Their unique approach to funding cancer research results in over three times the return on investment compared to typical funding. By bringing researchers and patients together and capping administrative overhead, LRG is able to maximize the impact of every research dollar. After two years of implementing their strategic plan, LRG has made substantial progress on nine out of ten research projects and is seeking additional funds to continue their work towards finding a cure for GIST cancer.

According to a report from the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), cancer death rates in the United States fell by about 1.5% per year for both men and women between 2003 and 2012. Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

- 2. Introduction • As an oncology pharmacist at the Markey Cancer Center (MCC) in Lexington, Kentucky, Sherif Mohamed El- Rafai assists in treating people with various types of cancer. The MCC is part of the University of Kentucky, where Sherif Mohamed El-Rafai studies as a doctoral student in pharmaceutical science. The MCC's origins stretch back to the 1975 formation of a community outreach program called the McDowell Cancer Network. Over time the network received grants that helped expand its influence, and it eventually became the MCC, an arm of the University of Kentucky's Albert B. Chandler Hospital.
- 3. Markey Cancer Center • Today, the MCC stands as one of the few institutions in the nation designated by the National Cancer Institute and the only such institution in Kentucky. Separate Clinical Care and Research Teams (CCARTs) at the MCC provide treatment for such conditions as breast, head and neck, lung, brain, and gastrointestinal cancer. Research, another focus, is divided into four programs with unique objectives. The MCC also works in concert with affiliate hospitals to make progress toward its goal of reducing cancer deaths in Kentucky by 50 percent over a five-year period.
