“The way they have

Wonder, what is hap-

Now the BBC has been

Gehlot said that the
countrymen should be
told the reason why the

About ERCP, he said
that the states of Mad-

this, MLA Ramlal Sharma quipped,
“Your dinner is expensive, lunch is
fine.” In response to this Singh said,
“You come once, will serve you din-
ner like Rajendra Rathore.” Hearing
this, Rathore smiled and Vasund-

Satish Pooni returned

Rajendra Rathore again sat

curiosity among the BJP
MLAs about what seri-

between the four leaders.
Jaipur: Satish Poonia

the fire incidents in the
state from January 2021 to
December 2022. He asked
will the government con-

incidents and
present the

Jaipur: Independent MLA from Marwar Junction (Pali)
Khushveer Singh Jojawar has written a book on the politi-
cal crisis in Rajasthan. Several shocking claims have been
made in the book. He waved the book during the debate
on budget in the assembly on Tuesday. “I am the witness
in this, I am the culprit. Whatever I have written in this
book, I have written the truth,” he said. “I have brought
this book. I have not decided yet who will release it. I will
get it kept in the district level treasury. When the right time
comes, I will get it released by the right person,” he said.
Jaipur: The issue of drains, sewerage and waterlog-
ging of Sanganer Assembly echoed in the House. MLA
Ashok Lahoty said that give some budget
to Sanganer too and don’t take the entire
budget to Jodhpur and Kota. “There is
neither drain nor sewerage in hundreds of
colonies of Sanganer Assembly,” Lahoty
said in the House through an adjournment
motion in Zero Hour. Lahoty also named
the affected areas of Sanganer Assembly.
Jaipur: Congress MLA Girraj Singh Malinga used objectionable
words for Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. “There was a ‘Paune Do
Aankh Wala Baba’, who used to claim to sell petrol and diesel
for Rs 30. Now there is no trace of that Baba, where has he
gone? His own eye was not treated and he is fooling the whole
public that you should do yoga like this, inflate your stomach
like this, do this,” said Malinga while targeting the BJP during
the budget debate in the Assembly on Tuesday. They are doing
such work. These BJP people have spread a whole net of such
people. “Someday they bring Baba to create some drama,
other day they bring cow or God into politics,” he said.
Jaipur: Parliamentary Affairs Minister Shanti Dhariwal de-
manded apology from Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajendra
Rathore for defying the chair. He said whatever happened
was not right. “It has happened once before. When Niranjan
Nath Acharya was on the chair, then Bhairon Singh Shekha-
wat defied the chair. At that time Mohan Lal Sukhadia had
brought special notice and Bhairon Singh had apologise.”
Dhariwal said that today Deputy Leader of Opposition Rajen-
dra Rathore also defied the chair and he should apologise.
Rathore said to the presiding officer, “I have no intention to
disobey the chair. I just want to say, you keep smiling.
Ajmer: Chairman of Rajasthan Tourism Development
Corporation (RTDC) Dharmendra Rathore on Tuesday
recounted the achievements of RTDC last year as he
completed a year as RTDC Chairman. Rathore, who
was in Ajmer to flag off a special train of pilgrims under
the Senior Citizen Pilgrimage Scheme – 2022, said
that he took up challenges and improved the condition
of the corporation. He also addressed a press confer-
ence at RTDC Hotel in Ajmer. “There was a time when
RTDC was in a better condition, but under the BJP rule,
the corporation was on the verge of shutting down.
However, the Ashok Gehlot government took several
decisions to promote tourism and brought it back on
track. Now, the future of RTDC is bright and special
efforts are being done to strengthen it financially,” said

emotional on this. “If I have done any mistake,
forget it today,” he said. Although the MLAs while
congratulating him said that they have always got to
learn from him, he will always be missed. The BJP
Legislature Party meets every Tuesday during the
Assembly session. But the meeting on Tuesday was
special as Kataria was felicitated. All the MLAs took a
group photo with Kataria and many MLAs also took a
single photo with Kataria for memory. Everyone in the
meeting shared their experience with Kataria. During
this BJP State President Satish Poonia, former Chief
Minister Vasundhara Raje, Deputy Leader of Opposi-
tion Rajendra Rathore, Whip Jogeshwar Garg and all
the MLAs were present.

hile Nagaland and Megha-
laya will go to polls on Febru-
ary 27, all eyes are on Tripura
which goes to polls on Febru-
ary 16. However, on March 2,
the outcome will be known.
In all three states, the saf-
fron party is in power. BJP is
the ruling party in Tripura
and it is also part of the rul-
ing coalition in Nagaland
and Meghalaya.
WHAT DOES
BJP FEEL
The Union Home Minister,
Amit Shah, said the BJP-led
alliance in Tripura will in-
crease its seats and also vote
share in the upcoming As-
sembly elections in the state.
He said adding that the saf-
fron party would have at-
tained a majority in polls
before noon on the counting
day to form the government
in the state.
In an interview given to
ANI, Shah took a dig at the
Opposition in Tripura and
said the Congress and Left
parties have formed an alli-
ance in the state as they have
accepted that they can’t de-
feat BJP alone.
“We will increase our seats
and also our vote share in
Tripura. Congress and the
Communist party have come
together as they have accept-
ed that they can’t defeat BJP
alone. We will form a govern-
ment with full majority in
the state,” Shah.
Expressing confidence,
Shah said the BJP is seeking
a mandate to make the state
prosperous in the next five
years, building on the devel-
opment initiatives of the
party-led government.
“We eliminated violence in
Tripuraandalsotookstrictac-
tion against drug business
from across the border in the
state,” he said.
WILL CROSS MAJORITY
MARK BY NOON?
Asked about the possibility
of a hung Assembly in Tripu-
ra, Shah said the constituen-
cies in Tripura are small and
“you will see that before 12
pm on counting day, the BJP
would have crossed the ma-
jority mark.”
CHALO PALTAI
SLOGAN…
“‘Chalo Paltai’ slogan was
given to change the situation
in Tripura, and today we’ve
done that. Earlier when the
Left was in power in the state,
government employees were
paid under the 5th Pay Com-
mission, but we implemented
the 7th Pay commission with-
out increasing fiscal deficit,”
he added.
The BJP created a record in
2018 by ousting the Left Front
government which ruled
Tripura for 35 years from way
back in 1978. The state will go
to the polls on February 16 for
its 60-member Assembly
.
The BJP is contesting in 55
seats while its ally Indige-
nous Peoples Front of Tripu-
ra (IPFT) is contesting in the
remaining five seats.
WHAT ANALYSTS FEEL?
Analysts, however, believe
thatitwillbeathree-cornered
election, with the Left-Con-
gress alliance re-emerging in
the state and newcomer Tipra
Motha gaining widespread
support in tribal areas.
HRANGKHAWL SPEAK
In case of a deadlock with no
alliance or party able to gain
majority in the ensuing three-
cornered elections to the
Tripura assembly
, the Tipra
Motha may stake claim to
form government, its presi-
dent Bijoy Kumar Hrang-
khawl said.
The regional party, which
has been attracting large
numbers of adherents in the
state’s tribal areas, is also
willing to give outside sup-
port to any party or alliance
(either the BJP or the Con-
gress-Left combine) that man-
ages to form government,
provided it agrees “on paper
and on the floor of the House”
that it will concede to Tipra
Motha’s demand for creation
of a separate tribal state.
“It may so happen that we
may be the single-largest
party in the state… in a post-
poll scenario, we are willing
to support from outside (any
party which is able to form
government), but you have to
agree on paper and on the
floor of the House that a new
state will be created,” said
Hrangkhawl in an exclusive
interview to PTI. “If they
(other parties) do not agree,
we will not proceed,” he said.

mained unrepresented in the
Union council of ministers
until her induction. Sources

BID TO APPEASE
BIPLAB CAMP?
Pratima has risen from the
ranks in the party and is very
popular. She was considered
close to former chief minis-
ter Biplab Deb. Her candida-
ture is also an attempt by the
central leadership to woo and
keep the Biplab camp in good
humour which has not taken
his removal in good spirit.
WHAT ABOUT
MANIK SAHA?
There is no denying the fact
that the current Chief Minis-
ter, Manik Saha, enjoys popu-
larity but the matter of fact
is the Biplab-Pratima combi-
nation that continues to be
the dominant force in the
state BJP. The party leader-
ship has “played” its trump
card deftly by fielding Prati-
ma as this will perhaps give
the Biplab faction a certain
amount of good stature.
Meanwhile, even as the
BJP is locked in a tough
three-cornered fight in the
state and if it manages to pull
through, will Tripura see the
first woman Chief Minister?
Stay tuned till March 2.

New Delhi: President
Draupadi Murmu has
appointed new gover-
nors in 13 states. Some
new governors have
been appointed and
some governors have
been transferred. Now
except for a few Union
Territories, governors
havebeenappointedeve-
rywhere. So, as per new
list now, eastern Uttar
Pradesh has dominance
among the governors.
A total of five gover-
nors or deputy gover-
nors have been appoint-
ed from the eastern part
of Uttar Pradesh. This
is a sign of a greater im-
balance. There is no
governor from many
states, while there are
one or two governors
from many big states.
But five governors from
one part of Uttar
Pradesh are in different
states or union territo-
ries of the country.
Among the new gover-
nors, two names are
from Uttar Pradesh and
both are from Eastern
Uttar Pradesh. Veteran
BJP leader and former
Union Minister of State
for Finance Shiv Pratap
Shukla, who hails from
Gorakhpur, has been
made the Governor of
Himachal Pradesh.
Apart from him, Lax-
man Prasad Acharya of
Varanasi, the constitu-
ency of Prime Minister
Narendra Modi, has
been made the governor
of Sikkim. Prior to this,
three people from East-
ern Uttar Pradesh are
already Governor or
Deputy Governor.
Manoj Sinha is the Dep-
uty Governor of the Un-
ion Territory of Jammu
and Kashmir. Kalraj
Mishra, a veteran BJP
leader, is the Governor
of Rajasthan. Both
Manoj Sinha and Kalraj
Mishra are residents of
Ghazipur. Fagu Chau-
han, a resident of Azam-
garh, who was the Gov-
ernor of Bihar, has been
removed from there and
made the Governor of
Meghalaya.

Rajnath Singh said. In
an address to his coun-

Bengaluru: India does not believe in giving “sermons or cut-
and-dried” solutions to countries in need of assistance and
holds that nations with superior military powers do not have
the right to dictate solutions to others, Rajnath Singh said in
an apparent reference to China’s assertive behaviour. In an
address to his counterparts and deputy defence ministers
from around 30 countries at Aero India, Singh said India has
always stood for a rules-based global order in which the pri-
mordial instinct of “might being right” is replaced by fairness,
respect and equality amongst all sovereign nations.

New Delhi (ANI): Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, on the
fourth anniversary of Pulwama terror attack, on Tuesday paid
tribute to the soldiers who laid down their lives in the deadly
terror attack on their convoy in Jammu and Kashmir. “A
heartfelt tribute to the brave martyrs of the Pulwama terror
attack. India will always remember his supreme sacrifice,”
Rahul Gandhi wrote on Twitter.

tributes to the fallen CRPF
men in the dastardly attack,
ADGP Kumar, said the secu-

Muhammad and almost all
their top commanders have
been neutralised. “At present,
the JeM only has 7-8 locals
and 5-6 active Pakistanis, including Mossa Solaimani (wanted
terrorist),” he said, adding that police are after them and they
will be neutralised soon. He said the police are not only busting
terror modules but are also cracking down on narco-terrorism
and terror funding. “We have been able to recover Rs 41 lakh
and recently in Baramulla, Rs 26 lakh was recovered,” he said.

New Delhi (ANI): The All India Bar Association (AIBA)
on Tuesday congratulated the Income Tax Department
for conducting surveys of BBC’s documents to check
irregularities relating to international taxation and Tax
Deducted at Source (TDS) transactions. Senior Advo-
cate and Chairman of AIBA, Dr Adish C Aggarwala, in a
statement, has welcomed the action of the Income Tax
Department as earlier the AIBA has requested Union
Home Minister Amit Shah to order a 360-degree probe
into the “international conspiracy” angle in BBC’s
documentary on PM Narendra Modi. On January 22,
amidst the row over British national broadcaster, BBC’s
documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the
AIBA demanded Home Ministry initiate a special inves-
tigation into the “international conspiracy” angle.
New Delhi (PTI): The
BJP on Tuesday accused
the British Broadcast-
ing Corporation (BBC) of
unleashing “venomous”
reporting against India and
alleged that its propaganda
and the Congress’ agenda
go together. Hitting out at
the London-headquartered
public broadcaster, he
said the BBC is the “most
corrupt” organisation in
the world and the Congress
should remember that for-
mer prime minister Indira
Gandhi had also banned
the broadcaster. The BJP
leader further claimed that
the BBC has a “tainted and
black history of working
with malice against India”.
“BBC propaganda and Con-
gress agenda go together.
Congress should remember
that its own leader and for-
mer prime minister Indira
Gandhi had imposed a ban
on the BBC,” he said.
Karnal (Haryana): Union
Home Minister Amit Shah
presented the President’s
Colour award to Haryana
police in Karnal on Tuesday.
While addressing the event,
Amit Shah remembered the
soldiers killed in the 2019
terror attack in Jammu and
Kashmir’s Pulwama. Shah
said, “In 2019, in a cowardly
attack on CRPF jawans in
Pulwama, 40 jawans were
killed in the line of action.”
“The names of those 40
soldiers will always remain
etched with golden letters in
India’s history of bravery and
sacrifice. Their sacrifice has
a huge contribution to the
country’s progress,” he said.
Srinagar: A wreath-laying
ceremony by CRPF was
organised at the Martyrs
Memorial in Lethpora in
South Kashmir’s Pulwama
district on Tuesday in
honour of the bravehearts
who laid down their lives
on February 14, 2019.
Tributes were paid to the
40 CRPF jawans who died
in that terror attack. The
CRPF jawans, who were
also on duty in Pulwama
on February 14, 2019,
said they miss their col-
leagues but their morale
is high to take on the
militants and end terror-
ism in Kashmir.
New Delhi (Agencies): Opposition parties on Tuesday said
that India was in a state of “undeclared emergency” after
Income Tax Department officials conducted a “survey opera-
tion” at the Mumbai and Delhi offices of British broadcaster
BBC. Tax officials told PTI that the operation was being car-
ried out as part of a tax evasion investigation. In a survey, the
Income Tax Department only searches the business premises
of a company and not the homes and other locations of its
promoters or directors. The government has used emergency
powers available under the Information Technology Rules,
2021to issue directions to YouTube and Twitter to block
clips of the documentary from being shared. The foreign
ministry has described the documentary as “a propaganda
piece designed to push a particular discredited narrative”.
On Tuesday, the Congress said on its Twitter handle that
an “undeclared emergency” prevailed in the country as the
documentary has been banned in India, and now the Income
Tax Department has taken action against the BBC.
New Delhi (PTI): CPI(M)

slammed the government
for not accepting the op-
position demand for a Joint

POSTAL REG NO. JPC/004/2022-24
First India Bureau
Jaipur: A young IAS of-
ficer of 2004 batch,
Samit Sharma, Secre-
tary Social Justice De-
partment, is once again
in the ‘limelight’ as the
DoP has taken back the
reins of the Women and
Child Development De-
partment (WCD) from
him within a month.
The additional charge
of the department was
handed to Samit on the
retirement of Dinesh
Yadav, the department’s
former secretary and
now this responsibility
has been given to Prin-
cipal Secretary, Coop-
eratives, Sreya Guha.
On the surface, this
move is believed to be
DoP’s routine adminis-
trative action, however,
there is more to this
than meets the eye.
Firstly, it is a rare and
bizarre development
that some Secretary is
given an additional
chargeinhasteand then
it is rolled back and
handed over to another
Secretary
.Thestubborn-
ness to better the exist-
ing system and the cor-
responding ‘tussle’ with
the minister proved to
be costly to Sharma.
The WCD provides
free nutritious food
across the State to about
28 lakh children to im-
prove their immunity
.
For this, a budget of Rs
1,000 crore has been set
aside, which has some
part paid by the Govern-
ment of India as well.
This herculean task of
feeding the children is
done through 62,000 cen-
tres spread across the
Stateandmorethan3000
female supervisors and
project officers have
been appointed for it.
Last month, Dholpur
Collector Anil Agrawal
brought to Samit Shar-
ma’s notice, a corrup-
tion issue in WCD. It
was told, with evidence,
that out of the approved
quantity, only 25-30 per-
cent goods have reached
the centres, while the
receipts show the com-
plete quantity
. The Col-
lector, after conducting
an investigation at his
level and being satisfied
with the findings, wrote
about the corruption
and the State employees
involved in it with a rec-
ommendation to take
action against them.
Samit Sharma sent
the file to Minister
Mamta Bhupesh with
the recommendation to
suspend the concerned
female supervisor and
the Minister returned
the file with the remark
that the investigation
should be conducted
again. But Samit Shar-
ma again wrote that the
Collector has already
conducted an investiga-
tion and there is no need
or logic in re-investigat-
ing the matter.
However, the second
time, the file did not
even return from the
Minister, rather the ad-
ditional charge was tak-
en from Samit Sharma.
Word in the bureau-
cracy is that even before
this,therehasbeenatus-
sle between Minister
Mamta Bhupesh and
Samit Sharma on trans-
parency in the procure-
ment of goods and about
streamliningthesystem.
The Secretary wanted
that the purchase and
distribution of goods
from NAFED should be
doneonline.Sharmahad
received corruption-re-
lated complaints from
half adozendistrictsand
hence, Sharma wanted
to add new conditions in
new supply orders.
However, now that
Samit Sharma is no
more at the helm, all re-
sponsibility falls on
Sreya Guha who in the
past, from April 2021 to
2022 has handled the
reins of WCD.
Why Samit couldn’t ‘sum-it’ in WCD Department?
THE INSIDE STORY
STORY SO FAR...
Samit Sharma sent the file to Minister Mamta
Bhupesh with the recommendation to sus-
pend the concerned female supervisor and the
Minister returned the file with the remark that
the investigation should be conducted again. But
Samit Sharma again wrote that the Collector has
already conducted an investigation and there is
no need or logic in re-investigating the matter.

well. Along with the pictures, the couple wrote, “Pyaar ka rang
chada hai” followed by a red heart emoji.
SRK GAURI
Shah Rukh Khan took to Twitter to announce that he will
answer a few fan queries. Where one fan asked “What was
your first Valentine’s Day present to Gauri Mam? #AskSRK
@iamsrk.” To which SRK replied, “If I recall properly, it’s
been about 34 years now....a pair of pink plastic earrings, I
believe”.

  • 4. hile Nagaland and Megha- laya will go to polls on Febru- ary 27, all eyes are on Tripura which goes to polls on Febru- ary 16. However, on March 2, the outcome will be known. In all three states, the saf- fron party is in power. BJP is the ruling party in Tripura and it is also part of the rul- ing coalition in Nagaland and Meghalaya. WHAT DOES BJP FEEL The Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, said the BJP-led alliance in Tripura will in- crease its seats and also vote share in the upcoming As- sembly elections in the state. He said adding that the saf- fron party would have at- tained a majority in polls before noon on the counting day to form the government in the state. In an interview given to ANI, Shah took a dig at the Opposition in Tripura and said the Congress and Left parties have formed an alli- ance in the state as they have accepted that they can’t de- feat BJP alone. “We will increase our seats and also our vote share in Tripura. Congress and the Communist party have come together as they have accept- ed that they can’t defeat BJP alone. We will form a govern- ment with full majority in the state,” Shah. Expressing confidence, Shah said the BJP is seeking a mandate to make the state prosperous in the next five years, building on the devel- opment initiatives of the party-led government. “We eliminated violence in Tripuraandalsotookstrictac- tion against drug business from across the border in the state,” he said. WILL CROSS MAJORITY MARK BY NOON? Asked about the possibility of a hung Assembly in Tripu- ra, Shah said the constituen- cies in Tripura are small and “you will see that before 12 pm on counting day, the BJP would have crossed the ma- jority mark.” CHALO PALTAI SLOGAN… “‘Chalo Paltai’ slogan was given to change the situation in Tripura, and today we’ve done that. Earlier when the Left was in power in the state, government employees were paid under the 5th Pay Com- mission, but we implemented the 7th Pay commission with- out increasing fiscal deficit,” he added. The BJP created a record in 2018 by ousting the Left Front government which ruled Tripura for 35 years from way back in 1978. The state will go to the polls on February 16 for its 60-member Assembly . The BJP is contesting in 55 seats while its ally Indige- nous Peoples Front of Tripu- ra (IPFT) is contesting in the remaining five seats. WHAT ANALYSTS FEEL? Analysts, however, believe thatitwillbeathree-cornered election, with the Left-Con- gress alliance re-emerging in the state and newcomer Tipra Motha gaining widespread support in tribal areas. HRANGKHAWL SPEAK In case of a deadlock with no alliance or party able to gain majority in the ensuing three- cornered elections to the Tripura assembly , the Tipra Motha may stake claim to form government, its presi- dent Bijoy Kumar Hrang- khawl said. The regional party, which has been attracting large numbers of adherents in the state’s tribal areas, is also willing to give outside sup- port to any party or alliance (either the BJP or the Con- gress-Left combine) that man- ages to form government, provided it agrees “on paper and on the floor of the House” that it will concede to Tipra Motha’s demand for creation of a separate tribal state. “It may so happen that we may be the single-largest party in the state… in a post- poll scenario, we are willing to support from outside (any party which is able to form government), but you have to agree on paper and on the floor of the House that a new state will be created,” said Hrangkhawl in an exclusive interview to PTI. “If they (other parties) do not agree, we will not proceed,” he said. WHO IS PRATIMA BHOUMIK ThefocusisonPratimaBhou- mik,53,theUnionministerof state for social justice and em- powerment, who has been fielded in the Tripura Assem- bly elections by BJP . Pratima, a sitting member of the Lok Sabha,becamethefirstminis- ter from Tripura in the Union ministry . The state had re- mained unrepresented in the Union council of ministers until her induction. Sources said she has been fielded to giveamessagetothepeopleof the state that she could be a candidateforthepostof chief ministership. BID TO APPEASE BIPLAB CAMP? Pratima has risen from the ranks in the party and is very popular. She was considered close to former chief minis- ter Biplab Deb. Her candida- ture is also an attempt by the central leadership to woo and keep the Biplab camp in good humour which has not taken his removal in good spirit. WHAT ABOUT MANIK SAHA? There is no denying the fact that the current Chief Minis- ter, Manik Saha, enjoys popu- larity but the matter of fact is the Biplab-Pratima combi- nation that continues to be the dominant force in the state BJP. The party leader- ship has “played” its trump card deftly by fielding Prati- ma as this will perhaps give the Biplab faction a certain amount of good stature. Meanwhile, even as the BJP is locked in a tough three-cornered fight in the state and if it manages to pull through, will Tripura see the first woman Chief Minister? Stay tuned till March 2. Senior Advo- cate and Chairman of AIBA, Dr Adish C Aggarwala, in a statement, has welcomed the action of the Income Tax Department as earlier the AIBA has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a 360-degree probe into the “international conspiracy” angle in BBC’s documentary on PM Narendra Modi. On January 22, amidst the row over British national broadcaster, BBC’s documentary on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the AIBA demanded Home Ministry initiate a special inves- tigation into the “international conspiracy” angle. The foreign ministry has described the documentary as “a propaganda piece designed to push a particular discredited narrative”. On Tuesday, the Congress said on its Twitter handle that an “undeclared emergency” prevailed in the country as the documentary has been banned in India, and now the Income Tax Department has taken action against the BBC. JPC/004/2022-24 First India Bureau Jaipur: A young IAS of- ficer of 2004 batch, Samit Sharma, Secre- tary Social Justice De- partment, is once again in the ‘limelight’ as the DoP has taken back the reins of the Women and Child Development De- partment (WCD) from him within a month. The additional charge of the department was handed to Samit on the retirement of Dinesh Yadav, the department’s former secretary and now this responsibility has been given to Prin- cipal Secretary, Coop- eratives, Sreya Guha. On the surface, this move is believed to be DoP’s routine adminis- trative action, however, there is more to this than meets the eye. Firstly, it is a rare and bizarre development that some Secretary is given an additional chargeinhasteand then it is rolled back and handed over to another Secretary .Thestubborn- ness to better the exist- ing system and the cor- responding ‘tussle’ with the minister proved to be costly to Sharma. The WCD provides free nutritious food across the State to about 28 lakh children to im- prove their immunity . For this, a budget of Rs 1,000 crore has been set aside, which has some part paid by the Govern- ment of India as well. This herculean task of feeding the children is done through 62,000 cen- tres spread across the Stateandmorethan3000 female supervisors and project officers have been appointed for it. Last month, Dholpur Collector Anil Agrawal brought to Samit Shar- ma’s notice, a corrup- tion issue in WCD. It was told, with evidence, that out of the approved quantity, only 25-30 per- cent goods have reached the centres, while the receipts show the com- plete quantity . The Col- lector, after conducting an investigation at his level and being satisfied with the findings, wrote about the corruption and the State employees involved in it with a rec- ommendation to take action against them. Samit Sharma sent the file to Minister Mamta Bhupesh with the recommendation to suspend the concerned female supervisor and the Minister returned the file with the remark that the investigation should be conducted again. But Samit Shar- ma again wrote that the Collector has already conducted an investiga- tion and there is no need or logic in re-investigat- ing the matter. However, the second time, the file did not even return from the Minister, rather the ad- ditional charge was tak- en from Samit Sharma. Word in the bureau- cracy is that even before this,therehasbeenatus- sle between Minister Mamta Bhupesh and Samit Sharma on trans- parency in the procure- ment of goods and about streamliningthesystem. The Secretary wanted that the purchase and distribution of goods from NAFED should be doneonline.Sharmahad received corruption-re- lated complaints from half adozendistrictsand hence, Sharma wanted to add new conditions in new supply orders. However, now that Samit Sharma is no more at the helm, all re- sponsibility falls on Sreya Guha who in the past, from April 2021 to 2022 has handled the reins of WCD. Why Samit couldn’t ‘sum-it’ in WCD Department? THE INSIDE STORY STORY SO FAR... Samit Sharma sent the file to Minister Mamta Bhupesh with the recommendation to sus- pend the concerned female supervisor and the Minister returned the file with the remark that the investigation should be conducted again. But Samit Sharma again wrote that the Collector has already conducted an investigation and there is no need or logic in re-investigating the matter.
