This document discusses supporting art programs in schools. It provides statistics showing that art programs are being cut from many schools due to budget cuts. Research shows that art programs benefit students by expanding their minds and increasing attendance and graduation rates. The document proposes advocating for art programs by talking to school administrators and local arts organizations, fundraising to support school art supplies and programs, and donating to help schools and students in need. It lists several nonprofit organizations that support art, music, theatre and arts education. The overall goal is to better integrate the arts into education and society.
Edison Dance Company, directed by Ms. Moenike Sims, is an organization, out of Edison High School, committed to excellence in education and personal development. Students gain knowledge in the historical and fundamental techniques of dance; dance etiquette, dance principles and business entertainment. We are currently preparing for our 2015 Dance Recital (costumes, accessories, makeup, props, food etc.) and educational activities, which will better prepare each student for college and to increase their knowledge in the arts. For students who actively engage in learning in the arts outperform those who do not (termed "arts poor students") on almost every measure! We depend entirely on corporate and private sponsorship for financial support. We have been fortunate in the past to have the support of different individuals and organizations and are hopeful that you will be one as well. NO DONATION IS TO SMALL!

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2019 Ambassador Leaders Community Action Plan - Dazzling Dozen
1. Dazzling
Dozen
“Open up a child’s heart and continue with the arts.”
Our group started off to an amazing
connection and immediately knew
our name with the jokes made by
our counselor Joe, being a baker’s
dozen. All unique, but with the same
quality and overall goal.
2. Elevator Pitch
“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we
grow up.” Pablo Picasso knew that art was important for people of all ages to
be able to flourish, as did Benjamin Franklin. Franklin characterized the arts
as ‘an essential component’ of his ideal education back in 1749. So the
question has to be asked, why is there not a bigger focus on the arts today?
And why is there not more of a push for students to pursue a career in the
arts? The goal of our project is that the art programs are integrated into
school so that art itself becomes better integrated into society.
3. The Overall Vision
We want teenagers with a love for the arts to have support throughout
primary school, and continuing onto college, and farther.
4. Statistics - Art programs in school
In the early 1900’s, half of American schools had no art or music teachers
because of budget cuts which cause art programs to be cut first because
there are no standardized testing involved
In Los Angeles, 33% of teachers were let go and 50% of art classes
disappeared
26.2% of African American students had no access to art classes in 2015
5. Art Programs
Research
Children need art programs because when
they are introduced to art it allows their
minds to expand to different places then just
normal subjects
Kids who also participate in art attend
school more often
50% of the poorest public schools don't even
have an art room
6. Nonprofits for the Arts
Many of the non-profit organizations for the
arts in the United States work to support rising
and skilled artists in public schools and beyond.
1. Creative Capital Foundation (1999): Support
innovative and adventurous artists across the
country.
2. National Endowment of the Arts (1965):
Supports the creative capacity of U.S.
communities through diverse opportunities.
3. New York Foundation for the Arts (1971):
Supports emerging and skilled artists in their
creative lives
7. Schools with music programs have an estimated 90.2% graduation and 93.9%
attendance rates
Schools without music education have an average 72.9% graduation and
84.9% attendance rates
In a survey of 500 schools in England, music was compulsory for 13 to 14-
year-olds in 84% of schools in 2012-13, while a recent survey found it was
compulsory in just 47.5%
Teen Music Research
8. Non-Profit Organizations for Music
Non-profit music organizations in the United States
work to provide musical opportunities for children,
teenagers, and adults from all walks of life.
1. VH1 Save the Music Foundation (1955): Helps
communities realize their full potentials through the
power of music.
2. Fender Music Foundation (2005): Grants musical
instruments and equipment to the underprivileged
and mentally disabled.
3. Music Unites (2009): Supports the development of
music programs at high-risk public schools.
9. Theatre Research
90% of elementary schools don’t have any dance
or drama teachers
Theatre is a chance to create change and to use it
as a tool for healing
It helps a lot of teens become more comfortable
with being vulnerable
10. Nonprofit Partners for Theatre
 All of these organizations raise
awareness for theatre education
and help support those who need
the money or resources after
graduating high school. This
allows high schoolers to explore
the world of theatre and high
school alumni to pursue a future
with their passions.
1. Educational Theatre Association; EdTA
(1929)— “provides financial support to
enhance excellence in theatre education and to
expand access to K-12 school theatre programs
for every child.”
2. Theatre Communications Group; TCG
(1961)- “strengthen, nurture, and promote the
professional nonprofit theatre.”
3. Roundabout Theatre Company (1965)-
”Bring to life award-winning productions on
our stages and transformational educational
experiences in NYC and beyond.”
11. Action Plan
We can start by talking to our local community schools by pitching our ideas
to the music involved parents, staff and boosters (parents or local people
who support the arts in schools) to help with fundraisers and any arts
program
We can also pitch our ideas to all organizations that support the arts, asking
them for support with donations of clothing for theatre, supplies for arts,
instruments and grants
Students can raise fundraisers to start raising money locally for schools and
even families who can’t be supported at home
EVEN YOU, can help, and donate to local schools and help raise awareness
to the schools in your community and state
12. Jingle
Twinkle, twinkle little stars
Children can go really far
Let them be who they are
Everybody do your part
Open up the children’s hearts
Let them express through the arts
The logo is a donut with the all of our first initials as sprinkles.
The benefits of a quality arts education have been known for centuries. Benjamin Franklin described the arts as an essential component of what he believed to be the ideal education in 1749.
Hello, my name is Damon Lin and I am from Bayonne, New Jersey. One little known fact about me, considering many of you do not know me, is that I am actually a musician -- more specifically a violinist. Bayonne, compared to all the other cities in New Jersey, is considerably small, which is one of the reasons why there is a lack of music education and funding. As a result, the high school orchestra in my school is on the verge of being cut since there aren’t many violinists attending the orchestra. The same situation that is happening at my high school now can be seen happening in hundreds of thousands of other locations around the world -- some scenarios worse than others. The absence of music is pricey and unfortunate as there are many benefits for students and schools that have a music program or education. For example…
My name is Skylar Starrett. I am from Auburn New York, and i am very involved in my schools arts programs. To save arts programs around the world, we can pitch our ideas to the local schools to parents, big figures such as the superintendent, principal, staff and boosters (people in the community that support the arts in schools). We can then start pitching ideas further into any organization that was listed previously to reach out for support with donations of things such as musical instruments, art supplies, clothes for the theatre, and grants for whatever else the programs need. Fundraisers can be raised by the students in the arts programs to provide for the local school and even the families with students in music who can’t be supported at home. You can even help and donate to schools in your area. Now, we are going to sing you our jingle.
