This document summarizes a study on the effects of cyclic flow releases from Dartmouth Dam on biofilms in the Mitta Mitta River in Australia. Biofilms were sampled from two sites in the Mitta Mitta River, a reference site in Snowy Creek, and a control site in the Buffalo River during two periods of low flow releases (200-400 ML/day) and two periods of higher flow releases (300-900 ML/day). The study found that the higher flow releases reduced algal biomass on cobles and artificial substrates but did not significantly reduce total biofilm biomass. Filamentous green algae decreased after high flows while cyanobacteria increased, indicating different taxon responses. The report recommends modifying release patterns
