Great men belong to nation, not to caste : Yogi
First India Bureau
Lucknow: “A nation
that forgets its history
and traditions cannot
protect its geography.
Bhoj’s life was dedicat-
ed to preserving India’s
glorious past and na-
tional prestige. Simi-
larly, today’s India has
risen above caste and
community politics in
national interest. We
don’t discriminate
among people on the ba-
sis of caste and commu-
nity. Our priority is de-
velopment, irrespective
of caste of creed,” CM
Yogi Adityanath said on
Wednesday at Dadri
where he unveiled a
statue of Mihir Bhoj, a
ninth-century king.
He said that great
men belong to the na-
tion and not to any caste
or community
. “Taliban
reminds us of those for-
eign invaders who force-
fully entered India and
played havoc with our
rich culture and history
.
Unfortunately
, there are
people within India that
support Taliban. We
have to guard against
this mindset for the hon-
our of our daughters
and sisters,” the CM re-
marked. CM Yogi said
that Raja Bhoj believed
in nationalism and it
was because of the
sense of security given
by him to the people of
the country that foreign
invaders did not attack
India for one-and-a-half
centuries after his rule.

Taliban wants to address UN,names representative
United Nations: The
Taliban, Afghanistan’s
new rulers for a matter
of weeks, are challeng-
ing the credentials of
their country’s former
UN ambassador and

eral Assembly’s high-
level meeting of world
leaders this week, the
international body says.
The question now fac-
ing UN officials comes
just over a month after
the Taliban, ejected
from Afghanistan by
the United States and its
allies after 9/11, swept
back into power as US
forces prepared to with-
draw from the country
at the end of August.
UN spokesman
Stephane Dujarric said
Secretary-General An-
tonio Guterres received
a communication on
September 15 from the
currently accredited Af-
ghan Ambassador, Ghu-
lam Isaczai, with the list

New Delhi: Before
leaving for United

Minister Narendra
Modi said that his visit
was an “occasion to
strengthen strategic
partnership with the
US and consolidate
ties with Japan and
Australia.” PM will be
attending the first in-
person Quad leaders’
summit and will also
be meeting with US
President Joe Biden for
the first time since he
assumed office earlier
this year. “During my
visit to the US between
September 22-25, I will
review India-US Stra-
tegic Partnership with
President Joe Biden,”
PM Modi said. Refer-
ring to his first meet
with Vice President
Kamala Harris, PM
said he was “looking
forward” to the talks to
explore opportunities
for cooperation. PM
Modi is accompanied
by a high-level delega-
tion including External
Affairs Minister S
Jaishankar and Na-
tional Security Advisor
Ajit Doval. PM Modi’s
flight to US avoided

Pakistan gave nod for

UK: PROBLEM IS
VAX CERTIFICATE
New Delhi: Covishield
is now an approved vac-
cine on the UK’s revised
norms for travel after a
furious India warned of
“reciprocal measures”,
but double-vaccinated
Indians still have to
quarantine because of
“vaccination certification
issues”, said UK officials.
Officials have implied the
problem is not Covishield
but doubts over vaccine
certification in India.
AFTER INDIA PROTESTS, UK ADDS
COVISHIELD TO APPROVED VAX LIST
London: The United Kingdom Wednesday added Cov-
ishield to its list of approved Covid-19 vaccines for travel
to the country. However, there is confusion over the UK
government’s vaccine recognition process for Indian
travellers as even though Covishield is on an updated
international travel advisory, India is not yet on a list of 17
approved countries. The UK’s Department of Health and
Social Care (DHSC) has said on Wednesday that they are
unable to confirm this and will require further clarifica-
tions even though the advisory states, “Formulations of
the 4 listed vaccines, such as AstraZeneca Covishield,
AstraZeneca Vaxzevria and Moderna Takeda.”

the Congress is com-

opposition to three con-

Priyanka Gandhi, who
has been regularly
tweeting on the issue,
will also make efforts to

the hostile farmers

UP cleric held for running
‘biggest’ conversion racket
Lucknow: The Uttar
Pradesh Anti-Terror-
ist Squad (ATS) has
arrested a cleric from
Meerut for allegedly
running the “biggest
conversion syndi-
cate”, a senior police
official said here on
Wednesday
.
Maulana Kaleem
Siddiqui was arrested
by the ATS, which is
probing the racket, at
around 9 pm on Tues-
day from Meerut,
ADG, Law and Order,
Prashant Kumar said.
He was brought to the
ATS headquarters
here after being pro-
duced in a court, Ku-
mar said.
Following the ar-
rest of Delhi’s Jamia
Nagar residents Mufti
Qazi Jahangir Alam
Qasmi and Moham-
mad Umar Gautam,
who ran Islamic
Dawah Centre, an out-
fit allegedly working
on the ISI funding for
converting deaf-mute
students to Islam, on
June 20, the ATS is
probing the conver-
sion racket and has so
far arrested 10 people
besides Siddiqui, the
official said.
He said it came to
light during the probe
that Gautam and his
accomplice were
funded Rs 57 crore by
Britain-based Al-Fa-
laa Trust but the two
did not give details of
its expenditure. It was
also found that Sid-
diqui is involved in
the illegal conversion
racket under the garb
running various edu-
cational, social and
religious organisa-
tions, Kumar said.
“Foreign funding
was done for this (con-
version) in a big way
and the illegal conver-
sion was being car-
ried out in a planned
and organised way
and many well-known
and institutions are
involved in it,” the
ADG said. —PTI
Bareilly: The police
arrested a Bareilly res-
ident, allegedly part of
a Nigerian gang that
duped a Kanpur-based
firm of Rs 2.5 crore
through email spoof-
ing, officials said.
Accused Rukhsad
Hussain, 26, was held
by sleuths of Cyber
Cell, Special Opera-
tions Group and the lo-
cal Faridapur police
station in Bareilly and
Rs 27 lakh cash was re-
covered from his pos-
session, the officials
said. Bareilly SSP Ro-
hit Singh Sajwan said
the cyber gang’s Nige-
rian leader was arrest-
ed on August 25 in the
district after he was
found living in India
without any passport
or visa.
It also transpired
that a Nigerian gang
was active that duped
people by email spoof-
ing (creation of email
messages with a forged
sender address). This
gang had recently
duped a Kanpur-based
firm of Rs 2.5 crore and
transferred the money
into various bank ac-
counts opened on
forged documents, Sa-
jwan told reporters.
The gang also had
some Indian members
whose job was to create
the bank accounts on
forged documents in
which the money would
be transferred. These
members would then
withdraw the money
and get a share for their
work, the officer said.
Hussain, who is pri-
marily a Zari worker,
had got Rs 35.85 lakh
for his role in helping
withdraw the money
earned through the
fraud, he said. —PTI

Noida: The Noida Au-
thority said it has
sealed offices of 11
real estate developers
and club houses in
their group housing
projects over non-
compliance of the Na-
tional Green Tribunal
(NGT) rules.
The action comes a
day after a similar ac-
tion against two de-
velopers for non-func-
tional sewage treat-
ment plants (STPs) at
their projects. The
authority said it had
started an inquiry to
find out if all housing
societies in the city,
had their STPs func-
tional or not.
“In the process of
inquiry, it came to
light that some more
societies either didn’t
have STPs or STPs
were not functional,
which is a violation of
NGT orders,” the au-
thority said.
Sambhal: Tension
erupted after AIMIM
posters came up call-
ing Sambhal land of
‘Ghazis’, an apparent
reference to Islamic
warriors.
The BJP strongly ob-
jected to the posters,
after which these were
removed by workers of
the All-India Majlis-e-
Ittehadul Muslimeen
(AIMIM). The posters
were spotted ahead of
AIMIM chief Asadud-
din Owaisi’s meeting in
Sirsi, where he took on
CM Yogi Adityanath for
his “abba jaan” remark.
Owaisi said he was
the ‘abba’ (father) and
‘chacha’ (uncle) of the
poor and week. BJP
vice-president (UP
wester unit) Rajesh
Singhal said the place
has never been the land
of the “ghazis”.
“This is an election
stunt of Owaisi and we
will not allow them to
succeed in their inten-
tions. None of the cit-
ies in India belonged to
the ‘ghazis’ and we will
not allow them to be-
come one.” —PTI

ADG Prashant Kumar said, it came to the fore that
Siddiqui ran a “biggest conversion syndicate” and
threatened and misled people for conversion and
prepared them for Dawah’ (the act of inviting or
calling people to embrace Islam). The ATS found
he also runs Jamia Imaam Waliullah Trust, which is
carrying out illegal religious conversion in the name
of running ‘communal harmony’ programmes, Kumar
said. Siddiqui is a resident of Muzaffarnagar.

POLITICAL REALITY
t is not the first time
that a court of law
has exhorted politi-
cal parties to keep
criminalsoutof their
fold. In an observation on a sin-
gle-judge Bench of Justice
Pradeep Kumar Srivastava
voiced concern that political par-
tieswelcomegangstersandcrim-
inals and paint them as Robin-
hood. Justice Srivastava said
that all parties should come to-
gether and take a decision on
keepingcriminalsoutof politics.
In August 2021, the Supreme
Court flayed the Centre for its
indifferent approach towards
enacting laws to decriminalize
politics. A Bench of Justices RF
Nariman and BR Gavai said,
“The nation continues to wait,
and is losing patience. Cleans-
ing the polluted stream of poli-
tics is obviously not one of the
pressing concerns of the legisla-
tive branch of government.”
Earlier in 2018, too, the Supreme
Court expressed concern over
the “increasing trend of crimi-
nalization of politics”.
Let courts cry hoarse. As po-
litical parties find criminals in-
dispensable, they won’t be weed-
ed out soon.

London has revised its travel

India was miffed as Britain’s

Covishield, a vaccine manu-
factured in India using Ox-
ford-AstraZenecaformulation
and is a replica of the jab be-
ing administered to Britons.
The Serum Institute of India
which produced Covishield is
recognized the world over for
its high standards. Britain’s
decision was all the more baf-
fling because India had ex-
ported five million doses of
Covishield to Britain. India
saw no reason for the India-

Britain agreeing to recog-
nize Covishield does not
mean that the troubles of In-
dians, including students,
travelling to that country are
over. They are mandatorily
required to quarantine them-
selves for at least a week and
get their RT-PCR tests done
again. That costs a lot of
money and especially bur-
dens tourists and students.
In order to continue its dis-
criminatory policy, Britain
has now raised a new bogey
about vaccination certifi-
cates. The new objection
means that it doubts the genu-
ineness of certificates of vac-
cination issued by COWIN, a
WHO certified platform. The
suspicion stems from several
reported cases in which some
people manipulated patholo-
gy labs to get a negative Cov-
id-19 report for a price. One
such racket was unearthed
from Maharashtra’s Buldha-
na district. More such frauds
were unearthed in Nagpur,
Manipur, Vadodara, Karna-
taka and elsewhere.
The unscrupulous ele-
ments wanting to make a fast
buck have brought disrepute
to the country and created
problems for genuinely vac-
cinated travellers.

AUKUS PACT: A NEW PLATFORM OF
CONTEMPORARY GEO-POLITICS
he hyperactivity of Dragon
‘China’ in the Indo-Pacific
and South China Sea and the
announcement of US$31 mil-
lion (200 million Yuan) in aid
immediately after the an-
nouncement of the formation
of the Taliban government in
Afghanistan not only raised
the concern of Western coun-
tries. But it also added to the
uneasiness of Biden, who is
facing acute criticism in the
Afghan instance.
Ultimately, to balance Chi-
na’s growing influence in the
Indo-Pacific and South China
Sea region, the top leaders of
the US, UK and Australia is-
sued a joint statement in a
virtual meeting on Septem-
ber 15 to form an ambitious
three-way strategic defence
alliance ‘AUKUS PACT’ has
announced. Although the
blueprint of the alliance’s
plan will be ready in the com-
ing 18, the US and UK will
share their technology to im-
prove all military capabili-
ties, including cyber security
,
artificial intelligence and in-
creasing their naval capabili-
ties, with immediate effect.
Australia will be provided
nuclear-powered deadly sub-
marines equipped with state-
of-the-art technology, much
faster and harder to detect
than conventionally powered
fleets, which will be equipped
with ‘Tom Hawk cruise mis-
siles’. Significantly, because
of their unique features, Tom
Hawk cruise missiles are
also called ‘Brahmastra of
America’. The target is to
build a fleet of eight subma-
rines by the year 2040, which
Australia will deploy accord-
ing to its strategic needs. The
technology to build this state-
of-the-art fleet will be pro-
vided by the US and the UK
will provide equipment and
engineering support. It is
noteworthy that after Britain
in 1958, the US is sharing its
submarine technology with
Australia only
.
Australia signed a $90 bil-
lion agreement with France
in 2016 to build 12 diesel-pow-
ered submarines to replace
its existing Collins subma-
rine fleet, which will expire
after the deal. The cancella-
tion of this agreement has
not only dented France’s in-
ternational reputation, but
with huge economic losses,
the vast majority of skilled
people working in this de-
fence sector will face unem-
ployment. Undoubtedly, this
is a major setback for Presi-
dent Emmanuel Macron.
French Foreign Minister
Jean-Yves Le Drian reacted
strongly, calling it incompre-
hensible, saying “this unilat-
eral decision is like the deci-
sions of Donald Trump.” At
the same time, he has also
accused Australia of stab-
bing France in the back.
However, Australia, re-
gardless of France’s dis-
pleasure, has described the
deal as being in line with the
current needs of its country
.
Prime Minister Scott Morri-
son tweeted, “We intend to
build these submarines in
Adelaide in close coopera-
tion with the UK and the US.
But let me be clear, Australia
is not seeking to acquire nu-
clear weapons.” It is clear
from this that self-national
interest is paramount for
Australia, not relations. But
Morrison should remember
that a similar treaty was
signed by the US in 1951 with
New Zealand (ANZUS) which
is now on the margins.
A similar message has
been given by US President
Joe Biden on this occasion,
“It is an investment in our
greatest source of strength.
Our alliance (with Australia
and the UK) and updating
them in such a way that they
can best deal with threats to-
day and in the future. It’s a
new way to connect Ameri-
ca’s current allies and part-
ners.” PM Johnson said in
his address from London -
“The three countries were
‘natural allies’, even though
‘we may be separated geo-
graphically’ and said the alli-
ance would create ‘a new de-
fence partnership and jobs
and prosperity’. “
There has been a sharp re-
action from China on this
deal. Chinese Foreign Minis-
try spokesman Zhao Lijian
said, “The Alliance under-
mines regional peace and
stability and intensifies the
arm race. It shall reinvent a
“Cold War mentality and
ideological prejudice.”
Significantly, after the de-
mand for a judicial probe of
the origin of Coronavirus,
the rift in the friendship be-
tween China and Australia
has now turned into bitter
relations. After Australia
cancelled China’s 5G net-
work project, China not only
banned Australia’s imported
wine and beef, but also re-
duced its investment in Aus-
tralia by 60 percent. In re-
sponse to China’s criticism,
the White House said, “This
alliance is not related to any
one country, but its purpose
is to advance the strategic in-
terests of America, Britain
and Australia and while pro-
moting peace and stability in
the Indo-Pacific. The rules-
based international order
has to be upheld.
Even though the fear of
growing Western countries’
South-East attachment to
China’s response is clearly
visible, it is clear that in the
current scenario, there has
been an unprecedented in-
crease in Australia’s role in
geopolitics on the one hand
and marginalized for a long
time. Even Britain has now
taken its part. How many di-
mensions of success the ju-
galbandi of the these coun-
tries will be able to touch is in
the womb of the future, but
with the help of AUKUS in
the Indo-Pacific and South
China Sea region, US will
definitely be successful in bal-
ancing Iran and North Korea
along with China and Russia.

New Delhi: The Con-
gress party has put all
its opposition parties
on the back foot in Pun-
jab as it has punctured
the agenda on which
the three principal op-
position parties were
about to enter the elec-
tion fray. BJP had an-
nounced that if its govt
is formed, it will make
a Dalit CM in state. Un-
der Dalit politics, BJP
had made former Union
Minister Vijay Singh
Sampla the chairman
of the Scheduled Castes
Commission and it was
believed that he would
be an undeclared face
from BJP as a Dalit CM.
Similarly, the Aam
Aadmi Party had an-
nounced that if its gov-
ernment is formed, the
CM will be a Jat Sikh
but the Deputy CM will
be a Dalit. The AAP has
appointed Cheema as
LoP in the Punjab As-
sembly who hails from
Dalit community
. Akali
Dal has tied up with
BSP for the elections
and it has also an-
nounced that CM will
be from Akali Dal and
Deputy CM will be from
Dalit Community
.
Meanwhile, Congress
has put all the three
parties on the back foot
by making a Dalit CM.
The question is, what
will be the bet for other
parties now? Will the
stake of making Dalit
CM or Dalit Deputy CM
still work for these par-
ties? Right now it seems
that this agenda will
not be of much use. So,
the AAP, which appears
to be far ahead in the
pre-poll surveys, will
have to focus on distrib-
uting free services rath-
er than its Jat, Sikh
Dalit agenda. AAP has
already announced that
it will provide free elec-
tricity water like Del-
hi and perhaps, more
services will be added.
HAS RAHUL PRIYANKA’S
TIME COME?
By removing Captain from post of CM, Cong has marked beginning of new era
Mahesh Sharma
New Delhi: Now, after a
waitspanningyears,the
time has finally  come
for Rahul Gandhi and
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
in Congress politics. In
Punjab, Captain Ama-
rinder Singh’s depar-
turefromthepostof CM
is a sign that now the
leadership of the party
is completely in hands
of Rahul and Priyanka
and Sonia Gandhi will
take the responsibility
of only saying ‘I’m sor-
ry’ to her old allies.
This is the beginning
of new era for the Con-
gress party because by
removing Captain from
the post of Chief Minis-
ter, Rahul Gandhi has
done what he could not
do even when he was the
national president of
the party
. Earlier, Ra-
hul and Priyanka
used to push people
of their choice. They
were also made a minis-
ter in the second govt of
Manmohan Singh,
whileseveralweremade
statepresidentsinmany
states and were kept in
spite of all the failures.
But this is the first
time, when they have
shown the door to such
a big leader. Sonia her-
self hasneverdonesuch
politics as Rahul and
Priyanka have done in
the case of Captain.
Keep in mind that
Amarinder has known
Sonia Gandhi for more
than five decades. He
was close to Rajiv and
Sonia Gandhi from Lon-
don and continued to be
friends with the family
even after returning to
India. He was so close to
Sonia that he never
gave much importance
to Rahul. Even when
Rahul was the national
president, Captain dis-
cussed politics with So-
nia instead of him.
There were also reports
that the captain bluntly
told Rahul that he
would talk to his
mother, Sonia,
about this.
Sonia
had
also advised Rahul that
while talking to the
captain, he should keep
in mind that he was
talking to his father’s
friend. The captain
himself has said that
he has not met Rahul
for two years and Ra-
hul and his close ones
were deeply hurt by
this. All those things
have been accounted
for by the captain.
WHAT SONIA COULD NOT DO RAHUL,
PRIYANKA DID IN ONE STROKE!
In 23 years since Sonia took over the reins of the party,
no such disrespect has happened to anyone. The one
who was seated on the post remained seated. In fact,
people remained CM for 10-15 years. Before Sonia Gan-
dhi, in the tenure of Indira Rajiv Gandhi, there would
rarely be a CM who would have completed term. On
other hand, except in Maha under the command of So-
nia, Rahul and Priyanka, where CMs have been changed
several times, perhaps no CMs have been changed in
any state of the country. In these 3 states, such satraps
were allowed to come to power who later started show-
ing eyes to party high command. However, what Sonia
could not do was done by Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.
Will Congress have to fight Punjab
elections on Charanjit’s name!
NOTHING FOR CAPTAIN
AMARINDER SINGH IN BJP!
Former CM
Congress veteran
Captain has all eyes
on politics of future
and has said that all
avenues are open for
him. This has raised
the political tempera-
ture of Punjab and it
is being said that he
can go to the BJP. It
is also being said that
Centre can amend or
withdraw all 3 agricul-
tural laws after which
captain will go to BJP
and the
party will contest
the next election by
making him face. But
all these seems far-
fetched. So question
is if BJP will change
its rules for 80-year-
old Amarinder Singh?
Moreover, the BJP
has announced to
make a Dalit Chief
Minister and so what
will happen to that?
On the other hand,
Captain is also aware
that BJP will go with
Akali Dal sooner
or later. What
will happen to
Captain family
when this hap-
pens? Therefore,
it is more likely
that Captain and
his family should do
politics by staying
in Congress.

New Delhi: The Adani
Group on Wednesday
has issued a statement
pertaining to the Mun-
dra Port drug bust after
it was subjected to a
massive social media
campaign.
Issuing the state-
ment, the Group said,
on 16 September 2021, a
joint operation by the
DRI and Customs un-
earthed a large cache of
contraband heroin
from two containers
from Afghanistan that
had arrived at the Mun-
dra International Con-
tainer Terminal
(MICT), Mundra Port.
We thank and congratu-
late the DRI Customs
teams for seizing the il-
legal drugs and appre-
hending the accused.
The law empowers
the Government of In-
dia’s competent author-
ities such as the Cus-
toms and the DRI to
open, examine and
seize unlawful cargo.
No port operator across
the country can exam-
ine a container. Their
role is limited to run-
ning a port.
We sincerely hope
that this statement will
put to rest the motivat-
ed, malicious and false
propaganda being run
on social media against
the Adani Group.
APSEZ is a port opera-
tor providing services
to shipping lines. We
have no policing au-
thority or the contain-
ers or the millions of
tonnes of cargo that
pass through the ter-
minals in Mundra or
any of our ports,’ the
statement from the
Group read.
Slamming social me-
dia propaganda peddled
against it, the Group
has said that Adani
Ports and Special Eco-
nomic Zone (APSEZ) is
just a port operator that
provides services to
shipping lines.
Task of identifying booths of SCs to be completed by Nov 30.

Congress general

Harish Rawat is making a
mistake by giving state-
ments about contesting
the next election under
the leadership of Sidhu.
Congress is not going
to get any benefit from
Sidhu’s name, but if this
continues, then Congress
will not get benefit it
wants by making Channi,
first Dalit CM of the state.
If a message goes to the
Dalits that after the elec-
tion, Congress can make
Sidhu or any other Jat
Sikh CM, then their vote
can be divided and Dalits
will also look at those
parties which have an-
nounced to make a Dalit,
CM or Deputy CM. That is
why the Congress should
not talk about the leader-
ship of Sidhu or anyone
else right now. Keep
in mind that Jat Sikh
population is only 16% of
the population of Punjab
and majority of that vote
also goes to Akali Dal. Jat
Sikh has been a voter of
the Akali Dal and has also
voted for the Aam Aadmi
Party in the last elec-
tions. The fundamentalist
Sikhs in them like AAP
 that is when AAP has
announced to make Jat
Sikh CM. So there is no
need for Cong to forward
the name of Sidhu or any
other Jat Sikh.

New Delhi: Domain ex-
pertise and affirmative
framework mark the
latest major Secretary-
level appointments at
Centre. This may seem
to suggest that PM Nar-
endra Modi has come to
grasp that his govern-
ance signature must tilt
in favour of subject spe-
cialists if public and
analysts have to see top-
level appointments as
targeted at establishing
good administration,
for which there is no
substitute.
Readers may recall
that First India was the
first to hint at the pos-
sibility of a wholesale
Secretarial appoint-
ment to remove nag-
ging and lingering
doubts about govern-
ment’s commitment to
maximum governance
through efficient ad-
ministration.
With those doubts re-
moved, latest appoint-
ments, excluding three,
were done to move the
1989-batch officers to
their aspirational and
final posting as they
were empanelled in
February 2021 and were
ratherturningdespond-
ent with days passing
by without bringing
any good news for them.
Excluding Pradip Ku-
mar Tripathi (1987
batchIAS),RajivBansal
(1988 batch IAS) and
Anuradha Prasad
(IDAS 1986), the entire
list of 22 appointees has
only 1989 batch IAS of-
ficers. Of 22 posts, 13
are regular secretaries
whereas 9 were elevated
(in-situ) as Special Sec-
retary to the rank and
pay of Secretary to GoI.
Unlike the past when
secretaries were also
laterally shifted in re-
shuffles, this time only
Steel Secretary PK Tri-
pathi was conferred
this favour to avail of
his domain expertise in
DoPT where he had
worked earlier as Estab-
lishment Officer (EO)
and thus knew the nuts
and bolts of this sensi-
tive department. This
also helped scotch the
rumour that he had
been side-lined. Like
Tripathi, Rajiv Bansal
too was subjected to
wild rumours about his
being side-lined. His ap-
pointment as Civil Avi-
ation Secretary must
have sent rumour mon-
gers to their nightmar-
ish sleep. Bansal is to
replace Pradeep Singh
Kharola who is retiring
at end-month.
Sticking to the do-
main specialisation
principle, Sunil Barth-
wal (1989 batch) was
moved from position of
Central Provident Fund
Commissioner to the
related Labour Em-
ployment portfolio. For-
mer PMO official Anu-
rag Jain (1989 batch
IAS) is put in charge of
the Department for Pro-
motion of Industry and
Internal Trade (DPIIT).
North-East cadre
(Tripura) officer Lok
Ranjan (1989 batch IAS)
is assigned to Ministry
of Development of
North Eastern Region
(DONER). Earlier, even
senior bureaucrats
raised questions over
the rationale of giving
the socio-economically
and culturally complex
domain of DONER to
Naveen Verma (Bihar
cadre IAS) and Inder Jit
Singh (Kerala cadre
IAS). So Lok Ranjan’s
appointment is seen as
plugging a critical gap.
However, the appoint-
ment of Govind Mohan
in the Ministry of Cul-
ture is seen as the only
exception to the general
rule of domain knowl-
edge and expertise fol-
lowed in the latest ap-
pointments. There is a
general impression
among his colleagues
that he was better qual-
ified for portfolios like
DEA, MoRTH or DPIIT.
But considering the im-
portance of Culture
Ministry in the scheme
of the ruling BJP and
Sangh Pariwar, Mo-
han’s appointment can
be termed significant
though for a while.
Finally, reflecting the
government’s commit-
ment to affirmative
gender equality, Ansuli
Arya (1989) is made Sec-
retary to Department of
Official Language, Su-
jata Chaturvedi (1989)
as Secretary Sports,
and Anuradha Prasad
(IDAS, 1986) Secretary
to, Inter-State Council
Secretariat (MHA).
Further, it is pointed
out that since nine ad-
ditional secretary rank
IAS officers were em-
panelled for holding
Secretary-level posts
and were in-situ pro-
moted as Special Secre-
tary in the rank and pay
of Secretary to GoI,
three of them could
have been drafted for
secretary-level posts in
Steel, Drinking Water
Sanitation and Border
Management which
have been left vacant
for unknown reasons.
Another significance of
the latest appointments
lies in fact that it has
cleared the decks for of-
ficers awaiting their
turn for posting as sec-
retary-equivalent, and
Additional Secretary at
Centre. A number of
critical vacancies need
to be filled urgently
.
They are Air India,
IWAI, NHAI, Central
PF Commissioner, Vice
Chairman DDA, Estab-
lishment Officer, Addi-
tional Secretary in
Home, DOPT, Econom-
ic Affairs; Administra-
tor, Universal Service
Obligation Fund;
ASFA Oil Ministry;
Development Commis-
sioner, MSME; CEO
MD of National Indus-
trial Corridor Develop-
ment Corporation Lim-
ited, etc.
Hopefully, when the
PM returns from his
overseas missions, he
may be able to find time
to fix appointments to
these equally critical
organizations.

WORKERS AT

JUNCTION ON
STRIKE AFTER
PRIVATISATION
S
anitation workers at Mathura
Jn station went on strike
from Wednesday to press
for their demands, including PF
and ESI details, officials said.
A supervisor of sanitation
workers alleged that they are
denied details of their PF and ESI
contributions despite a Rs 500
monthly deduction for the same
from their salaries.
“We are denied PF and ESI
number by the manager (of the
company) even though the PF
contribution is deducted from our
salary,” sanitation workers’
supervisor Sunil Chauhan
alleged. He alleged that workers
are asked to resign when they
ask about their PF number or
threatened that they would lose
the job.
Workers are paid a meagre
amount of Rs 7,000 after
deducting their PF contribution,
workers alleged. Divisional
Commercial Manager of Railways
S K Srivastava said that the
incharge of King Security Private
Limited, which has taken the
contract of cleaning of Mathura
Jn, has been ordered to sort out
the problems immediately and
restore normalcy.
He said the company took the
contract about 8 months ago. The
company officials could not be
contacted for comments.
According to a worker Bharat
Chandel, workers had been
promised a wage hike in six
months which remained
unfulfilled. Another worker said

FARMER DIES
AFTER
CONSUMING
SUSPECTED
SPURIOUS
LIQUOR IN AGRA
The death of 18 people in the
district of Agra due to con-
sumption of spurious liquor did
not stop the supply of spurious
liquor. On Wednesday a farmer
passed after supposedly drinking
spurious liquor sold in a house
in the village as per relatives of
the deceased. 35-year-old Shri
Krishna, a resident of Jamuni vil-
lage had on Tuesday before going
to his farm bought liquor from a
home and consumed it. When he
returned home after work in the
evening, he began losing sight,
but he didn’t think of it much and
went to sleep. After waking up on
Wednesday, he began vomiting
as well as started losing sight and
he faced started to turn blue. He
was taken to a shack for medi-
cine from where he was referred
to Agra but he died on the way
to the hospital. The police were
informed as the relatives of the
deceased suspected that he died
due to consumption of spurious
liquor. Venkat Ashok, SP (East-
ern) reached the spot and began
preliminary investigation into
the death. The SP said that the
relatives suspect that Sri Krishna
passed away due to spurious
liquor as his health began deterio-
rating only after consumption of
liquor from a house in the village.
He further added that further
action will be taken only after
the post-mortem report of the
deceased is received by the police.

SIT. The SIT asked 70
questions in 13 hours to
his disciple Anand Giri,
who was named in the
death of Mahant Naren-
dra Giri, president of
Akhil Bharatiya Akha-

Anand was confronted
with Aadya Tiwari, the
chief priest of the Ha-
numan temple, and his
son Sandeep Tiwari.
The three were interro-
gated for about two and
a half hours after sit-
ting together. All three
reiterated the same
thing that this suicide
note was not written by
Mahant Narendra Giri.
He can’t even write that
much. During interro-
gation, the three admit-
ted that they had differ-
ences with Mahant, but
there is some deep con-
spiracy behind their
death. If sources are to

hours-long interroga-
tion, Anand Giri kept
saying Mahant could

The final process was

note. Earlier, a panel of
5 doctors conducted the
post-mortem of his
body at Swaroop Rani
Nehru Hospital. The
post-mortem report
will be sent to CM in a
sealed cover.
In the initial report,
the matter of hanging
has come to the fore. At
the same time, accused
in the suicide note
Anand Giri and Aadya
have been sent to judi-
cial custody for 14 days.
On reaching the court,
supporters of Naren-
dra Giri scuffled with
both. Due to this, the
police took both of
them to Naini Central

13 Akharas have com-
pletely denied the mat-
ter of suicide note. Due
to this, the meeting of

sor has been postponed.
On the other hand, af-
ter the Samadhi pro-
cess, the interrogation
of Balveer, the succes-
sor declared in the sui-
cide note of Narendra
Giri, has started. The
SIT reached inside the
monastery itself. SP,
DM are also together.
In fact, till yesterday,
Balveer, who was call-
ing himself the next
heir to the throne,
turned his back on his
statement. Now they
say that who will be the
successor, this decision
will be taken by Panch
Parmeshwar. Earlier,
Balveer was saying
that the writing of Gu-
ruji Narendra Giri is in
the suicide letter and
he was ready to be the
successor but now he
said that he did not rec-
ognize his writing. Af-
ter the post-mortem,
the body of the Mahant
was taken and bathed
in Ganges at Sangam.

Khan who is lodged in

for third consecutive
days. Sources have stat-
ed that the ED officials
grilled Azam Khan on
how he was able to build

as the ED suspects that
there could have been
big scam in the land ac-
quisition for the univer-
sity. The team of ED
which reached Sitapur

for 4 straight hours
about the Jauhar Uni-
versity. Interestingly
enough, the ED has
grilled only Azam Khan
during the raids and
left out his son Abdul-

The team of ED wanted
to know from Azam
Khan as to how he was
able to land acquisition
for the university, if the
government’s money
was used for the univer-
sity when the SP was in
power in the state. The
ED asked Azam as to

donations made for the
university from outside
India or not.

Lucknow: Fortheforth-
coming 2022 UP assem-
bly elections, the youth
team of state election
in-charge Dharmendra
Pradhan will start its
election exercise from
Thursday on behalf of
the BJP high command.
The party’s strategy
is to capture most of the
seats in the Purvanchal
region of UP adjoining
Bihar, apart from other
areas of UP. Therefore,
it will be a big challenge
for Dharmendra Prad-
han to win maximum
number of seats in this
region. The Central
High Command has giv-
en seven co-in-charges
for the support of Union
Minister Dharmendra
Pradhan, who has
shown the effect of his
organizational
ability in the
neighbouring
state of Bihar,
most of them be-
ing youths, about
whom the party has
high hopes. It is note-
worthy that Dharmen-
dra Pradhan, who hails
from Odisha, comes
from the OBC commu-
nity
. His father Deven-
dra Pradhan has also
been a BJP MP
.
The entire team of
Dharmendra Pradhan
including Anurag
Thakur, Saroj
Pandey, Arjun
Ram Meghwal,
Shobha Karand-
laje, Captain Ab-
himanyu, Annapur-
na Devi and Vivek
Thakurwilldecidetheir
election strategy
.
Many small parties in
Purvanchal are prepar-
ing to oppose the BJP.
That is why BJP is fo-
cusing on Purvanchal to
take a front from these
parties. There are some
156 seats in 26 districts.
If we look at the last as-
sembly elections, n, the
BJP got 106 seats,
achieving great success.
On the other hand, SP
won 18 seats, BSP 12,
Apna Dal 8, Suheldev
Bharatiya Samaj Party
4, Congress 4 and Ni-
shad Party 1 seat, while
3 independent candi-
dates registered a win.
But now the political
scenario has completely
changed.
Last time BJP was in
opposition,thistimeitis
in power. It has account-
ability in elections. As
far as Lok Sabha is con-
cerned, out of 29 seats in
Purvanchal, BJP got 22
seats in the Lok Sabha
elections while the SP
and BSP alliance won 6
seats. Similarly
, only one
seat came in the account
of Congress.
BSP also has influ-
ence in some seats here.
Purvanchal is also the
laboratory of small par-
ties of UP and these in-
clude Apna Dal(S), Ni-
shad Party, Suheldev
Bharatiya Samaj Party
and Janawadi Party
. At
present, the Nishad
Party and Apna Dal (S)
are in alliance with the
BJP while the Janwadi
Party has an alliance
with the SP. Together
they are trying to defeat
BJP.

The way the AAP is

raised the concerns of

Party leaders claim that
83 district panchayat
members, 232 BDCs and
more than 300 gram
pradhan have won with
its support. It is also
claimed that about four
million rural voters of
the state have voted for
AAP
.
Recently

, it
was said that these in-
charges would also be
potential candidates of
the party from their re-
spective constituencies
In UP assembly elec-

, eyeing on
OBCs, Dalits and Mus-
lim voters as well, the
AAP is following the
strategy on the lines of
the Delhi model. Here
too the bet of free elec-

on. Recently
, Deputy CM
Manish Sisodia has an-
nounced that if voted to
power, his government

ity up to 300 units to all
domestic consumers of
the state. But political
analysts believe that the
poll plank of freebies
maynotbeaseffectivein
UP
, as here caste equa-
tions and organisational
strength outweigh all is-
sues. so it is not easy for
any new political player
to emerge as a substan-
tial alternative in UP

‘UP will shower more blessing on BJP’
Lucknow: The people
of Uttar Pradesh will
give even more seats to
the BJP and ensure its
candidates’ victory on
an even greater number
of seats in the upcom-
ing 2022 assembly elec-
tions, Union Minister
Anurag Thakur
claimed on Wednesday
.
Union Minister for
Information Broad-
casting and Youth Af-
fairs Sports Thakur,
who is also the BJP’s
election co-in charge in
the state, expressed this
optimism during his
visit here.
“This time the peo-
ple of UP will shower
more blessings, give
more votes and seats (to
the BJP),” he told re-
porters here. BJP vice-
president and UP in-
charge Radha Mohan
Singh and Union minis-

sent. Before the com-

Lucknow: Samajwadi
Party chief Akhilesh
Yadav on Wednesday
accused the Yogi Adity-
anath government of
usurping the credit of
his developmental work
in Uttar Pradesh and
failing to even read the
BJP manifesto, forget
about keeping its poll
promises.
In a statement, he
also charged the saffron
party government with
weakening the democ-
racy of the country by
“sustained attack on
various institutions”.
“The BJP has no
shame (laaz) that it did
not read even a single
page of its ‘sankalp
patra’ of 2017 assembly
elections and failed to
implement any of the
promises,” Yadav said,
adding ahead of the as-
sembly polls, they have
now begun beating
their own trumpet
through advertise-
ments.
“This attitude of
breaking promises
(wadakhilaphi) is a
form of corruption.
Spending state resourc-
es without doing any
work of public interest
is betrayal with the peo-
ple,” he said.
The SP president al-
leged that the saffron
party would try to “ma-
nipulate” voting at the
booth level during the
elections early next year
and asked party work-
ers to be cautious of it.

New Delhi: The Su-

Wednesday asked both
the UP government and
officials of Allahabad
High Court to sit to-
gether and jointly sub-
mit the suggestions for
regulating the matters
of bail applications
during the pendency of
the appeals of the con-
victed persons.
The top court said if
the suggestions are not
given, then it may for-
mulate some guidelines
on its own. A bench of
Justices Sanjay Kishan
Kaul and B R Gavai said
that Allahabad High
Court registry has 20-25
page suggestions which
are like counter-sugges-
tions to those already
given by UP govern-
ment.
The SC was informed
that High Court had
filed the suggestions on
Tuesday evening.“State
government has said
something and now you
(Allahabad HC) have
said something. They
have given suggestions
and now you have given
counter-suggestions of
20-25 pages. How are we
supposed to zero in on
the most suitable ones?
If you are unable to give
suggestionsthenwewill
formulate some guide-
lines on our own,” the
bench said

New Delhi: Congress
Rajya Sabha member
Ripun Bora on Wednes-
day claimed 45 BJP MPs
belong to political dy-
nasties and that it is the
“highest” in any party
in the country
.
Attacking the BJP
that has often accused
the Congress of dynas-
tic politics, Bora alleged
the saffron party gives
the impression that the
family-based politics
has no place in it while
spreading “false propa-
ganda” against its ri-
vals.Around 45 MPs out
of the total 388 BJP MPs
of both Houses of Par-
liament fall in the fami-
ly-based category, he
claimed in a statement.
The Rajya Sabha MP
alleged that the BJP has
been spreading false
propaganda that only
members of the Gandhi
family become prime
ministers when the
Congress is in power.
Among the six Con-
gress PMs, only three
came from the Gandhi
family
, he said Bora also
named 27 families
whose two or more
members are either
now or in the past were
holding different posts
in the BJP or in the par-
ty-led governments.
Atrocity against
women and rising
crime graph are the
hallmarks of the BJP
rule in Uttar Pradesh,
Akhilesh said.

with the dashing Dev
Anand in a split sec-
ond! Dressed in all
black, his face in light
and shadows amid the hanging
lamps at the ‘kotha’, though the
sexy puff is missing… Dev hits
the mark!
In Kala Pani, Dev gave one of
his finest performances, in my
opinion, he was restrained, nat-
ural, the typical ‘happy-go-
lucky’ mannerisms were there
but just enough to mark his
style with an intensity that the
role demanded. The swagger
surfaced now and then especial-
ly in the ‘all famous’ duet with
Madhubala, ‘Achcha ji main
haari’. What a song! The natu-
ral love and trust that they both
display in the movie was beauti-
fully reinforced in this iconic
song!
In Kala Pani, we have a Dev
who does not sing much, does
not whistle much either, his sig-
nature style persona is missing
in this movie but Dev Anand
brings a depth to the role of an
estranged son who goes in
search of justice for his jailed
father. He is determined and
rugged, vulnerable and strong,
a man who fights with his con-
science as he ‘falsely’ woos Na-
lini. My favourite song-dance
sequence by Nalini is
‘Nazar laagi Raja tore
bangla par’, she is
gracefully execut-
ing the kathak steps with
aplomb.
Both the lady stars had excel-
lent roles, though Madhubala
had a smaller one. She plays a
working woman, a reporter and
is strong, independent, confi-
dent and open- a relevance in
those times with no overt dra-
matics or dialogues! That she is
amazingly beautiful is not some-
thing that can be overlooked, as
Dev finds when he sees her for
the first time! In fact, Nalini as
the kothewali brings a muted
grace to her scenes, she is digni-
fied and restrained even when
she realises that there is a ‘rea-
son’ behind the ‘love’ of Dev
Anand.
Actually, the entire movie
flows naturally, it is fast-paced
and there is very little drama
and histrionics, the song pic-
turizations are beautiful and the
songs actually further the plot.
This week, watch Kala Pani !

ately, we have
been explor-
ing vegan reci-
pes, super-
foods, dietary
supplements,
and all the
other related things
quite a lot. (No, we are
not yet ready to be-
come Vegans our-
selves, but we are kind
of making conscious
switches wherever we
can.) Coming back to
this week’s vegan
exploration, we
were kind of re-
introduced with
n u t r i t i o n a l
yeast. So, most
of us know this
yeast type as an
alternative to
cheese in most ve-
gan recipes. Fasci-
nated by its creamy
texture and cheesy
flavour, we got into
our ‘food geek’ selves
to understand its for-
mation, nutritional
value, and everything
in between. And, oh
boy, were we aston-
ished by our findings!
Let’s begin with the
basics.
WHAT EXACTLY IS
NUTRITIONAL YEAST AND
HOW IS IT CULTIVATED?
Nutritional yeast is
nothing like regular
yeast (or not). While
your regular yeast is
alive, ferments the
dough and doesn’t
have a distinguished
taste, nutritional
yeast is deactivated
yeast, does not have
lead to any fermenta-
tion and is mostly
used as a flavouring
agent. It is regarded
as a plant-based yeast
because it is specially
grown from molasses
or wood pulp and the
yeast cells are not
alive during cooking.
To elaborate for better
understanding, the
yeast is cultivated on
sugary mediums like
sugar cane, molasses,
etc. After growing for
several days, it is pas-
teurized and deacti-
vated, forming a paste
which is then rolled
out, dried completely
and turned into flakes
or powder before
packaging.
The real catch be-
hind the B12-rich nu-
tritional yeast. Well,
in its original form,
the nutritional yeast
may have
limited vitamins and
minerals but most
manufacturers fortify
the yeast with nutri-
ents, especially Vita-
min B12M B6, folate
and traces of oth-
er B vitamins to sup-
plement the yeast with
the dietary require-
ments of vegans.
Apart from being
packed with B vita-
mins, there are so
many other benefits
of nutritional yeast.
AN ENERGY BOOSTER
Consuming the recom-
mended dosage of B12-
rich nutritional yeast
can really work won-
ders to boost me-
tabolism and
speed up
r e d
blood
cell creation, improv-
ing your energy levels
significantly
.
HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS
TOO
Nutritional yeast con-
tains antioxidants
like glutathione and
selenomethionine
that can help prevent
cell damage, enabling
the body to effectively
fight multiple diseas-
es including heart ill-
nesses, macular de-
generation, etc. The
yeast is also believed
to reduce the risk of
cancer due to the high
level of vitamins,
minerals, and antioxi-
dants present in it.
Nutritional yeast is
indeed more than just
an alternative to
cheese for vegans and
of course, healthier.
Now, the real question
is how to consume nu-
tritional yeast in a
way that you enjoy,
whether you are a ve-
gan or not!
Yummy ways to use
nutritional yeast in
your everyday recipes.
Nutritional yeast is re-
ally versatile and there
are such fun ways that
you can incorporate it
on your food.
Did You Know? Nu-
tritional yeast is
also referred to as
‘Nooch.’
Funny name, right?
ANYHOO, LET’S GET BACK
TO THE RECIPES:
1
One cannot just
forget the yeast
twist to the clas-
sic mac and cheese.
Aahh, the beautiful
cheese-like umami fla-
vour that it gets makes
it an absolute try once
recipe.
2
Making tomato
or pesto sauces
for pastas? Re-
place the parmesan
with nutritional yeast
and you can thank us
later!
3
Mix it up in the
dips, guacamole,
or that vegan sal-
sa with the snacks,
sliders, chips, and
more.
4
Not in a mood to
cook but craving
some nutritional
yeast. Just sprinkle
some on your popcorn
(microwave it for a
minute for that irre-
sistible flavour),
soups, and salads. It
tastes heavenly!
Whether you are a
vegan or not, inculcat-
ing nutritional yeast
in your diet is highly
recommended. How-
ever, it is important to
understand the power
of moderation and
please do not overdo it
as an excess of this
yeast intake may re-
sult in a kind of facial
flushing and indiges-
tion. And, of course,
if you are intolerant
to yeast or have yeast
allergies, it’s best to
stay away and find
other alternatives.
Otherwise, go try the
B12-fortified nutri-
tional yeast and do
share any unique reci-
pes that you might be
cooking using this
yeast. Deal?
Whether you are a
Yeast your way to
Yeast your way to

  • 1. Great men belong to nation, not to caste : Yogi First India Bureau Lucknow: “A nation that forgets its history and traditions cannot protect its geography. Bhoj’s life was dedicat- ed to preserving India’s glorious past and na- tional prestige. Simi- larly, today’s India has risen above caste and community politics in national interest. We don’t discriminate among people on the ba- sis of caste and commu- nity. Our priority is de- velopment, irrespective of caste of creed,” CM Yogi Adityanath said on Wednesday at Dadri where he unveiled a statue of Mihir Bhoj, a ninth-century king. He said that great men belong to the na- tion and not to any caste or community . “Taliban reminds us of those for- eign invaders who force- fully entered India and played havoc with our rich culture and history . Unfortunately , there are people within India that support Taliban. We have to guard against this mindset for the hon- our of our daughters and sisters,” the CM re- marked. CM Yogi said that Raja Bhoj believed in nationalism and it was because of the sense of security given by him to the people of the country that foreign invaders did not attack India for one-and-a-half centuries after his rule. www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia LUCKNOW l THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 l Pages 12 l 3.00 RNI NO. Taliban wants to address UN,names representative United Nations: The Taliban, Afghanistan’s new rulers for a matter of weeks, are challeng- ing the credentials of their country’s former UN ambassador and wanttospeakattheGen- eral Assembly’s high- level meeting of world leaders this week, the international body says. The question now fac- ing UN officials comes just over a month after the Taliban, ejected from Afghanistan by the United States and its allies after 9/11, swept back into power as US forces prepared to with- draw from the country at the end of August. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said Secretary-General An- tonio Guterres received a communication on September 15 from the currently accredited Af- ghan Ambassador, Ghu- lam Isaczai, with the list of Afghanistan’sdelega- tion for the assembly’s 76th annual session. The Taliban said it was nominating a new UN permanent repre- sentative, Mohammad Suhail Shaheen, the UN spokesman said. Officials have implied the problem is not Covishield but doubts over vaccine certification in India. AFTER INDIA PROTESTS, UK ADDS COVISHIELD TO APPROVED VAX LIST London: The United Kingdom Wednesday added Cov- ishield to its list of approved Covid-19 vaccines for travel to the country. However, there is confusion over the UK government’s vaccine recognition process for Indian travellers as even though Covishield is on an updated international travel advisory, India is not yet on a list of 17 approved countries. The UK’s Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has said on Wednesday that they are unable to confirm this and will require further clarifica- tions even though the advisory states, “Formulations of the 4 listed vaccines, such as AstraZeneca Covishield, AstraZeneca Vaxzevria and Moderna Takeda.” If Sidhu behaves as the super CM, the party won’t function. The AIMIM had re- cently announced that it would contest 100 seats in the assembly polls next year by tying up with Rajbhar-led SBSP and its Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha. Rajbhar, who was a cab- inet minister in the Yogi Adityanath gov- ernment, had resigned before the Lok Sabha polls in 2019 and later launched the Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha as a political front of small- er parties. —PTI 8 antique idols stolen from temple in Ayodhya distt Anand Giri: The monk who owns a Ferrari Mahant Narendra Giri laid to rest at Baghambari Muth Pryagraj: The last rites of Akhil Bharati- ya Akhara Parishad president Mahant Narendra Giri were performed here on Wednesday at Ba- ghambari Muth, where the seer was buried in samadhi two days after he was found dead . Earlier in the day, a panel of five doctors conducted an autop- sy, after which the body was given a bath at the Sangam, the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Sarasvati rivers. Meanwhile, the se- er’s two disciples Anand Giri and Aad- hya Prasad Tiwari were produced in a lo- cal court, which sent them to a 14-day judi- cial custody . The seer was given the “bhoo samadhi” under a lemon tree in the Muth around 3 pm. Office-bearers of several “akhadas” and the seer’s family mem- bers, including his sis- ter, were present on the occasion. Deputy Chief Min- ister Keshav Prasad Maurya and a large number of people turned up on the occa- sion. After the post- mortem, the body was brought to Ba- ghambari Muth where it was kept in a special vehicle cov- ered with flower gar- lands. —PTI First India Bureau Lucknow: As many as eight antique idols of Ram, Janki, Lakshman and Hanuman were sto- len from a temple in Khapdeeh area in Bika- pur here, police said on Wednesday . Police sources here said that a police team along with forensic team and dog squad reached the temple to investigate. Police have interrogated the priest of the temple about the incident and it has been learnt that there were nine idols in the temple but the thieves left one of them behind. The thieves did not touch the rock idols and instead took away eight antique idols made of alloyed (ashtdhatu) , po- lice sources said. Sobhnath Tewari, the priest of the temple, said he found the lock of the main gate broken and the idols missing. He informed police im- mediately . Earlier, idols of Ram, Janki, Lakshman and Hanuman were stolen from the same temple some 15 years back, however the accused be- hind the theft were nev- er arrested. Vishal Srivastav Lucknow: Before being dubbed as an accused in the al- leged suicide of re- nowned seer and Akhara Parishad head Mahant Nar- endra Giri, Anand Giri was arrested by the Australian police in 2019 – on charges of misbe- having with women in Sydney and was . later released on bail by a metropoli- tan court. By no means does Anand Giri live a life of auster- ity and renuncia- tion that sadhus in India are known for. Instead, the 38-year- old owns high-end bikes, a super car, and most of what money can buy. Police sources have said that in May this year, Anand Giri and his Guru, Mahant Narendra Giri, had a tussle. It was a result of Anand’s out-of- bounds lifestyle, coupled with indis- cipline of breach- ing the lines and rules laid down by the Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad for sadhus across India. Anand Giri was hand-picked by Narendra Giri from Haridwar when he was just 12 years old. Since then, he had been in the service of Narendra Giri. First India Bureau Lucknow: It has been three years of Ayush- man Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yo- jana (ABPMJAY) and time has proved that in spite of adverse circum- stances like Covid-19 pandemic, every effort has been made to reach more and more people from the weaker section of the society through this scheme. According to Sangee- ta Singh, CEO of the State Agency for Com- prehensive Health In- surance and Integrated Services (Sachis), about 1.5 crore eligible beneficiaries in Uttar Pradesh received facili- ty of ‘Golden Card’ whichwillprovidethem health care benefits free of cost. Lucknow: All-India Congress general sec- retary Priyanka Gand- hi will be addressing her first mega election rally in Meerut on Sep- tember 29 for which the West UP Congress leaders have launched massive preparations. The Congress has also planned a series of rallies of Priyanka Gandhi in Gorakhpur, Varanasi and in Bun- delkhand region in next few months. The Meerut rally will be the party’s first major reach out to crucial western UP which re- turns 120 MLAs and has been hotspot of farmers movement for the past nine months. She is scheduled to ad- dress rally in Varanasi, parliamentary constit- uency of Prime Minis- ter Narendra Modi, on October 2 or 3. The party sources said that she is likely to spell out programmes and policies of Con- gress for the 2022 as- sembly election. While the Congress is com- mitted to continue its opposition to three con- troversial farm laws, Priyanka Gandhi, who has been regularly tweeting on the issue, will also make efforts to directly connect with the hostile farmers community in the re- gion. The action plan of these rallies was final- ised on Monday through video confer- ence in which it was decided to start reach- ing out to the people without further delay. West UP has been cho- sen in view of electoral composition of OBC-Muslims and Dal- its. Already Jat commu- nity has turned hostile because of Central gov- ernment’s farm laws. The Congress would also try to regain trust of Dalit community through its move to ap- point first Dalit chief minister in Punjab Charanjit Singh Chan- ni. Sources said the party would be inviting him to UP to address meetings. —PTI Cong prepares ground for Priyanka mega rally in Meerut CAMPAIGN SPREE MAYA ATTACK UP cleric held for running ‘biggest’ conversion racket Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror- ist Squad (ATS) has arrested a cleric from Meerut for allegedly running the “biggest conversion syndi- cate”, a senior police official said here on Wednesday . Maulana Kaleem Siddiqui was arrested by the ATS, which is probing the racket, at around 9 pm on Tues- day from Meerut, ADG, Law and Order, Prashant Kumar said. He was brought to the ATS headquarters here after being pro- duced in a court, Ku- mar said. Following the ar- rest of Delhi’s Jamia Nagar residents Mufti Qazi Jahangir Alam Qasmi and Moham- mad Umar Gautam, who ran Islamic Dawah Centre, an out- fit allegedly working on the ISI funding for converting deaf-mute students to Islam, on June 20, the ATS is probing the conver- sion racket and has so far arrested 10 people besides Siddiqui, the official said. He said it came to light during the probe that Gautam and his accomplice were funded Rs 57 crore by Britain-based Al-Fa- laa Trust but the two did not give details of its expenditure. It was also found that Sid- diqui is involved in the illegal conversion racket under the garb running various edu- cational, social and religious organisa- tions, Kumar said. “Foreign funding was done for this (con- version) in a big way and the illegal conver- sion was being car- ried out in a planned and organised way and many well-known and institutions are involved in it,” the ADG said. —PTI Bareilly: The police arrested a Bareilly res- ident, allegedly part of a Nigerian gang that duped a Kanpur-based firm of Rs 2.5 crore through email spoof- ing, officials said. Accused Rukhsad Hussain, 26, was held by sleuths of Cyber Cell, Special Opera- tions Group and the lo- cal Faridapur police station in Bareilly and Rs 27 lakh cash was re- covered from his pos- session, the officials said. Bareilly SSP Ro- hit Singh Sajwan said the cyber gang’s Nige- rian leader was arrest- ed on August 25 in the district after he was found living in India without any passport or visa. It also transpired that a Nigerian gang was active that duped people by email spoof- ing (creation of email messages with a forged sender address). This gang had recently duped a Kanpur-based firm of Rs 2.5 crore and transferred the money into various bank ac- counts opened on forged documents, Sa- jwan told reporters. The gang also had some Indian members whose job was to create the bank accounts on forged documents in which the money would be transferred. These members would then withdraw the money and get a share for their work, the officer said. Hussain, who is pri- marily a Zari worker, had got Rs 35.85 lakh for his role in helping withdraw the money earned through the fraud, he said. —PTI First India Bureau Noida: The Noida Au- thority said it has sealed offices of 11 real estate developers and club houses in their group housing projects over non- compliance of the Na- tional Green Tribunal (NGT) rules. The action comes a day after a similar ac- tion against two de- velopers for non-func- tional sewage treat- ment plants (STPs) at their projects. The authority said it had started an inquiry to find out if all housing societies in the city, had their STPs func- tional or not. “In the process of inquiry, it came to light that some more societies either didn’t have STPs or STPs were not functional, which is a violation of NGT orders,” the au- thority said. Sambhal: Tension erupted after AIMIM posters came up call- ing Sambhal land of ‘Ghazis’, an apparent reference to Islamic warriors. The BJP strongly ob- jected to the posters, after which these were removed by workers of the All-India Majlis-e- Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). The posters were spotted ahead of AIMIM chief Asadud- din Owaisi’s meeting in Sirsi, where he took on CM Yogi Adityanath for his “abba jaan” remark. Owaisi said he was the ‘abba’ (father) and ‘chacha’ (uncle) of the poor and week. BJP vice-president (UP wester unit) Rajesh Singhal said the place has never been the land of the “ghazis”. “This is an election stunt of Owaisi and we will not allow them to succeed in their inten- tions. In an observation on a sin- gle-judge Bench of Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava voiced concern that political par- tieswelcomegangstersandcrim- inals and paint them as Robin- hood. Justice Srivastava said that all parties should come to- gether and take a decision on keepingcriminalsoutof politics. In August 2021, the Supreme Court flayed the Centre for its indifferent approach towards enacting laws to decriminalize politics. A Bench of Justices RF Nariman and BR Gavai said, “The nation continues to wait, and is losing patience. Cleans- ing the polluted stream of poli- tics is obviously not one of the pressing concerns of the legisla- tive branch of government.” Earlier in 2018, too, the Supreme Court expressed concern over the “increasing trend of crimi- nalization of politics”. Let courts cry hoarse. As po- litical parties find criminals in- dispensable, they won’t be weed- ed out soon. I fter India warned the United King- dom of reciprocal measures over vaccine “racism”, London has revised its travel andquarantinerulestorecog- nize Covishield as a genuine vaccine against coronavirus. India was miffed as Britain’s earlierrulesdidnotrecognize Covishield, a vaccine manu- factured in India using Ox- ford-AstraZenecaformulation and is a replica of the jab be- ing administered to Britons. The Serum Institute of India which produced Covishield is recognized the world over for its high standards. Britain’s decision was all the more baf- fling because India had ex- ported five million doses of Covishield to Britain. India saw no reason for the India- manufacturedjabnottogetits due recognition. Britain agreeing to recog- nize Covishield does not mean that the troubles of In- dians, including students, travelling to that country are over. They are mandatorily required to quarantine them- selves for at least a week and get their RT-PCR tests done again. That costs a lot of money and especially bur- dens tourists and students. In order to continue its dis- criminatory policy, Britain has now raised a new bogey about vaccination certifi- cates. The new objection means that it doubts the genu- ineness of certificates of vac- cination issued by COWIN, a WHO certified platform. The suspicion stems from several reported cases in which some people manipulated patholo- gy labs to get a negative Cov- id-19 report for a price. One such racket was unearthed from Maharashtra’s Buldha- na district. More such frauds were unearthed in Nagpur, Manipur, Vadodara, Karna- taka and elsewhere. The unscrupulous ele- ments wanting to make a fast buck have brought disrepute to the country and created problems for genuinely vac- cinated travellers. UK REVISES TRAVEL RULES TO PUT UP ANOTHER HURDLE Britain’s decision was all the more baffling because India had exported five million doses of Covishield to Britain. India saw no reason for the India- manufactured jab not to get its due recognition A AUKUS PACT: A NEW PLATFORM OF CONTEMPORARY GEO-POLITICS he hyperactivity of Dragon ‘China’ in the Indo-Pacific and South China Sea and the announcement of US$31 mil- lion (200 million Yuan) in aid immediately after the an- nouncement of the formation of the Taliban government in Afghanistan not only raised the concern of Western coun- tries. But it also added to the uneasiness of Biden, who is facing acute criticism in the Afghan instance. Ultimately, to balance Chi- na’s growing influence in the Indo-Pacific and South China Sea region, the top leaders of the US, UK and Australia is- sued a joint statement in a virtual meeting on Septem- ber 15 to form an ambitious three-way strategic defence alliance ‘AUKUS PACT’ has announced. Although the blueprint of the alliance’s plan will be ready in the com- ing 18, the US and UK will share their technology to im- prove all military capabili- ties, including cyber security , artificial intelligence and in- creasing their naval capabili- ties, with immediate effect. Australia will be provided nuclear-powered deadly sub- marines equipped with state- of-the-art technology, much faster and harder to detect than conventionally powered fleets, which will be equipped with ‘Tom Hawk cruise mis- siles’. Significantly, because of their unique features, Tom Hawk cruise missiles are also called ‘Brahmastra of America’. The target is to build a fleet of eight subma- rines by the year 2040, which Australia will deploy accord- ing to its strategic needs. The technology to build this state- of-the-art fleet will be pro- vided by the US and the UK will provide equipment and engineering support. It is noteworthy that after Britain in 1958, the US is sharing its submarine technology with Australia only . Australia signed a $90 bil- lion agreement with France in 2016 to build 12 diesel-pow- ered submarines to replace its existing Collins subma- rine fleet, which will expire after the deal. The cancella- tion of this agreement has not only dented France’s in- ternational reputation, but with huge economic losses, the vast majority of skilled people working in this de- fence sector will face unem- ployment. Undoubtedly, this is a major setback for Presi- dent Emmanuel Macron. French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian reacted strongly, calling it incompre- hensible, saying “this unilat- eral decision is like the deci- sions of Donald Trump.” At the same time, he has also accused Australia of stab- bing France in the back. However, Australia, re- gardless of France’s dis- pleasure, has described the deal as being in line with the current needs of its country . Prime Minister Scott Morri- son tweeted, “We intend to build these submarines in Adelaide in close coopera- tion with the UK and the US. But let me be clear, Australia is not seeking to acquire nu- clear weapons.” It is clear from this that self-national interest is paramount for Australia, not relations. But Morrison should remember that a similar treaty was signed by the US in 1951 with New Zealand (ANZUS) which is now on the margins. A similar message has been given by US President Joe Biden on this occasion, “It is an investment in our greatest source of strength. Our alliance (with Australia and the UK) and updating them in such a way that they can best deal with threats to- day and in the future. It’s a new way to connect Ameri- ca’s current allies and part- ners.” PM Johnson said in his address from London - “The three countries were ‘natural allies’, even though ‘we may be separated geo- graphically’ and said the alli- ance would create ‘a new de- fence partnership and jobs and prosperity’. “ There has been a sharp re- action from China on this deal. Chinese Foreign Minis- try spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “The Alliance under- mines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arm race. It shall reinvent a “Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice.” Significantly, after the de- mand for a judicial probe of the origin of Coronavirus, the rift in the friendship be- tween China and Australia has now turned into bitter relations. After Australia cancelled China’s 5G net- work project, China not only banned Australia’s imported wine and beef, but also re- duced its investment in Aus- tralia by 60 percent. In re- sponse to China’s criticism, the White House said, “This alliance is not related to any one country, but its purpose is to advance the strategic in- terests of America, Britain and Australia and while pro- moting peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific. The rules- based international order has to be upheld. Even though the fear of growing Western countries’ South-East attachment to China’s response is clearly visible, it is clear that in the current scenario, there has been an unprecedented in- crease in Australia’s role in geopolitics on the one hand and marginalized for a long time. Even Britain has now taken its part. How many di- mensions of success the ju- galbandi of the these coun- tries will be able to touch is in the womb of the future, but with the help of AUKUS in the Indo-Pacific and South China Sea region, US will definitely be successful in bal- ancing Iran and North Korea along with China and Russia. THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY THE AUTHOR ARE PERSONAL T There has been a sharp reaction from China on this deal. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said, “The Alliance undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arm race. It shall reinvent a “Cold War mentality and ideological prejudice.” Even though the fear of growing Western countries’ South-East attachment to China’s response is clearly visible, it is clear that in the current scenario, there has been an unprecedented increase in Australia’s role in geopolitics on the one hand and marginalized for a long time DR SURESH YADAV The writer is freelancer and commentator on International Affairs Five years after the establishment of the QUAD, a triangular defence alliance of the US, UK and Australia to engage the Dragon in the Indo-Pacific and the South China Sea region

INDIA LUCKNOW | THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2021 05 www.firstindia.co.in I www.firstindia.co.in/epaper/ I twitter.com/thefirstindia I facebook.com/thefirstindia I instagram.com/thefirstindia Anita Hada New Delhi: The Con- gress party has put all its opposition parties on the back foot in Pun- jab as it has punctured the agenda on which the three principal op- position parties were about to enter the elec- tion fray. BJP had an- nounced that if its govt is formed, it will make a Dalit CM in state. Un- der Dalit politics, BJP had made former Union Minister Vijay Singh Sampla the chairman of the Scheduled Castes Commission and it was believed that he would be an undeclared face from BJP as a Dalit CM. Similarly, the Aam Aadmi Party had an- nounced that if its gov- ernment is formed, the CM will be a Jat Sikh but the Deputy CM will be a Dalit. The AAP has appointed Cheema as LoP in the Punjab As- sembly who hails from Dalit community . Akali Dal has tied up with BSP for the elections and it has also an- nounced that CM will be from Akali Dal and Deputy CM will be from Dalit Community . Meanwhile, Congress has put all the three parties on the back foot by making a Dalit CM. The question is, what will be the bet for other parties now? Will the stake of making Dalit CM or Dalit Deputy CM still work for these par- ties? Right now it seems that this agenda will not be of much use. So, the AAP, which appears to be far ahead in the pre-poll surveys, will have to focus on distrib- uting free services rath- er than its Jat, Sikh Dalit agenda. AAP has already announced that it will provide free elec- tricity water like Del- hi and perhaps, more services will be added. HAS RAHUL PRIYANKA’S TIME COME? By removing Captain from post of CM, Cong has marked beginning of new era Mahesh Sharma New Delhi: Now, after a waitspanningyears, the time has finally  come for Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in Congress politics. In Punjab, Captain Ama- rinder Singh’s depar- turefromthepostof CM is a sign that now the leadership of the party is completely in hands of Rahul and Priyanka and Sonia Gandhi will take the responsibility of only saying ‘I’m sor- ry’ to her old allies. This is the beginning of new era for the Con- gress party because by removing Captain from the post of Chief Minis- ter, Rahul Gandhi has done what he could not do even when he was the national president of the party . Earlier, Ra- hul and Priyanka used to push people of their choice. They were also made a minis- ter in the second govt of Manmohan Singh, whileseveralweremade statepresidentsinmany states and were kept in spite of all the failures. But this is the first time, when they have shown the door to such a big leader. Sonia her- self hasneverdonesuch politics as Rahul and Priyanka have done in the case of Captain. Keep in mind that Amarinder has known Sonia Gandhi for more than five decades. He was close to Rajiv and Sonia Gandhi from Lon- don and continued to be friends with the family even after returning to India. He was so close to Sonia that he never gave much importance to Rahul. Even when Rahul was the national president, Captain dis- cussed politics with So- nia instead of him. There were also reports that the captain bluntly told Rahul that he would talk to his mother, Sonia, about this. Sonia had also advised Rahul that while talking to the captain, he should keep in mind that he was talking to his father’s friend. The captain himself has said that he has not met Rahul for two years and Ra- hul and his close ones were deeply hurt by this. All those things have been accounted for by the captain. WHAT SONIA COULD NOT DO RAHUL, PRIYANKA DID IN ONE STROKE! In 23 years since Sonia took over the reins of the party, no such disrespect has happened to anyone. The one who was seated on the post remained seated. In fact, people remained CM for 10-15 years. Before Sonia Gan- dhi, in the tenure of Indira Rajiv Gandhi, there would rarely be a CM who would have completed term. On other hand, except in Maha under the command of So- nia, Rahul and Priyanka, where CMs have been changed several times, perhaps no CMs have been changed in any state of the country. In these 3 states, such satraps were allowed to come to power who later started show- ing eyes to party high command. However, what Sonia could not do was done by Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. Will Congress have to fight Punjab elections on Charanjit’s name! NOTHING FOR CAPTAIN AMARINDER SINGH IN BJP! Former CM Congress veteran Captain has all eyes on politics of future and has said that all avenues are open for him. This has raised the political tempera- ture of Punjab and it is being said that he can go to the BJP. It is also being said that Centre can amend or withdraw all 3 agricul- tural laws after which captain will go to BJP and the party will contest the next election by making him face. But all these seems far- fetched. So question is if BJP will change its rules for 80-year- old Amarinder Singh? Moreover, the BJP has announced to make a Dalit Chief Minister and so what will happen to that? On the other hand, Captain is also aware that BJP will go with Akali Dal sooner or later. What will happen to Captain family when this hap- pens? Therefore, it is more likely that Captain and his family should do politics by staying in Congress. New Delhi: Ahead of assembly elec- tions in five states, BJP is working hard to ensure that narra- tive of party being seen as anti-reserva- tion does not gain ground among SC voters. The SC Mor- cha has been tasked to ensure that the community it repre- sents does not feel neglected. In politi- cal resolution passed by Morcha’s national executive held in Varanasi on Sept 18 19, Morcha demanded system to ensure reservation in univer- sities. “We in BJP are committed to reser- vation as per consti- tutional arrange- ments believe it should stay. We have no policing authority over containers: Adani Group Vyapam Scam: 7-year-RI to 4 accused by CBI New Delhi: CBI Court on Wednesday sen- tenced four more ac- cused to seven years of imprisonment in the Vyapam scam related to the Police Constable Re- cruitment Test 2012 conducted by MP Pro- fessional Exam Board. “The Special Judge, CBI, cases, Bhopal has today convicted three candidates, namely Pushpendra Singh Ja- don, OK Yadav and Manoj Singh Kushwaha and the impersonator Shrinivas Singhal in a Vyapam related case, and sentenced them to undergo 7 years of rig- orous imprisonment,” read an official release. CBI had registered the case on August 5, 2015, in compliance with or- ders dated July 9, 2015. First India Bureau New Delhi: The Adani Group on Wednesday has issued a statement pertaining to the Mun- dra Port drug bust after it was subjected to a massive social media campaign. Issuing the state- ment, the Group said, on 16 September 2021, a joint operation by the DRI and Customs un- earthed a large cache of contraband heroin from two containers from Afghanistan that had arrived at the Mun- dra International Con- tainer Terminal (MICT), Mundra Port. We thank and congratu- late the DRI Customs teams for seizing the il- legal drugs and appre- hending the accused. The law empowers the Government of In- dia’s competent author- ities such as the Cus- toms and the DRI to open, examine and seize unlawful cargo. No port operator across the country can exam- ine a container. Their role is limited to run- ning a port. We sincerely hope that this statement will put to rest the motivat- ed, malicious and false propaganda being run on social media against the Adani Group. APSEZ is a port opera- tor providing services to shipping lines. We have no policing au- thority or the contain- ers or the millions of tonnes of cargo that pass through the ter- minals in Mundra or any of our ports,’ the statement from the Group read. Slamming social me- dia propaganda peddled against it, the Group has said that Adani Ports and Special Eco- nomic Zone (APSEZ) is just a port operator that provides services to shipping lines. Task of identifying booths of SCs to be completed by Nov 30. Captain Amarinder Singh Gautam Adani Priyanka Gandhi Rahul Gandhi Congress general secretary in-charge Harish Rawat is making a mistake by giving state- ments about contesting the next election under the leadership of Sidhu. Congress is not going to get any benefit from Sidhu’s name, but if this continues, then Congress will not get benefit it wants by making Channi, first Dalit CM of the state. If a message goes to the Dalits that after the elec- tion, Congress can make Sidhu or any other Jat Sikh CM, then their vote can be divided and Dalits will also look at those parties which have an- nounced to make a Dalit, CM or Deputy CM. That is why the Congress should not talk about the leader- ship of Sidhu or anyone else right now. Keep in mind that Jat Sikh population is only 16% of the population of Punjab and majority of that vote also goes to Akali Dal. Jat Sikh has been a voter of the Akali Dal and has also voted for the Aam Aadmi Party in the last elec- tions. The fundamentalist Sikhs in them like AAP that is when AAP has announced to make Jat Sikh CM. So there is no need for Cong to forward the name of Sidhu or any other Jat Sikh.

This may seem to suggest that PM Nar- endra Modi has come to grasp that his govern- ance signature must tilt in favour of subject spe- cialists if public and analysts have to see top- level appointments as targeted at establishing good administration, for which there is no substitute. Readers may recall that First India was the first to hint at the pos- sibility of a wholesale Secretarial appoint- ment to remove nag- ging and lingering doubts about govern- ment’s commitment to maximum governance through efficient ad- ministration. With those doubts re- moved, latest appoint- ments, excluding three, were done to move the 1989-batch officers to their aspirational and final posting as they were empanelled in February 2021 and were ratherturningdespond- ent with days passing by without bringing any good news for them. Excluding Pradip Ku- mar Tripathi (1987 batchIAS),RajivBansal (1988 batch IAS) and Anuradha Prasad (IDAS 1986), the entire list of 22 appointees has only 1989 batch IAS of- ficers. Of 22 posts, 13 are regular secretaries whereas 9 were elevated (in-situ) as Special Sec- retary to the rank and pay of Secretary to GoI. Unlike the past when secretaries were also laterally shifted in re- shuffles, this time only Steel Secretary PK Tri- pathi was conferred this favour to avail of his domain expertise in DoPT where he had worked earlier as Estab- lishment Officer (EO) and thus knew the nuts and bolts of this sensi- tive department. This also helped scotch the rumour that he had been side-lined. Like Tripathi, Rajiv Bansal too was subjected to wild rumours about his being side-lined. His ap- pointment as Civil Avi- ation Secretary must have sent rumour mon- gers to their nightmar- ish sleep. Bansal is to replace Pradeep Singh Kharola who is retiring at end-month. Sticking to the do- main specialisation principle, Sunil Barth- wal (1989 batch) was moved from position of Central Provident Fund Commissioner to the related Labour Em- ployment portfolio. For- mer PMO official Anu- rag Jain (1989 batch IAS) is put in charge of the Department for Pro- motion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). North-East cadre (Tripura) officer Lok Ranjan (1989 batch IAS) is assigned to Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DONER). Earlier, even senior bureaucrats raised questions over the rationale of giving the socio-economically and culturally complex domain of DONER to Naveen Verma (Bihar cadre IAS) and Inder Jit Singh (Kerala cadre IAS). So Lok Ranjan’s appointment is seen as plugging a critical gap. However, the appoint- ment of Govind Mohan in the Ministry of Cul- ture is seen as the only exception to the general rule of domain knowl- edge and expertise fol- lowed in the latest ap- pointments. There is a general impression among his colleagues that he was better qual- ified for portfolios like DEA, MoRTH or DPIIT. But considering the im- portance of Culture Ministry in the scheme of the ruling BJP and Sangh Pariwar, Mo- han’s appointment can be termed significant though for a while. Finally, reflecting the government’s commit- ment to affirmative gender equality, Ansuli Arya (1989) is made Sec- retary to Department of Official Language, Su- jata Chaturvedi (1989) as Secretary Sports, and Anuradha Prasad (IDAS, 1986) Secretary to, Inter-State Council Secretariat (MHA). Further, it is pointed out that since nine ad- ditional secretary rank IAS officers were em- panelled for holding Secretary-level posts and were in-situ pro- moted as Special Secre- tary in the rank and pay of Secretary to GoI, three of them could have been drafted for secretary-level posts in Steel, Drinking Water Sanitation and Border Management which have been left vacant for unknown reasons. Another significance of the latest appointments lies in fact that it has cleared the decks for of- ficers awaiting their turn for posting as sec- retary-equivalent, and Additional Secretary at Centre. A number of critical vacancies need to be filled urgently . They are Air India, IWAI, NHAI, Central PF Commissioner, Vice Chairman DDA, Estab- lishment Officer, Addi- tional Secretary in Home, DOPT, Econom- ic Affairs; Administra- tor, Universal Service Obligation Fund; ASFA Oil Ministry; Development Commis- sioner, MSME; CEO MD of National Indus- trial Corridor Develop- ment Corporation Lim- ited, etc. Hopefully, when the PM returns from his overseas missions, he may be able to find time to fix appointments to these equally critical organizations. ‘Won’tdefer1stNDAexamforwomen’ HD Kumaraswamy: Mamata bound to win with huge margin SC said, This won’t send right signal to women after having given them aspirations let’s begin from this year New Delhi: The Su- preme Court on Wednesday refused to accept the Centre’s re- quest to allow women candidates to appear for the entrance exam to the NDA from next year, saying it doesn’t want women to be de- nied their right. The party’s strategy is to capture most of the seats in the Purvanchal region of UP adjoining Bihar, apart from other areas of UP. Therefore, it will be a big challenge for Dharmendra Prad- han to win maximum number of seats in this region. The Central High Command has giv- en seven co-in-charges for the support of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, who has shown the effect of his organizational ability in the neighbouring state of Bihar, most of them be- ing youths, about whom the party has high hopes. It is note- worthy that Dharmen- dra Pradhan, who hails from Odisha, comes from the OBC commu- nity . His father Deven- dra Pradhan has also been a BJP MP . The entire team of Dharmendra Pradhan including Anurag Thakur, Saroj Pandey, Arjun Ram Meghwal, Shobha Karand- laje, Captain Ab- himanyu, Annapur- na Devi and Vivek Thakurwilldecidetheir election strategy . Many small parties in Purvanchal are prepar- ing to oppose the BJP. That is why BJP is fo- cusing on Purvanchal to take a front from these parties. There are some 156 seats in 26 districts. If we look at the last as- sembly elections, n, the BJP got 106 seats, achieving great success. On the other hand, SP won 18 seats, BSP 12, Apna Dal 8, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party 4, Congress 4 and Ni- shad Party 1 seat, while 3 independent candi- dates registered a win. But now the political scenario has completely changed. Last time BJP was in opposition, thistimeitis in power. It has account- ability in elections. As far as Lok Sabha is con- cerned, out of 29 seats in Purvanchal, BJP got 22 seats in the Lok Sabha elections while the SP and BSP alliance won 6 seats. Similarly , only one seat came in the account of Congress. BSP also has influ- ence in some seats here. Purvanchal is also the laboratory of small par- ties of UP and these in- clude Apna Dal(S), Ni- shad Party, Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party and Janawadi Party . At present, the Nishad Party and Apna Dal (S) are in alliance with the BJP while the Janwadi Party has an alliance with the SP. Together they are trying to defeat BJP. Union Minister for Information Broad- casting and Youth Af- fairs Sports Thakur, who is also the BJP’s election co-in charge in the state, expressed this optimism during his visit here. “This time the peo- ple of UP will shower more blessings, give more votes and seats (to the BJP),” he told re- porters here. BJP vice- president and UP in- charge Radha Mohan Singh and Union minis- ter Mahendra Nath Pandey were also pre- sent. Before the com- mencement of the meeting, Pradhan, CM Yogi Adityanath, both deputy CMsKeshav Prasad Maurya and Dinesh Sharma, UP BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh lighted the lamp, and also paid flo- ral tributes to the por- traits of Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Deen- dayal Upadhyay . First India Bureau Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the Yogi Adity- anath government of usurping the credit of his developmental work in Uttar Pradesh and failing to even read the BJP manifesto, forget about keeping its poll promises. In a statement, he also charged the saffron party government with weakening the democ- racy of the country by “sustained attack on various institutions”. “The BJP has no shame (laaz) that it did not read even a single page of its ‘sankalp patra’ of 2017 assembly elections and failed to implement any of the promises,” Yadav said, adding ahead of the as- sembly polls, they have now begun beating their own trumpet through advertise- ments. “This attitude of breaking promises (wadakhilaphi) is a form of corruption. Spending state resourc- es without doing any work of public interest is betrayal with the peo- ple,” he said. The SP president al- leged that the saffron party would try to “ma- nipulate” voting at the booth level during the elections early next year and asked party work- ers to be cautious of it. First India Bureau New Delhi: The Su- preme Court on Wednesday asked both the UP government and officials of Allahabad High Court to sit to- gether and jointly sub- mit the suggestions for regulating the matters of bail applications during the pendency of the appeals of the con- victed persons. The top court said if the suggestions are not given, then it may for- mulate some guidelines on its own. A bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and B R Gavai said that Allahabad High Court registry has 20-25 page suggestions which are like counter-sugges- tions to those already given by UP govern- ment. The SC was informed that High Court had filed the suggestions on Tuesday evening.“State government has said something and now you (Allahabad HC) have said something. They have given suggestions and now you have given counter-suggestions of 20-25 pages. How are we supposed to zero in on the most suitable ones? Attacking the BJP that has often accused the Congress of dynas- tic politics, Bora alleged the saffron party gives the impression that the family-based politics has no place in it while spreading “false propa- ganda” against its ri- vals.Around 45 MPs out of the total 388 BJP MPs of both Houses of Par- liament fall in the fami- ly-based category, he claimed in a statement. The Rajya Sabha MP alleged that the BJP has been spreading false propaganda that only members of the Gandhi family become prime ministers when the Congress is in power. Among the six Con- gress PMs, only three came from the Gandhi family , he said Bora also named 27 families whose two or more members are either now or in the past were holding different posts in the BJP or in the par- ty-led governments. Atrocity against women and rising crime graph are the hallmarks of the BJP rule in Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh said. Dressed in all black, his face in light and shadows amid the hanging lamps at the ‘kotha’, though the sexy puff is missing… Dev hits the mark! In Kala Pani, Dev gave one of his finest performances, in my opinion, he was restrained, nat- ural, the typical ‘happy-go- lucky’ mannerisms were there but just enough to mark his style with an intensity that the role demanded. The swagger surfaced now and then especial- ly in the ‘all famous’ duet with Madhubala, ‘Achcha ji main haari’. What a song! The natu- ral love and trust that they both display in the movie was beauti- fully reinforced in this iconic song! In Kala Pani, we have a Dev who does not sing much, does not whistle much either, his sig- nature style persona is missing in this movie but Dev Anand brings a depth to the role of an estranged son who goes in search of justice for his jailed father. He is determined and rugged, vulnerable and strong, a man who fights with his con- science as he ‘falsely’ woos Na- lini. My favourite song-dance sequence by Nalini is ‘Nazar laagi Raja tore bangla par’, she is gracefully execut- ing the kathak steps with aplomb. Both the lady stars had excel- lent roles, though Madhubala had a smaller one. She plays a working woman, a reporter and is strong, independent, confi- dent and open- a relevance in those times with no overt dra- matics or dialogues! That she is amazingly beautiful is not some- thing that can be overlooked, as Dev finds when he sees her for the first time! In fact, Nalini as the kothewali brings a muted grace to her scenes, she is digni- fied and restrained even when she realises that there is a ‘rea- son’ behind the ‘love’ of Dev Anand. Actually, the entire movie flows naturally, it is fast-paced and there is very little drama and histrionics, the song pic- turizations are beautiful and the songs actually further the plot. This week, watch Kala Pani ! ANITA HADA anita.hada@firstindianews.com As it is the week in which Dev Anand’s birth anniversary falls, City First takes you to Kala Pani this Throwback Thursday, one of the best of the dashing stylish hero ably supported by the gorgeous Madhubala and the understated, graceful Nalini Jaywant! You will have to be more focussed on the academic front. Past investments start giving good returns. Health-wise a good day is foreseen. ately, we have been explor- ing vegan reci- pes, super- foods, dietary supplements, and all the other related things quite a lot. (No, we are not yet ready to be- come Vegans our- selves, but we are kind of making conscious switches wherever we can.) Coming back to this week’s vegan exploration, we were kind of re- introduced with n u t r i t i o n a l yeast. So, most of us know this yeast type as an alternative to cheese in most ve- gan recipes. Fasci- nated by its creamy texture and cheesy flavour, we got into our ‘food geek’ selves to understand its for- mation, nutritional value, and everything in between. And, oh boy, were we aston- ished by our findings! Let’s begin with the basics. WHAT EXACTLY IS NUTRITIONAL YEAST AND HOW IS IT CULTIVATED? Nutritional yeast is nothing like regular yeast (or not). While your regular yeast is alive, ferments the dough and doesn’t have a distinguished taste, nutritional yeast is deactivated yeast, does not have lead to any fermenta- tion and is mostly used as a flavouring agent. It is regarded as a plant-based yeast because it is specially grown from molasses or wood pulp and the yeast cells are not alive during cooking. To elaborate for better understanding, the yeast is cultivated on sugary mediums like sugar cane, molasses, etc. After growing for several days, it is pas- teurized and deacti- vated, forming a paste which is then rolled out, dried completely and turned into flakes or powder before packaging. The real catch be- hind the B12-rich nu- tritional yeast. Well, in its original form, the nutritional yeast may have limited vitamins and minerals but most manufacturers fortify the yeast with nutri- ents, especially Vita- min B12M B6, folate and traces of oth- er B vitamins to sup- plement the yeast with the dietary require- ments of vegans. Apart from being packed with B vita- mins, there are so many other benefits of nutritional yeast. AN ENERGY BOOSTER Consuming the recom- mended dosage of B12- rich nutritional yeast can really work won- ders to boost me- tabolism and speed up r e d blood cell creation, improv- ing your energy levels significantly . HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS TOO Nutritional yeast con- tains antioxidants like glutathione and selenomethionine that can help prevent cell damage, enabling the body to effectively fight multiple diseas- es including heart ill- nesses, macular de- generation, etc. The yeast is also believed to reduce the risk of cancer due to the high level of vitamins, minerals, and antioxi- dants present in it. Nutritional yeast is indeed more than just an alternative to cheese for vegans and of course, healthier. Now, the real question is how to consume nu- tritional yeast in a way that you enjoy, whether you are a ve- gan or not! Yummy ways to use nutritional yeast in your everyday recipes. Nutritional yeast is re- ally versatile and there are such fun ways that you can incorporate it on your food. Did You Know? Nu- tritional yeast is also referred to as ‘Nooch.’ Funny name, right? ANYHOO, LET’S GET BACK TO THE RECIPES: 1 One cannot just forget the yeast twist to the clas- sic mac and cheese. Aahh, the beautiful cheese-like umami fla- vour that it gets makes it an absolute try once recipe. 2 Making tomato or pesto sauces for pastas? Re- place the parmesan with nutritional yeast and you can thank us later! 3 Mix it up in the dips, guacamole, or that vegan sal- sa with the snacks, sliders, chips, and more. 4 Not in a mood to cook but craving some nutritional yeast. Just sprinkle some on your popcorn (microwave it for a minute for that irre- sistible flavour), soups, and salads. It tastes heavenly! Whether you are a vegan or not, inculcat- ing nutritional yeast in your diet is highly recommended. How- ever, it is important to understand the power of moderation and please do not overdo it as an excess of this yeast intake may re- sult in a kind of facial flushing and indiges- tion. And, of course, if you are intolerant to yeast or have yeast allergies, it’s best to stay away and find other alternatives. Otherwise, go try the B12-fortified nutri- tional yeast and do share any unique reci- pes that you might be cooking using this yeast. Deal?
