2. JOB SUMMARY:
Within the context of a shared services initiative between Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) and
Providence Health Care (PHC) this technical position operates in a complex client/server
environment, requiring considerable knowledge of the PCLAN environment, and has a primary
focus on networked and personal computer local area networked (PCLAN) client
microcomputers, office systems applications, local area network services, corporate messaging
services, Internet technologies, remote access connectivity and network security, in a multi-site
environment. Technical support is provided for complex, integrated systems that may be
departmental, inter-departmental, corporate, multi-site or in remote locations. The work
performed is of a complex nature within integrated systems impacting on the efficient delivery
and use of corporate office systems and network services affecting multiple functional areas in a
multi-site environment. Technical aspects of the work involves ensuring the efficient operation
of the systems hardware and software, including the immediate resolution of complex technical
problems relating to the development, implementation and operation of applications and
communications software, desktop operating systems and the hardware they run on. The position
provides technical support services to both internal and external users; participates as a member
of a multidisciplinary project team and will be required to co-ordinate activities with other
technical and user groups. The Systems Analyst receives functional direction, task assignment
and technical guidance from the Senior Systems Analyst.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Graduation from a recognized degree or diploma program in Computer Science, current
certification as a Certified Novell Engineer (CNE) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
(MSCE) for relevant Novell and/or Microsoft products, plus three years' recent, related
experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES
Ability to lead, plan, organize, problem solve and prioritize work.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to operate related hardware and software systems.
