Jaipur: A Nigerian
woman travelling on a
fake visa was detained
at the Jaipur Airport
late on Monday. She
came from Dubai and
when Immigration De-
partment officials in-
vestigated, the visa was
found to be fake. Also,
there was no record
available with the de-
partment about the visa
of the woman.
Probe revealed that
the woman, with a fake
student visa, was to
board a flight to Delhi.
The Immigration De-
partment is preparing
to deport her. Mean-
while, the Customs De-
partment also swung
into action. In the past,
three citizens of Afri-
can origin were arrest-
ed for smuggling drugs
and there is an alert at
airports across the
country
.
Considering this, the
woman’s connection
with a drug racket can-
not be ruled out.

FURTHER RISE
uel prices have been
jacked up after a hia-

and more such in-

The increase in retail price of
diesel should be seen together
with the price of bulk diesel
which was hiked by Rs 25 per

twin price rise of the commod-
ity will hurt the consumer hard.
Other than to grin and bear the
cost there’s little that a consum-

These are unusual times and
globally fuel prices are on fire.
First, OPEC is not increasing

US sanctions on Russia have

India’s independent stand, Rus-

it is only a small fraction of our

The change not only pro-

percent was unacceptable to
a large number of parents.
The UGC Chairman M.

sions. Kumar described as
“ridiculous” the 100 per cent

Back in Kolkata, slamming
the attack, vice-president,
Iskcon Kolkata, Radhara-
man Das, said: “Hindus have
to stop looking towards
namesake institutions like
the UN which is mute to the
cries of Hindus.”
Das tweeted… “It’s a very
unfortunate incident that
took place on the eve of Dol
Yatra Holi celebrations.
Just a few days ago, the Unit-
ed Nations had passed a reso-
lution declaring March 15 as
the International Day to

He went on to say
, “We are

Hindu minorities have lost
their lives, properties, have
been raped, but alas, all the
United Nations can do is to
ponder upon Islamophobia.”
“Unlike October-Novem-
ber, when the attack hap-
pened in Noakhali… where
one Iskcon priest was killed
and police did not come, a
massive deployment of Bang-
ladesh police was rushed to
the spot, who drove the mob
away,” Das informed.
Last year, at least three
people were killed after vio-
lence took place after news
spread on social media that
the Quran was allegedly des-
ecrated at a Durga Puja pan-
dal near Nanuar Dighi lake
in Comilla town.
Earlier, similar incidents
were also reported from Tipu
Sultan Road in Dhaka and
Kotwali in Chittagong.
RECEIVING THREATS
FOR YEARS?
A couple of days after a mob
reportedly led by Haji Shafi-
ullah vandalised an Iskcon
temple in Dhaka, a temple of-
ficial said they had been “re-
ceiving” threats for years to
leave the temple.
Shafiullah had also report-
edly offered them money to
leave the temple, Rasmani
Keshavdas, the medical of-
ficer of Iskcon temple, told
news agency ANI.
Keshavdas, a witness of the
attack, also said, Shafiullah
and Sufi, along with 500-600
people, vandalised the tem-
ple’s wall. “Two of our people
were hit when they tried to
stop the mob,” he said.
He further stated that the
unruly mob was not even re-
pentant even before the cops.
“Police supported them. They
didn’t want to listen to us.

the alleged incident of vandal-

and urged New Delhi to inter-
vene, saying the Sheikh Hasi-

On every festival, Hindus
are targeted in Bangladesh
under a “pre-planned con-
spiracy”, the Rashtriya
Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)
leader said, adding that the
community has faced 3,679
attacks, which include 1,678
cases of armed attacks and
vandalism at religious plac-
es, in the last nine years.
Citing a few incidents, he
said, “During Navaratri last
year, attacks were carried out
and around 200 houses of
Hindus were burnt, Durga
Puja pandals were vandal-
ised and the Iskcon temple in
Dhaka was also attacked.
“ThePrimeMinisterSheikh

pletely failed in providing pro-
tection to minority Hindus in

of the Indian government,

the population of Hindus
there has “come down to 9 per

Amaravati (ANI): The
suspense continues on
whether Jagan Mohan

will table a revised Bill
for three state Capitals
in the Assembly during
the ongoing Budget
session.
That the YSR Con-
gress Party (YSRCP)
government has not
given up its plans de-
spite the recent adverse
judgment by the High
Court was evidentwhen
Finance Minister Bug-
gana Rajendranath told
the Legislative Council
on Monday that the gov-
ernment desires to have
three capitals, one in
each region, to ensure
inclusive and balanced
growth. Replying to a
query by some mem-
bers, he told the house
that the state has adopt-
ed the policy of decen-
tralisation to take ad-
ministration close to
the citizens. This, he
said, will bring the com-
mon man into the main-
stream of development.
With only three days
left for the ongoing
Budget session to come
to an end, all eyes are on
the government to see
whether it tables the re-
vised Bill in place of the
two Bills repealed last
year or keep the matter
in abeyance for now to
avoid any confrontation
with the judiciary
.
Assembly Speaker
Tammineni Sitaram
has already agreed to
the demand of YSRCP
legislators for a discus-
sion on decentralisa-
tion of development.
This is likely to be tak-
en up in a day or two.
During the discus-
sion, the government
may reiterate its com-
mitment to three capi-
tals policy and reveal
how it plans to achieve
the same.

ED searches premises linked to Nawab Malik in Kurla
Mumbai (PTI): The
Enforcement Directo-
rate (ED) officials on
Tuesday carried out a
survey at the Goawala
Building compound at
Kurla, in order to col-
lect details of the ten-
ants at the premises, in
connection with its on-
going probe in which
the agency had last
month arrested NCP
leader and minister
Nawab Malik.
According to the
agency officials, the ED
is ascertaining how
many of those who are
currently occupying
premises in the build-
ing are genuine accord-
ing to the original land
owner’s record and how
many of them were lat-
er introduced by Malik.
The compound is in Ma-
lik’s control.
Malik was arrested
by the ED on February
23 for allegedly hatch-
ing a criminal conspir-
acy for usurping one
Munira Plumber’s an-
cestral property in Kur-
la having current mar-
ket value of around Rs
300 crore. ED had
launched a money laun-
dering probe linked to
the activities of fugitive
gangster Dawood Ibra-
him and his aides fol-
lowing a case registered
by Nation Investigation
Agency (NIA) against
Dawood and his aides.
The ED had alleged
that Plumber’s proper-
ty was usurped by Ma-
lik through Solidus In-
vestments Private Lim-
ited, a company owned
by the family members
of Nawab Malik and
controlled by Nawab
Malik, with active con-
nivance of the mem-
bers of Dawood Ibra-
him gang including
Dawood’s sister Hasee-
na Parkar. Plumber in
her statement to the ED
had stated that she was
not aware that her prop-
erty was sold to Parkar
and Malik and that she
had not received any
consideration for the
property from any per-
son. The ED in its re-
mand application filed
against Malik last
month had stated, “In-
vestigations have re-
vealed that Nawab Ma-
lik introduced fake ten-
ants in the said proper-
ty to lower the registry
value of this land and
currently this property
is under ownership of
Solidus Investments
Private Limited which
is controlled by Nawab
Malik. Inspite of lower-
ing of the registry rate,
market value as per the
sale deed is Rs 3.3 crore
whereas total payment
made was only Rs 15
lakh by Nawab Malik.”
Nawab Malik - The minister in the dock: ED is ascertaining
how many of those who are currently occupying premises.
New Delhi: Shiv
Sena MP Sanjay
Raut lashed out at
the BJP on Tuesday
for misusing Cen-
tral agencies such
as the ED to malign
the image of the Shiv
Sena-led MVA government. He also admitted
that the party had made a “mistake” by accepting
the resignation of former state home minis-
ter Anil Deshmukh, who was nabbed by the ED
last November in an alleged money-laundering
case. “We have seen the kind of evidence
available against Deshmukh. His resignation
was taken in haste (in April 2021), and it was a
mistake. He was targeted and the central probe
agencies like CBI and ED were let loose against
him,” Raut said.

BMC not to take any
action against Union

Rane until a deci-
sion is taken on his

alleged illegal al-
terations made in his

case of any adverse
order, no coercive
action against Rane’s
bungalow shall be

India’s air pollution
worsened in 2021, ac-
cording to the World
Air Quality Report re-
leased by IQAir, a Swiss
firm. This ends a three-
year trend of improv-
ing air quality. The av-
erage air pollution,
measured in the lethal
and microscopic PM2.5
pollutant, is 58.1 micro-
grams per cubic meter,
which is more than 10
times the World Health
Organisation’s (WHO)
air quality guidelines.
No city in India met the
WHO standard. North
India is worse. Delhi is
the world’s most pol-
luted capital for the
fourth consecutive year,
with pollution rising
almost 15 per cent over
the previous year. Air
pollution levels here
were almost 20 times
above the WHO’s safety
limits, with PM2.5
clocking in at 96.4 mi-
crograms per cubic me-
ter for the annual aver-
age. The safe limit is 5.
While Delhi’s air pol-
lution ranks at No. 4
globally, the world’s
most polluted place is
Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi,
followed by Uttar
Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on
Delhi’s eastern border.
Ten of the top 15 most
polluted cities are in In-
dia and mostly around
the national capital.
With 63, Indian cities
dominate the list of 100
most polluted places.
More than half are in
Haryana and Uttar

‘life index’ developed by
the University of Chi-
cago shows that resi-
dents in Delhi and Luc-

add about a decade to

The increase in retail price of diesel should be seen together with the price of bulk diesel which was hiked by Rs 25 per litre on Sunday. Together, the twin price rise of the commod- ity will hurt the consumer hard. Other than to grin and bear the cost there’s little that a consum- er can do. These are unusual times and globally fuel prices are on fire. First, OPEC is not increasing crude production and second, US sanctions on Russia have crippled oil supplies. This recent attack com- ing close on the heels of The Kashmir Files… is it a coinci- dence or anything more to it? It may be recalled that on last Tuesday, members of the General Assembly adopted a resolution proposed by Paki- stan to mark March 15, the anniversary of the 2019 at- tack on two mosques in New Zealand that left 51 Muslims dead, as International Day to Combat Islamophobia. At least three members of the templeat222,LalMohanSaha Street, in Wari, Dhaka were injuredintheattack.Themob was reportedly spearheaded by one Haji Shafiullah. Back in Kolkata, slamming the attack, vice-president, Iskcon Kolkata, Radhara- man Das, said: “Hindus have to stop looking towards namesake institutions like the UN which is mute to the cries of Hindus.” Das tweeted… “It’s a very unfortunate incident that took place on the eve of Dol Yatra Holi celebrations. Just a few days ago, the Unit- ed Nations had passed a reso- lution declaring March 15 as the International Day to Combat Islamophobia.” He went on to say , “We are surprisedthatthe(same)Unit- ed Nations is mute on the suf- fering of thousands of help- less Bangladeshi Pakistani minorities. So many of the Hindu minorities have lost their lives, properties, have been raped, but alas, all the United Nations can do is to ponder upon Islamophobia.” “Unlike October-Novem- ber, when the attack hap- pened in Noakhali… where one Iskcon priest was killed and police did not come, a massive deployment of Bang- ladesh police was rushed to the spot, who drove the mob away,” Das informed. Last year, at least three people were killed after vio- lence took place after news spread on social media that the Quran was allegedly des- ecrated at a Durga Puja pan- dal near Nanuar Dighi lake in Comilla town. Earlier, similar incidents were also reported from Tipu Sultan Road in Dhaka and Kotwali in Chittagong. RECEIVING THREATS FOR YEARS? A couple of days after a mob reportedly led by Haji Shafi- ullah vandalised an Iskcon temple in Dhaka, a temple of- ficial said they had been “re- ceiving” threats for years to leave the temple. Shafiullah had also report- edly offered them money to leave the temple, Rasmani Keshavdas, the medical of- ficer of Iskcon temple, told news agency ANI. Keshavdas, a witness of the attack, also said, Shafiullah and Sufi, along with 500-600 people, vandalised the tem- ple’s wall. “Two of our people were hit when they tried to stop the mob,” he said. He further stated that the unruly mob was not even re- pentant even before the cops. “Police supported them. They didn’t want to listen to us. Theyaskedustoleavethetem- ple but it’s ours. On every festival, Hindus are targeted in Bangladesh under a “pre-planned con- spiracy”, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader said, adding that the community has faced 3,679 attacks, which include 1,678 cases of armed attacks and vandalism at religious plac- es, in the last nine years. Citing a few incidents, he said, “During Navaratri last year, attacks were carried out and around 200 houses of Hindus were burnt, Durga Puja pandals were vandal- ised and the Iskcon temple in Dhaka was also attacked. “ThePrimeMinisterSheikh Hasina government has com- pletely failed in providing pro- tection to minority Hindus in Bangladesh. ED searches premises linked to Nawab Malik in Kurla Mumbai (PTI): The Enforcement Directo- rate (ED) officials on Tuesday carried out a survey at the Goawala Building compound at Kurla, in order to col- lect details of the ten- ants at the premises, in connection with its on- going probe in which the agency had last month arrested NCP leader and minister Nawab Malik. According to the agency officials, the ED is ascertaining how many of those who are currently occupying premises in the build- ing are genuine accord- ing to the original land owner’s record and how many of them were lat- er introduced by Malik. The compound is in Ma- lik’s control. Malik was arrested by the ED on February 23 for allegedly hatch- ing a criminal conspir- acy for usurping one Munira Plumber’s an- cestral property in Kur- la having current mar- ket value of around Rs 300 crore. ED had launched a money laun- dering probe linked to the activities of fugitive gangster Dawood Ibra- him and his aides fol- lowing a case registered by Nation Investigation Agency (NIA) against Dawood and his aides. The ED had alleged that Plumber’s proper- ty was usurped by Ma- lik through Solidus In- vestments Private Lim- ited, a company owned by the family members of Nawab Malik and controlled by Nawab Malik, with active con- nivance of the mem- bers of Dawood Ibra- him gang including Dawood’s sister Hasee- na Parkar. Plumber in her statement to the ED had stated that she was not aware that her prop- erty was sold to Parkar and Malik and that she had not received any consideration for the property from any per- son. The ED in its re- mand application filed against Malik last month had stated, “In- vestigations have re- vealed that Nawab Ma- lik introduced fake ten- ants in the said proper- ty to lower the registry value of this land and currently this property is under ownership of Solidus Investments Private Limited which is controlled by Nawab Malik. Inspite of lower- ing of the registry rate, market value as per the sale deed is Rs 3.3 crore whereas total payment made was only Rs 15 lakh by Nawab Malik.” Nawab Malik - The minister in the dock: ED is ascertaining how many of those who are currently occupying premises. His resignation was taken in haste (in April 2021), and it was a mistake. He was targeted and the central probe agencies like CBI and ED were let loose against him,” Raut said. This ends a three- year trend of improv- ing air quality. The av- erage air pollution, measured in the lethal and microscopic PM2.5 pollutant, is 58.1 micro- grams per cubic meter, which is more than 10 times the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) air quality guidelines. No city in India met the WHO standard. North India is worse. Delhi is the world’s most pol- luted capital for the fourth consecutive year, with pollution rising almost 15 per cent over the previous year. Air pollution levels here were almost 20 times above the WHO’s safety limits, with PM2.5 clocking in at 96.4 mi- crograms per cubic me- ter for the annual aver- age. The safe limit is 5. While Delhi’s air pol- lution ranks at No. 4 globally, the world’s most polluted place is Rajasthan’s Bhiwadi, followed by Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad on Delhi’s eastern border.
