Neuroinflammation contributes to neuron loss in juvenile Batten disease. The study tests the anti-inflammatory drug roflumilast in a mouse model of the disease. Researchers found that roflumilast treatment for 3 months improved motor function in mice and reduced microglia and astrocyte activation associated with neuroinflammation. The results suggest reducing neuroinflammation through anti-inflammatory drugs may help slow disease progression in juvenile Batten disease.
