Airtex
Airtex Aviation Case Study AirTex Aviation 1. Did AirTex need a new control system at the time of
the takeover?
* The management system that was in place was one woman who magically kept everything in her
head. There was limited and almost incomprehensible formal system. Sarah Arthur, the company s
accountant, had complete autonomy over the company s information, and she kept this information
private. * AirTex was in need of a more formalized accounting system, since accounting was a
central department of the company, and profitability was a key measure to ensure the success of
the company at the time of the takeover. * Also, Ted and Frank had plans to dispose of Sarah

How Do Fuel Cells Work
How fuel cells work A fuel cell is a device that produces an electrical current through a chemical
reaction. All fuel cells contain a cathode and an anode, which are positive and negative electrodes,
respectively. The chemical reactions which produce electricity occur at the electrodes. Fuel cells
also contain an electrolyte, which carries electrically charged particles between the electrodes. A
catalyst also aids to speed up the chemical reaction at the electrodes. In fuel cells, an impurity
must serve as the electrolyte; if one uses distilled water for this experiment, it could serve only as
the control, because purified water does not contain any substances that react at the electrodes.
Some examples of impurities used as electrolytes in various types of fuel cells include... Show more

It consists of using hydrogen and hydroxyl ions to create electricity and end up with potable
water. This method very useful aboard spacecrafts allowing them to stay in space for a longer
amount of time because they can create their own water. The next most common type is molten
carbonate the electrolyte in this is carbonate salts. However this type of fuel cell tends to be
slightly less efficient due to the fact that they have to be melted before they can be used. Having a
liquid electrolyte can be difficult to handle and time consuming. It is however useful seeing as it
refreshes the electrolyte through every cycle.
The last form of fuel cells available is PEM (or Proton Exchange Membrane). The electrolyte for
this is a very thin polymer sheet. Unfortunately, this type can be extremely expensive because it is
required to have a platinum catalyst. A temperature of eighty degrees celsius must also be reached.
This fuel cell still resembles the basic form. It requires hydrogen atoms which have been striped
from their electrons, and the electrons pass through the exterior circuit, which creates electricity. At
the end, it meets with air to create

Girl In The Torch Analysis
The Girl in the Torch was written by Robert Sharenow and is a historical fiction book. This story
is taken place around the time when thousands of immigrants were arriving in the promised land
of New York City. The main character, Sarah (12 yrs old) always dreamed of America, a land of
freedom and possibility. Just when Sarah and her mother cross the Atlantic, her mom dies and
Sarah finds herself being sent back before she even sets foot in the country. She then makes a
life or death decision by jumping off the boat and stays in the crown of the Statue of Liberty.
When an unexpected ally helps bring her to the city, she finds a new family and along with that
also a new danger. With the help of her family in New York, Sarah finds a new life in Oklahoma.
The story concludes with Sarah s life 15 years later as a married woman with a boy who she
named after the man who gave her a new life. Sarah s personality and character changes
throughout the story. In the beginning she was very strong and determined. After consecutive
deaths of people close to her and after realizing she has no blood family, she feels abandoned and
hollow. As her life changes and she discovers family (even if they weren t blood related), she
becomes strong, courageous and kind. Her life soon becomes a roller coaster and Sarah s character
spirals. The story begins with Sarah living with her Mom and Dad in Russia during a pogrom. She
fears for her family as many people are being killed , but she gets more

Essay about Jonathan Swift
Jonathan Swift
In an age of where rationality and morals were held to the accepted values, Jonathan Swift stood
out as a champion of humanism. All his life he attacked pretense and begged people to see that
life is not always what it seems when you look harder and think deeper. In addition, Swift was
one of the most powerful writers of his time; able to rally people and nations around the caustic
and moral views expressed in his works. His political writings for the Tories exposed the
corruptions of government and paved the way for his acclaimed satires. Swift s great strength lied
in impressing people into believing his ideals without blatantly professing them or becoming
preachy. Swift was raised in Dublin, and was schooled well ... Show more content on

We do not merely agree with the moral evaluations implied; we have lived, in our imaginations,
through a moral experience (Williams 4). Swift doesn t simply tell us his beliefs; he makes the
reader sort it out through the context of the story. By placing his ideas and morals upon other
characters, Swift himself stands distant from these scenes he writes about. In doing so, he
artistically, yet implicitly, defines the interval between the normal and the absurd. We attain
normality by guarding against pride, and this we could do easily by observing the distorted figures
in comedy and satire (Quintana 39).
An example where Swift uses his satire in a crafty, implicit way is in one of his first major works,
A Tale of A Tub. The book is about exposing the corruption and abuses of religion at the time. In
section VI of the book, Swift takes the form of an earnest storyteller but in fact he is telling the
history of the major Christian Churches. The three main characters are obviously personas for the
three main churches at the time. There is Peter, who in truth represents the Roman Catholic
Church; Martin, who is named after the Protestant/Lutheran/Anglican Church; and Jack, who is
named after Calvinism and the other nonconformist Christian religions. Swift, as the narrator, is
asserting to be telling this story just like it happened, and not drawing any conclusions or seeing any

The Importance Of Conservation During The Progressive Era
Conservation was the most important reform, from this time period, since it worked towards
protecting the United State s physical environment which leads to obtaining the essential
resources of nature, preserving the naturality of the planet, and living a higher quality of life.
During the Progressive Era the Second Industrial Revolution was in action, sprouting new
technological advancements and ground breaking creations or processes. During this era, new
inventions were being made and big monopolies were increasing their use of natural resources to
a point where it was becoming harmful. One of the areas of resources that was becoming
alarmingly low was forests and lumber, leading to the Forest Reserve Act of 1891. This act,
which occurred during the conservation reform, allowed the president to choose forests of
interests and claim them as reserves, protecting them from being harmed or negatively affected
by big businesses. With the Forest Act many other acts protecting the Earth s resources sprung up
as well. All of the acts that were passed restricted important resources from being wasted and
blatantly used for company production areas. These acts, enlisted in terms of the government,
would allow the president to choose areas in which resources could always exist and couldn t be
overused. The areas chosen would include places with plentiful natural assets and a large range of
land. This early protection against the act of overharvesting, lead to people being able to

Compare And Contrast Virginia And New England Colonies
In the New World, various resources, climates, and considerable amounts of land allowed
numerous opportunities for settlers. Those who once yearned to climb the social ladder or gain
the freedoms bestowed from land ownership flocked toward the newfound settlements.
Colonization proved to be a grueling task; however, success was found after adapting to the new
environment and facing many hardships. Two colonies established early in the seventeenth
century included Virginia and New England. Both Virginia and New England were forerunning
settlements that differed in the following senses: political, social, and economical. Politically,
Virginia and New England differed in the basis of their governing systems. Virginia focused on
the desire of its individuals: (t)hat our governors by reason of the corruption of those times they
lived in, laid the foundation of our wealth and industry on the vices of men. This standard of
government was an early precursor to democracy and allowed Virginian s to feel the rights of
being freemen. New England, instead of basing their government on the individual desires of
man, governed the colony on the basis of Christianity. The New England settlers strongly
believed the spirit of God would deliver them and create greatness in the colony: the God of Israel
is among us, and ten of us shall be able to resist a thousand of our enemies. The Lord will make
our name a praise and glory. The colony wanted to be set above the rest, or in other words,

The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston
In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston crafts a fictitious memoir of her girlhood among
ghosts. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her
representation of Chinese American culture was contested by Asian American scholars and authors.
The Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston
integrates the value of storytelling in her memoir and relates it to dominant themes about silence,
cultural authenticity, and the cultivation of identity. Throughout her work, Kingston reaches a
variety of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by writing interpretations of her
mother, Brave Orchid s, talk story . Brave Orchid s talk story is a form... Show more content on

She considers that some man had commanded her to lie with him and be his secret evil. (Kingston
6). Kingston writes her initial version of the No Name Woman, who was raped, raided, and died an
outcast, but Kingston determines that this telling does not fit her understanding of China. Therefore,
Kingston entertains another hypothetical, that her aunt took a lover and saved him from shame by
giving silent birth and not revealing the lover s identity (Kingston 11). Here, Kingston critically
examines the inherited talk story of her mother to determine the meaning she should obtain from
the death of her aunt. Her mother s conclusion is that she must not become pregnant, but Kingston
is uncertain about the simplicity of her mother s story. In the No Name Woman, Kingston
introduces the fictitious memoir structure that she utilizes through the variety of interpretations of
her aunt s story. Consistently through the memoir, Kingston writes contrasting accounts of the
same stories and imagines the stories of others to further her themes about silence, authenticity, and
identity formation.
Kingston begins The Woman Warriorby writing a story which started with her mother insisting that
she must not tell anyone...what I am about to tell you. (Kingston 3). Kingston s first written words
are a defiance of this silencing. Silence is a motif that permeates the entirety of The Woman
Warrior; Kingston

Restaurant Observation Paper
I conducted the field observation in a restaurant named Sakura Izakaya on 30 July, 2015. It is a
Japanese ethnic restaurant. Sakura Izakaya is located near an office building. A shopping center

The first sight in the restaurant is a bar. The shelves are full of cups, Japanese wine, and some
containers with condiments. The bar, tables, and chairs are made of wood. The tables in the
public dining area are of different size, including tables for two people, tables for four, as well as...

there are two editions of the menu. This is considerate. Main dishes on the menu include sushi,
tempura, udon, and sashimi, as well as seafood and soup. Drinks include famous Japanese Sake
and Shochu, wine, cocktail, and some non alcoholic drink. I order Sashimi, salad, and vegetable
Tempura with rice and mushroom miso soup. When I am waiting for my dishes, I notice that
most of the waiters are young girls, but there are also some male waiters. The chefs are male

The Influence Of The Victorian Era
How long did the Victorian Era last? Queen Victoria of England ruled the throne for over 64
years, however her impact made the Victorian era last for a 150 year. The Victorian era was most
known for its censorship and proper allegations. For example, men were supposed to be hard
workers and protectors of the house and family. Subsequently, women were suited to a role that
limited their abilities as a citizen as compared to today, which included household chores and such.
Lastly, children were to be quite and did not spend much time with their mothers and fathers. Due
to society s own harsh expectations of themselves, it impacted other aspects of their lives. This
impacted literature and is a major time when authors had to use more profound and deeper meaning
to events in stories to get inappropriate points across that would otherwise be censored. With this,
the ideas in literature reflect ideas that are found during the Victorian erabecause of its characters
reactions and events that were censored. The novel Dracula, by Bram Stoker, uses the Victorian era
s ideology to influence the story and its characters to convey the Victorian s beliefs in their society.
Firstly, Draculauses sexual inferences as a way to reflect Victorian beliefs that would be seen as
villainous or crude because of their ideas. Undoubtedly, Dracula has inferred sexual messages to the
reader for moods towards the characters. When Jonathan writes in his journal about his meeting
with Dracula, he

The 17 Indisputable Laws Of Teamwork
Have you ever asked yourself about what teamwork really is? and how can you put into practice in

Maxwell and I would like to share here just a few of them and invite you to take a moment to read
them and see if they could help us to honor one of our most representative values: Build the best
team.
John introduces certain concepts and questions that trigger our thoughts about teamwork, which are
important to know before present the laws:

THE LAW OF BANKING SUPPORT
Great teams have great collective strength
John tell us that one important task in team building is building your bench.
Bench have a certain of bad press, that is, some people normally think that bench is equal to players
without value to add to the team, but this is totally wrong:
Today s bench players could be tomorrow s key players
If one of bench players wins, the starter player wins and in consequence, the team also wins
A bench player in a right place will be probably more valuable than a starter one
A great and strong bench make the leader be prepared with more options
Bench is needed in bad times so you must be in continuing improvement of it and building it today
for tomorrowВґs need
As John suggests, you must start working in building your bench now and one way to do it is
taking into account three main topics:
Recruitment, that is who is joining the team
Training, this refers to team development
Losses, which means who is leaving the team
Regarding the first topic, recruitment, the suggestions are based on the 6PQs, which are:
Personality, the suggested test in the one called DISCO, in order to determine if the person is
driving, influencing, supporting or

watch company was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother in law William Davis in
London, with the vision of making quality timepieces more popular. They chose Rolexas the name

Rolex was the only company not to take losses, as it used this time period to further its reputation
for quality and performance. In 1926, Wilsdorf developed and patented the first truly water
resistant watch, the Oyster. The watch was strapped to the wrist of Mercedes Gleitze as she made
her pioneering 15 hour swim across the English Channel. Rolex capitalized on the event by using it
in advertisements, and by building displays in jewelers windows that featured a watch submerged
in a small tank of water. Eventually, Rolex brand had gained such prestige that British Royal Air
Force pilots brought them to replace the inferior watches that were normally issued. Pilots captured
during the war frequently had their wares confiscated, but when pilots wrote to the company
describing their experiences, Rolex would replace the watches at no cost. This led American
servicemen learned of Rolex while stationed in Europe, thus helping to open the lucrative U.S.
market to the company. By using these unique marketing opportunities to their advantage, Rolex
raised brand awareness and furthered its reputation as a major player in the watch market.
In the post war era the company set its sights on further expanding the brand and Rolex continued to

Women Athletes For Women s Sport
2.3.1 Participation
Females generally are at risk of not benefiting from sports because of a lack of participation
(Crouter, 2011). Women are deprived because of inequitable access to sports facilities and limited
opportunities to participate in sports (Bailey et al 2005). There is limited support in terms of
funding and media coverage for womens sport (Parliamentary Committee Council of Europe,
2005). Media support for men s sport is greater than for women s sport. This situation tends to
undermine women participating in sports (Duncan and Hasbrook 1988). Alongside dealing with
problems related to stereotyping, women athletes can expect less financial reward than their
male counterparts there are pay inequities (WFS 2011) and extremely unequal funding (Women s
Sports Foundation 2011). Liang (2011) argued that due to socialization, parents seek out male
coaches for their daughters because of a general belief in the superiority of male knowledge in
sports. Theberge (2000) suggests excellence in sports has been narrowly defined in terms that
generally suit male athletes and hence, the perpetuation of male authority (Watson 1993; Messner
1994). Due to the nature of socialization and stereotyping, it seems that women equally hold to
the belief that men know more about sports (Burke 2001). The notion that women face challenges
because sports is predominantly a man s world is supported by Woodward s (2008) experience of
not being welcome in the boxing gym because she was a

California High Speed Rail Anil Hirani Concordia University Austin Texas Dr. Catalina Zarate

capable of travelling at least 150 mph. The origin of high speed rail in California started in early
1980s, a 130 mile bullet train project between Los Angeles and San Diego was put forward as

distinguished two types of market, one for interregional or long distance trips typically of over
200 miles, and a second for intraregional or commuting trips of less than 100 miles. According to
Charles River Association in 2020 the full CHSRA system would capture 32 million
interregional train trips. The total ridership would thus just exceed 42 million trips annually,
based on a two tier fare system designed to discriminate between business and non business
travelers, with train tickets priced competitively at 50 % of the comparable airfare for each
class. The revised business plan issued in 2009 used the same CSI methodology but tested
slightly higher fares. That plan estimated that train fares set at 83 % of airfare would generate
the greatest operating profit. At 83 % it can attract just over 40 million annual passengers
whereas at 50 % it would attract 54 million. Actions were required in the field of financial funds

Flashbulb Memory Analysis
The cognitive level of analysis aims to study the inner process of the mind and how cognitive
processes guide an individuals behaviour. Within the levels of analysis emotions have been
investigated through their cognitive processes. There are many theories surrounding emotion. The
one that I have chosen is the theory of how emotionaffects the cognitive processed of memory
which is Flashbulb Memory put forward by Brown and Kulik in 1977. This theory shows how
emotion can affect memory by enhancing it. According to some psychologists the arousal of
emotion can make it easier to remember events that occurred during that aroused state. Flashbulb

results showed that 86% of UK participants still had Flashbulb memory of this event. The non Uk
participants only had 29% flashbulb memory of this event. The conclusion reached was that this
event met the criteria for Flashbulb memory for British people as it was an unexpected and highly
significant event related to their culture therefore arousing emotion and triggering the neural

the participants may have felt in having to remember this event and some of the methodology was

The question is about who gets to decide. Decide to be stupid or thoughtful; shortsighted or
mature. To decide based on risks or how one is viewed by others. Choice is complex but
ultimately we do make the choices that affect the direction of our days. These decisions are not
made in a vacuum. Research shows that there are many influences that factor into the process.
From too little information to too much information or even the wrong information. Some factors
are out of our control, such as biological responses and others can be mitigated with education,
insight, and awareness on our part. We assume that having more choices is good, chafing at
whatever might try to limit them. Yet too many choices can inhibit our ability to make good
choices. Choice overload causes us to delay decisions, make poor decisions and be less satisfied
with what we choose. Our upbringing and the environmental context of our lives shape our
understanding of the options available to us. Our moral conscience, our sense of responsibility,
giving consideration to consequences and the effects on others guide what options are deemed
acceptable. They also sometimes show that the only choices available can have no good outcomes.
Do we make our own choices? Yes, we do, but Once we take into account the influences...the scope
of our choices is much narrower than we have long assumed. (Greenfield

What does Davis mean by interpretive obedience in his essay, Professional Responsibility: Just
Following the Rules?
Interpretive obedience is what Davis believes to be the right way of following rules in
professional ethics. Therefore, if a person can understand how to follow rules, than it is the
correct way to abide by the rules. However, Davis emphasizes that if people follow rules blindly,
then they will not see anything but that, and people will then use rules as an excuse. Which is why
Davis favors interpretive obedience because in his essay he means interpretive obedience to be the
understanding of the rule, a person to know the justification of the rule, and to carry out the action
that goes along with the justification.

Wizarding Vs Muggle Astronomy
Astronomy is, of course, the study of the universe. However, as broad range as that observation is, I
believe that Astronomy is, when it comes down to it, the study of what makes up the universe this
includes the planets, the stars, the galaxies, the Sun, the Moon, and everything else that the
universe encompasses.
The differences between Muggle Astronomy and Wizarding Astronomy are not as vast as one might

Owing to the fact that the rings reflect around 80% of the sunlight which hits them, it is believed by
astronomers that the rings are comprised of ice. An interesting thing to note is that these rings have
an atmosphere which is independent of Saturn s own atmosphere. The atmosphere comprised by the
rings is composed of oxygen and hydrogen gas, and which is created when light from the Sun
interacts with the ice particles.
Planet 7: Uranus
The seventh planet Uranus, is one of the Jovian planets and is classified both as a Gas Giant and
as an Ice Giant. Uranus is the Greek God of the Sky. An interesting feature of Uranus is that its
axis of rotation leans almost 90 degrees to one side, making it appear to be tipped over .
The orbital rotation of this planet is half of a Uranus year and as a result of its axis, the north pole
will point almost directly towards the sun. When the Uranus year is through, the south pole will
take the North pole s place, facing the Sun. A full rotation around the Sun is once every 17.2 hours,
and in 84 Earth years equals one full year.

Henry Louis Sullivan was born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 3, 1856 at 22 South

Intersections of Race and Sexuality in Queer Culture
Since 2016, there has been a notable and insatiable effort from minority groups to have their
experiences at the hands of oppression legitimized and recognized as valid by the majority.
However, what many people tend to overlook is that these oppressed groups are also fighting for
validity from another minority group. For example, the fight for recognition of women of a racial
minority within the feminist movement, or the acknowledgement of Deaf people of color within
the Deaf community. This overlap, and the experiences people endure because of it, is commonly
referred to as intersectionality. The word itself has been around since the 1980s, coined by an
African American woman named KimberlГ© Crenshaw in an essay she wrote about feminist
theory and how the feminist movement itself only focused on the factor of gender, rather than other
identities that influence a woman s experience with oppression ( New Words: Intersectionality ).
Although there are numerous amounts of intersections that one person can experience, this essay
aims to focus on the intersectionality of Queer people of color, as well as racism and oppression
within the LGBTQ+ community.
A number of individuals who are not directly involved in the Queer community are rarely exposed
to the discrimination of other subcultures from the majority (i.e. white, gay males). As a result of
this, people are led to assume

Fear In The Alchemist
H. P. Lovecraft has once quoted in his book of Supernatural Horror in Literature that, the oldest and
strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the
unknown. The fear of the unknown is the greatest fear among all fears; meanwhile, the way to
achieve our dreams, or put it in different words, our Personal Legend, lies within the fear of the
unknown. The spiritual adventurous, fantasy novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, brings
out the journey of a young boy named Santiago searching for his Personal Legend. The role of fear

The Myth Of The Ant Queen
While technology is commonly thought of as inventions and gadgets, anything that humans have
developed for specific purposes or to accomplish certain goals, such as methods or models, must
also be correctly categorized as such. In Cathy Davidson s essay Project Classroom Makeover, she
discusses a few unconventional forms of technology such as the educational classroom paradigm
and standardization. Similarly, in Steve Johnson s essay The Myth of the Ant Queen, he presents
procedural technology, such as self organizing systems, and conceptual technology, collaborative
intelligence. He then utilizes another conceptual form of technology, the complexity theory, to
interpret these systems seemingly uncoordinated patterns. Sherry Turkle branches off of Davidson
and Johnson s ideas by discussing the consequences of questioning what makes a robot alive in her
essay Alone Together. This narrative highlights the technology s effect on humans and the reality of
robots either improving or diminishing an individual s quality of life. Besides the slight
apprehension of its future usage, humans are mesmerized by the promising potential technology
presents. Additionally, structural or paradigmatic technology is deeply intertwined and inherent
within society s functioning, making it impossible to separate technology from human existence.
Models and frameworks for systems, also known as paradigms, are innate in all organizations and
push the limits of human creativity, knowledge, and

The upper class were very wealthy and owned an abundance of land. Thus, they did not want to
live close to the unsanitary city but instead in spacious land where they could build a huge

Toorak, Kew, Hawthorn, St. Kilda and Bay at Brighton suburbs in Melbourne. They lived on
higher planes of land, often on top of hills as it was the furthest away from the factory pollution
and had a low risk of flooding. Spread of disease and bacteria was decreased by the medication,
clean clothes and larger accommodation that the upper class could afford which prevented the
spread of disease and prepared for the need of isolation if an disease epidemic ever occurred.

Athletic Performance
What Can Be Done to Improve the Child s Athletic Performance?
For the athlete to continue achieving high performance in spite of a toxic relationship, toxic stress
should be isolated as much as possible. The most direct (yet most difficult) way to achieve this is to
heal the toxicity in the parent/child relationship. One must break the cycle of inflictions exhibited
in these relationships; while many toxic parents unknowingly latch onto or inhumanely punish their
children, their children, seeking self confidence from their microsystem, create circumstances to
pull themselves closer to their parents, creating familial turmoil and testing their parents aptitude to
save them (in which they will continue to be disappointed) (Dunham, ... Show more content on

Still, not every team has the capability or intent of providing these types of relationships for athletes
in toxic parent/child relationships, and the motivation to succeed must come from within the athlete.
When the external relationships offer no solutions to the toxic parenting problem, one must look
inside to negate the pressures affecting athletic performance. Many turn to yoga, meditation,
visualizations, inner evaluation, and various other routines to isolate themselves from the pressures
in their microsystems (Bradshaw, 1988). If the athlete can address and self resolve the internal
emotions spurring from the toxic relationship, the athlete separates the need to be fulfilled by his
/her toxic parent and thus builds internal self confidence, not confidence hinging on the usually
negative parental perceptions.
With these resolutions in mind, there is still no guarantee that athletes living with a toxic parent
will ever reach their highest potential. Sometimes, the effects of toxic parenting are insurmountable,
or there are compounding circumstances that cause pressure to outweigh athletic motivation.
However, if an athlete can identify their parent as a toxic parent, realize how the relationship may
be influencing their athletic career, and work to

In addition to Shakespeare s masterpieces of the stage like Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth, Sir

which Hukm will cause an obligation or that how a demand will be seen as categorical. The First
view is that if the demand is w.r.t to Amar, Hukum and that if the language constitutes an Amar
or an imperative sense it constitutes and Obligation. Whereas Immam Ghalzi puts forwards his
own view stating that if the demand is followed by a punishment will be known as categorical
demand and it will create an Obligation. Now Demands are of 2 types One tell us to do
something and the second one tells us to abstain from something. Things to be done are Obligation
which has already been discussed. Whereas the things which are not to be Done are Known as
Prohibited or Haram in Arabic. In its Book Weiss says that it is the nature of law that prescribes an

Haram is when the demand is made for omitting of acts and is expressed in binding terms .

A Not So Secret Escape If you were to ask someone twenty years ago what camping is all about,
they would immediately tell you about campfires, sleeping bags, and how the stars shine brightly

which includes a kitchen and a modern day shower located on a campground just a few feet away
from access to the Internet. Sure it is nice not to have to leave anything behind while on your

A distinct feature of this economic slowdown is the direct degradation of consumer s assets which

Explain The Stages Of Language Development
There are three main stages of language development and neuro typical children will follow the
same general sequence of language development, although of course there is variation in the age in
which this happens for each individual child. The first stage is the pre linguistic/prattle stage and
this stage lasts for much of the child’s first year. Even within this stage, there are several
milestones. Amazingly, at 2 months old, human infants can produce all of the linguistic sounds that
the human voice is capable of. These same ranges of sounds are made by children all over the
world, no matter which country they are born in, however certain languages simply do not use
some of the sounds and so the children eventually stop using them. The

Persuasive Essay On Geothermal Energy
Geothermal energy is one of the cleanest sources of renewable energy, unlike some other sources
of renewable energy, geothermal energy is contained within a relatively small area, and doesn t
affect local wildlife, it also doesn t produce large amounts of toxic waste, and is nowhere near as
controversial as nuclear power. Unfortunately geothermal energyisn t used nearly as much as many
of the other types of renewable energy, in fact, there are only 12 operating geothermal powerplants
in the US, a relatively small number compared to the 557 coal power plants that currently supply
the United States with its second largest source of power. Yet while the fields of solar and wind
power seem to be growing exponentially, geothermal energy remains relatively small.
Sadly the problem with geothermal energy isn t one that can be easily changed. The reason
geothermal power plants are so few and and far between is the overly specific circumstances that
are needed to harness the underground heat; geothermal power plants require hydrological sites
with naturally high temperatures of around 150 to 370, in the form of wells, hot water is then
pumped out of these wells is then pumped out of these wells, into one of three different systems,
dry steam, dry steam, or binary cycle. Dry steam is the simplest, but also the hardest to find. A dry
steam system will pump hot water out of the earth in the form of steam, since the water is already a
gas, it can be injected straight into the turbine

Counting Bells Knelling Classes To A Close Literary Devices
The word choice in the first stanza, Heaney, starts off by giving a sense of isolation. He says, I
sat all morning in the college sick bay (l. 1). This instantly strains away any positive thoughts that
one might have had from simply reading the title. Starting off a mid term break in the sick bay
doesn t exactly give the best start to the vacation. Also in this line of the first stanzayou can see that
Heaney had a since of isolation in the morning before he went home for, what seems to be, a less
than spectacular mid term break. There are also a couple of literary devices used in the first
stanza. In line two there is alliteration and symbolism used. The line goes counting bells knelling
classes to a close. Knell commonly refers to a bell that is rung solemnly for funerals and
mourning of death. That can be seen as a symbol foreshadowing what is yet to come later in the
poem when the reader learns that Heaney s brother had been ran over by a car. Bells knelling
and classes to a close (l. 2) are alliteration. It is alliteration because the cl s are the same sound
and they occur very close to each other. The word choice in line four, when the specific time of
two o clock is given, it reminds readers that when traumatic events... Show more content on

The core composites for Reading (.96), Mathematics (.96), and Written Language (.93) are also
highly reliable. However, the Oral Language composite (.87) and Oral Fluency (.85) fall below
the desired (.90) standard for reliability. The Sound Symbol and Decoding composites are
adequately reliable at all age levels. Because of the format for the subtests for the Reading
Fluency composite, it is not possible to evaluate the internal consistency. The internal

yet is respected as being apart of the few who were to be considered apart of the pantheon of
directors (1973, p50).
The ideology of Hollywood surrounding S.O.B was Blake Edwards intentions to assault the motion
picture industry as thanks for the excessive disputes between studio executives and himself in order
to maintain Hollywood success (1981, p39).
Within the chapter of Authorship, James Naremore notes that authors are written by a series of
historical, social and cultural determinants (1999, p22), which can be said to easily differentiate
films precisely from one another.
We see a paradoxical linkage to some of these determinants in each of Edwards films.
S.O.B and Sunset (1988) both illustrate the malice and treachery

Miley Cyrus Meaning
The Climb by Miley Cyrus is about the journey through life and how life isn t about the top of the
mountain or reaching a certain point. It s about the climb and how you get there, and how you
recover from the bumps in the road. The Climb was released in 2009 as a country pop song. It was
in the 2009 film Hannah Montana: The Movie, but it wasn t written for that purpose. One day it
just came to writer Jessi Alexander. This was Miley s first song to be released to country radio,
and it was a pretty big career starter for her music. She has performed this sing at many events,
one of being the march of our lives where she showed her support for the #neveragain campaign.

Compare And Contrast Rastafarianism And Buddhism
Around the world there are countless religions being practiced, and each retains their own set of
viewpoints on topics discussed throughout history. Today the two religions of focus are
Rastafarianism and Buddhism, and the topics are ecology, sustainability, and the environment.
Whereas Buddhism and Rastafarianism appear quite different in their terms of environmental
greed, they show important similarities in their values on sustainability and the physical
environment. Before discussing their values, a brief history on each religion, as one is widely
known while the other has a much smaller following. Buddhism began with the enlightenment of
Buddha, at the early age of thirty five he awoke from the sleep of delusion and chose to share his
liberation with those whom he used to suffer with. By the time he passed away, 435 BCE, his
teachings termed Dharma were well known throughout central India. After the rainy season
following his death, his disciple Mahakashyapa gathered his most dedicated followers to establish
what they had learned and begin the widespread dispersion of Buddhism. Sherab Chodzin Kohn,
writer for Buddhism for beginners magazine, states that: Ananda, the Buddha s personal attendant,
recited all the Buddha s discourses (sutras), naming the place where each was given and describing
the circumstances. A monk named Upali recited all the rules and procedures the Buddha had
established for the conduct of monastic life. Mahakashyapa himself recited the matrika,

The Jack The Ripper Murders
The Jack the Ripper Murders happened in the East End of London in 1888 and, although the
Whitechapel Murderer was only a threat to a small section of the community in a small part of
London, the murders had a huge impact on society as a whole. A thing that puzzles a lot of people
about this ancient murderspree is why the crimes are still so famous, even though over a hundred
and twenty five years has gone by since they occurred. If Jack the Ripperonly had five victims, then
he wasn t a particularly prolific murderer compared to others that have come since then. The fact
that his so called reign of terror lasted only twelve or so weeks means that he wasn t at large for a
particularly long time. There is little doubt that his is the worlds... Show more content on

The most famous of these letters, and the one that gave the murderer his name that ensured the
longevity of this legend was the missive sent to the Central News Office in late September, 1888.
This was the infamous Dear Boss Letter, that bore the chilling, though accurate signature, Jack the
Ripper. Press coverage of this letter led to a veritable avalanche of similar correspondence that
resulted in the police investigation almost being brought to melt down. Yet the likelihood is that
the person responsible for the murders was not the same person who sent this letter. It was
believed by police officers at the time and the majority of modern day experts are unanimously in
agreement, that the letter was the work of a Journalist. Despite the fact that no one was ever
brought to justice or charged with the murders, there have been more than a hundred named
suspects who may or may not have been Jack the Ripper. Aaron Kosminski, Thomas Cutbush and
Montague Druitt are some of the interesting suspects, whereas Prince Albert Edward Victor, the
Freemasons, and Lewis Carroll are some of the ridiculous

Definition Of Burden And Standard Of Proof
Burden and Standard of Proof
The expression of burden of proof is the obligation to prove. There are two principal kinds of
burden, legal burden and the evidential burden. The legal burden
The legal burden is referred as the burden of proof. The legal burden may be defined as the
obligation imposed on a party by a rule of law to prove a fact in issue. Generally the claimant will
bear the legal burden of proving each element of his claim, in which he has to present his evidence
first. Thus, the claimant can only discharge his legal burden of proof once the defendant has
presented his case. However, the claimant will not know if they have been successful in
discharging the legal burden until the judge has given the judgement at the very end of the case.
Failure to discharge the burden of proof, the claimant will not have a case to put forward.
The evidential burden
As Lord Bingham has stated in Sheldrake , an evidential burden is not a burden of proof. It is a
burden of raising, on the evidence in the case, an issue as to the matter in question fit for
consideration by the tribunal of fact .
The evidential burden is referred as the burden of adducing evidence and the duty of passing the
judge. In a criminal trial, the prosecution will bear the evidential burden.
The prosecution must adduce sufficient evidence for the judge to not withdraw the case. Thus, even
if the prosecution has discharged the evidential evidence, it does not mean the accused will lose. The

Children Care Options For The Philippines
The country I have chosen is the Philippines, I ve chosen this country because I believe it to be
one of the most intriguing places to learn about. I also have some prior knowledge to this
country and would love to learn more about their child care options, and what the difference is
there than it is here in the US. The Philippines is pretty standard to the USA practices when it
comes to looking for care, nannies, babysitters, etc. They have a website called Great Au Pair,
on this website they have divided up the different child care options easy to access. This website
is very accessible because they make it simple to find exactly what you re looking for. Child care
wise, they have a range of services from; child care, nannies, au pair, and babysitters. There is
also links you can choose from finding caregivers by country, nationality, and language. This
website is very similar to our country s care.com. I ve come across many preschools in the
Philippines that the list doesn t seem to end, it s very accessible as looking for care, nannies, and
etc. was. They do have many public provided care, but mostly with the schools you can attend. It
s very similar to USA practices because we also offer many public schools as they do. There are
many basic child care options for mothers in the workforce, they are informal arrangements which
is where children are provided care at home, outside the home by either of their parents, relatives, or
nonrelatives. In Informal Arrangements,

The Lottery Conflict

All these types of conflict help create different moods and themes in stories. They give the reader
a sense of excitement or it can even scare them depending on what is going on. In this story it all
started off like it if was a beautiful peaceful town with people enjoying an event in the town
square. Until all the problems started occurring and you started looking at the characters moods did

are kept more towards one person s inner self. In The Lottery, there also also internal conflicts that
can be found throughout it even though some people might not be able to notice it. An internal
conflict can be important to see throughout stories because they can show you the feelings of that
character. It may turn out that maybe the a certain character may be scared while another one is
having second thoughts about something. This can be crucial when reading stories and even
watching movie because they may give you ideas about what may occur in the near future. It is
what makes stories more interesting and make you want to keep on reading because you want have
the curiosity of what is going to happen next in the story.
Some internal conflicts found in The Lottery include when Tessie came in the village square
running late. She was worried when she arrived to the square late. It does not tell you why she
may have been worried, but maybe it was because she was worried about getting chosen and
getting killed. It may have also been because there was a chance that one of her family members

Teaching A Student Centered Environment
Students need to be the priority when it comes to student centered environments. In today s
classroom it is no longer the teacher instilling one way to solve the math problem into the students.
It is the students working cooperatively with the teacher and their classmates to find their own way
to solve the math problem. If they can solve a math problem in a way that is unique to the teacher
or their classmates and still gets the correct answer that is student centered learning. There are many
steps that need to be taken when creating and teaching a student centered environment in the
classroom. The three main steps are the environment of the classroom, teaching in a way that is
student centered, and assessing students. While these might... Show more content on

What I mean by that is that in a round table there are going to be some students who are not facing
the same direction. These students should have the same amount of opportunity to view the
teaching and the instruction as any of the other students. The second step for creating a student
centered mint is teaching. In this paper, I am going to be specifically talking about teaching math.
It is important that teaching be done in a way that is relational. This means that the children are
answering the questions their own way and in a way that makes sense to them specifically. In the
book teaching students entered mathematics Walle states that They develop their understanding of
mathematics because they are at the center of explaining, providing evidence or justification,
finding or creating examples, generalizing, analyzing, making predictions, applying concepts,
representing ideas in differВ ent ways, and articulating connections or relationships between the
given topic and other ideas. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 6). Method of
teaching is very important when teaching mathematics to children. With facilitative methods, the
teacher might use investigations and inquiry, cooperative learning, discussion, and questions that
are more open‐ended. (Van de Walle, Lovin, Karp, Bay Williams, 2014, pg. 10). This is
important because through cooperative learning the children can see other peers ideas. They got to

The Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting
Zuri Gacia

23 November 2015
They had their entire lives ahead of them birthdays, graduations, weddings, kids of their own.
Among the fallen were also teachers, men and women who devoted their lives to helping our
children fulfill their dreams ( STUDENT NEWS ). One morning in Newtown, Connecticut, many
children and staff of Sandy Hook Elementary were ready to begin their daily routine of attending
school, or work. Unfortunately, they were not aware that this would be the last time they do so.
The shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary ended the lives of several staff and young children. This
devastating tragedy added fuel to the controversial gun argument. Parents of the children lobbied to
pass gun reform laws which would help provide safety for citizens and prevent awful events similar
to this from occurring in the future.
The Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting occurred on December 14, 2012, in Newtown,
Connecticut, when 20 year old Adam Lanza shot twenty children and six adult staff members (
Sandy Hook Elementary School Shooting ). It was the deadliest mass shooting at a high school or
grade school in U.S. history and the second deadliest mass shooting by a single person in
America ( Screening Sandy Hook ). Several families lost a loved one all due to someone s
selfishness to provoke harm to many innocent lives. At some point before he went to the school,
investigators believe Adam Lanza, killed his mother, Nancy Lanza ( Sandy Hook Shooting:

The International Civil Aviation Organization
1.Introduction A conference was initiated by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, in
which all the allied powers as well as some neutral governments convened at Chicago to discuss the
future of civil aviation. The expectations from this conference, which came to be known as the
Chicago Convention, were high even though the timing of the convention wasn t perfect. The
Chicago Convention proposed the formation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation
(ICAO), which later became a part of the UN in 1947. The ICAO contains universal rules covering
airspace sovereignty, aircraft registration and airworthiness, and global Standards and

Fifty four countries attended the Chicago conference and although it did not quite achieve all of
its goals, it did provide the groundwork for the founding of the ICAO in 1947. The Soviet Union
was invited to the conference but did not attend. Many of the countries which the Allies were at
war Germany, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Finland were not invited
and were not represented but it was the absence of the USSR which was mainly felt as the USSR
represented the largest land territory of the world and were expected to play an important role in
after war arrangements. This negative attitude of the USSR was perhaps a sign of the cold war
mistrust and isolation and that the secretive USSR was not ready to open its air space to
international cooperation. The official reason given for the non participation though was that
among the nations taking part in the conference, there were some countries like Switzerland,
Spain, and Portugal which for a number of years have carried on a hostile policy towards the
Soviet Union. 3.Outcomes of the Convention The atmosphere of the conference was one of
uncertainty and some anxiety, which was felt by all delegations towards the attempts of the US to

Similarities Between Macbeth And Banquo
A homograph is a word that is spelled the same but can be pronounced differently or have different
meanings. Different pronunciations of the word are used based on the context of the sentence it is
in. This same idea is also true of people. Two people can have the exact same experiences, yet react
to it in completely different ways. Characters in literature often reflect this same phenomenon, foil
characters with identical aspects who react differently to circumstance. In Shakespeare s tragic play
Macbeth, Banquo serves as a foil character to Macbeth emphasizing Macbeth s unchecked ambition,
a fatal flaw, that leads to his ultimate moral decline. At the beginning of the story, Shakespeare
establishes the foil between Macbeth and Banquo to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By encouraging Macbeth not to fear his prophecy, Shakespeare establishes that his foil Banquo
also has a sense of ambition. Unlike Macbeth, however, Banquo has the ability to control his
ambition. These opening scenes establish a foil between Banquo and Macbeth in order to show
their shared positive characteristics prior to Macbeth s moral decline. After Macbeth and Banquo
receive prophecies, the foil characters start to diverge as Banquo s takes the moral path of
goodness while Macbeth takes the immoral path towards his ultimate decline. Banquo and Macbeth
have the opportunity to pursue the same path, but because of his unchecked ambition, Macbeth
deviates from Banquo s path of good morals. Immediately after the witches tell their prophecies,
Banquo s mindset is wary and rational. He warns Macbeth that, oftentimes, to win us to our harm,
/ the instruments of darkness tell us truths... (1.3.125 126). Banquo is not obsessed with the
prophecies and the idea that one day his ancestors will be kings. On the other hand, Macbeth
speculates, Two truths are told, / as happy prologues to the swelling act / of the imperial theme.
(1.3.130 132) Because two of the three prophecies have come true, Macbeth is blinded by his
ambition and seems to fantasize about the idea of being king. These contrasting reactions show that
Macbeth takes a

The Road That Led African Americans
The road that led African Americans to freedom in the United States was definitely not an easy
road by any means. It was indeed a stony road, and the chastening rod is used here to describe the
harshness associated with slavery and the masters cracking the whip, or rod. So much blood was
shed during this point in time, before Reconstruction (during the Civil War), and after
Reconstruction and the period leading up to the Harlem Renaissance. In fact, even after African
Americans had gained their freedom they still experienced abuse, inequality, and suffering at
the hands of their White counterparts. The Jim Crow Laws were enacted and in effect in the
South, which led to the mass migration to the North, and even in the North, Blacks still
experienced some indifference, though not on the same scale as they had in the South. In Lift
Every Voice and Sing, Johnson uses rhyming which of course is standard of most poetry. He also
uses simile in line five with his comparison of how the sound of joy should be loud like that of
the rolling sea. Lift Every Voice and Sing is both carefully and craftily composed, and uses vivid
imagery as well as religious theme, which is also prevalent in a majority of Johnson s works,
again displaying his strong Christian faith. This poem has become so well known, and so popular,
that it was recited by Reverend Joseph E. Lowery at the Inauguration ceremony of President
Barack Obama in 2009. In 2008 Rene Marie, a jazz musician substituted the words

  • 2. Airtex Airtex Aviation Case Study AirTex Aviation 1. Did AirTex need a new control system at the time of the takeover? * The management system that was in place was one woman who magically kept everything in her head. There was limited and almost incomprehensible formal system. Sarah Arthur, the company s accountant, had complete autonomy over the company s information, and she kept this information private. * AirTex was in need of a more formalized accounting system, since accounting was a central department of the company, and profitability was a key measure to ensure the success of the company at the time of the takeover. * Also, Ted and Frank had plans to dispose of Sarah Arthur, who was acting manager upon their arrival. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Should anything have been done differently? * Make the system wear the black hat * Use system to make employees do the right thing * Controls Implemented * Personnel/Cultural Controls: Frank and Ted chose to keep the current employees, as they felt there wasn t enough time to completely turn over the workforce. Furthermore, Frank and Ted provided an environment that was encouraging and supportive. Ted chose to be an emotional leader as opposed to a task leader . He also set up his office with a blackboard to accommodate teaching. This encouraged managers to seek him for advice when they encountered a problem and he was willing to provide mentoring and training. Frank and Ted recognized that their employees were experienced and motivated to succeed in their roles. As a result, Ted decided to take a backseat approach in terms of his managementstyle. • 3. How Do Fuel Cells Work How fuel cells work A fuel cell is a device that produces an electrical current through a chemical reaction. All fuel cells contain a cathode and an anode, which are positive and negative electrodes, respectively. The chemical reactions which produce electricity occur at the electrodes. Fuel cells also contain an electrolyte, which carries electrically charged particles between the electrodes. A catalyst also aids to speed up the chemical reaction at the electrodes. In fuel cells, an impurity must serve as the electrolyte; if one uses distilled water for this experiment, it could serve only as the control, because purified water does not contain any substances that react at the electrodes. Some examples of impurities used as electrolytes in various types of fuel cells include... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It consists of using hydrogen and hydroxyl ions to create electricity and end up with potable water. This method very useful aboard spacecrafts allowing them to stay in space for a longer amount of time because they can create their own water. The next most common type is molten carbonate the electrolyte in this is carbonate salts. However this type of fuel cell tends to be slightly less efficient due to the fact that they have to be melted before they can be used. Having a liquid electrolyte can be difficult to handle and time consuming. It is however useful seeing as it refreshes the electrolyte through every cycle. The last form of fuel cells available is PEM (or Proton Exchange Membrane). The electrolyte for this is a very thin polymer sheet. Unfortunately, this type can be extremely expensive because it is required to have a platinum catalyst. A temperature of eighty degrees celsius must also be reached. This fuel cell still resembles the basic form. It requires hydrogen atoms which have been striped from their electrons, and the electrons pass through the exterior circuit, which creates electricity. At the end, it meets with air to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Essay about Jonathan Swift Jonathan Swift In an age of where rationality and morals were held to the accepted values, Jonathan Swift stood out as a champion of humanism. All his life he attacked pretense and begged people to see that life is not always what it seems when you look harder and think deeper. In addition, Swift was one of the most powerful writers of his time; able to rally people and nations around the caustic and moral views expressed in his works. His political writings for the Tories exposed the corruptions of government and paved the way for his acclaimed satires. Swift s great strength lied in impressing people into believing his ideals without blatantly professing them or becoming preachy. Swift was raised in Dublin, and was schooled well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We do not merely agree with the moral evaluations implied; we have lived, in our imaginations, through a moral experience (Williams 4). Swift doesn t simply tell us his beliefs; he makes the reader sort it out through the context of the story. By placing his ideas and morals upon other characters, Swift himself stands distant from these scenes he writes about. In doing so, he artistically, yet implicitly, defines the interval between the normal and the absurd. We attain normality by guarding against pride, and this we could do easily by observing the distorted figures in comedy and satire (Quintana 39). An example where Swift uses his satire in a crafty, implicit way is in one of his first major works, A Tale of A Tub. The book is about exposing the corruption and abuses of religion at the time. In section VI of the book, Swift takes the form of an earnest storyteller but in fact he is telling the history of the major Christian Churches. The three main characters are obviously personas for the three main churches at the time. There is Peter, who in truth represents the Roman Catholic Church; Martin, who is named after the Protestant/Lutheran/Anglican Church; and Jack, who is named after Calvinism and the other nonconformist Christian religions. Swift, as the narrator, is asserting to be telling this story just like it happened, and not drawing any conclusions or seeing any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Importance Of Conservation During The Progressive Era Conservation was the most important reform, from this time period, since it worked towards protecting the United State s physical environment which leads to obtaining the essential resources of nature, preserving the naturality of the planet, and living a higher quality of life. During the Progressive Era the Second Industrial Revolution was in action, sprouting new technological advancements and ground breaking creations or processes. During this era, new inventions were being made and big monopolies were increasing their use of natural resources to a point where it was becoming harmful. One of the areas of resources that was becoming alarmingly low was forests and lumber, leading to the Forest Reserve Act of 1891. This act, which occurred during the conservation reform, allowed the president to choose forests of interests and claim them as reserves, protecting them from being harmed or negatively affected by big businesses. With the Forest Act many other acts protecting the Earth s resources sprung up as well. All of the acts that were passed restricted important resources from being wasted and blatantly used for company production areas. These acts, enlisted in terms of the government, would allow the president to choose areas in which resources could always exist and couldn t be overused. The areas chosen would include places with plentiful natural assets and a large range of land. This early protection against the act of overharvesting, lead to people being able to ... • 8. Compare And Contrast Virginia And New England Colonies In the New World, various resources, climates, and considerable amounts of land allowed numerous opportunities for settlers. Those who once yearned to climb the social ladder or gain the freedoms bestowed from land ownership flocked toward the newfound settlements. Colonization proved to be a grueling task; however, success was found after adapting to the new environment and facing many hardships. Two colonies established early in the seventeenth century included Virginia and New England. Both Virginia and New England were forerunning settlements that differed in the following senses: political, social, and economical. Politically, Virginia and New England differed in the basis of their governing systems. Virginia focused on the desire of its individuals: (t)hat our governors by reason of the corruption of those times they lived in, laid the foundation of our wealth and industry on the vices of men. This standard of government was an early precursor to democracy and allowed Virginian s to feel the rights of being freemen. New England, instead of basing their government on the individual desires of man, governed the colony on the basis of Christianity. The New England settlers strongly believed the spirit of God would deliver them and create greatness in the colony: the God of Israel is among us, and ten of us shall be able to resist a thousand of our enemies. The Lord will make our name a praise and glory. The colony wanted to be set above the rest, or in other words, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston In The Woman Warrior, Maxine Hong Kingston crafts a fictitious memoir of her girlhood among ghosts. The book s classification as a memoir incited significant debate, and the authenticity of her representation of Chinese American culture was contested by Asian American scholars and authors. The Woman Warrior is ingenuitive in its manipulation of the autobiographical genre. Kingston integrates the value of storytelling in her memoir and relates it to dominant themes about silence, cultural authenticity, and the cultivation of identity. Throughout her work, Kingston reaches a variety of conclusions about the stories her mother told her by writing interpretations of her mother, Brave Orchid s, talk story . Brave Orchid s talk story is a form... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She considers that some man had commanded her to lie with him and be his secret evil. (Kingston 6). Kingston writes her initial version of the No Name Woman, who was raped, raided, and died an outcast, but Kingston determines that this telling does not fit her understanding of China. Therefore, Kingston entertains another hypothetical, that her aunt took a lover and saved him from shame by giving silent birth and not revealing the lover s identity (Kingston 11). Here, Kingston critically examines the inherited talk story of her mother to determine the meaning she should obtain from the death of her aunt. Her mother s conclusion is that she must not become pregnant, but Kingston is uncertain about the simplicity of her mother s story. In the No Name Woman, Kingston introduces the fictitious memoir structure that she utilizes through the variety of interpretations of her aunt s story. Consistently through the memoir, Kingston writes contrasting accounts of the same stories and imagines the stories of others to further her themes about silence, authenticity, and identity formation. Kingston begins The Woman Warriorby writing a story which started with her mother insisting that she must not tell anyone...what I am about to tell you. (Kingston 3). Kingston s first written words are a defiance of this silencing. Silence is a motif that permeates the entirety of The Woman Warrior; Kingston ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sakura Izakaya is located near an office building. A shopping center is also within a walk distance of the restaurant. Seen from the outside, the restaurant is modern with large windows and glass doors. When I walk in, I find the restaurant is comfortable and looks traditional. The wooden floor is clean. A waitress welcomes me at the door with Japanese. The first sight in the restaurant is a bar. The shelves are full of cups, Japanese wine, and some containers with condiments. The bar, tables, and chairs are made of wood. The tables in the public dining area are of different size, including tables for two people, tables for four, as well as... • 11. The Influence Of The Victorian Era How long did the Victorian Era last? Queen Victoria of England ruled the throne for over 64 years, however her impact made the Victorian era last for a 150 year. The Victorian era was most known for its censorship and proper allegations. For example, men were supposed to be hard workers and protectors of the house and family. Subsequently, women were suited to a role that limited their abilities as a citizen as compared to today, which included household chores and such. Lastly, children were to be quite and did not spend much time with their mothers and fathers. Due to society s own harsh expectations of themselves, it impacted other aspects of their lives. This impacted literature and is a major time when authors had to use more profound and deeper meaning to events in stories to get inappropriate points across that would otherwise be censored. With this, the ideas in literature reflect ideas that are found during the Victorian erabecause of its characters reactions and events that were censored. The novel Dracula, by Bram Stoker, uses the Victorian era s ideology to influence the story and its characters to convey the Victorian s beliefs in their society. Firstly, Draculauses sexual inferences as a way to reflect Victorian beliefs that would be seen as villainous or crude because of their ideas. Undoubtedly, Dracula has inferred sexual messages to the reader for moods towards the characters. When Jonathan writes in his journal about his meeting with Dracula, he ... The Swiss watch company was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and his brother in law William Davis in London, with the vision of making quality timepieces more popular. They chose Rolexas the name because they believed that the sound a watchmade while being wound sounded like the word while also being short enough to fit on any size watch. Rolex capitalized on the event by using it in advertisements, and by building displays in jewelers windows that featured a watch submerged in a small tank of water. Eventually, Rolex brand had gained such prestige that British Royal Air Force pilots brought them to replace the inferior watches that were normally issued. Pilots captured during the war frequently had their wares confiscated, but when pilots wrote to the company describing their experiences, Rolex would replace the watches at no cost. This led American servicemen learned of Rolex while stationed in Europe, thus helping to open the lucrative U.S. market to the company. • 15. Women Athletes For Women s Sport 2.3.1 Participation Females generally are at risk of not benefiting from sports because of a lack of participation (Crouter, 2011). Women are deprived because of inequitable access to sports facilities and limited opportunities to participate in sports (Bailey et al 2005). There is limited support in terms of funding and media coverage for womens sport (Parliamentary Committee Council of Europe, 2005). Media support for men s sport is greater than for women s sport. This situation tends to undermine women participating in sports (Duncan and Hasbrook 1988). Alongside dealing with problems related to stereotyping, women athletes can expect less financial reward than their male counterparts there are pay inequities (WFS 2011) and extremely unequal funding (Women s Sports Foundation 2011). Liang (2011) argued that due to socialization, parents seek out male coaches for their daughters because of a general belief in the superiority of male knowledge in sports. Theberge (2000) suggests excellence in sports has been narrowly defined in terms that generally suit male athletes and hence, the perpetuation of male authority (Watson 1993; Messner 1994). Due to the nature of socialization and stereotyping, it seems that women equally hold to the belief that men know more about sports (Burke 2001). California Rail Case Study California High Speed Rail Anil Hirani Concordia University Austin Texas Dr. Catalina Zarate April 5, 2015 Introduction and Highlights High speed rail (HSR) was generally defined as trains capable of travelling at least 150 mph. The origin of high speed rail in California started in early 1980s, a 130 mile bullet train project between Los Angeles and San Diego was put forward as assembly bill. Financing difficulties ultimately led the American High Speed Rail Corporation s (AHSRC) abandonment of the project in 1984. According to Charles River Association in 2020 the full CHSRA system would capture 32 million interregional train trips. The total ridership would thus just exceed 42 million trips annually, based on a two tier fare system designed to discriminate between business and non business travelers, with train tickets priced competitively at 50 % of the comparable airfare for each class. The revised business plan issued in 2009 used the same CSI methodology but tested slightly higher fares. That plan estimated that train fares set at 83 % of airfare would generate the greatest operating profit. Clements QS 301 04 October 2017 Intersections of Race and Sexuality in Queer Culture Since 2016, there has been a notable and insatiable effort from minority groups to have their experiences at the hands of oppression legitimized and recognized as valid by the majority. However, what many people tend to overlook is that these oppressed groups are also fighting for validity from another minority group. For example, the fight for recognition of women of a racial minority within the feminist movement, or the acknowledgement of Deaf people of color within the Deaf community. This overlap, and the experiences people endure because of it, is commonly referred to as intersectionality. The word itself has been around since the 1980s, coined by an African American woman named KimberlГ© Crenshaw in an essay she wrote about feminist theory and how the feminist movement itself only focused on the factor of gender, rather than other identities that influence a woman s experience with oppression ( New Words: Intersectionality ). Although there are numerous amounts of intersections that one person can experience, this essay aims to focus on the intersectionality of Queer people of color, as well as racism and oppression within the LGBTQ+ community. Now the jurists have a couple of view upon the fact that which Hukm will cause an obligation or that how a demand will be seen as categorical. The First view is that if the demand is w.r.t to Amar, Hukum and that if the language constitutes an Amar or an imperative sense it constitutes and Obligation. Whereas Immam Ghalzi puts forwards his own view stating that if the demand is followed by a punishment will be known as categorical demand and it will create an Obligation. Now Demands are of 2 types One tell us to do something and the second one tells us to abstain from something. Things to be done are Obligation which has already been discussed. A Not-so-Secret Escape A Not So Secret Escape If you were to ask someone twenty years ago what camping is all about, they would immediately tell you about campfires, sleeping bags, and how the stars shine brightly at night. However, today s outlook on camping has changed completely. It involves a motor home which includes a kitchen and a modern day shower located on a campground just a few feet away from access to the Internet. Sure it is nice not to have to leave anything behind while on your campingtrip, but you re really not camping. Real camping is dirty, simple, and breathtaking. It involves sleeping on the ground with just a thin layer separating you from the freezing, soft soil filled with insects ready to climb on top of your warm body. Camping is taking hour long walks, exploring the scenery that surrounds you while avoiding the dangers in the forest. To experience real camping, one should work hard for their food, warmth, and comfort. Even though camping in a four wheeled home with all the daily amenities is easier than camping that involves secluding yourself in the middle of the forest, it doesn t reveal one of camping s greatest attributes: an escape from the busy society in which we live today. As a kid, I never really enjoyed going camping with my family. The way I looked at it, it took away time from my games and the luxury of indoor plumbing. Persuasive Essay On Geothermal Energy Geothermal energy is one of the cleanest sources of renewable energy, unlike some other sources of renewable energy, geothermal energy is contained within a relatively small area, and doesn t affect local wildlife, it also doesn t produce large amounts of toxic waste, and is nowhere near as controversial as nuclear power. Unfortunately geothermal energyisn t used nearly as much as many of the other types of renewable energy, in fact, there are only 12 operating geothermal powerplants in the US, a relatively small number compared to the 557 coal power plants that currently supply the United States with its second largest source of power. Yet while the fields of solar and wind power seem to be growing exponentially, geothermal energy remains relatively small. Sadly the problem with geothermal energy isn t one that can be easily changed. The reason geothermal power plants are so few and and far between is the overly specific circumstances that are needed to harness the underground heat; geothermal power plants require hydrological sites with naturally high temperatures of around 150 to 370, in the form of wells, hot water is then pumped out of these wells is then pumped out of these wells, into one of three different systems, dry steam, dry steam, or binary cycle. He says, I sat all morning in the college sick bay (l. 1). This instantly strains away any positive thoughts that one might have had from simply reading the title. Starting off a mid term break in the sick bay doesn t exactly give the best start to the vacation. Also in this line of the first stanzayou can see that Heaney had a since of isolation in the morning before he went home for, what seems to be, a less than spectacular mid term break. There are also a couple of literary devices used in the first stanza. In line two there is alliteration and symbolism used. The line goes counting bells knelling classes to a close. Knell commonly refers to a bell that is rung solemnly for funerals and mourning of death. That can be seen as a symbol foreshadowing what is yet to come later in the poem when the reader learns that Heaney s brother had been ran over by a car. Bells knelling and classes to a close (l. 2) are alliteration. It is alliteration because the cl s are the same sound and they occur very close to each other. However, the Oral Language composite (.87) and Oral Fluency (.85) fall below the desired (.90) standard for reliability. The Sound Symbol and Decoding composites are adequately reliable at all age levels. Because of the format for the subtests for the Reading Fluency composite, it is not possible to evaluate the internal consistency. The internal consistency coefficients are lower for subtests than composites. Most of the Reading and Mathematics subtests, and the Spelling subtest coefficients are sufficiently reliable. The majority of coefficients for the Oral Language subtests and the Written Expression subtest are less than (.90). The coefficients for Nonsense Word Decoding are acceptable; but the majority of coefficients for the Phonological Awareness, Associational Fluency, and Naming Facility are below (.90). The ideology of Hollywood surrounding S.O.B was Blake Edwards intentions to assault the motion picture industry as thanks for the excessive disputes between studio executives and himself in order to maintain Hollywood success (1981, p39). Within the chapter of Authorship, James Naremore notes that authors are written by a series of historical, social and cultural determinants (1999, p22), which can be said to easily differentiate films precisely from one another. After the rainy season following his death, his disciple Mahakashyapa gathered his most dedicated followers to establish what they had learned and begin the widespread dispersion of Buddhism. • 46. Definition Of Burden And Standard Of Proof Burden and Standard of Proof The expression of burden of proof is the obligation to prove. There are two principal kinds of burden, legal burden and the evidential burden. The legal burden The legal burden is referred as the burden of proof. The legal burden may be defined as the obligation imposed on a party by a rule of law to prove a fact in issue. Generally the claimant will bear the legal burden of proving each element of his claim, in which he has to present his evidence first. Thus, the claimant can only discharge his legal burden of proof once the defendant has presented his case. However, the claimant will not know if they have been successful in discharging the legal burden until the judge has given the judgement at the very end of the case. Failure to discharge the burden of proof, the claimant will not have a case to put forward. The evidential burden As Lord Bingham has stated in Sheldrake , an evidential burden is not a burden of proof. It is a burden of raising, on the evidence in the case, an issue as to the matter in question fit for consideration by the tribunal of fact . The evidential burden is referred as the burden of adducing evidence and the duty of passing the judge. In a criminal trial, the prosecution will bear the evidential burden. The prosecution must adduce sufficient evidence for the judge to not withdraw the case. Thus, even if the prosecution has discharged the evidential evidence, it does not mean the accused will lose. • 55. The International Civil Aviation Organization 1.Introduction A conference was initiated by the US President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1944, in which all the allied powers as well as some neutral governments convened at Chicago to discuss the future of civil aviation. The expectations from this conference, which came to be known as the Chicago Convention, were high even though the timing of the convention wasn t perfect. The Chicago Convention proposed the formation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), which later became a part of the UN in 1947. The ICAO contains universal rules covering airspace sovereignty, aircraft registration and airworthiness, and global Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) for technical and safety harmonization records of the national... Fifty four countries attended the Chicago conference and although it did not quite achieve all of its goals, it did provide the groundwork for the founding of the ICAO in 1947. The Soviet Union was invited to the conference but did not attend. Many of the countries which the Allies were at war Germany, Japan, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Italy and Finland were not invited and were not represented but it was the absence of the USSR which was mainly felt as the USSR represented the largest land territory of the world and were expected to play an important role in after war arrangements. This negative attitude of the USSR was perhaps a sign of the cold war mistrust and isolation and that the secretive USSR was not ready to open its air space to international cooperation. The official reason given for the non participation though was that among the nations taking part in the conference, there were some countries like Switzerland, Spain, and Portugal which for a number of years have carried on a hostile policy towards the Soviet Union. 3.Outcomes of the Convention The atmosphere of the conference was one of uncertainty and some anxiety, which was felt by all delegations towards the attempts of the US to impose its ... • 56. Similarities Between Macbeth And Banquo A homograph is a word that is spelled the same but can be pronounced differently or have different meanings. Different pronunciations of the word are used based on the context of the sentence it is in. This same idea is also true of people. Two people can have the exact same experiences, yet react to it in completely different ways. Characters in literature often reflect this same phenomenon, foil characters with identical aspects who react differently to circumstance. In Shakespeare s tragic play Macbeth, Banquo serves as a foil character to Macbeth emphasizing Macbeth s unchecked ambition, a fatal flaw, that leads to his ultimate moral decline. At the beginning of the story, Shakespeare establishes the foil between Macbeth and Banquo to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By encouraging Macbeth not to fear his prophecy, Shakespeare establishes that his foil Banquo also has a sense of ambition. Unlike Macbeth, however, Banquo has the ability to control his ambition. These opening scenes establish a foil between Banquo and Macbeth in order to show their shared positive characteristics prior to Macbeth s moral decline. After Macbeth and Banquo receive prophecies, the foil characters start to diverge as Banquo s takes the moral path of goodness while Macbeth takes the immoral path towards his ultimate decline. Banquo and Macbeth have the opportunity to pursue the same path, but because of his unchecked ambition, Macbeth deviates from Banquo s path of good morals. Immediately after the witches tell their prophecies, Banquo s mindset is wary and rational. He warns Macbeth that, oftentimes, to win us to our harm, / the instruments of darkness tell us truths... (1.3.125 126). Banquo is not obsessed with the prophecies and the idea that one day his ancestors will be kings. On the other hand, Macbeth speculates, Two truths are told, / as happy prologues to the swelling act / of the imperial theme. (1.3.130 132) Because two of the three prophecies have come true, Macbeth is blinded by his ambition and seems to fantasize about the idea of being king. These contrasting reactions show that Macbeth takes a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 58. The Road That Led African Americans The road that led African Americans to freedom in the United States was definitely not an easy road by any means. It was indeed a stony road, and the chastening rod is used here to describe the harshness associated with slavery and the masters cracking the whip, or rod. So much blood was shed during this point in time, before Reconstruction (during the Civil War), and after Reconstruction and the period leading up to the Harlem Renaissance. In fact, even after African Americans had gained their freedom they still experienced abuse, inequality, and suffering at the hands of their White counterparts. The Jim Crow Laws were enacted and in effect in the South, which led to the mass migration to the North, and even in the North, Blacks still experienced some indifference, though not on the same scale as they had in the South. In Lift Every Voice and Sing, Johnson uses rhyming which of course is standard of most poetry. He also uses simile in line five with his comparison of how the sound of joy should be loud like that of the rolling sea. Lift Every Voice and Sing is both carefully and craftily composed, and uses vivid imagery as well as religious theme, which is also prevalent in a majority of Johnson s works, again displaying his strong Christian faith. This poem has become so well known, and so popular, that it was recited by Reverend Joseph E. Lowery at the Inauguration ceremony of President Barack Obama in 2009. In 2008 Rene Marie, a jazz musician substituted the words ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
