WHAT I CAN DO
1. Is a strategic, selective reading method in which you focus on the main ideas of a text.
2. A text is a reading technique where the reader looks for specific information rather than
trying to absorb all the information. If you're reading a timetable, say, you want specific
information usually and so look for something that is convenient for your journey plans,
when you do this, you are scanning.
3. Is reading widely but not necessarily focusing on one textbook or one source of
information.

ADDITIONAL ACTIVITIES
REAL DEFINITION YOUR DEFINITION
Reading Approach Reading approach is one of
methods that can be used by
teacher. In reading approach,
students will improve their
knowledge and get
something new because they
are demanded to read more.
Reading becomes important
because it is an active skill
which involves inferencing,
guessing, predicting etc.
Reading is making meaning
from print. It requires that we:
Identify the words in print – a
process called word
recognition. Construct an
understanding from them – a
process called
comprehension. Coordinate
identifying words and making
meaning so that reading is
automatic and accurate – an
achievement called fluency.
Skimming Is reading a text quickly to
get a general idea
of meaning. It can be
Skimming are reading
techniques that use rapid eye
movement and keywords to

which is reading in order to
find specific information.
move quickly through text for
slightly different purposes.
Scanning Is reading a text quickly in
order to find specific
information, figures or
names.
It can be contrasted with
skimming, which is reading
quickly to get a general idea
of meaning.
Extensive Reading Read long or short texts but
carefully and deeply to have a
full understanding of the
topic.
Involves learners reading
texts for enjoyment and to
develop general reading
skills. It can be compared
with intensive reading, which
means reading in detail with
specific learning aims and
tasks. Extensive reading is
often overlooked, especially
as a classroom activity.
