• A) I have researched into a number of
artist from different time periods and art
movement periods and studied their style.
I have analysed and pinpointed similarities
and themes in their work which make up
their style of work and experimented with
that. I have also added my opinion to say
what I liked and disliked about it. My
researches include 2 from pint rest, 1 from
Tumblr and 4 artist which I found useful.
These being Julia Potts Helen Musselwhite,
Leonid Afremov and Micheal Murphy.
• B) From my research I have done a
detailed study of their work which I have
planned and evaluated. This then helped
me to use their style in practice after I had
visually analysed them.
• C) After analysing styles and techniques
and then recreating one of their paintings I
have then taken my location and recreated
an image from it in te style of my chosen
artist or style. This gives me an even
deeper understanding and visual guild to
see if it will work with my chosen brief.

a) When given my location I have used a number
of medias to recreate and experiment with. This
includes; watercolour pen(ballpoint and fine liner)
pencil, charcoal, soft pastel, acrylic and collage. I
also used different material to work onto to see if
that matches any medias and enhances the style.
This includes; white paper, watercolour paper and
sugar paper. The one I liked the most was a
mixture of water colour and fine liner on normal
sketch book paper. This is because the sugar paper
and the normal white paper and card either
absorbed the colour too much and so I couldn’t
spread the colour or that it spread too much.
Water colour and pen were used as they
complimented each other with pen being detailed
and harsh were as watercolour begin soft and pale.
b) Also used sketch up. This gave me time to
experiment with graphic media and also fine art.
He sketch up model was done by measuring the
green house (my structure) and creating an exact
replica of it on the programme. I then changed the
materials on the walls to make it more realistic. I
then crated a short animation of my green house
and shed which is n my Tumblr account. This
helped me to see what the different angles do to
the 2d visual. It helped me to create a graphics
model of my location and then be able to see it in
2d so that I could effectively draw my structures in
terms of perspectives.

a) To record my location I experimented with different media
and techniques to computer different angle. This includes
taking photos, making sketches, crating a sketch up model
and creating a 3d blue foam model. I then researched into
different perspectives such as atmospherics and linear and
found that atmospheric worked best visually with my painting
as it fit with the media I wanted to use. Aka the watercolour
as it is light and easy to blend out. I then did perspective
experiments using my model to confirm this.
b) I decided to use watercolour and fine liner as it fit what
thought the location looked like. The location is a mixture of
messy organic matter and orderly manmade structure so to
show this the watercolour made the soft light texture of the
natural as it is all messy and no strong lines present. And then
the pen made the structures and designs on the wall of the
structures more prominent and bold to match this. This
therefor was right to use watercolour and pen. Acrylic was
too harshly colour to fit with my colour scheme without it
being too dark and pencil alone would not be a correct
representation of all the surface textures and colours.

Developing your
personal brief
a) Through my project I decide to
down the fine art root and prepare
and present a painting for a hangings
to be placed in the head teachers
office. I decided to crate a painting/
drawing which is not too bright but is
a calming subtle piece which hangs
in the back ground. The piece also is
to show off the natural side of the
college and a decoration for him and
any clients which happen to walk in
to there.
b) I decided to do this via experiment
and research. I experimented with
mixed media, different materials and
different uses of perspectives looking
at what angles suited it the most. I
also researched into many different
artist to gather a style and
perspective source and to help
decide my choice of media which
turned out to be watercolour and
fine liner pen.

6. The Place in Question Evaluation
In this project I looked at a location in the college and looked at different ways to portray it. My location was the allotment at the back of college. I choose this as it had a mixture of
organic and manmade elements and structures which I would draw paint or create. I chose to do the fine art brief whereby I was going to create an A3 drawing, painting or
sculpture of my area.
To begin my project, I went to my chosen location and took a number of photos and sketches to experiment with. The purpose of dong so was to look at different angle I could
draw in and to look at the different shapes and texture in my location. I then created a model of the green house so that I could simplify the structure and concentrate on the ways
of showing perspective affectively in a sketch. I also researched into different ways to portray selected textures. From this I learnt that manmade structure and surfaces were more
regular and were in pattern whereas the natural surfaces were more messy and unorganised. I used this research later on to create my final piece.
I then went on to researching different artist which I liked and analysed their style. I then also made studies of their work and another study of my area in the style of that artist or
picture. My researches included Julia Potts, a water colour painting of a cityscape from Pinterest, a water colour and pen sketch from Tumblr and another watercolour from
Pinterest. Also Helen Musselwhite, Leonid Afremov and Micheal Murphy. Through doing this artist research I decided to do a water colour and fine liner pen sketch which was
inspired by both Leonids painting technique which messy lines and bursts of colour and the water colour and pen sketch from Tumblr. This then created my base for what I wanted
to do as a final piece.
Before starting my initial ideas I created a test piece which I reviewed and showed more r less what I wanted to do. I then made 10 initial ideas and developed 3. After my book
was review by peers who thought that 2 of my developed initial ideas were too similar so I created a 4th. I then also look at perspective and researched into different ways to
portray different perspectives and view angles. I then used this to experiment with my own location using the skills I had researched. My final step was to create a final plan which I
put together, reasoning all my choices and decisions about my final piece and made it.
My final piece was an on an A3 board and was based off a picture I used for my 2nd prototype. The painting was done in both fine liner pen and water colours and I used different
brushes to create different textures such as the grass and buildings.
I am happy with my final outcome as I have used my media well and also showed perspective well through depth and shadow of buildings and plant structure. The hardest part of
my piece was creating the depth inside the green house and getting the texture of glass right. Although not perfect I did this by trying to create a smooth gradient of colour and
using greys and blue to do this. I particular like the buildings shadows and the grass and gradient bush texture as I think this creates a nice style and good representation of
shadow and light.
Throughout my project I balanced out my time well and did any work which I felt was necessary for the development of my design. You cans see how I looked at some artist and
felt is wasn’t right so did more to find the right style. I spent time and effort into analysing and pulling out aspects I thought would be useful for my final design. I used different
Medias to experiment with such as pen pencil paints collage and also used different sources such as books the different art sites.
In conclusion I am happy with how my sketch book development and my final piece turned out. If I was to add improvements, I would look at more water colour artist and
experiment with just water colour to find new textures I could create.
