2. Aquaculture growth in Bangladesh
• Since independence of
Bangladesh in 1971, aquaculture
production has been increased
by 35 times from 68, 080 MT in
1971 to 24,05,415 MT in 2018
• Aquaculture has got the
steadiest growth over the last 10
years, and total aquaculture
production became double from
1.06 million MT in 2008-2009 to
2.41 million MT in 2017-2018

treat disease in shrimp (Penaeus
monodon) farms in Bangladesh.
• From 130 in 2008 to 261 products in
2016

6. What should we do for safe aquacultured fish production
§ One health aquaculture strategy needs a broader
coordinated umbrella
§ Because this issues is complex stakeholders driven
network
§ Needs – consideration of physical, biological,
industrial, institutional (academic, research,
development), social and political issues
§ Interdisciplinary research & development for

7. Our on-going activities in relation to one health approach
§ Prudent pharmaceuticals use in aquaculture –UoE
§ Antimicrobial uses at the farmers and its relationship with farmers
perceptions and their social-economic characteristics – UoE
§ Spatial modelling of aquaculture growth (fish, feed, hatchery,
pharmaceuticals value-chains), climate variabilities – CEFAS
§ Characterizing emerging shrimp diseases in Bangladesh -
CEFAS
