After my first year of foundation I did a full time
paid internship at Future Research Design
Company, Bangalore, for a period of eight weeks
in 2013 summer. I worked on the Samsung Retail
Stores project and did the site visits and the
recce drawings and the civil docket using
AutoCAD. I worked on more than twenty sites in
South India under the guidance of the team
leader.
During my third year at college, I had some free
time between classes so I paid a visit to my boss
at FRDC for a part time job opportunity. I worked
with the firm again for a period of six months
(September 2014 – February 2015). GVK, Not Just
Wine and Cheese and ISKCON were the primary
projects I was working on along side Studio West
and a residence project. During this time I worked
on concepts, mood boards, plans, fixture designs,
material boards, vendor meeting, presentations,
site visits and 3D models.
FURNITURE AND SPATIAL DESIGN
INTERNSHIP

Design for disabled was our third semester
project wherein we started off with the research
of the disability assigned to each student and
then made the following-
• Adjacency matrix
• Bubble diagram
• Zoning
• Mood board
We were given a site to measure in Foot and
Inches and then made a site analysis report.
After that we used AutoCAD to make:
• Floor plan
• Furniture plan (nine iterations)
• Sections
• Lighting plan
• Reflected ceiling plan
• Electrical plan
Manual rendering was done to the layouts to
understand the materials we wanted to use for
the flooring and the furniture and why.
The sections were rendered to understand the
layout in a different perspective.

1) Residential Space Design
The assignment was to plan a house for a twenty
four year old bachelor who decides to stay in this
house for a couple of years before getting
married. He has friends coming over on every
weekend. He works throughout the week and
parties like an animal on weekends.
2) Case Study
Our assignment was to do a case study of an office
space (Siemens Office in Bangalore on Hosur Road)
and understand the planning of the space and the
materials used. We looked at reception area, the
work space, orientation room, discussion room,
cafeteria and more.

3) Time Problem
Everyone was given two and a half days to come
up with a concept for an office space, make
personas and do it’s planning. The space
dimensions were given to us.

The abstract of this project was to redesign or
improve the existing scenario of a public space
(Orion mall, retail space and the NES bus stop at
Yelahanka in Bangalore) for the betterment of its
users. Since it was a FSD project (furniture and
spatial design) we had to look at space planning,
ergonomics, anthropometrics of the space and the
existing culture surrounding it.
A group of four members including myself were
assigned the NES bus stop. Collectively we worked
on the:
• Case Studies
• Analysis and Inference Report
• 1st step of conceptualisation
Taking a step forward, we were divided into two
groups of two members each as we wanted to
work on two different concepts. Khyati (a second
year student doing her first semester at Srishti)
and my concept was to introduce an interactive
bus route information element and increase the
resting area for its daily users. After yet another
brain storming and conceptualisation session we
finalised on working with only the railing and
incorporating our three main design concepts.

PUBLIC SPACE INTERVENTION (PROJECT IN THE THIRD YEAR)
We took it ahead in the form of-
• Design brief (Individual)
• Sketches (both worked together)
• Ergonomics and Dimensioning (individual)
• Design (individual)
• 3D Modelling stage one (both)
• 3D Modelling stage two (both)
• 3D Modelling final stage (Khyati did the
seating and the railing 1:20 model and I did
the bus route interactive element 1:1 model)
• Project Documentation (Individual)
At the end of fifteen sleepless days of the
charette, we received good feedback from
everyone during the exhibition.

Figuring out mechanisms, 1:1 scale drawing and detailing, final prototype of the
bus stop railing along with seating in 1:20 scale and the final 1:1 scale prototype
of the bus route information interactive element.
The course was divided into three main aspects:
• Quiz on History of Opera ( third place)
• Study of two scenographies of Operas from
different time periods
I worked on “La Traviata”, film version and La
Traviata 2006 at Salsbury .
• Maquette
The final submission was to design a set for a
theatre script extracted from a short story or an
original play script like La Traviata, Macbeth etc,
and a photography narrative shoot with different
lighting for the scenes.
I read “Kaaki”, a short story written by
Premchand. My primary concern after reading it
was that whatever the audience sees, it is sort of
in the form of 2D as they can’t really see much of
what is happening behind. So to fit a room, the
house, kitchen, dining area and the outdoor
seating in a linear manner became a little
challenging. On receiving the feedback, before I
started constructing the maquette, I got more
clarity on how to make more 3D and playful. Some
parts of the play could be represented
metaphorically as well. I made a 1:20 scale model
out of foam board.

Lighting Effects during
the Play.
The course was primarily about sketching,
ideating, technical drawings, modelling and
making a final functional prototype. Every
assignment was individually done. I worked on:
• Pen Stand (requirement brief given;
sketching, ideating and modelling)
• Stool (sketching, ideating, measurement
detailing, and modelling)
• Chair (the assignment was to make a
furniture with more than one function; I
made a chair for a college student with
semi-reclining back rest, foldable table,
flexible leg rest and storage space. Focused
on research, sketching, measurement
detailing and modelling.)
• Wine Table trolley
We could chose any simple furniture we wanted
to make. I wrote a design brief from a client for
the requirement of a wine trolley table and took
that forward. Made several sketches for the
form, did intense research, did several detailed
drawings, worked on the materials to use, made
many models and finally made the working
prototype in the college workshop in two and a
half days and got a good feedback.

ART AND SCIENCE OF LIGHTING (WORKSHOP IN THIRD YEAR)
During this course we did a lot of theory on
different lighting systems, how to use a lux meter,
several presentations, market research and few
experiments on product lighting.
Our main focus was on making the luminaire. It
was an individual assignment and we were given
the last three days of the workshop to make a
sketch, get the materials and have a functioning
LED luminaire ready for submission at the end of
the last day.
My concept was to make a lighting piece for a pub
or bar counter table. I initially wanted to use
more than one colour of LED lighting but that
made it look really cheap and wasn’t appealing.
I made use of wood to make the frame, hand
made paper on which I cut out the lettering,
gateway sheet for the even diffusion of light and
red LED strip of 1.5m in length.
In a dark room it illuminates it was blood red and
in a brighter room you can see the texture of the
paper and the golden frame.
The main purpose of the base of the frame is for
the bartender to place the drinks on it and then
light up the sign saying “Drink it UP”.

TEXTILE
HISTORY OF ART AND SHIBORI
(COURSE IN FIRST YEAR AND WORKSHOP IN SECOND YEAR)
The course abstract
was to pick an artist
and understand his
art work and
methods in depth
and reconstruct the
same. I chose Pierre
Auguste Renoir and
deconstructed his
painting of a bather
and reconstructed
the same using
different fabrics.
Shibori, a skill based workshop. Dyed cotton
and silk fabrics. My final piece was a silk scarf.
RUG MAKING AND PLY SPLIT BRAIDING
(WORKSHOPIN SECOND AND THIRD YEAR)

Weaving, a skill
developing workshop
wherein I made a long
mat (wool and paper) on
the loom and a wall
hanging (design inspired
by Razza) on a wooden
frame using only wool.
The process of manually
making it was addictive.
Ply split braiding, a skill
developing workshop in
which we learnt to make
braids out of four to eight
strings and the three
main knotting or ply
weaving techniques. We
used different types of
cords and material. Our
main learning was giving
something a 3D shape
without a mold.
PRODUCT DESIGN
INTRODUCTION TO RHINO AND TECHNICAL DRAWING
(COURSES IN SECOND YEAR)
Introduction to Rhino was exploring
the software and the various forms
we could make with it. My final
drawing was a lighter as it had to be
done very carefully in detail.
I took technical
drawing to learn to
represent my
product and
furniture ideas
through drawings
and dimensions.
DRAWING FOR IDEATION (COURSE IN SECOND YEAR)
Drawing for ideation was an extremely hand-
eye-coordination intensive course. We had an
open book, skill test after we practised
isometry for four days. The iron on the
isometry grid was done for the same. Soon
after, we started practicing perspective
drawings. All of us were meant to spend at
least two to four hours on each object
drawing. I drew the Bosch machine, two
views of the yellow headphones with
ideations and a shoe with ideations around it.
For the final submission, I drew and rendered
a portable water purifier jug. I used water
colour pencils and marker for rendering.
WALL MURAL
WALL CALL AND HISTORY OF DESIGN
(PROJECT AND COURSE IN THE FIRST YEAR)
The main intention of wall call was
conceptualization, stencilling, use of waste
materials for aesthetic appeal and texturing.
We created this as a gesture of appreciation to
the Dry Waste Collection Centre.
In this course, we did a research on design
inventions and created a time line which took
the form of a wall mural as final submission.

  • 3. After my first year of foundation I did a full time paid internship at Future Research Design Company, Bangalore, for a period of eight weeks in 2013 summer. I worked on the Samsung Retail Stores project and did the site visits and the recce drawings and the civil docket using AutoCAD. I worked on more than twenty sites in South India under the guidance of the team leader. During my third year at college, I had some free time between classes so I paid a visit to my boss at FRDC for a part time job opportunity. I worked with the firm again for a period of six months (September 2014 – February 2015). GVK, Not Just Wine and Cheese and ISKCON were the primary projects I was working on along side Studio West and a residence project. During this time I worked on concepts, mood boards, plans, fixture designs, material boards, vendor meeting, presentations, site visits and 3D models. FURNITURE AND SPATIAL DESIGN INTERNSHIP AutoCad Drawings (Samsung), Mood Borad and Persona Building (ISKCON) and Material Board (Studio West)

Design for disabled was our third semester project wherein we started off with the research of the disability assigned to each student and then made the following- • Adjacency matrix • Bubble diagram • Zoning • Mood board We were given a site to measure in Foot and Inches and then made a site analysis report. After that we used AutoCAD to make: • Floor plan • Furniture plan (nine iterations) • Sections • Lighting plan • Reflected ceiling plan • Electrical plan Manual rendering was done to the layouts to understand the materials we wanted to use for the flooring and the furniture and why. The sections were rendered to understand the layout in a different perspective.   • 5. 1) Residential Space Design The assignment was to plan a house for a twenty four year old bachelor who decides to stay in this house for a couple of years before getting married. He has friends coming over on every weekend. He works throughout the week and parties like an animal on weekends. 2) Case Study Our assignment was to do a case study of an office space (Siemens Office in Bangalore on Hosur Road) and understand the planning of the space and the materials used. We looked at reception area, the work space, orientation room, discussion room, cafeteria and more. The abstract of this project was to redesign or improve the existing scenario of a public space (Orion mall, retail space and the NES bus stop at Yelahanka in Bangalore) for the betterment of its users. Since it was a FSD project (furniture and spatial design) we had to look at space planning, ergonomics, anthropometrics of the space and the existing culture surrounding it. A group of four members including myself were assigned the NES bus stop. Collectively we worked on the: • Case Studies • Analysis and Inference Report • 1st step of conceptualisation Taking a step forward, we were divided into two groups of two members each as we wanted to work on two different concepts. Khyati (a second year student doing her first semester at Srishti) and my concept was to introduce an interactive bus route information element and increase the resting area for its daily users. After yet another brain storming and conceptualisation session we finalised on working with only the railing and incorporating our three main design concepts. PUBLIC SPACE INTERVENTION (PROJECT IN THE THIRD YEAR)

We took it ahead in the form of- • Design brief (Individual) • Sketches (both worked together) • Ergonomics and Dimensioning (individual) • Design (individual) • 3D Modelling stage one (both) • 3D Modelling stage two (both) • 3D Modelling final stage (Khyati did the seating and the railing 1:20 model and I did the bus route interactive element 1:1 model) • Project Documentation (Individual) At the end of fifteen sleepless days of the charette, we received good feedback from everyone during the exhibition. The course was divided into three main aspects: • Quiz on History of Opera ( third place) • Study of two scenographies of Operas from different time periods I worked on “La Traviata”, film version and La Traviata 2006 at Salsbury . • Maquette The final submission was to design a set for a theatre script extracted from a short story or an original play script like La Traviata, Macbeth etc, and a photography narrative shoot with different lighting for the scenes. I read “Kaaki”, a short story written by Premchand. My primary concern after reading it was that whatever the audience sees, it is sort of in the form of 2D as they can’t really see much of what is happening behind. So to fit a room, the house, kitchen, dining area and the outdoor seating in a linear manner became a little challenging. On receiving the feedback, before I started constructing the maquette, I got more clarity on how to make more 3D and playful. Some parts of the play could be represented metaphorically as well. I made a 1:20 scale model out of foam board.   • 9. The course was primarily about sketching, ideating, technical drawings, modelling and making a final functional prototype. Every assignment was individually done. I worked on: • Pen Stand (requirement brief given; sketching, ideating and modelling) • Stool (sketching, ideating, measurement detailing, and modelling) • Chair (the assignment was to make a furniture with more than one function; I made a chair for a college student with semi-reclining back rest, foldable table, flexible leg rest and storage space. Focused on research, sketching, measurement detailing and modelling.) • Wine Table trolley We could chose any simple furniture we wanted to make. I wrote a design brief from a client for the requirement of a wine trolley table and took that forward. ART AND SCIENCE OF LIGHTING (WORKSHOP IN THIRD YEAR) During this course we did a lot of theory on different lighting systems, how to use a lux meter, several presentations, market research and few experiments on product lighting. Our main focus was on making the luminaire. It was an individual assignment and we were given the last three days of the workshop to make a sketch, get the materials and have a functioning LED luminaire ready for submission at the end of the last day. My concept was to make a lighting piece for a pub or bar counter table. I initially wanted to use more than one colour of LED lighting but that made it look really cheap and wasn’t appealing. I made use of wood to make the frame, hand made paper on which I cut out the lettering, gateway sheet for the even diffusion of light and red LED strip of 1.5m in length. In a dark room it illuminates it was blood red and in a brighter room you can see the texture of the paper and the golden frame. The main purpose of the base of the frame is for the bartender to place the drinks on it and then light up the sign saying “Drink it UP”. TEXTILE HISTORY OF ART AND SHIBORI (COURSE IN FIRST YEAR AND WORKSHOP IN SECOND YEAR) The course abstract was to pick an artist and understand his art work and methods in depth and reconstruct the same. I chose Pierre Auguste Renoir and deconstructed his painting of a bather and reconstructed the same using different fabrics. Shibori, a skill based workshop. Dyed cotton and silk fabrics. My final piece was a silk scarf.

RUG MAKING AND PLY SPLIT BRAIDING (WORKSHOPIN SECOND AND THIRD YEAR) Full Documentation- http://www.slideshare.net/AmeeshiGoenka/rug-making-documentation Weaving, a skill developing workshop wherein I made a long mat (wool and paper) on the loom and a wall hanging (design inspired by Razza) on a wooden frame using only wool. The process of manually making it was addictive. Ply split braiding, a skill developing workshop in which we learnt to make braids out of four to eight strings and the three main knotting or ply weaving techniques. We used different types of cords and material. Our main learning was giving something a 3D shape without a mold.
  • 13. PRODUCT DESIGN INTRODUCTION TO RHINO AND TECHNICAL DRAWING (COURSES IN SECOND YEAR) Introduction to Rhino was exploring the software and the various forms we could make with it. My final drawing was a lighter as it had to be done very carefully in detail. I took technical drawing to learn to represent my product and furniture ideas through drawings and dimensions.
  • 14. DRAWING FOR IDEATION (COURSE IN SECOND YEAR) Drawing for ideation was an extremely hand- eye-coordination intensive course. We had an open book, skill test after we practised isometry for four days. The iron on the isometry grid was done for the same. Soon after, we started practicing perspective drawings. All of us were meant to spend at least two to four hours on each object drawing. I drew the Bosch machine, two views of the yellow headphones with ideations and a shoe with ideations around it. For the final submission, I drew and rendered a portable water purifier jug. I used water colour pencils and marker for rendering.
  • 15. WALL MURAL WALL CALL AND HISTORY OF DESIGN (PROJECT AND COURSE IN THE FIRST YEAR) The main intention of wall call was conceptualization, stencilling, use of waste materials for aesthetic appeal and texturing. We created this as a gesture of appreciation to the Dry Waste Collection Centre. In this course, we did a research on design inventions and created a time line which took the form of a wall mural as final submission.
