This document discusses mental illness among teenagers and outlines plans to address the issue. 2. Our Goal:
Our goal is to make sure that people know that
they are not alone and that whatever they are
going through, someone has gone through
before.

3. Why is it a problem in our generation?
Depression is a problem in our generation because, some teenagers
don’t have good resources to go to about their issues. Most people
also joke about suicide and mental illnesses thinking that it’s okay
to say certain things that someone may be going through. Kids who
have a mental illness may not think that their parents understand
what exactly they go through so they don’t believe to go to them.

4. Why we want to focus on it
In today's society, mental illness is a serious issue that is not being taken seriously.
On top of this there has been a drastic increase in mental illness’ due to:
- social media and technology
- Bullying
- Lack of attention
- Past experiences

5. Who does Mental illness Impact and how do people get a
mental illness?
Mental Illness impacts at least one person
you know in life. Some of the reasons for
mental illness include:
- Inherited Traits
- Environmental Exposure before birth
- Brain Chemistry
- History of mental illness within family
- Stressful life situations
- Childhood history of abuse or neglect

6. Results of Untreated Mental Illness
When mental illness is kept untreated it
leads to several problems both physically and
mentally including:
- not wanting to go to school
- Excessive fears or worries
- Feeling sad or down
- Detached from the world
- Problems with alcohol and drug use
- Suicidal thinking Suicide rates increasing from 1981 to
2016.

8. The Vision and Action Plan
The vision for this project is to help people who
suffer from mental health issues. Mental health is a
big issue among teenagers that can lead into drugs,
suicide, and depression. We plan to decrease
mental health issues by opening a community
center that victims can visit to speak up about their
problems in an environment they feel comfortable
to open up in. During that time, we plan to teach
techniques that will help control or prevent
depression. There will also be free counselors for
ones who need it. The plan is to create a family
atmosphere with a fun and positive environment.

9. How Mental Illness affects family and friends...
● It really hurts family members to see
someone from their family go through
such a hard time in their life.
● The family wants to help, but they really
can not because of the fact that they really
know nothing about what the person is
going through.
● It is honestly heartbreaking for the friends
because they don't want to see their friend
going through so much pain.
● Sometimes the family members put the
ones with the illness before themselves
and they put their life on the line.

10. Breaking away from your mental illness...
Breaking away from your mental illness is as simple as distracting yourself from
thinking about it. These activities include:
● Cleaning
● Yoga
● Stretching
● Exercising
● Spending time with family, friends, or pets
● Listening to music

11. How will we bring mental illness solutions home?
● Making public and free group sessions for those that want to participate
● Arrange and set up a community open field/activity day to set comfort zones
between peers
● Alert others of breakaway strategies or techniques
● Raise awareness of the severity of mental illness and how it not only impacts
those suffering but those around them as well
● Offer free mental health evaluations for those who think they are suffering so
they can step further in their treatment

12. What can we bring back home?
When we return home we can arrange activities for those suffering from mental
illnesses. This will be done by putting on an open field day and providing break away
activities including trusting each other and sharing feelings and emotions with each
other.
Group sessions can be put together to give those with mental illnesses a chance to
get everything off their chest if they do not have anyone else to vent to when they are
feeling stressed, down, or overwhelmed.
