from a Solar array and/or
batteries into AC (Alternating current) that can be used convectional
AC loads.
Interactive and stand-alone inverters are NOT interchangeable and
should never be used on the opposite system.

6. Stand-Alone vs Interconnected
Interconnected
An interconnected PV system is connected directly to the utility grid
and uses it as an energy storage bank.
When more electricity is made than the house uses, a special meter
(net meter) will turn backwards and use the grid like a battery.
This is the most common system installed.
The interconnected inverter will shut down if the utility is down and
will not produce electricity. It’s the law. This prevents workers from
getting shocked.

Sizing
Generally dependent on the monthly or yearly electrical bill of the
household or business
Grid tied system
Size depends on the available unshaded space to put the system
and/or the amount of money available for the system purchase.

9. Stand-Alone vs Interconnected
Stand alone
They operate off-grid that are not connected to utility grid in any
way.
These systems can be stationary or mobile.
The stand-alone needs batteries or energy storage to continue to run
a load at night or on cloudy days.
